Google Launches QR Code-Based Login Security Measure
Calendar16 Mon, 16 Jan 2012 22:32:00 UTC +00:00
Google has released a new way to securely log into Google accounts on public computers. Using a smartphone, scan the QR code generated at accounts.google.com/sesame. The Google login prompt will appear on your phone, and logging in there will log you into a session on the desktop. This prevents the user from having to type sensitive login credentials into a public machine, which could be compromised with keylogging software. The new QR code feature is an alternative to Google's 2-step verification. This generates a unique short code on your mobile, which you must input for each desktop login, using the presence of your phone as a form of identification. Adoption of QR codes is a slow-growing oddity. The last study we saw indicated that 5% of U.S. adults have scanned the 2D bar codes with their smartphones. QR codes allow us to put hyperlinks anywhere in the real world. We've seen Read More

Google Search app gets new look on iPad
Calendar16 Mon, 21 Nov 2011 22:00:00 UTC +00:00
Google's search app just got a big update on the iPad. The interface has been overhauled, and the app has added enough new features that it's finally replaced Mobile Safari's built-in search feature as my go-to source for internet info. The differences in the interface may seem subtle at first, but Google has added many powerful new features in this latest update. The app now supports Google Instant, making searches faster than ever before, but it also offers Instant Preview, a means of visually browsing through search results in a carousel-style interface without having to fully load the page. Search results appear in a slide-in pane from the right side of the screen; in landscape view this pane can be partially pinned to the right side, giving you a preview of pages as they load when you tap on search results in the main window. Using a similar interface to Instant Read More

Google has updated its powerful search app for iOS with a quicker way to filter results by type, as well as with support for pre-loading Instant Pages, which was recently added to the Chrome desktop browser. The update also adds a more intuitive, gesture-based help screen for figuring out the few key interface elements. It's a universal app for iPhone and iPad available now in the iTunes store. Last week, we reported on a leaked blog post from Google indicating that a new native search app is coming to Android as well, but that update still hasn't been released. The Google Search app offers much more power and convenience than the search bar built into the Safari browser. It offers voice queries and even photo recognition queries (in addition to text), it serves as a QR code reader and it's a quick launcher for Google's other mobile Web apps. Its main Read More

Google iPhone app gets update, revamped UI
Calendar16 Tue, 17 May 2011 19:52:18 UTC +00:00
The Google iPhone app has just received an update and while this won’t blow your socks off with new features, it does add some performance improvements and revamps the user interface. The Google iPhone app will now have improved search functionality, as the company said that it can up to 20 percent more responsive as you interact. You can now also do quicker voice searches with the “Just Talk” feature. As part of the speed improvements, a feature called “Just Talk” will now be off by default. Just Talk allowed you to search via voice just by bringing the phone to your ear and speaking rather than tapping the microphone icon. Turning off this feature may improve app performance, though you can easily re-enable it under the Settings > Voice Search menu . The UI in the Google iPhone app has also been revamped, as the font is bigger in order Read More

Posted 03/16/2011 at 5:10am | by J.R. Bookwalter No one panic -- the official Google iOS app has some big changes. For one, the app is now called Google Search instead of Google Mobile, with a fresh new user interface that’s a lot more suitable for Apple’s mobile OS, including the ability to swipe to fine-tune your search. On Tuesday, the Google Mobile Blog announced the latest version of their official, universal Google app, which is no longer called Google Mobile. Along with the new Google Search name comes a completely redesigned look and feel more befitting of the search giant’s core business. “First, you’ll see that there are now more ways to interact with the app,” explains Alastair Tse and Robert Hamilton on Google’s blog (respectively the software engineer and product manager). “When browsing through search results or looking at a webpage, you can swipe down to see the search Read More
Google revamps its iPhone search app
Calendar16 Wed, 16 Mar 2011 13:49:26 UTC +00:00
Google has revamped its iPhone app. Google has retooled its free iPhone app with a new name, a streamlined look and feel, and an easier way to narrow your search results, helping the mobile app work more like the Web site. With its name changed from Google Mobile App to simply Google Search, the revised app launched yesterday for the iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad. Right off the bat, Google users will notice that the screen resembles the one found on Google's Web page with a simple field in which you can type your query. Tapping a microphone icon lets you speak your query, while a camera icon lets you search for products and other items by snapping their photos. In response to your query Google displays the familiar search results page, but with a twist. Swiping your finger from left to right displays a sidebar on the left with options Read More

