Foursquare Rolls Out New Version Of “Explore” On Mobile With Filters & Improved Search

This morning, Foursquare launched an updated version of its “Explore” feature for both its iPhone and Android applications. The new version brings over several of the features already available through Foursquare on the web, including filters, photos in search results and the ability to change your location. After updating your mobile app, you’ll see the improvements in the “Explore,” section, Foursquare’s local guide which is augmented by your friends’ recommendations and visits as well as other Foursquare users’ tips and comments. Like a mini local search engine, you can search for venues by category (“coffee,” “nightlife”), name, or even something very specific, like what food you’re in the mood for (“tuna,” “burgers”). You can also tap “Specials” to see just those venues offering check-in or mayor discounts. We have great news for you Foursquare for Android users out there. The location-based social networking app recently received a pretty cool update with the Lists feature to help share and discover collections of places, among a few other smaller tweaks. This news follows the company’s recent announcement of achieving a huge milestone, passing a cool one billion check-ins. The full new feature list includes: Honestly, adding the ability to connect a Twitter account within the app, and the access to sort out your friends by Nearby or Worldwide parameters were highly needed features. You know how it goes – you get a new phone and suddenly realize you need to install all of your favorite apps once again. I recently got myself the Samsung II and before even turning it on, I decided to prepare a list of apps I’ll install on it. Without further ado, here’s a list of 30 apps I find essential: In addition, there’s the office suite (Polaris) that comes preloaded with the Samsung II — HTC smartphones rock Quickoffice.
