| 06/01/2011 PAC-MAN is the free Android app from the Amazon App Store today. Normally it costs $.99 so save yourself a buck and get a fun version of the classic arcade game. We downloaded the game and were happy to find that it is the classic game and not some ridiculous updated version that steals away the pure nature of the old game. You will enjoy it even more if you go get it today. The controls are a little hard to get used to, especially if you are mentally hard-wired to play this game with that old-fashioned ball-topped joystick from the arcade back in the eighties like I am. I found that going into the game options and changing the control from the touch screen Pac Pad option to the Flick option made the game much more satisfying to play. Also, remember the tip the game gives you to anticipate your turns by flicking just before you get to the next turn you want your Pacman to take. Once I changed that option I went from hardly being able to get to a power pellet to gobbling up some blue ghost butts and clearing the screen right away. Unfortunately the learning curve meant waking my wife up to the sound of my poor little Pacman being gobbled up. If you are not a PAC-MAN fan and don’t mind dropping a buck, we noticed that another great game is in the top ten of paid Amazon Apps. Fruit Ninja is a fun addictive game where you slice fruit with your big ninja sword avoiding the bombs and racking up points. Check it out as a good alternative that doesn’t cost much. Be sure to check back here for previews of the free Amazon App Store app. When we see one that is really worth the Read More
| 05/25/2011 | The easiest way to share my favorite Android apps, for the HTC ThunderBolt as well as the other devices I review, is to show you my homescreens. Like the iPhone, Android phones allow you to place shortcuts to your favorite apps on your various homescreens. Unlike the iPhone, you can also include widgets that give you fast access to information without opening apps. Above you’ll see five of the seven screens I use daily on my ThunderBolt. These are my favorite Android apps and while there will be a few additions and removals over time, these apps have earned a spot on my home screen. On the main screen of the HTC ThunderBolt you will see my most used apps and widgets. First off you’ll notice the HTC Sense Weather and Clock Widget. This tells me the time, weather and date. I like this widget because I can tap on the clock to go to my alarms and clock functions or on the weather for a five day forecast. - This free app and service allows me to keep track of multiple to do items with specific projects and an easy to organize setup. The to do items sync to the web and to apps for the iPad as well as dedicated apps for Mac and PC. After trying numerous to do apps for Android, Wunderlist is my favorite. - We use Yammer to keep our remote team in touch without relying on email. It is like Twitter for your team and has cut down on wasted time and extraneous email. The app is far from perfect, but the service rocks. Gmail - I could probably rely on the notifications, but I often process email while on my phone so I keep the app handy on the home screen. This Read More
| 05/11/2011 | Today, Twitter announced that it has started rolling out a new web app for mobile devices – both Android and iPhone – that can be found when going to Twitter.com in your favorite mobile browser. Twitter believes that the web app will provide a consistent experience for mobile Twitter users especially for those that don’t use or don’t have access to the official Twitter application. The app is quick and it will let you delve into your timeline, switch between tabs and even write tweets. It’ll support touch gestures and has been optimized for larger screen displays which means it won’t look funky on a phone with a huge screen like the Samsung Infuse 4G. Essentially, it acts and looks exactly like the official Twitter application only it’s accessible in the browser. If you head to Twitter.com right now on your Android device or iPhone, you likely won’t see the web app. That’s because Twitter is rolling it out to users slowly and will be doing so over the next couple of weeks.