One of the major, new feature of Google Search app is the ability to swipe down on the screen to see the search bar or change your search settings while you browse through search results or just by looking at webpage. Google Search for iPhone Premiers Today in the App Store
Calendar16 Wed, 16 Mar 2011 00:05:21 UTC +00:00
Those of you who read iDB regularly know how particular I am when it comes to my apps. I like a clean and tidy home screen. One application that seemed to always find a spot on my iPhone was Google Mobile. It was simple, it loaded quickly, and the voice search option was extremely accurate. It was my go-to app for quick lookups. Today, Google Mobile was replaced by Google Search. The name is different, but the concept is not too far off from its predecessor. It has an accurate voice search function, and uses your location to return local results. Although very similar, there are some notable differences in the new search app… The updated interface is the first thing you’ll notice. When you first launch the app, you are greeted with a nice tutorial. This will help you get better acquainted with the new UI. One of the things Read More
By Chris Oldroyd, Tuesday, Mar 15, 2011 | The popular Google Mobile app has just received a major update and a complete name change too — it will now be known simply as Google Search. The update offers more ways to interact with the app using swipe gestures. Swiping down in a page will reveal the search bar whilst browsing. There is also a dedicated apps button for quick access to mobile versions of Google Apps. A new toolbar is available to filter search results; again a swipe is initiated to access this toolbar, left to right. If you leave the app and come back later, you’ll be able to either start a new search by typing in the search box, hit the microphone button to do a voice search or tap on the camera icon to use Google Goggles. If you want to get back to exactly where you were Read More
Google Mobile app for iOS gets major revamp, new name
Calendar16 Tue, 15 Mar 2011 22:45:00 UTC +00:00
Google has released a major update to the Google Mobile app for iOS, with new features and a new name -- Google Search for iPhone (free). The app has a completely redesigned user interface, and according to the developers, they've improved fast app-switching support. Multi-touch gestures have been added -- to make a search more specific, you swipe right on the results that appear, and a vertical toolbar appears allowing you to focus on places, images, news, shopping (both in stores and online), videos, Twitter and Facebook updates, blogs or discussions. A downward swipe lets you access settings and log into your Google account. Even the help system is different in Google Search for iOS. When you tap on the question mark icon to display help, a transparent window with glowing blue spots overlaying areas of the user interface appears. Touching any of the blue spots displays an explanation of what Read More

Yesterday, we went over the top 10 free iPhone Apps available on the App Store (the paid apps, too). It was a list of the most downloaded free applications of all time. While it may not always reflect the quality of each App, it does indicate their popularity. That said, there are also plenty of iPad Apps that are getting attention. Here's a List of the most popular:    Pandora on the iPad is great for listening to music while you browse, or catch up on your RSS feeds. You simply search for the artist or music you want to listen to and hit play. There's a lot to listen to on Pandora radio, and it's a free App worth taking a look at. Much like Google Mobile for iPhone, Google mobile for iPad gives you a suite of Google applications within a single iPad App. You can search the internet Read More
Google Goggles, a neat visual search tool that first made its way into the last October, has just received some nifty upgrades. Firstly, pointing your iDevice camera at US print advertisements (those from August 2010 onward) will display more info about that product/service online. Secondly, GG will now help Sudoku fiends solve the puzzle at hand with the help of the onboard camera: Our favorite weekend distraction is a quiet 15 minutes spent solving a Sudoku puzzle. But even that can be an frustrating experience if (like us) you make a mistake and are unable to solve the puzzle. Now, Goggles on Android and iPhone can recognize puzzles and provide answers to help make you faster than a Sudoku champ. So if you ever get stuck, take a clear picture of the entire puzzle with Goggles and we’ll tell you the correct solution. Check out this video to see how it Read More

