Read More
If your iPhone or iPad's memory still isn't full after you gorged on the various Cyber Monday and Thanksgiving deals, know this: most of the celebratory sales are still active on the App Store. In fact, we've discovered a couple more that we couldn't fit in before the holiday break. That's what this post is all about -- the leftovers. For example, Telltale Games has lowered its games' prices 55-80 percent from the usual. The savings began on November 23, but will continue until tomorrow, November 30. Arghata Studio also bashed the prices of its 1112 series in honor of our Turkey Day, and those sales are still continuing, too, well into this week. Here's a short list of some notables: Odds And Ends Agharta Studios Telltale Games Cool deals, right? As a side-note, if you feel like you've been left out of the initial extravaganza, App Shopper [Free] remains an Read More
Price Drop: New Phone, New Apps!

Posted 10/14/2011 at 5:00pm | by Susie Ochs It's my last Friday before maternity leave. So with visions of onesies dancing in my head, I present to you these awesome apps that are at newly lowered prices -- many in honor of the just-born iPhone 4S. Now you'll spend less money in the App Store, and have more money for diapers. (Yes, I realize I'm the one buying the diapers, not you. But bear with me here. I'm in no condition to argue...) Happy shopping! Telltale has finished its latest puzzle game series, the dark comedy Hector: Badge of Carnage, and to help you catch up, all three episodes are just $2.99 on either iPhone or iPad through October 24. Hector is a foul-mouthed British police detective who doesn't like wearing pants. And the series' sharp writing, clever puzzles, and edgy art style are classic Telltale. So check out Episode 1: Read More
Read More
Yesterday, Telltale Games held an event in San Francisco where they announced a slew of new titles for this coming year. The main focus of this event was to offer hands-on time with the console versions of their upcoming Jurassic Park game (which looks fabulous, by the way), so unfortunately there wasn’t anything actually running on iOS devices that isn’t available already in the App Store. Still, there were some pretty exciting games announced, and as we march closer to events like Comic-Con and E3 we’ll start to see more tangible bit from these games. Monkey Island Tales 2-5 - Back in December, Telltale launched Monkey Island Tales 1 HD [$6.99], the first episode in their Tales of Monkey Island series reboot. Like its PC, Mac, and console counterparts, the iPad version of Tales was well received by customers and critics alike. We awarded the game 4.5 stars in our review, Read More
By Rob LeFebvre on February 18th, 2011 A bevvy of beautiful game releases, coming soon (or here now), from Telltale Games. That headline could have gotten quite a bit longer. Don’t say we didn’t warn you! The fine, upstanding folks at TellTale Games, purveyors of such fine games as Sam & Max, Monkey Island, Wallace and Gromit, and Puzzle Agent, have decided that they just don’t have enough to keep them busy. They announced a metric ton-load of games coming our way soon, on iOS and other gaming consoles you may or may not own. First up, Back to the Future – it’s out now for the iPad, it’s $7, and it’s a BRAND NEW storyline, episodic style. TellTale worked with the actual writer of the movies to come up with this all new adventure, then created a video game around it. The Mac/PC version is up to Episode 2, and Read More

Apple Features "The Best Games You've Never Played"
Calendar16 Fri, 25 Jun 2010 13:57:08 UTC +00:00
If our App Store Gaming Guide that we posted yesterday wasn't a big enough list of awesome games worth checking out on your new iPhone 4, it would appear Apple has thrown their own hat in to the game listing ring with their The Best Games You've Never Played list. 50 games are included in said list, and while they cover quite a bit of games that we hit in ours, there are quite a few games we left out. Here are just a handful of the games from the Apple list that we think are worth checking out that we haven't already mentioned in either the recent App Store gaming guide or our 2009 buyer's guide: Critter Crunch - This game was released all the way back in 2008, and I only discovered it recently as it's made by some of the same guys behind Sword & Sworcery. Last week at WWDC we ran in to Kevin Beimers, the writer, programmer, and game action director for Straandlooper, creators of Hector: Badge of Carnage [$3.99]. Hector is an episodic point and click adventure game where you play the role of a disgruntled police officer in the town of Clappers Wreake. Like similar games, advancing the plot involves solving puzzles using items found in the game world either by themselves or combined in interesting ways with other items. There are also dialog trees to work through with the various citizens of Clappers Wreake and your conversation skills also become a large part in accomplishing the goals set out in front of you. We really enjoyed the game in our review, and after hearing the story behind Hector, I can't help but enjoy the game even more. Before the filthy world of Hector was even imagined, the guys behind the game actually Read More
Sadly, the adventure game genre on the App Store is far from being heavily populated. In fact each and every release, be it even a sub-par one, is a welcome addition. Most of them are ports of PC titles with a few rare but superb exceptions – 1112 episode 01, 1112 episode 02 (TMA Review), 1112 episode 02 HD and Fallen EP-1 (TMA Review). And out of the blue a new underdog just popped onto the scene: HECTOR: Badge of Carnage Ep1. In the best traditions of Sam & Max, developers Straandlooper send Detective Inspector Hector  - their last and only line of defence against crime – to stop the sniper terrorizing downtown. HECTOR: Badge of Carnage Ep1 is so far back to the golden age of classic adventure games, that it’s almost impossible to believe it has been made in 2010. When an unknown marksman takes hostages in the centre of Read More
10 New App Store Games To Watch [May 31 - June 6]

Once again the week started out slow, but eventually the interesting titles started filtering in.  Of course the biggest news was the release and subsequent pulling of Prince Of Persia: Warrior Within due to a bug in the menu system.  Also of note was the release of Call Of Duty: World At War: Zombies II, which if you ask me needs a shorter title.  If you like a bit of classics merged with modern horror there’s Pride And Prejudice And Zombies, and adventure game buffs actually got an iPhone only and original release (in other words, not a port) in the form of Hector: Badge Of Carnage. Prince Of Persia: Warrior Within – What can I say?  With the release of Sands Of Time in the theatre, what better opportunity to release a Prince Of Persia game for the iPhone, even if it has nothing to do with the movie?  The Read More
Irish animation studio Straandlooper is really pushing the suggestive limits of the App Store with the first installment of their episodic adult adventure game, Hector: Badge of Carnage [$3.99]. This point and click adventure game (or, more accurately, point and tap I suppose) puts players in charge of Hector, a police officer from the town of Clappers Wreake. The game opens with a fantastically drawn and voiced over animated cut scene which really sets the bar for the rest of the game. In the first episode, Hector is called in to do some hostage negotiation at a building being guarded by a sniper who has been picking off any policemen who enter his line of sight. Progressing through the game, like any similar adventure game, involves analyzing your environment, picking up items, and combining or using them in creative ways to overcome obstacles. For instance, getting out of the room you Read More
