Capcom, Namco, Sega Announce Big 99 Cent Game Sales
Calendar16 Thu, 10 Feb 2011 17:10:19 UTC +00:00
Posted 02/10/2011 at 9:10am | by Andrew Groen There's officially no good reason to pay more than 99 cents for any game on the App Store this month. We always thought Valentine's Day was the kind of holiday that specialized more in cheap pink teddy bears than smartphone software, but apparently we were wrong. The past couple of weeks have been positively flooded with huge iOS video game sales from major publishers, and now Sega, Capcom, and Namco are getting in on the action. Some of their very best games are included so check out the full list. Listen up, fellas and ladies, sure you could go to the shop this Valentine's Day and get your special someone a ho-hum set of bad flowers and some fluffy pink polyester that will be sure to make them feel completely average. Or you could surprise them with an onslaught of totally awesome games Read More
SEGA Permanently Drops The Price Of All Its iOS Titles
Calendar16 Tue, 07 Dec 2010 19:36:14 UTC +00:00
If you were App shopping around Thanksgiving, you probably gobbled up one of two of the usually-premium priced SEGA titles on sale. If you missed out for one reason or another, well, here's your second chance at correcting that egregious error. SEGA has slashed the prices on every single bit of content it has on the App Store. From Chu Chu Rocket HD to Streets of Rage, every SEGA published or developed title's price has been permanently dropped. Now, you can grab titles like Shining Force and Ecco the Dolphin for a mere $.99, or even grab newer ports like Sonic The Hedgehog 4: Episode 1 for $6.99. In the interest of keeping you fully informed, here's a list, provided via SEGA's own blog, of all the Apps original and new prices: Of course, just because these games are on sale doesn't mean you should go on an all-out Sega buying bender. Golden Axe gets Bluetooth multiplayer, EA titles on sale
Calendar16 Sat, 04 Dec 2010 00:00:00 UTC +00:00
Sega sent us a note that Golden Axe for the iPhone has been updated -- the game now offers co-op over Bluetooth, so you and a friend can grab a weapon and get to killing goblins and ogres. And I think the game has finally gotten down to a US 99 cent usual price rather than a special sale, but a buck (or two bucks as the case may be, for two players) is cheap for a few good co-op games of Golden Axe. Additionally, EA has dropped prices on a few of its App Store titles, including Reckless Racing, EA Sports MMA, and our recent Daily App choice Heroes Lore III. The dev has deals going on its games all month long, so stay tuned for more to come. Oh, and one more tip: Gameloft is apparently giving away one game every single day over on its Twitter account in Read More