In addition to the new Sudoku-solving abilities, this update also can scan any printed advertisement and return web results for whatever product or service the ad is for. Word Lens is one of those apps that grabs your attention the first time you see it in action. Created by Quest Visual, it is an iPhone-based optical character recognition (OCR) application used for language translation. In real-world usage, it will translate a foreign language sign in an instant using your camera. Word Lens uses OCR to single out the letters in an image captured by your camera. It identifies letters, builds the words and looks them up in its built-in dictionary. Once the words are identified, translation from one language to another is easy. Translation is not perfect, but it is good enough to get the basic understanding of the translated words. Word Lens is similar in functionality to Google Goggles, which also lets you translate words within an image. Word Lens, though, has a leg up on its competition as the image processing and translating is done on the Read More

Google Goggles goes into marketing
Calendar16 Tue, 16 Nov 2010 22:00:00 UTC +00:00
Google has started running an advertising experiment inside its Goggles mobile visual search application. This merges offline marketing with the mobile Web. Google is working with five brands -- Buick, Disney, Diageo, T-Mobile and Delta Airlines -- to offer print ads, movie posters and other media that will support Google Goggles. When you take a picture of any such ad, using Google Goggles on your Android device or iPhone, Goggles will recognize the content and allow you to click through directly to a mobile destination from that brand. It's clear that if this experiment proves successful by any metric, Google will expand it to include as many brands as possible. If you want to give it a try, you'll have to download Google Goggles from the Android Market or the Google Mobile App from the iTunes App Store. A demo video of the new functionality is after the break. Read More
Google Goggles has just launched an initiative with a few partners, including T-Mobile, Buick, Disney, Diageo (parent company to Guiness, Smirnoff, Captain Morgan, and other brands) and Delta Airlines. Basically, those companies are making their print ads recognizable to Google Goggles so that when someone takes a picture with the Android or iPhone app for scanning, it launches into a tailored mobile web experience. Google Goggles has been around for a little while now, offering image recognition search through cameras on smartphones. The categories of scanable objects has expanded, from movie posters to text, to logos, art, landmarks, and more. This partnership with some pretty big names will prove to be an interesting experiment in whether or not this kind of advertising works. QR codes have been around for awhile, and some companies are playing with them in marketing, but for many people the whole process is just a bit too Read More

New Apps for Your Smartphone, October Edition
Calendar16 Wed, 13 Oct 2010 19:00:00 UTC +00:00
There are some 225,000 mobile applications for the iPhone now and 70,000 for Android, so every so often we like to highlight a few that have caught our attention. This latest edition of our favorite smartphone apps includes a few in testing, a few we're madly in love with, some notable updates and some you may not have even heard of yet. Instagram (iPhone): OK, we're dubbing this one the "app of the month." Initially called Burbn, the original app was transformed into Instagram, a photo-sharing service and image editor. With a number of built-in filters, you can turn your iPhone photos into more attractive and interesting versions of themselves, then share them either publicly or privately with fellow app users. Your friends' photos are in a section called "Feed" and the most popular photos from across Instagram are found in the "Popular" section. While what Instagram is doing is not Read More
Amazon's iPhone app gets barcode scanning update
Calendar16 Wed, 13 Oct 2010 01:30:00 UTC +00:00
Earlier today, Keith reported that Delicious Library developer Wil Shipley had barcode scanning on his radar as a future iteration for the late, lamented iPhone version of the popular catalog app. Lo and behold, within a few hours the newest update to the Amazon Mobile app hit the store -- featuring, you guessed it, barcode scanning. With the new 1.2.8 version of the free app, and an iPhone 4 or 3GS running iOS 4.x, you can quickly scan a product barcode to search Amazon's catalog for matching items. The scanning screen offers a handy bracketing guide to show you where to position your product, and once you get the hang of it the scanning is very quick. I tested the barcode scan on three products I had lying about -- a Griffin Motif case for the iPhone 4, a Flip Mino box, and a James Patterson novel -- and the app Read More

Google Mobile App Update Adds Google Goggles
Calendar16 Fri, 08 Oct 2010 18:02:46 UTC +00:00
Google recently updated their app to include a feature called Google Goggles. This allows you to search by just taking a picture. It works great on labels & logos. It’s also supposed to work on landmarks, books, art work and business cards. The feature has been available for Android phones for a while but has just now been added to the iPhone. Now we just need to get Google Maps Navigation on the iPhone! Read More

