Google updated its Google+ app for iOS-based devices. The main new thing is Instant Upload, which once enabled will automatically upload all your photos and videos to a private album on Google+ from where you can easily share them with your circles, or the world. Please note that this new feature is only active while the Google+ iOS app is open, and for a brief period after you close it. Re-opening the Google+ app will resume uploads exactly where they left off. In addition, there’s a new “What’s Hot” stream, and the ability to shake your phone to send feedback to the Google+ team to help improve the overall experience. One of the new updates is instant uploading, which means that the app will automatically upload any photos or videos that you take with your iPhone or iPod touch to a private album on your Google+ profile. Instant uploading will only work when the Google+ app is open and for a short period afterwards. This new feature can be adjusted in the app settings to allow for uploading on Wi-Fi networks only, in order to prevent exorbitant data fees through your mobile carrier. Google has updated the Google+ iOS app today, adding a key mobile feature, which was previously only available to Android users. Do you use the video hangout feature of Google+ on a regular basis? If so, you might be happy to hear that you can now use your iPhone to join those video hangouts from the Google Messenger IM app. There's an update now available for the Google+ app that will give you the video love you crave. I was interested in the hangout capability, which arrived back in September, because there's a meeting I need to join into every week or so. That meeting takes place in a Google+ hangout, and up until this time I've been tied to either a desktop or laptop. The Google+ iOS app now offers built-in search. Google has tweaked its Google+ app for the iPhone to add built-in search and a couple of features previously available only on its Web site. Users of the social network can now search for specific people or posts, just as they can on the Google+ site. A search field appears at the top of the mobile app where one can enter a query by name or keyword. The app can now handle full resolution photographs, so images should retain their higher resolution after they're uploaded. However, while this version still isn’t Universal, so while iPad users will have to use pixel-doubling compatibility mode, it will install on all iOS devices running iOS 4 or later. Previously, the app was exclusive to the iPhone but it seems that google has found time to add support to one more device. The iPad support is not actually full support, but simply a double-pixeled iPhone simulation. Last June when Google started rolling out its new Facebook challenger, Google+, it didn't take long for the company to release an iPhone app. However, that iPhone app couldn't run on an iPod touch or an iPad. That's been rectified now as today Google has updated the Google+ iOS app to bring support to the iPod touch and iPad. But for you Google+ fans, don't get too excited. The Google+ iOS app still is not a universal app. Google has simply enabled the iPhone version of the app to run on the iPad. The Google+ app lets people read their stream of posts from people they follow and comment on them. Google has launched an iOS app to use its Google+ service, an important milestone for the fledgling social network that today caters to the techie in-crowd. Google Senior Vice President Vic Gundotra announced the iOS Google+ app today. "Share just the right stuff, with just the right circles," he said. The Google Plus social network has kicked into high gear, despite a limited number of available invites over the first few weeks. Starting today it's even easier for iOS users to share with Circles, follow a Stream or do rapid-fire messaging with a Huddle: the iPhone app for Google+ is now in the US store.
