Group texts can be liberating and educational, as long as it's done with consenting, trustworthy partners. So rejoice, iOS Google Voice users. With today's update, you can finally be an SMS swinger. Other app improvements include integration with Sprint iPhones, an expanded text entry field, and one-touch copy/paste in the dialpad. They're welcome upgrades to an already terrific service. Just remember that safe text is especially important in a large group. [http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/google-voice/id318698524?mt=8iTunes] Read More
By Andrew Wray, Wednesday, Dec 21, 2011 | Google has updated their Google Voice app for the iPhone, including complete integration with Sprint to allow calls to be sent directly to the 3rd party app rather than the stock Phone app. Here’s the complete update log: This is rather big news, and somewhat surprising that Sprint would allow this to happen. Given the nature of most carriers these days, letting subscribers bypass their network completely is a good indication that Sprint has their ears open and are actually listening to the requests of their user-base. Google Voice is available in the App Store for free and compatible with the iPhone and iPod touch. Have an app you’d love to see featured on TiPb? Google Voice Returns to the App Store, iOS 5 Crash Fixed
Calendar16 Sat, 22 Oct 2011 17:09:54 UTC +00:00
posted by Jacob Penderworth on Saturday, October 22, 2011 at 10:09 am.   The official Google Voice app for iPhone returned to the App Store yesterday, after mysteriously disappearing about a week ago. Apple removed the app because it crashed on login when opened on iOS 5, rendering it unusable. It now has full compatibility with iOS 5 and doesn’t crash anymore, so all is well. Google Voice for iPhone is available free to all on the App Store here. Read More

By Leanna Lofte, Friday, Oct 21, 2011 | Less than a week since Google Voice voluntarily pulled their iPhone app from the App Store, it has already returned and is ready for iOS 5. Google removed the the app earlier this week because of an incompatibility issue that was causing Google Voice to crash at sign in. Google Voice is available on the iPhone for free. Read More

Google pulls Voice app from App Store to address stability
Calendar16 Mon, 17 Oct 2011 17:30:00 UTC +00:00
Those with a new iPhone 4S who want to install Google's Voice app are out of luck for a while. Google was forced to pull the app after complaints about its stability arose. According to Google Voice Product Manager Vincent Paquet, there is a bug in the sign-in code that causes the app to crash immediately on opening. The bug only affects this most recent release and earlier versions of the app reportedly still work without error. Google is fixing the error and will have a new version of the app available as soon as possible. As of the writing of this post, a Google search will pull up the information for the old version of the app. If you try to download this broken version via iTunes, you will receive an "The item you've requested is not currently available in the US store." error. Google has not provided a time Read More
TiPb Picks of the Week for September 24, 2011
Calendar16 Sat, 24 Sep 2011 21:40:55 UTC +00:00
By Leanna Lofte, Saturday, Sep 24, 2011 | Every week a few of us from team TiPb will bring you our current favorite, most fun and useful App Store apps, WebApps, jailbreak apps, even the occasional accessory, web site, or desktop app if the mood strikes us. As long as they’re iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch related, they’re fair game. To see what we picked, and to tell us your pick, follow on after the break! When the apps started flowing for Google Voice, we couldn’t get enough of them. But the fervor died down, and we haven’t heard anything about them in a while, so I thought I’d revisit my most used of the Google Voice apps. I’m a huge GV user, and use it primarily for my students. They can use my GV number as a homework help line, to answer bonus questions, or to call in speaking assignments. Read More
Posted 03/25/2011 at 4:52am | by J.R. Bookwalter Since the official Google Voice app landed in the iOS App Store, there hasn’t been a lot of chatter from developers of third-party apps, which had long been the only way to use the service on your iPhone. One of the original Google Voice apps has returned after a lengthy hiatus with GV Mobile+ 2.0. Developer Sean Kovacs has quietly released a major new 2.0 update to his popular GV Mobile+ app. You may recall that GV Mobile was one of the first Google Voice apps to hit the App Store, then got caught up in the crossfire between Apple and Google when the search giant’s official app got rejected. Dropped from the App Store, Kovacs went underground to offer GV Mobile via the jailbreak Cydia app, only to triumphantly return with GV Mobile+ last September. Since then, Google has released their own Read More
GV Mobile + Updated With New UI, Push, and More

posted by Trey Trawick on Thursday, March 24, 2011 at 11:09 pm.   Sean Kovacs has updated his insanely popular GV Mobile + app to version 2.0… point 031811. The update brings oodles of new features, such as picture messaging, search, push and much, much more. GV+ works on the iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad, and allows users to make calls, send and receive SMS, and manage voicemail messages straight from their iDevice. While not as slick as Sprint’s soon-to-be Voice integration, GV Mobile + is just about the closest the iPhone will get to Google Voice. You Got An iPhone. Now What?

