That’s right, it’s that time of the week once again for another brand new episode of the excellent AppSlappy Podcast. The upcoming  June 7th WWDC event and Apple’s role in the Foxconn factory suicides are also discussed. Other app reviews/coverage include: You can download this week’s episode of AppSlappy directly and/or subscribe via iTunes. If you haven’t checked out the podcast yet, we highly recommend you tune into Scott and Eric’s show. I think I'll use this every day
Worleygirl 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
I've always loved Mark Bittman for sharing recipes that are trul simple, fast and delicious. This app just makes it even easier because it's searchable and can go with me from kitchen to grocery store. I'm pretty sure I'll use this app every day.
Perfection in an app!
anibee 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
Finally, the app we've all been waiting for! I've been a fan of Mark Bitman since day 1, but lugging his huge cookbook around can be tedious, to say the least! This app is a perfect solution; easy to use interface, including special features like kitchen timers(!), as well as Bitman's phenomenal recipe/tip collection... all at the tip of your fingers! This has already become an iPhone staple, and for a great price!
Almost great
florgen 4.0 stars Version: 1.1.2
Please add the ability to add one's own notes to recipes! I will often tweak a recipe to suit my own tastes, adding this feature will make this a great app!
Great reference tool; farmers market/grocery store helper...
Giovannaz 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
Whether I'm at the grocery store or farmers market, having the 'How to Cook Everything' app is quite handy. I can easily search for recipes using a particular ingredient. When I find myself wandering grocery store aisles, wondering what to make for dinner, browsing 'Bittman's Picks' helps. It includes recipe inspirations, from '22 Whole-Meal Soups' to '11 Meat Dishes to Serve on Greens'. When planning ahead, each recipe's built-in shopping list neatly organizes whatever I need by store section, streamlining grocery shopping (always appreciated!). The app is also useful at home. For browsing, I will use the book still in most instances. But the app is a great complement. It shows one step at a time, and includes timers--and not just one. If you're supposed to turn something every 10 minutes, cooking it 30 minutes in all, there is a timer for tracking the turning as well as one for the 30 minute complete cooking. Love it.
Great food, great support.
miami_biz 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.2
I'm a 30 something year old guy. I've barely cooked my entire life. Thanks to this app, I was able to blow my wife away with some simple fried rice. Also, support was great even though there wasn't a support issue...just my silly self not clicking correctly. Thanks for a great cooking app. Now I don't need to order MSG ridden crappy Chinese food anymore! :)
Everything we need
RhodeIslandReds 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
We pretty much live by How to Cook Everything. It's our everyday cookbook as well as our first stop for reference on ingredients and cooking techniques. It's so great to be able to take it all to the grocery store in this tidy little app. It's easy to use, has lots of helpful tips, and the search is awesome—so much better than looking in the index of the book. We hope to see our other fave in the future, How to Cook Everything Vegetarian!
I'd have paid $20!
Emil H 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
I was hoping Mark's books would be released in ebook form but this is so much better, and at this price it's truly a steal. Grab it before the price goes up!
Best cooking app ever!
Zener 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.2
Newest update fixed search function. Thanks for the quick response! .... The best cooking app I've seen! (I have about 7 cooking apps on my iPod.) I had never heard of Mark Bittman before, buy now I'm a huge fan :) Worth the 2 bucks for the salad dressing recipes alone! I will definitely buy the vegetarian one when it comes out. One suggestion...like others have mentioned it would be very useful to be able to email whole recipe to myself. I'd like to print out and follow so I don't get a mess of food on my iPod.
There's no way to print
sparnaay 2.0 stars Version: 1.1.2
Mark Bittman is great, but I don't use this app because there's no way to print the recipes or ingredient lists. Do you really want to touch your iPhone or iPad while you've got raw chicken on your hands? Isn't it a bad idea to put an expensive piece of electronic equipment on your kitchen counter where it would be really easy to get it wet? Every other cookbook app I have lets you print recipes. Don't buy this until they add printing.
Love it!
Shana Garrett 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.2
I cook everyday and this app is fabulous for quick everyday food that provides variety and nutrition.
great for covering ALL the basics
allsmilea 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.2
the best cooking app for both the newbie and the experienced-stuck-in-a-rut cooks. this app not only tells you what to do with every common food item, it tells you how to do it and then how to do it a bit better. I've stopped wasting a lot of food since purchasing this app.
A Must Have
Yuffie23 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.2
Thanks to this app, I'ved managed to make many a memorable meal filled with restaurant quality food that was extemely easy to make and directions in plain English. The app functions are also very convenient such as the grocery list. Get this if you enjoy cooking.
It even does grocery lists.
Fundomushi 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
This application is a steal.
Easiest 5-star rating I've ever given
Hi Everybody!! 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
This is incredible. I've always been a bit bothered by the other recipe apps for one reason or another but never could figure out quite how I'd fix them. This app does it. It's a joy to use, everything I need is available right there, and the cross-referencing is almost unbelievable, how it has some Spidey-sense about what I'm going to search for next and instead just puts a link for me to tap. I'm deeply impressed with everything about this app.
