Good app - Hope it gets better
Attikai 4.0 stars Version: 2.0
I waited to buy until after 2.0 was released. I feel the purchase was worth a few dollars. I'm happy I bought it. I also think this app could become great in time. The app, as described, so far has a huge list of cheeses, and is informative. I noticed many cheeses from a particular maker are not listed while other cheeses they make are. For instance Tillamook cheddar is listed as are other Tillamook cheddars, but not Tillamook's aged cheddars. Or Cyprus Grove's, Humboldt Fog is listed, while their Truffle Tremor is not. This is too bad because if you like one cheese from a certain maker it's likely you may enjoy other cheeses they make as well. So sorting by maker, and rounding out the cheese database to include at least the other regular offerings from the cheese makers already in this app would be great. The other obvious addition that could improve this app exponentially is user input. If we users could comment on cheeses similar to how I'm commenting about this app now, and submit additional cheeses to the database, then be able to rate the cheeses too, then this would become the ultimate cheese reference!
Not yet ready
JDSX 2.0 stars Version: 2.0
There are still way too many cheeses missing for it to be worth $2.99, or worthwhile at all. Plus you can't even mark cheeses as thumbs up/down or some other indication of which you know you like or don't.
good idea; great start
rjdilworth 3.0 stars Version: 1.0
Great concept and organization; idea is overdue, given the number of similar apps for wine (very mixed result); developer should check content and allow feedback mechanism for suggested additions (esp. from outside France) and corrections (some errors of origin; also, some users may want to suggest additional wine pairings). 2.0 sounds super if additional content as promised, and if english-french.
i love cheese!
jeanarad 4.0 stars Version: 2.0
I was excited when I saw this app. I just got it and it looks great so far. I would like it if there were more Spanish cheeses included. I've heard Spain has some wonderful, little-known cheeses and I'd like to learn more about them.
Great app
jakebathman 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
I was really hoping to see a cheese-related app and I'm glad it's just what I was looking for. Can't wait until 2.0
Wonderful!
Chinelly 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
Looking forward to the next version. Thanks!
I Love Cheese
oooorion 5.0 stars Version: 2.1
Thanks for the updates, keep up the good work! This app helped me find lots of new cheeses to hunt down and sample. Would be nice if I could check them off as I go or maybe have a favorites so I can quickly sort through as I wonder around the cheese shop looking for a new treat! Thanks.
Not Anywhere Near Complete
Grumpy Mustache 2.0 stars Version: 2.0
This app is only mildly useful as it not anywhere near complete. Not worth the money!
Needs a lot more work
mushroom09 2.0 stars Version: 2.0
Listing over 225 cheeses from France with every region and listing less than 50 for the entire U.S. is a joke. Being from Wisconsin I can tell you that there are world class medal winning cheeses not mentioned and yet cheese products like Laughing Cow or baked brie are listed. Do some homework. Until more U.S. cheeses are included by region, this application simply is not worth the money. Great idea, but poor execution.
Strong potential but not there - yet
ScattergoodBaines 3.0 stars Version: 2.0
What's there is not bad. What's missing mostly is functionality. Needs search capability. Listing are strange. For example, Emmenthaler is listed under Swiss. Stilton is listed under England (or English, I can't remember). Others have wished for bookmarks, user entry, wine pairings searches, etc. I concur. I also am optimistic - the developer has done a marvelous job so far - what I would call a 60% effort. I predict it won't be long before we see 80% and then that elusive near perfect. Glad I bought it. Now we just need to be patient. I prescribe a glass of wine with ... some cheese.
Great app but....
Galley slave 4.0 stars Version: 2.0
Please add the abillity to bookmark cheeses that you would like to try. Have seen so many I would like to try and would love to be able to review my selection while shopping at the grocery store. This feature in my opinion would make this a 5* app.
Lacks one important descriptive
lb99 3.0 stars Version: 2.0
When selecting cheeses a very important characteristic is how STRONG the cheese tastes. I love stinky strong cheeses but there is no way you can discover that Pont l'Eveque, for instance, is strong while a Montrachet is mild. Hope this type of tasting characteristic gets added to the Region, Texture and Milk on the front page for each cheese.
Great app, but...
Sundaybum 4.0 stars Version: 2.0
It would be really nice to search differant cheeses based on which type of wine you were in the mood for. For example if you wanted to drink a merlot the app could show you all cheeses that went well with that perticular wine. Great app though...
Needs More Italian Cheeses!
Vennarucci 3.0 stars Version: 2.0
This is a great application if you're into French cheese.
Classically trained chef loves Fromage but,
Quicksoul 4.0 stars Version: 2.0
I'm stoked to be able to have a quick go to reference for the wonder world of cheese. I'd like to see a fav's tab. big time .(keepiing your finger pressed on a selection throws it in your fav folder etc.)
Great app a few suggestions to make it 5 stars
urbanfashionista 4.0 stars Version: 2.1
Being in the wine industry I really love this application. It is extremely helpful. It could be a five star app if it had two additional features: 1. a way to "check off" cheeses into a favorites category for later reference. 2: the ability to submit to Steve Welch other cheese for him to consider in future updates.
Needs better organization!
Maggie in Maine 3.0 stars Version: 2.1
This is a beautiful looking application with lots of cheeses listed, but unless you have a specific cheese to look up, and you know the correct spelling, it isn't very useful. All the groups (Alpha, Region, Milk Type, and Texture) need to be collapsible, so you can choose one. In fact, the default should be the collapsed view. I don't have the patience to scroll through all the cheeses in the world when I want to learn what cheeses are made in Wales!
Search
wdelorme 3.0 stars Version: 2.1
The program is very nice and useful, but no way to search hopefully there will be search capability with Iphone 3.0 fireware,
Good app - It's getting better
Attikai 4.0 stars Version: 3.0
Updated review for version 3: Very pleased that updates are still coming. The obvious and most dissapointing ommision from this app is an add-your-own-cheese feature. Not all cheeses are in here many I like are not. Being able to add them would make me happy.
Needs work
Heathcliff92 2.0 stars Version: 3.0
Expensive for what it is. Needs a similar and suggest function.
Excellent reference
BradPaton 4.0 stars Version: 3.0
Not perfect though; la vache qui rit is inexplicably classified as American (under laughing cow label) & other generic american versions of traditional cheeses are needlessly included as well (Parmesan, really?)
just one thing for quick reference...
mmvu 3.0 stars Version: 3.0
Would like to see them add "raw" or "pasteurized" after the type of milk description. Plus, there is only one listing for Canadian cheese (Black Diamond Cheddar), but Quebec has a large selection of great cheeses that really should not be ignored.
Execeptionally helpful
ace286 4.0 stars Version: 3.0
All of the tweaks mentioned should be implimented. However, overall an awesome app! I use it all the time. The updates turned a useful app into an invaluable one!
Great Application
SandroF 5.0 stars Version: 3.0
The app is very userfriendly. I found most of the cheeses I was looking for. Very impressive. I can certainly recommend this app. One suggestion: I miss a category of cheeses I have tried but did not like. I still want to keep a record of them, not yo buy them again by "accident". Still 5 stars!!
Needs more cheese!
Takumii 1.0 stars Version: 3.0
Could use a cheese shaker for random cheeses. Also needs more cheese updates as some are missing, would like to see all cheese types at some point Similar types and updates would be nice.
Dodge-Powerwagon
DodgePowerwagon 3.0 stars Version: 3.0
Impressed so far, but...... Would love to see a button to notify the developer about cheeses we would like to see added. (i. e. Tillamook Swiss for one, Star Valley Wyoming for another) Thanx P.S. New Zealand, too
