Roundup of Kickstarter Apple-related projects for 6/22
Calendar16 Thu, 23 Jun 2011 21:30:00 UTC +00:00
For many tech startups, Kickstarter is a great way to raise funding and get off the ground. Each week, TUAW takes a close look at recent Apple-related Kickstarter projects for those of you interested in supporting some entrepreneurs who are eager to build the next big thing. Send us information about your Kickstarter project by using the tips and feedback link at the top of this page, and include the word "Kickstarter" in the subject line. Of the many Kickstarter projects that I saw over the last few weeks, none was as elegant as the Infinite Loop Tablet and Smartphone Stand. Not only is the project a play on the location of Apple Headquarters (for now at least) at 1 Infinite Loop in Cupertino, CA, but it's a beautiful idea. The Infinite Loop comes in both MiniLoop (for smartphones) and InfiniteLoop (for tablets and Kindles) sizes, uses suction cups or clips Read More

Guitar Hero for iPhone gets three new song packs
Calendar16 Fri, 13 Aug 2010 14:59:31 UTC +00:00
If you’ve finished all of the Vampire Weekend and Rolling Stones tracks on Guitar Hero for iPhone ($2.99 – review here), Activision has just released a few more $1.99 song packs to sink your fingers into: I’m sure I’ll get some flak from all the incredibly mighty and macho men that read JAiB, but I do wish that they had included a few more Coldplay songs. But don’t worry, though: I’ll listen to some Rammstein to make up for it. Read More

Disney kauft ‘Tap-Tap’-Tapulous
Calendar16 Fri, 02 Jul 2010 09:53:09 UTC +00:00
Guitar Hero
Calendar16 Fri, 18 Jun 2010 23:20:42 UTC +00:00
Guitar Hero revolutionized the way we play video games by introducing a main gameplay element that really hadn’t be utilized to the fullest, music. The game showed that even those who weren’t “gamers” could enjoy a console by plugging in and jamming to some tunes. Over the years we have seen many iterations of this game, but never has there been anything like this. Well, actually, there has been plenty of games like Guitar Hero for the iPhone but nothing to the level of detail and care as this game. The game takes the central components of a Guitar Hero game (character customization, solid gameplay, excellent songs and artists) and jams it all into one beautifully made game. Perhaps the most unique feature to hit the game is the introduction of slides, strums, and the whammy bar. With these elements, the game just feels awesome and becomes just as challenging as Read More
Guitar Hero for iPhone updated to 0.9.0
Calendar16 Mon, 14 Jun 2010 17:05:39 UTC +00:00
When I first read these Guitar Hero (review) update notes I thought that they meant that in-app SMS responses were now possible — but all they mean is that the in-game news delivery system is now just a bit better. I can’t tell you what has changed, though, since I only have one message from Activision encouraging me to buy more songs and give them more money. I need more to work with here, Activision. Guitar Hero for iPhone – app review
Calendar16 Sat, 12 Jun 2010 00:23:58 UTC +00:00
By Leanna Lofte, Friday, Jun 11, 2010 | During the WWDC 2010 keynote, Activision announced and released Guitar Hero on the iPhone. This game is well made and provides a lot of enjoyment for players as they strum, tap, slide and whammy to the beat of popular rock songs. The gameplay of Guitar Hero is fun, unique and includes much more than tapping notes. An arrow pointing left or right indicates that you need to tap the note where the arrow begins and slide your finger to where the arrow ends. This action needs to happen fairly quickly. If two or more notes are connected by lines, then you must tap the first note and slide your finger to the next notes. Your finger needs to reach each note connected in the line at the appropriate time that corresponds to the beat of the song. A vertical line means that you Read More
Editor-in-Chief, iLounge Published: Thursday, June 10, 2010 Category: iPod, iPhone, and iPad Gems: Apps, Games + More Welcome to this week’s edition of iPhone + iPad Gems! Today, we look at six recent releases that vary from iPad-only to iPhone, iPod, and iPad compatible, including three edutainment apps for kids and three games. With the exception of one of the titles, either the app or the developer will be familiar to readers of past Gems columns, and the genres are all ones we’ve explored at least a little in earlier releases. Our top pick of the bunch is Drawing Pad. Read on for all the details. Edutainment: Drawing Pad + Poke Me!/Poke Me! HD If there’s anything to criticize in Darren Murtha Design’s iPad art application for kids—and there’s not much, really—it’s that Drawing Pad ($2) doesn’t automatically save the last piece of art created with its tools, starting every fresh Read More