Google Goggles comes to iOS
Calendar16 Wed, 06 Oct 2010 17:00:00 UTC +00:00
Google Goggles has finally made its debut on Apple's iOS. Having been snapping pictures and searching the Web for a while on Android handsets, Goggles has now been rolled into the already feature rich Google mobile application for iOS. This means that big G now gives you three ways to find what you're looking for on an iPhone -- voice, photos, and plain old text search. Given the accuracy and usability that Google's voice search has on an iPhone, I was excited to see whether Goggles followed in the same vein. Google mobile app [iTunes] - Free Read More
Google Goggles image recognition debuts on iPhone
Calendar16 Wed, 06 Oct 2010 01:45:00 UTC +00:00
Android users have been enjoying Google Goggles for a while; now, the image recognition feature has made it over to the iPhone. The first hints that GG would make the leap to iPhone came back in August, and we're glad to see it here now. Google Goggles delivers the kind of visual product search and recognition features found in SnapTell (now owned by Amazon) and Kooaba. While it's a separate app on the Android Market, on iPhone it's bundled in with the existing Google Mobile app. As the video shows, with Google Goggles (not to be confused with other, similar sounding technologies), you can use visual recognition to search for information with your iPhone's camera -- even translate text from other languages into English on demand. The service works best on copy, logos, book covers, landmarks, wine labels and other easily recognized images; it doesn't do so well with organic shapes Read More

Google Goggles Arriving on iPhone via Google Mobile App
Calendar16 Tue, 05 Oct 2010 22:23:58 UTC +00:00
By –   The Google Mobile App for iPhone has just been updated to include Google Goggles. The feature allows you to take pictures of objects such as books or landmarks to identify them. The video above shows how it's done. It's a neat technology, but it's limited to iOS devices with autofocus. That means you need an iPhone 3GS or an iPhone 4. Still, it's a cool new addition to an already cool App. Google Mobile App at App Store Related Posts Read More
posted by Jonathan Kizer on Tuesday, October 5, 2010 at 3:09 pm.   Google Goggles is now available for download in the iTunes App Store, but you have to have the right device. The only two devices with hardware good enough to be accepted by Google are the iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS. Why not iPod touch 4, iPhone 3G, and below you ask? Simple; the app requires an auto-focus camera. Google Goggles is one of those features Android, Google’s very own smartphone OS, (previously) could claim exclusivity to. The app takes a photo of an object, and scans a vast internet database to find images that are similar. It then figures out what those images are labeled as, and then gives you as much relevant information as it can. For example, a picture of the Eiffel Tower in Paris, France would be examined, searched, and then you would get background Read More

Google Mobile App for iPhone adds Google Goggles support
Calendar16 Tue, 05 Oct 2010 20:24:45 UTC +00:00
By Rene Ritchie, Tuesday, Oct 5, 2010 | Google Mobile App for iPhone has just added Google Goggles support. Goggles is the awesomely named camera-search based service that debuted on Android and lets you find information about something just by taking a picture of it. In the new version of Google Mobile App just tap on the camera button to search using Goggles. Goggles will analyze the image and highlight the objects it recognizes — just click on them to find out more. You can see how it works in the video after the break. It’s totally Star Trek, but it’s also still a work in progress according to Google: Computer vision is a hard problem and Google Goggles is still a Labs product. It works well for things such as landmarks, logos and the covers of books, DVDs and games. However, it doesn’t yet work for some things you might Read More
Google Goggles Finally Hits the iPhone

Are you big on Google products and service, but you absolutely adore your iPhone? You’ve probably been envying your Android counterparts who have been sporting Google Goggles for the past year while you’ve been snapping pics and asking the Twitter collective, “Hey guys, what is this thing?” Those days are well behind you now, my friends. Google Goggles was first introduced last December, and it was a pretty exciting idea to know that you could search items just by taking a picture of it. For the most part, it works very well, but it was missing from a really popular platform: iPhone OS/iOS. It’s very simple according to Google: In the new version of Google Mobile App just tap on the camera button to search using Goggles. Goggles will analyze the image and highlight the objects it recognizes — just click on them to find out more. But it does have Read More

