Grand Theft Auto 3 Review
Calendar16 Wed, 08 Feb 2012 13:37:09 UTC +00:00
Posted 02/08/2012 at 5:37am | by Andrew Hayward Rockstar Games' seminal open-world crime game arrives on the iPhone and iPad in this touch-enabled 10th anniversary re-release, which serves up the original go-anywhere, do-anything action experience for a cool five bucks. And you'll get your money's worth here, as the lengthy solo adventure takes your anti-hero through all manner of illicit activities, plus loads of side missions, and the sheer thrill of high-speed cop chases still shines through today. Whether on-foot or behind the wheel, there's plenty to do throughout Liberty City, and quite a bit of it amuses and entertains in equal does. Plus, all of the amazing radio stations from the original console release remain intact! While not as glossy as some newer iOS releases, Grand Theft Auto 3's open sandbox of mischief is welcoming on both devices, though the mass array of virtual buttons can be a bit overwhelming, Read More

The 50 Best iOS Games of 2011: #50-1

In case you've been busy spending the holidays with friends and family, or just cross-country skiing to the North Pole, here's our recap of last week's epic, five-part series on the 50 best iOS games of 2011. How many do you own? #50: Temple Run In 2011, independent developers Imangi Studios had their biggest hit yet: The endless running game Temple Run. A cross between Canabalt and Raiders of the Lost Ark, in Temple Run you have to make split-second decisions and quick button presses to try to survive. The combinations of simple swipes and tilt controls, plus Temple Run's freemium pricing and stylish 3D graphics, made it one of the year's best high-score survival games. Our Bottom Line: Now is your chance to be Indiana Jones. #49: Tapper World Tour After nearly 30 years, the Tapper license awoke from a drunken stupor to revel in the App Store. Tapper World Read More

posted by Marcus Nguyen on Monday, January 2, 2012 at 2:50 pm.   10 Years ago, Rockstar took Grand Theft Auto in a direction that would change the entire series forever; not only that, for the better as well. A decade after they incorporated 3-dimensions into GTA, Rockstar comes back and reintroduces this well-known classic to the iOS crowd by releasing it for the iPad, iPod, and iPhone. Nothing is cut out as they go on to reproduce the fun things I did as a kid, but with this exact reproduction, it shows us how far we’ve come, and how our demands for graphics have improved.  Read on for the full review: GTA3 for iOS is an exact port of the popular game that released for the PS2 over a decade ago. Daily iPad App: Grand Theft Auto 3
Calendar16 Wed, 21 Dec 2011 04:45:00 UTC +00:00
I'm not quite willing to call Grand Theft Auto 3 old school -- I spent so much time on the original top-down versions of the series that those are still more retro to me than the fully 3D graphics and living, open-world city that GTA3 made famous on the consoles (a tradition that continues right up into Saints Row: The Third, which I recently played on my Xbox, and next year's Grand Theft Auto 5). But it's been ten years since we first saw the streets of Liberty City from the ground up, and Rockstar Games has now brought this classic to iOS as a universal version. And especially on my iPad 2, I'm willing to call it the best console port I've ever seen. The graphics look and run terrific, and the virtual controls, while still a little creaky, actually work really great despite all of the various things you Read More

Review: Grand Theft Auto III 10th Anniversary for iOS
Calendar16 Sat, 17 Dec 2011 00:37:02 UTC +00:00
In October of 2001, Rockstar Games dropped a bomb on the gaming world. That bomb was called Grand Theft Auto III. In just one release, Rockstar shifted their flagship 2D series into a 3D world, introduced an enormous chunk of the population to the concept of massive sandbox games, and stirred up the first of many controversies that the company has since become known for. Just over 10 years later, GTA3 is back — but now it’s mobile. As of yesterday, it’s available for iOS and Android. Same game, same grit, same campy over-the-top action… but in your pocket. So, how has the game held up? How well did it make the jump from controller to touchscreen? Is it worth your $5? Lets go ahead and answer those immediately: Surprisingly well, moderately okay, and probably. For a game that’s probably older than the TV sitting in your living room, Grand Theft Read More

‘Grand Theft Auto III’ Now Available on iOS App Store
Calendar16 Thu, 15 Dec 2011 06:15:07 UTC +00:00
As we had previously noted would be happening today, Grand Theft Auto III has made it’s way on to the App Store. This game, which was original released in 2001, and revolutionized gaming, is now a universal application, meaning, it will work on both the iPhone and iPad. In fact, despite being promoted as one of the first applications to take advantage of the extra hardware heft found in the iPhone 4S and iPad 2, this game will operate just fine on the original iPad, iPhone 4, and 4th generation iPod touch. I have purchased the game and I am throughly looking forward to seeing how it plays on an iOS device. Besides, it blows my mind what these portable devices can do these days. You can pick up a copy for $4.99. Read More
'Grand Theft Auto III' Hits the App Store

Grand Theft Auto III [$4.99] hit the App Store mere moments ago, and after getting the game downloaded and installed on our iPads, we'll have a full review first thing tomorrow morning. Initial impressions are remarkably positive, although at this writing we've only played it so far on our collective iPad 2's. But, it's Grand Theft Auto III on iOS devices. The controls are about what you'd expect, virtual buttons everywhere, but they seem entirely workable once you get your head wrapped around where everything is. Get your free copy Arcade Solitaire 2 has all new retina graphics, unlockable backgrounds, decks and power-ups you’re sure to be drooling over. Rockstar's classic sandbox game, Grand Theft Auto III, is now available on international App Stores in New Zealand and Australia. As the day rolls across timezones, it should be available in Europe and the US later today. Rockstar promised to launch the game on December 15 for both iOS and Android, and it's kept its word. Grand Theft Auto III, the game that brought the whole sandbox experience into the forefront of gaming and arguably did a lot to make games more "adult-oriented," is available as a universal game for iPad/iPhone/iPod touch for just US$4.99. The controls for the game will be fully touch-based, so it will be intriguing to see how well (or how poorly) the full experience of Grand Theft Auto III translates to the smaller touchscreens of Apple's portable devices. I'm sure at least one member of the TUAW team will be happy to give this game a Read More

FINALLY!

Nothing beats a full out 3d gta on iOS. Apple just needs to make an official iOS game controller and it'd be over. Either that, or some very wise touch gestures for control would rock. Either way, this is exciting. Just to think, by the time we get to the iPad 4, it could be powerful enough for San Andreas without having any hickups.
That's great game