Worth the price of an iPhone!
craigjordan 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
Authoritative, straightforward, and concise, "How to Cook Everything: Revised" by far my favorite and most tattered cookbook. Its iPhone implementation extends its utility by allowing searches for ingredients, instantly building shopping lists, allowing searches to be limited to vegetarian or quick recipes, and having timers built into recipes. The best part is that it's stored in your phone, so you don't have to worry about being connected to a network. I went into a supermarket today with no idea what to buy, and I used it to figure out if a papaya was ripe, obtain a recipe for asparagus, and keep a list of the non-produce items I needed to build a salad. It was refreshing to get all this information in seconds, and not have to sift through dozens of redundant recipes on culinary websites.
Perfect
Tribert 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
I have several recipe apps on my phone, but this one is exactly what I want my go-to to be. Practical info and well organized makes the plethera of info accessible. I love the simplicity of the recipes and classic Mark Bittman.
Essential for on the go cooks!
Obaketenshi 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
This is one of the best recipe compilations I have ever downloaded. The recipes are all available online and off and the selection is extensive. Love the integration of timers into the instructions so forgetful people like me don't burn food! Very much worth the money!
Nice
Ozpilot 4.0 stars Version: 1.0.2
Just needs the ability to add my own notes to my favourite receipes.
Wow.
Sic413awesome 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.2
I bought this app thinking that there would just be a few simple recipes that I could try to cook for dinner one night. Boy, was I wrong. My grandparents were blown away by the garlic shrimp and tomatos. The butterscotch brownies are sooo addictive!! I have yet to try many other awesome looking recipes. If cooking is your passion, get this app immediatly, before the price gets any higher!!
Fantastic App
Barbec105 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.1
Easy to use and informative.
Awesome kitchen companion!
agentokie 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.1
I turn to Mark Bittman several times a week -- through his multiple cookbooks -- and this is the perfect app for the kitchen and grocery store. To have the entire "How to Cook Everything" cookbook in your pocket is priceless.
Great resource
Lkritchey 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.2
This app is a great resource - not only for recipes but also for technique - especially for learning the basics. I strongly recommend this - well worth the price!
Love it
spagirljen 5.0 stars Version: 1.1.2
I love the book version of this as well and it's so handy to have it with me on the go. I find myself using it to look up recipes if I'm at the store and feeling inspired by something so that I can be sure to get what I need to make a great meal. The timers are a handy feature too. Many nights instead of having to hold open the huge book I can just pull up what I'm making on the phone and get to work. Everything I have tried has been great. The directions are simple and the Bittman's picks feature is fun and handy.
Bugs
Skhilled 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.2
Just got the update today for the iPod Touch, 5.13.2010. On the page "12 Sauces For Fried Chicken" the links for "ketchup" and "basic barbeque sauce" have curly brackets around them { } while everything else does not. It looks like this: 11. {Ketchup 12. {Basic Barbeque Sauce}{Barbeque sauce} This is a great app though and I love it. Just wanted to point that out. If I find any more I'll add them. :)
Good deal
cbesta11 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.1
The organization and usefulness of the app get this five stars. The handy timers, the grocery list, and then the large amount of content makes this a steal. I can't see anything wrong with it so far
Incredible bargain!
Larry78 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.2
The rcipes are great and the price is amazing...less than a quarter of what you'd pay in a bookstore AND it takes up no space to speak of, will never get soiled, and the binding will never come apart. What more coul;d you want from a cookbook?!
Not Just an App, but an Achievement
unclehaircut 5.0 stars Version: 1.1.1
This is _exactly_ the kind of app that I'd envisioned when I dreamed about the potential that the iPhone afforded to usher static books along the path to their natural, digital evolution. Simply written, instructive and beautifully designed, this isn't simply a port of an existing cookbook, it's a multimedia experience reimagined by folks who fundamentally understand the benefits of the platform. I'm in it and digging around even when I'm not in the kitchen. I couldn't possibly recommend it more. It's an absolute steal.
445 cooking
jshrestha 5.0 stars Version: 1.2
This app is great, but there is a little problem in it. you cannot e-mail the food preparetion steps for the print or sare with the friends. usually when food preparing process, hands and kitchen gets a little messy. in that case it is weird to carry the iphone and reading the directions. So the app is already a must have program, if you consider to add e-mailing option, In the next update, it would be a great great and great and let the people judge by themself. thank you
Holiday Fun -
Toffeebar 5.0 stars Version: 1.2.2
by Andrea W I love the book. I love the app. When I went to it today and saw the falling snow to herrald in new holiday menus I was delighted! Brilliant! Why do I have the book and the app? I stroll through markets now with the best tool ever. I see what's in season, what looks fresh and fabulous, and I can plan it all before I leave the store or farmersmarket. It's a musthave app!