GooTasks syncs tasks from Google
Calendar16 Thu, 23 Sep 2010 14:00:00 UTC +00:00
We all know that trying to sync up tasks from your Google account to your iPhone / iPad can be a laborious, if not impossible, task! And if you didn't know that, ... now you do. The only way to access Google tasks is through mobile Safari or another Web browser. Even Google Mobile App will direct you to the Web-based version of Google tasks, via Safari. And, as it stands, there is no way to access Google tasks on the iOS Mail.app either, only notes can be synced through that. No one's saying the Web-based version of Google tasks is such a bad thing, but if you're desperate to deal with your Google tasks through an app, with that app feel, shine and shimmer, then check out GooTasks. GooTasks is a straight forward and very simple app. It allows you to manage, create, edit, and delete Google tasks from various Read More

Google Adds Push Notifications to Mobile App
Calendar16 Mon, 23 Aug 2010 23:44:18 UTC +00:00
Posted 08/23/2010 at 3:44pm | by Ambika Subramony It's always been a bit of a pain to integrate our beloved Gmail and Google Calendar with our Apple devices. Syncing Google Calendar requires setting up an Exchange account--an extra hoop that makes Google syncing a lot less effortless than something like MobileMe. Thankfully, Google has given all of us loyal users a handy solution--Push notifications for their own mobile app! Google's Mobile App has always been a nice way to check Gmail and Google Calendar. It's well designed and has voice search. But, it never felt all that integrated with our iPhones, since it lacked a notification system. Hopefully Google's newest update, which adds push notifications, will make the app feel a little more native. Get it here! Tags: Read More
Google Brings Push Notifications to the iPhone
Calendar16 Mon, 23 Aug 2010 20:27:07 UTC +00:00
The Google Mobile application for the iPhone now offers push notifications for Gmail and the Google Calendar. The app is free in the App Store and is said to offer “real” notifications that give you message type previews. Previously iPhone users were required to use a 3rd party service to bring these types of notifications to their iPhones. Also included in the app is “search as you type” results. Let us know if you’re able to download the update and tell us how its working in our comment box. Read More

Google sync issue for iPhone sends you to web dead end
Calendar16 Wed, 07 Jul 2010 20:30:00 UTC +00:00
How much does Google hate the iPhone? Well, I can count two ways. One is in the pisspoor shape of the Google Mobile app for iPhone. I begrudgingly use it because of the insta-local searches. Yeah, Google on Safari is supposed to work this way as well, but more often than not I have to add a click to get local results. But seriously, have you used the Google Mobile app lately? Gotta love that jump from previous searches to search bar, often causing a misfire when you really wanted to search for something recent again. Back in March there was a nasty push notification issue as well. Then today I ran into a particularly nasty thing using Google Calendar. In theory you can sync more than one calendar with the iPhone using Google Sync. Of course, on the iPhone it isn't an app itself, so you go to m.google.com/sync in Read More

Editor’s note: The following guest post is by Krishna Subramanian, co-founder of mobile ad exchange Mobclix. Mobile search is still one of the big unclaimed prizes on the mobile web. Everyone from Google and Yahoo to Apple is going after it, but Microsoft’s Bing may stealthily become the king of the castle by aggressively promoting Bing through mobile apps. Let’s look at each player’s mobile search strategy. During the Apple keynote in April, Steve Jobs announced the new iPhone 4.0, iAd and a few other features even he didn’t seem too excited about. Out of the many mediocre features, Mr. Jobs happened to squeeze in a declaration that, “ On mobile, search hasn’t happened. People aren’t searching on their phones.” During the keynote at WWDC this month, Mr. Jobs declared that iPhone 4 users would have the opportunity to select their search engine from among Google, Yahoo, and Bing. Bada Bing! Microsoft delivers Bing search app
Calendar16 Wed, 16 Dec 2009 18:45:00 UTC +00:00
Search is really getting interesting these days. Microsoft late last night released Bing [iTunes link] for the iPhone -- a full featured free app offering search, movies, maps, and directions, all with voice control. It's notable that Microsoft is going after iPhone mind-share after Steve Ballmer famously dissed the iPhone more than 2 years ago. He's had to sit back and watch the iPhone eclipse Windows Mobile phones in the marketplace, which can't be pleasant, but business is business, and Microsoft is pushing the Bing search suite of tools hard. After spending some time with it last night and this morning, I can say that it works pretty well. I think on-screen it is more attractive than the Google Mobile app offering [iTunes link] and the voice control is about as accurate. On the Bing home screen there are direct links to images, movies, maps, businesses, news and directions. It inverts Read More
Read More