Halo? Pffft. Lego Star Wars? Bah! In my day, we had to tromp our arses over to an arcade to find a machine capable of handling all that multi-person action at once. All I needed were a few buds, a pocket of quarters, a Golden Axe machine, and I was set. Happy Thanksgiving – Here Are a TON of Games on Sale
Calendar16 Thu, 25 Nov 2010 11:04:08 UTC +00:00
Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays, and has been all my life. What's there not to love about an entire day revolving around eating massive amounts of turkey, stuffing, and all the other fixings? Sure, I could do without needing to feign interest in football, but thankfully tryptophan overload usually allows me to sleep through all of that. If you're looking for something to do this year while you do your best to either pretend to be interested in football or anxiously wait for the food to be done, there are a ton of sales on the App Store to consider. The basis of this post comes from SirAwesome's awesome thread in our new price drops, freebies, and deals forum. He put together an extremely exhaustive listing of everything that's on sale, and the thread is good to stop by just to make sure you're not missing anything that might Read More
Aug 27th 2010 at 9:00AM Nice to know folks can still appreciate a classic! It may not look as sharp as even most retro releases, but Phantasy Star 2 was the bomb. Also, the soundtrack is still as amazing as ever. I have usually been hesitant towards buying re-releases of old games on new devices and platforms but an offer like this is just too good to pass up. Just bought Shining Force for a mere 0,79 €! awesome... thanks for the heads-up. sonic 2 in the bag. tonight i'm gonna party like its 1992. It's about that time for many gamers to start heading back to school, and it can be a difficult task to say goodbye to the lazy days of summer. Your friends at Sega want to make this transition just a little bit easier by offering just about all of their App Store titles at a discounted rate until September 1st. And Sega's not alone, as developer Meridian is celebrating the one year anniversary of their popular dual-stick shooter Alive 4-ever by putting their entire selection of games on sale for the next three days. If you haven't had a chance to pick up any of these titles before, now is your chance to do so and save a bit of cash in the process. Sega titles on sale: Meridian titles on sale: Besides these specific sales, there's pretty much always other titles with price drops at any given time, as most Read More
Sega iPhone App Sale Includes Sonic, Golden Axe and More
Calendar16 Thu, 26 Aug 2010 15:45:57 UTC +00:00
If you’re looking for a bargain inside the App Store, then these Sega games should fit the bill quite nicely!  A wide variety of their popular titles have been dropped by at least 50%, so if you were ever put off by the slightly higher than average pricing of Sega’s apps, then now is the time to buy. Here are the games on offer, complete with their own easy link directly to the App Store: Both Space Harrier 2 and Sega Columns Deluxe remain at $0.99, and Sega’s brand new RPG release, Phantasy Star II,  sits at $2.99.  As usual, let us know if you picked up one of these bargains, and tell us what you thought of it! When Sega first started releasing its emulated games like Sonic the Hedgehog [$5.99], Golden Axe [$2.99] and others, everyone wondered where Sega's array of classic RPG's were. Sega responded by releasing Shining Force [$2.99], leaving commenters and forum posters happy, but asking for the Phantasy Star series next... Which is exactly what Sega is delivering this Thursday. Much like Shining Force, Phantasy Star II is a turn-based RPG that works marvelously with Sega's emulator. Text entry is a little dicey, but otherwise navigating the game world and engaging in battles works wonderfully. The emulator also does a great job of saving the game state when you quit the app, making Phantasy Star II surprisingly workable as a pick up and play game. I still need to spend more time with Phantasy Star II, as like most RPG's the game is quite epic, but so far things are looking very good with Read More
Sega has released a number of classic Genesis games on the App Store- Sonic the Hedgehog [$5.99], Sonic the Hedgehog 2 [$5.99], Golden Axe [$2.99], Streets of Rage [$2.99], and as of last night, Ecco the Dolphin [$2.99] and Space Harrier II [99¢]. In the past we've been increasingly critical of Sega releasing these emulated games, as while the games wrapped in the emulator are undoubtedly classics, the emulator itself leaves much to be desired. Revisiting these games with my iPhone 4 has revealed that Apple has finally released hardware that is fast enough to properly run Sega's emulator (although I have had weird crashing issues with Sonic 2). If you've got an iPhone 4, the games run substantially better than the 3GS/3rd generation iPod touch, leaving the touch controls as the only issue. If you're stuck in the world of the iPhone 3G or 2nd Generation iPod touch, you're still Read More

iPhone 4 Game Sale Extravaganza
Calendar16 Wed, 23 Jun 2010 16:52:06 UTC +00:00
Following EA's lead of their massive 99¢ sale, quite a few other developers are slashing prices in hopes of being on the charts for the influx of new iPhone 4 owners powering up their devices for the first time today or tomorrow and checking out this "App Store" they've heard so much about. We're going to be putting together another "So you just got an iPhone..." post similar to the one we did last year for the launch of the 3GS, but in the meantime you might not want to miss some of these sales as there's no telling how long they will last: Of course there are always tons of sales taking place on the App Store, this is just a short listing of popular games with price drops. Head on over to AppShopper to see a list of popular games and all games with recent price drops. Quote: Originally Read More
Believe It: Sega Ultimate Genesis Emulator for iPhone
Calendar16 Wed, 20 Jan 2010 15:42:45 UTC +00:00
Posted 01/20/2010 at 7:42am | by J.R. Bookwalter Old-school gamers look back fondly on consoles such as the Sega Genesis, which launched the esteemed careers of such characters as Sonic the Hedgehog. Very soon, you can relive those bygone gaming days on your very own iPhone. While Apple has been fairly hardcore about denying emulators a place at the App Store table, Gizmodo is reporting that Sega is about to unleash an official, approved app called Ultimate Genesis in early February. Of course, Sega is no stranger to the App Store, having already released a handful of titles, including Golden Axe, Streets of Rage and the aforementioned hedgehog. Those releases were technically emulated, meaning the apps were emulators with the official ROMs packaged inside -- great for gamers since they were faithful adaptations, although they were a little slow on anything prior to an iPhone 3GS. Thanks to the App Store’s Read More
'Streets of Rage' - More Disappointment From Sega
Calendar16 Fri, 17 Jul 2009 06:39:45 UTC +00:00
Sega released the 1991 classic Genesis game Streets of Rage [App Store] tonight, adding yet another port to their increasingly disappointing lineup of $4.99 Genesis games. Sega started churning out ports with Sonic the Hedgehog [App Store], which was playable, but performance problems made the game lose its luster as soon as your sixteen bit nostalgia was quenched. In our first look at the game we liked what we saw, but pleaded with Sega that they do something to optimize the emulator as we realized the full potential of the Genesis catalog on the iPhone. A while later, Golden Axe [App Store] was released. When we checked out the game we noticed this iteration of the emulator was slightly improved with the addition of an accelerometer-based control method, although, in the end, for many it wasn't very much fun to play after the nostalgia factor wore off due to similar performance Read More