Great recipes
Kitchen wallah 4.0 stars Version: 1.5.2
Good app, great recipe collection, easy to use. BUT I really wish it had a "Notes" feature so I could store notes about recipes I have made. Maybe next version?
Very helpful
grapeknutz2 5.0 stars Version: 1.2.2
I hesitated purchasing this app as it was a little pricey, especially when there are so many freebie, but I have found it to be truly worth it!
The "go to" cooking app
Docedward 5.0 stars Version: 1.2.2
I have no time for fuss or practice or experiment, but I love to cook. Every recipe I've used from Mark's app has been a success. Podcast is a must as well.
Fabulous
Adelita Uno 5.0 stars Version: 1.5.2
I was already familiar with the reliable recipes in this book when I bought the Kindle version. Turns out it is almost impossible to use. When I found the app I figured what the heck. I was already out several dollars and figured 5 more wouldn't matter. Well, best $5 I've ever spent for the kitchen. Searching recipes is SO easy and then easy to page back and forth. Because I use my bare hands so much when cooking I put my phone on the counter, cover with a piece if clear wrap and cook away! Obviously a great deal of practical usage thought went into this app. Thank you so very much!
this app is cookin'
anibee 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.1
The new version of Mark Bittman's How To Cook Everything app is even better than before. A more polished, but still effortlessly accessible interface, and the further established favorites list make this app more of a dream than ever before. It's a great deal too, for 1/7th of the price of Bittman's original book... and minus all the baggage of 2,000 pages and a hardback cover, QUITE the steal. I've used this app at least once a day since it came out, and I'd recommend it to anyone--from established chef, to high school student. A great way to get ideas, plan meals, and grab groceries, all on my iPhone.
Love it!!!
Elizabrown 5.0 stars Version: 1.6.1
Use it all the time.
Rev LJS
LarryJsr 5.0 stars Version: 1.6.1
Excellent
Worthless
Herickson 1.0 stars Version: 1.6.1
So I paid $5 for this app and it was a waste of money because the developers wouldn't support an email option (I'm not gonna cook in the kitchen off my phone). Now they update with an email option so I can print a recipe HOWEVER YOU CAN ONLY EMAIL 3 TIMES IN A MONTH!!! Really you want people to pay for this and make it as limiting as possible to use? Plenty of worthwhile cooking apps out there, many of them free, where the developers don't try to shackle how you use the app. I'm tired of these crappy antics and think people should know about this before paying for something they can't really use!
Recently started cooking
The "I don't cook" girl 4.0 stars Version: 1.6.1
This is a very helpful app. At first, I thought it was limited in recipes, but I use it almost every time I cook. I just recently started cooking. Previously, "I didn't know how" to cook. But this app is easy to follow and the food turns out good! I like the step-by-step recipes with timers and the shopping features. I only wish there was some nutritional info.
One suggestion, however: Voice control
cmfotr 5.0 stars Version: 1.6.1
Brilliant conversion of brilliant book. Is it possible to add voice control with ability of app to "read aloud" and re-read the steps of preparation?
Incredible app
DAVID SEXTON 5.0 stars Version: 1.6.2
Great for planning dinner on the go. I use it all the time to find recipes on the train home. Putting a grocery list together is so easy too!
Something for everyone!
Michelle Y. 5.0 stars Version: 1.6.2
Love this app. Not only does it provide great recipes but also has suggested variations of each recipe. So if you don't like something or want to be more creative it's all right at your finger tips.
Well organized and complete.
Anibaliv 5.0 stars Version: 1.6.2
Very easy to understand. Keep the good work!
Best cooking app
Kmarts 5.0 stars Version: 1.6.2
I recently moved to another country and had to leave all my cookbooks behind. This app has been a lifesaver. With all the recipes from Bittman's heavy tome I have great recipes at my fingertips. I have yet to come across a Mark Bittman recipe I have not liked. The app has great features and is easy to use. Wish it was large for my iPad but I'm not complaining!
Superb app
Gerald Maxwell 5.0 stars Version: 1.6.2

DJsGrl 5.0 stars Version: 1.6.2
This app is one of the best I've purchased. I love Mark Bittman's simple style of cooking and I love how this app makes meal planning simple too! Start with the Overnight Waffle recipe. Our family has loved it for years. Make a bunch and put them in the freezer. They make great toaster waffles!
Great interface, but needs update to iPad size!
Macuser07 4.0 stars Version: 1.6.2
I didn't hesitate buying this app knowing it was by Mark Bittman. Got it pre-iPad, but now, it should be updated to higher res retina display for the iPad and save my eyes from reading fuzzy text meant for the iPhone. Please? Anybody listening? Mark?
Simple, Great App!
Fiveninedesign 5.0 stars Version: 1.6.2
This app had never failed me. From simple and quick weeknight ideas to gourmet all-day holiday meals, to variations on a common theme, this app has it all. Highly recommended!