Farmville, the ridiculously popular Facebook game, is coming to the iPhone (sans Flash, of course). It’ll hit the end of June and feature complete Facebook farm integration, so it looks like you won’t even have to re-plant any of your craps. I still prefer Plants vs Zombies, though Guitar Hero was also announced, but footage and descriptions are still a little sparse. Bands like Queen and Rise Against are in the app and you can also strum aside from engaging in the usual tapping mechanics. The big surprise is that the app is actually out *now* in the App Store, right here. A warning to those who search for it within iTunes: you’ll have to scroll down a bit. The app actually shows up as the 7th or 8th search result… Read More
Guitar Hero for iPhone now available in the App Store
Calendar16 Tue, 08 Jun 2010 10:13:16 UTC +00:00
As we mentioned yesterday, Guitar Hero was announced for the iPhone. Well, in a little bit of good news — the app is now available in the App Store and selling at the expected price of $2.99. The app is being billed as; “Guitar Hero for the iPhone and iPod touch is the most authentic guitar and bass experience on the go!” In terms of available music, expect to find six tracks including We Are The Champions from Queen, Savior from Rise Against, Paint It Black from The Rolling Stones, Seven Nation Army from The White Stripes, Say It Ain’t So from Weezer and Vampire Weekend from Cousins. Rock out with these features anytime, anywhere: All in all, this looks to be a pretty decent app, though I wish they released it as a universal app with iPad support. Read More

One of the best looking games on the app store, and by far the best guitar experience. The additional gameplay features make it way more fun than your average tap the gem type game.

kungfugrip2 5.0 stars Version: 0.1.0
This game is incredibly fun and addictive. I didn't think it would be as fun without a plastic guitar in my hands, but the tapping/strumming on the screen is really responsive and fun, and there are lots of neat mechanics that make it challenging and different than other music 'tap' games. Beautiful graphics too! Highly recommended download!!
Awesome

Finally We get Guitar Hero on the iphone. I was waiting for this. I got it as soon as i heard it was available. I recommend this game to everyone. I like it better than Rock Band and Tap Tap.
> RockBand
iBeej 5.0 stars Version: 0.1.0
I love these games and have everything in this genre. Rock Band being a favorite I had doubts about Guitar Hero but after playing this beast, i would say it bests Rock Band. The customization is a great feature. Lots of unlocks and even 3D avatar activity while playing! No idea why Rock Band left that one behind. I like the songs and the gameplay is built for tapping with plenty of additions to make it far more interesting than all the other tap games. You have whammy, sliders, star power, and it's all very fluid and sync'd properly, which Rock Band had and still has some issues with. The game is extremely polished. Killer rocking sounds in the menus and a great stats + achievements system. Overall I have enjoyed playing Guitar Hero more than Tap Tap and Rock Band. My only complaints are of course more songs, and more instruments. I would like to see expert mode even more difficult. And Drums and Vocals would really stick it to Rock Band. Maybe a few more clothes and items to unlock. But wow this is off to a great start and will undoubtedly be a huge success and staple game for the iPhone going forward. And for 2.99 you can't go wrong. Rockin deal for this game. Go buy it, you won't be dissapointed.
This game..
Vegohead 5.0 stars Version: 0.1.0

Really great music rhythm game
MR Huge Fan 5.0 stars Version: 0.1.0
Wow, I'm really amazed at the craftsmanship in this game. They really sweated the details. The avatar creator is cool, as are the graphics, and visuals. The strumming mechanic, slide gems, and simple tapping is well crafted. Love the guitar xp, and leveling up. Can't wait to try the challenges with my friends. Definitely worth the price, and worth trying for any music rhythm fan!
Awesome port from the console to the iPhone
wordonez 5.0 stars Version: 0.1.0

Vicarious Visions really outdid themselves with this one!
Awesome!
hahanoob 5.0 stars Version: 0.1.0
I'm surprised at how well the game translates to the touch screen. Probably the most polished game I've seen so far on iPhone.
Awesome App
Uturnaroun 5.0 stars Version: 0.1.0
I'm impressed. I own a lot of iPhone music games including Rock band and quite a few Tap Taps. Guitar Hero beats them all. Overall, this game takes the idea of tapping the dots to the next level. In GH, you'll also be asked to strum the guitar or connect the dots. The gameplay style is well executed. In comparison to Rock Band, I have to say that GH wins. RB used to be my favorite, but GH is a better experience. The quality of everything is just so much more high in GH. The only downside is that RB has more insruments, but that's not a big loss to mee. All four of RB's instruments are just "tap the dots" style. This is well worth the $3. I highly recommend it!
This is awsome

Great game just tried pretty chalanging and good songs and great price soooo get it now!
Total RIP OFF
App Man022 1.0 stars Version: 2.0.0
This game is a total rip off!!! You pay $2.99 for the app, which compared to some apps is pretty expensive, and then you only get 6 songs to play!!! After you are tired of those songs you have to pay $1.99 to get predetermined 3 song bundles!!! It's totally not worth the money
Worked ... for a day
William J. Foster 1.0 stars Version: 2.0.0
Payed a lot for a few songs.Went online for about an hour. Then exited the game. Now I can not reconnect. What did I pay you so much for?
Good
JoeDidley 3.0 stars Version: 2.0.0
Fun game but add more song i dont want to pay three bucks for one good song and four bad
Not feelin' it..
T.A.R. TheAppReview 2.0 stars Version: 2.0.0
It's not a bad app, but you only get six mediocre songs and if you want more you got to pay 3 more dollars for a couple songs, I don't suggest buying until more free songs come, and possibly a career mode too? Right now your basically just playing quickplay. For now if your looking for an app like this get Tap Tap.
Ugh