The gift-giving holidays have just wrapped up (no pun intended) and that means ‘s have been unwrapped all around the world this year. If this is your first iPhone, congratulations and welcome to the club (even though you are a bit late to the game). There are thousands of apps, customizations, and accessories to try, but where should you start? Here’s an IntoMobile list of the best ways to take advantage of your new iPhone. Battery life on the iPhone has been a problem since Apple first released Push email functionality. Turning off Push email significantly increases battery life. To do this go to Settings -> Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Fetch New Data and toggle the “Push” setting to the “OFF” position. Note: Push email and Push notifications are not the same thing. I constantly receive Push notifications from Twitter and Instagram without affecting battery life. Unfortunately, if you are an iPhone owner, Read More
Even when vying for industry dominance, sometimes a company’s competitors are also its best friends.  This is definitely true of Apple and Google   when it comes to the cloud.  I took inventory of the apps on my iPhone and found no less than twenty apps from first- and third-party sources that tapped into various Google web-based services. By contrast, only Apple’s own various MobileMe apps plugged into its cloud offerings. Here’s a rundown of just how dependent Apple’s smartphone is on the services of its current biggest rival. Seven of the apps I’ve installed to access Google’s cloud-based services come directly from Google itself.  When Apple relaxed some of its App Store restrictions (and perhaps thanks to a little help from the FCC), Google brought Google Voice to iOS devices.  More recently, Google introduced its official Latitude app, which also took the long way round to the App Store.  Lets not forget Read More
Google Voice App Updated – Supports iPad and iPod touch
Calendar16 Tue, 14 Dec 2010 19:10:31 UTC +00:00
Today, the Google Voice application received an update. The update actually includes quite a few new features and bug fixes however, one of the cool new features is it has integrated support for both the iPad and the iPod touch. Since we launched Google Voice for iPhone a few weeks ago, we’ve been hard at work to add a few improvements that didn’t make it into the first release. At the top of the list was adding support for iPod Touch and iPad. Starting today, you can download a new version of Google Voice that lets you use all the features of the app on these devices, such as sending and receiving free text messages – except, of course, make cellular calls. While you can’t use your iPod or iPad as a phone, you can use it to initiate Google Voice calls with your phones. We call this feature Click2Call. Simply Read More
6 Tips for Turning Your iPhone into an Android Phone

href="http://digg.com/submit?url=http%3A//www.ismashphone.com/2010/12/turning-your-iphone-into-an-android-phone.html"> Right now much of the mobile world seems to be strongly divided between iOS and Android. Both are great mobile operating systems with their own unique features. There are areas where Android is ahead, and there are areas where iOS is ahead. Let’s take a look at some of the features that can make your iPhone feel more like an Android device: Non-Jailbreak 1) Google Voice Google Voice officially made its way to the iPhone last month. It combines your SMS messages, dialer and Google Voice mail messages within the App. Push notifications will alert you when someone sends a message to your Google voice number. 2) CoPilot This isn’t a Google application, but it’s a great navigation App for the iPhone. It works well and the price is reasonable at $19.99 if you already have an iPhone. Our recommendation? Make sure you have a car charger and somewhere to Read More
Google Voice
Calendar16 Mon, 06 Dec 2010 03:20:24 UTC +00:00
I personally think Android offers one the most open phone experiences a customer can buy even with some of its quirky issues. One of the more promising ideas is not being tied to a carrier or one phone. The Google Voice app is available in the Android Market and comes ready with all it’s awesome features for Android devices. If you don’t know what Google Voice is, look it up. There are some great videos explaining what it does. My job was to see if the app works well and it definitely pulls through. You can listen to and read your voicemails, make and receive calls, as well as send text messages. The transcription is just as buggy as ever but as a whole, the app worked fine. If you have a Google Voice account, this app is a no-brainer. It offers some of the more interesting features Google has to Read More

