The 20 Best iPhone and iPad Games of 2012... So Far
Calendar16 Fri, 06 Apr 2012 20:50:12 UTC +00:00
The App Store is a labyrinthine place, and it's easy to get lost in it. Many gamers just stick to the top 10 or 25 apps and base their purchases on those, ignoring everything else. To help you out, we've made it our mission to search out the best games available, regardless of whether they're the best selling or not. Here's our list of the top 20 iOS games that launched in the first quarter of 2012. 20. Sky Gamblers: Air Supremacy There's a reason Apple invited Namco onstage at this year's iPad event to show off Sky Gamblers: Air Supremacy-- it looks great, especially if you play it on the new iPad. But whatever device you play it on, you'll be soaring across the skies and gunning down bogies. The controls are tight as a drum and the missions come in an impressive number of varieties. There's not much here Read More
Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective Review
Calendar16 Mon, 12 Mar 2012 18:24:33 UTC +00:00
Posted 03/12/2012 at 11:24am | by Steve Haske How would you solve the mystery of your own death? What would your first step be, and how would you go about gathering clues? Most importantly, how could you get around or interact with the environment in meaningful ways without a body? These are some of the questions proposed by Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective, one of Capcom’s most original and interesting titles in years. Mixing elements from semi-recent adventure favorites like Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney and Hotel Dusk: Room 215, this port of last year's sleeper Nintendo DS title is perfectly suited for iOS’ touch display, and I couldn’t be happier to see it come to the App Store as a universal offering. The game opens in media res with you crumpled in a dead heap in the middle of a junkyard. There’s a blue man in a black suit pointing a shotgun Read More

I've been waiting for this one for a while. Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective is a title that won accolades on the Nintendo DS last year, and it's now arrived on iOS in a universal version (that's free to download to boot). The idea is that you're a ghostly "phantom detective" who must solve his own murder. You can't directly interact with the living, but you can mess with inanimate objects in their world. So move objects around and try to change the fate of other dead people. It sounds morbid, but there's a fun sense of humor and style that keep it entertaining. The first two chapters are free to play through, and you can buy the rest for US$9.99 total, or $4.99 in three different chapter packs. Even for the full price, that's cheaper than you'll find it for sale on the DS. There's full Game Center integration and the Read More

Depending on how you look at it, my weekend was either a complete success or a disastrous waste. Asides from my daily ablutions, I've done nothing but sit on my derriere and play Capcom's Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective [Free]. It's true. I'm not ashamed. I would be ashamed if this was a cheap rip-off stemming from some copycat's attempt to cash in on a popular indie title somewhere but Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective isn't that sort of game. If you had to liken it to a gender-unspecific trophy spouse, Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective would be a 6'2" Scandinavian model with a degree in rocket science and a part-time job as a professional comedian. You won't be ashamed to be caught with this one. The only problem here is that not everyone likes a talker. Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective's only real flaw (which is also, paradoxically enough, its strongest quality) is the fact Read More

By Rob Rich on February 3rd, 2012 What's better than a list of recently-released free iOS games? An even BIGGER list of recently-released free iOS games. Call me crazy, but I felt compelled to make this week’s list of freebies a little bigger than usual. Maybe it’s because there were more to pick from. Maybe there was a larger number of legitimately interesting titles. Or maybe I was just on a roll and went with it. No matter the reason, there’s a nice big list of iOS games down there that can all be acquired without the use of money. Why not take a look? GHOST TRICK: Phantom Detective – It seems like Capcom has started to compulsively port their DS games to iOS. Not that I mind, because most of their DS games are utterly fantastic. GHOST TRICK: Phantom Detective is most likely no exception. The dead private eye who Read More

Now the game has made its way over to iOS, featuring interesting puzzles and fantastic “Ghost Tricks,” it is a title that everyone should experience. GHOST TRICK: Phantom Detective kicks off in a rather ominous fashion, with a young read-headed lady being held at gunpoint by a hitman. The narrator of the scene comments on the seriousness of the situation, and how he should help the lady, but there’s only one problem – he’s already dead, the first victim of the hitman. Read More
Capcom has made another Nintendo DS exclusive title available on iOS today as Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective has moved his quirky investigative prowess to the App Store today. If you recall the first Capcom Nintendo DS exclusive game to jump to the iOS platform was Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney back in 2010. Ironically, Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective was created by the same man: Shu Takumi. Instead of playing out courtroom drama from case to case, this mystery adventure game has players assuming the role of Sisel as he uses his Ghost Tricks powers to switch between the Land of the Living and the Ghost World. Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective for iOS features intuitive touch screen controls, enhanced graphics, and a much wider viewing area to help with solving puzzles. If you enjoyed Phoenix Wright’s writing, puzzles, and intriguing story, then you’ll want to experience Ghost Trick as it offers a very Read More
'Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective' First Impressions

Sissel has a lot of problems, but the least of  them is that he's dead. Well, not dead-dead, but dead. I'll explain: Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective [Free] is all about what Sissel has gained in the afterlife. Like a common ghoul, this guy can rattle mundane objects, activate levers and buttons, and possess stuff. He can also decidedly un-ghoulishly rewind time, which is a trick that comes in pretty handy; a lot of the people he knows tend to die, and he needs these people to help him with his biggest problem: memory loss. Ghost Trick first saw a release on Nintendo DS around a year ago. This isn't its debut on iOS, though. A couple of months after the DS release, Capcom dropped a Universal version of the game on the Japanese App Store. Now, the rest of the world is finally getting to see a version of this port tonight.