The Week's Best iPhone Apps [IPhone Apps]
Calendar16 Sat, 12 Dec 2009 00:40:00 UTC +00:00
In this week's mildly paranoid iPhone app roundup: Prices, slashed for the holidays! iPhones, recklessly tilted! Amazing classic games, handily ported! A decent camera app, sold for nothing! Cheap tickets, booked! Dictations, taken! Movies trivia, two ways! And much, much more... If you hate hate hate galleries, click here to view the apps as a single page. • Google Mobile: This update keeps the app from launching into Safari as much as it used to, and widens its voice capabilities. A minor but useful upgrade. • My Name and Head Shoulders Knees & Toes: I suspect most of you don't reader these roundups to find ways to entertain your children. But if you do, My Name, which will teach your tot how to spell whatever is on his birth certificate, and Head, Shoulders Knees and Toes, which makes a simple touch game out of the children's song, will distract them long Read More

IMDb is now available on the iPhone by way of a dedicated application, chock-full of ratings, pictures, trailers, showtimes, and TV listings for over 1.5 million movies and TV shows, and containing info on 3.2 million celebrities. You can download it here for free from the iTunes store. Desert Island Apps – Number 6, with Dan Cohen
Calendar16 Sun, 15 Nov 2009 18:31:54 UTC +00:00
Today we ‘re continuing our series called Desert Island Apps.  It ‘s based on a very long-running and brilliant BBC Radio show called ‘Desert Island Discs ‘.  The premise of Desert Island Discs is simple and wonderful “ a guest is invited to choose the eight musical pieces (originally records) they would take with them if they were stranded on a desert island. In our case of course we ‘re not interested in our guests ‘ choice of music.  What we want to know is which six iPhone apps they would take with them if stranded on an island. We ‘re leaving the playing field pretty wide open for them “ letting them assume they ‘ve got WiFi and full connectivity on their island. I ‘m very happy to say that for today ‘s post we ‘ve got Dan Cohen as our ‘guest ‘.  Dan used to be a major contributor Read More