Adequate but not great Sega Genesis/MegaDrive emulation
JindoFox 2.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
You've seen this game before; it's the home version of Golden Axe, except only one player can play. The hack and slash gameplay is intact as are the sounds and music, but everything is running slow, probably about 75% of full speed. The touchscreen or acceleromter controls are about as good as can be expected but this emulator really needs some more speed before any more games are released at $5 a pop. Hey Sega, how about releasing some 16-bit games that won't suffer so much from slow performance, like an RPG game or two?
Just like the original!!
HalloweenManiac 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
This game rox!! It's just like the original!! The controls are a little hard though. But otherwise, flawless!!
Weiner
Adam Griffith 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
Controls are very easy and simple. Gameplay is just like the old Sega game. Challenging and difficult enough to keep you trying to get a better score. I will be playing this for a long time.
Awsome!!!
kurtonic 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.0

Great game.
Tman789 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
Feels and plays just like an old arcade game. Multiplayer would be great, but I still have fun without it. Great job SEGA !
Blast from the past
Originalage 4.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
Wow, I haven't played since I was a child. Happy memories. This game is great; however, the controls could be a little more sensative.
Finally it is here!
Gooman130 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.0

Awesome game
iPod turtle1 4.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
This game is amazing. Just how I remembered playing it on my computer emulator. The only thing I would like is if you could do two player like the original through Internet or LAN. That would be amazing thanks sega!¡
Too slow
Hellbound13 2.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
Very slow, game lags a lot making it unplayable.
Good, but.....
IoooI 4.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
Old style
Please update!!!
Kurlflea 1.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
People... Ask sega for more. I bought this app cause I loved playing this game in the arcade. The genesis version is not what I wanted. At least redo the sound or something. A complete REMAKE would be nice though. Even konami remade a nice version of frogged. Shoot I could "jailbreak" my iPhone and play the arcade golden axe for free.
Simply crap
Rhode Island Red 1.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
Controls are bad and a bit lagy considering the other good games that the iPhone / iPod touch has to offer
old goodie, but so-so execution
kirp1979 2.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
how do you chose to continue game after dying ? none of the buttons work. if you can't, why show that option?
Nice!
SweetRR 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
Works great on the iPhone 3gs. Not so well on regular 3g. Great port! Now let's see some afterburner or altered beast!!
Don't waste your time

Sega damn it!!
WTF IS THIS?!!!!!!! 3.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
dear sega, why do you release your best genesis titles and let the controls be so crappy?everything else is right on.. fix the controls!! i miss the sega controller so simple yet RESPONSIVE!!
Update!!
BioNO2 1.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
This game needs an update for the controls!!!!!!! (Or just at least put infinite continues!!!!!)
Decent, but controls need work
Deviladv 3.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
Disclaimer: I played this on an original iphone. Maybe it works better on a 3GS. The game is what I know and love, but the screen controls are a little unforgiving and it's slow. I could beat the original golden axe on one quarter in the arcade and one start on Sega, but I have yet to get past half way because of silly mistakes made simply because when I wanted to go up or down, the touch screen detects left or right, or vice versa. Games need to be designed with this in mind, games that require twitch accuracy don't work well on the iPhone.
Poor
TigerStyle7421 2.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
Controls are not responsive, needs a sensitivity meter for the accelerometer, not worth the five buck.
It works fine on my iTouch 
Jefufu DunHAM.com 4.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
Because I restarted it after downloading and it isn't slow at all! For all you people that don't know how to continue, you press the start button! This is a good and challenging game that keeps me occupied for hours! I reccomend this for all of the people who played the original.

Great

This is a great Game. It would be fun to be able to play 2 player with Bluetooth. That should change other than that this is a must have game.
Awsome perfect
Jkillah Tampa bay 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
Omg you don't know how to continue use the pad to select yes not no then hit start Wow so hard…you rated 2 that's what your brain in operating on 2 out of five...douche
Great Sega Genesis/MegaDrive emulation on 3GS! But only adequate on 3G.
JindoFox 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
UPDATE: I upgraded my phone to a 3GS and this game now runs at full speed. If you have the latest and greatest, this is Genesis/MegaDrive Golden Axe exactly as you remember it (except for the 2nd player). It's worth the asking price and I'd love to see some more 16-bit emulated games on the platform.
Classic!!
Vi®uS 4.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
Very good game! Controls do need a little improvement, but they're not as bad as some say. Everything else is just as I remembered. Great game overall, a must buy!
