Last week’s App Smart column featured apps for singers and aspiring vocalists, with Glee Karaoke and VoiceJam taking top billing. People who can’t get enough of these apps should try StarMaker: Karaoke + Auto-Tune (free on Apple) and Voice Tutor ($5 on Apple, $3 on Android). StarMaker’s karaoke approach is similar to that of Glee, with a graphical guide to keep you in tune, and scrolling lyrics. The Auto-Tune feature works nicely and the list of available songs is filled with hits. Licensed games are rarely awesome, but I suppose Tap Tap Glee [Free] has a shot at being one of the better ones we’ve seen just by sheer virtue of its core simplicity. Fox Digital Entertainment and Tap Tap creators Tapulous announced the new partnership and the game the other morning, and now you can go download it on the App Store for free. Like other Tap Tap games, all you do in Tap Tap Glee is ‘tap’ out musical beats alongside songs. Smule has reinvented its official Glee app as Glee Karaoke, specially for the new season of the musical show. Our own Mike Rose enjoyed the first app earlier this year, but this release adds a little competition to the mix -- you can now compete on high score boards for every song, and complete missions in the game to unlock new content and move up the charts. You can also improve your singing by playing with the app -- there's "a touch of pitch correction" in there, and you can get feedback as you sing on just how well you're doing.