Reviews

Other Reviewers Don't Understand What This Is
Mike Ishi 5.0 stars Version: 0.1.337
This is meant to be like "Google Desktop" for the iPhone/iPod. It doesn't solely search webpages, it searches your entire phone for things in your contacts, calendar, etc.
Googles Easter egg
m_thoroughbred 5.0 stars Version: 0.3.144
This app is awesome. And it got more awesome with this little trick. Tired of using the app to search something only to see the app close and open safari well no more. What you need to do for the app to open your search with in it's own browser you must do the following. Open the app and tap the settings tab scroll all the way down till you get to about. This is where the trick comes in keep scrolling like if there was something past about. The screen will will bounce letting you know it can't scroll any further don't stop keep at it eventually you will see a new title under about named bells and whistles. That's another submenu tap that and you will find new options like color themes for the app new two new sounds for when you do voice searches as well as open search with in the app option. The key to finding this menu is to go to the settings menu and scroll past about and keep on scrolling till you see it appear. I hope you guys enjoy this.
Impressive
ilogic 4.0 stars Version: 0.1.337
It's the same ol' google we love but enhanced with intelligent word suggestions, search results refresh as you're typing which nifty. Now add these enhancement to the other services and you have a smarter google on your iPhone.
This app is getting a bad rap
James Baxter 4.0 stars Version: 0.1.337
I think people seem to think Google just pooped this out to increase mindshare or that it's a glorified/redundant gloss on the MobileSafari search bar. But in fact it's an elegantly designed specialized search tool that concentrates Google's offerings for when you just want to hunt down specific information and don't need full unstructured web browsing. If that statement makes you scratch your head or groan, this app probably isn't for you. But don't knock it on that basis. It's useful and nicely presented.
Somewhat like Google Desktop - but needs work!
Jim Tatsuda 2.0 stars Version: 0.1.337
The nice part about the app is that it will search my contacts for names. However, there are several caveats on this search. Some of them are:
Great & much faster!!!!!
beussery.com 5.0 stars Version: 0.1.337
Great & much faster than previous versions! : )
Only good for search, skip "Explore More"
hummingcrow 2.0 stars Version: 0.1.337
Good for searching, because its query completion and auto-generated shortcuts let you search with a lot less typing. But that’s it. Don’t bother with the huge “Explore more Google products” button. All those Google product icons just launch within Safari. You can bookmark them and get the same result. I’d been hoping they would launch in a more mobile device-friendly way. Clicking “Calendar” takes you to a Google search page where you can click a “Calendar” hyperlink. Uh, how about taking me directly to my calendar? Yeah, 2 stars, and one of those because the app is free.
Great
BenBro 5.0 stars Version: 0.1.337
Excellent interface, very well done.
Fast and handy
Ajv ajv 5.0 stars Version: 0.1.337
I like this a lot. Better and faster then going to the web. Imtergates well with maps.
Quick and perfect, just like google
Jitle 5.0 stars Version: 0.1.337
The suggests and the in window browser is beautiful. This is first screen type material
Like Quicksilver for your iPhone...
WaterMedia 2.0 stars Version: 0.1.337
Except modular apps seem to make more sense here without a giant hard drive. It works great, and used the web alonside your own data, but if I want a contact or location I'd rather use an app made just for this.
Unimpressive, slow, crashy
mahuti 2.0 stars Version: 0.1.337
This app is too slow to type casually when entering a search. I'd rather just take a bit longer to type. Also it crashed several times while using it.
The best part - search your own phone!
Hermitcrabb 5.0 stars Version: 0.1.337
Many reviewers have missed the big point of this app. If all we wanted to do was do a google search, we could already do that in Safari. What this app addsis the ability to search your own phone's content. Yep! It searches your contacts, emails, and calender as well! That's a function I wish Apple had added originally, but here it's available for free. Great!
Not impressed
th3gh05t 2.0 stars Version: 0.1.337
C'mon Google..you can do better than this. The apps in Safari are better
This isn't just a search bar.
bileduct 5.0 stars Version: 0.1.337
Maybe the description of the app isn't clear enough, or maybe people are posting "reviews" based on just looking at the screen shot without trying it.
Amazingly fast!
VidaGeek 5.0 stars Version: 0.1.337
Love it! Google + Apple make a great pair. :)
Love it!
THE REAL LION 5.0 stars Version: 0.1.337
This replaces my safari conveniently. I haven't used safary since I downloaded this app. What is it not to like about it?
Differs from the Maps app... how?
J. Scott 4.0 stars Version: 0.1.337
Thanks for throwing out a free app Google! We love you. But, can you help us understand why we should load this app on top of the "Maps" app that already is on our iPhone? Hint: The Google marketing department should be able to help with this.
Apple: Where is the voice search version?

Apple: Where is the voice search version?
Good
nicgrant 5.0 stars Version: 0.1.337
Its a pretty sweet app, better than using google on safari
It NEEDS an In-App Web Browser.
andreim 2.0 stars Version: 0.3.1448
Dear goole, If other apps like Byline which uses GReader can pull the content from the web and not force me to go open safari every single time, how is your alternative useful? The "apps" tab aren't truly apps. They're just links. This means: open google app / tap google reader/ google app closes / open safari. Repeat process for the many useful and already iphone formated webapps you have and it just makes sense to use safari instead of this app.
This is NOT just like using Google search on Safari
sckyt 5.0 stars Version: 0.1.337
I love this app, perhaps one of the most useful ones out there. As I type it offers suggestions for search terms, looks for matching contacts on my iPhone, nearby locations, etc. I don't understand why some people are saying it does just the same as Google search on Safari. And as everything with Google, it's lightning fast.
Again
kingkong22 1.0 stars Version: 0.3.2002.1850
Again this does not work with the ipod touch even if u have the earphones with mic! I was thinking with the 3.0 verison update it would have the abitiy to use the ipod touch with the earphone mic. I really would want it to work with the ipod touch and i have the earphone with the mic!
So, why should I open the Google Mobile app just to open other apps?
MyMac8MyPC 3.0 stars Version: 0.3.144
Google could have made this app a lot better....
Great Voice Recognition, but...
MacAce55 4.0 stars Version: 0.3.142
Why can't I dial a contact via voice, when I can do so through the keyboard? Please click "Yes" if you think Google needs to add this feature.