Apple lässt offizielle Google-Voice-App passieren
Calendar16 Tue, 16 Nov 2010 20:11:54 UTC +00:00
Read More
Official Google Voice App Finally Hits the App Store
Calendar16 Tue, 16 Nov 2010 19:42:45 UTC +00:00
After only one + years of being (cough, cough) ‘under review’ by Apple, the official Google Voice app for the iPhone has hit the App Store. Back In September, Apple allowed two third party Google Voice apps back into the App Store, marking a reversal of their previous rejection of these apps. They had never officially rejected Googles own Google Voice app, but had also never approved it until this week – which has long been thought to be another result of the souring relations between Apple and Google over the last couple years. Here’s the details on the new Google Voice app, via its App Store page: Access your Google Voice account right from your iPhone. Receive push notifications for new text or voicemail messages. Send free text messages to U.S. numbers and make international calls at cheap rates. Listen to your voicemail, read transcripts and manage your Google Voice Read More
Google Voice iPhone app now available in App Store
Calendar16 Tue, 16 Nov 2010 20:25:24 UTC +00:00
Google Voice is back in the App Store more than a year after Apple first began removing Google Voice apps in July 2009. Third-party apps like GV Mobile and GV Connect were re-admitted in September, but there’s now an official app from Google to load onto your phone. Android has had a fully-integrated Google Voice app for months, while iPhone users have had to rely on an HTML5 web app. Now iOS can get native access to dialing with GV numbers, sending SMS messages through Google Voice, read voice mail transcriptions, and place international calls with paid credits. “I could already do that stuff on the web app,” you say? Yes, but now it’s done the native way and quickly. Plus you’ll get additional benefits previously unavailable through Safari, including: Anyone in the U.S. who has iOS 3.1 or higher can start placing calls immediately. Google Voice app for iOS available now
Calendar16 Tue, 16 Nov 2010 19:40:00 UTC +00:00
The official Google Voice application for the iPhone has finally arrived in the iTunes App Store. After more than a year from Apple's rejection of Google's first Voice app for the iPhone, almost ten months since Google responded with an HTML5-based mobile Web app, and about 6 weeks since it was reportedly approved by Apple, it's here. The app has all the features you'd expect, including getting cheap rates for international calls, free texts to US numbers, voicemail transcription, and displaying your Google Voice number as your caller ID when making calls. It also has support for push notifications, to instantly alert you when you receive a new voicemail or text message. Google says that 'most' of the calls made through this app will be placed via Direct Access Numbers -- Google assigns a unique phone number to each person you call, which results in the app not needing to connect Read More

posted by Trey Trawick on Tuesday, November 16, 2010 at 12:08 pm.   Originally submitted by Jacob The long-awaited official Google Voice application has finally made its way to the App Store, just two months after the first batch of unofficial Voice apps were approved. Google has been working on getting this app approved for over a year, and after its initial rejection, decided to remake it as an HTML5 web app to bypass Apple’s strict rules. In September, Apple decided to relax their guidelines in effort to please the EU, who had begun an antitrust investigation into Apple’s policies. These changes have since allowed a number of previously reject-able apps into the App Store, such as Opera Mini, Skyfire, VLC, and more. Google Voice is free, and uses data for SMS and calls, which makes it a great choice for budget-conscious users. The email-esque voicemail feature is especially handy (and doesn’t require you to change Read More

Over the past few years, there has been no shortage of developers complaining about how long Apple has taken to approve their iPhone applications. But few have waited as long as Google for the Google Voice application. But today brings great news: the wait is over. Yes, the app is real, it’s approved, and it should be live at this link. The official Google Voice for the iPhone is here. And it’s wonderful. Yes, it was even worth that insane wait. As you’re probably well aware, this app has had quite the contentious history. Google originally submitted it to the App Store about a year and a half ago. But 16 months ago, Apple decided they weren’t going to accept it. Not only that, other third-party apps with Google Voice functionality were pulled from the App Store as well. While Apple and Google were both silent on the issue at first, Read More

It looks just as good as you'd expect -- you can sign into the service from anywhere, access your voicemail or even send text messages or Google Voice calls, and get push notifications when you've got a new message incoming. Obviously, you'll need a Google Voice account to use the app, but those are free and easy enough to set up. The app is only available in the United States, according to its description, so those of you outside the country are out of luck (for now). It's also probably not compatible with the iPad -- the listing only says it's available for the iPhone so far. Our own Mike Rose & TJ Luoma [TJ comments below that he objects to the iPhone-only restriction on the app, as he would like to use it to send and receive SMS on the iPad or iPod touch] are jumping for joy on this Read More
