Unofficial "Look Up in 1Password" bookmarklet for iOS 5
Calendar16 Sun, 29 Jan 2012 21:00:00 UTC +00:00
1Password is one of my most-used iOS apps, since I need it to log in to any site which requires a password. Since the introduction of 1Password on iOS, Agile has provided a bookmarklet which will open 1Password and then search for the current domain. That helps the fact that 1Password can't be fully integrated with Safari on iOS. Unfortunately the bookmarklet stopped working in iOS 5. According to the company's blog, Agile has discontinued the bookmarklet and won't be updating it. They are working on "something better coming up for the future." They went on to add that they want to make 1Password's own integrated browser "more usable as "a Safari replacement, or rather partial replacement." While I will reserve judgment until I see it, I have serious reservations about this plan. I have used iCab Mobile on the iPad for over a year. iCab is a superior browser to Read More
Homescreens – Oktober 2011 (iPhone + iPad)
Calendar16 Mon, 17 Oct 2011 09:09:11 UTC +00:00
Außerdem verstecken sich in Read More
Four websites that need iPad apps
Calendar16 Sat, 03 Sep 2011 13:00:00 UTC +00:00
The iPad is an amazing device for surfing the web. Its large screen and multitouch gestures make it feel like you're actually holding a web page in your hands. Web browsing on the iPad is going to get even better with the release of iOS 5. That's when Safari on iPad gains Reading List and Reader functionality and the all-important tabbed browsing. However, as good as the iPad is at handling web browsing, some websites would clearly benefit from a dedicated iPad app. When viewed on an iPad, these sites lack key features that they show off to full effect when used with desktop browsers. Other websites have a high amount of interactivity that may work on an iPad, but that interactivity doesn't translate well to a touch interface. I realize that any website could be made into an iPad app. Most websites, however, don't need them. Here at TUAW, for Read More
App Showdown: Browsers
Calendar16 Wed, 13 Jul 2011 16:25:15 UTC +00:00
Posted 07/13/2011 at 8:25am | by J Keirn-Swanson There are some pretty good reasons to stick with mobile Safari: it's the iPhone default, so links automatically route to there from other apps, it's pretty speedy, and, even though the app is simple to use, Apple's crammed a ton of functionality into that little guy -- whether in iPhone or iPad flavors. But sometimes... well, sometimes Safari leaves us a little cold, leaves us wanting something a little more full featured, something we don't have to install a bunch of bookmarklets to make work. RichTech has put together a fine app here with Atomic Web Browser, an app that looks pretty simple at first glimpse. Eight buttons, two text boxes, and the mobile world. The larger text box at top is for URLs while the smaller handles your searches, just like in Safari.  In the iPhone version, across the bottom are seven Read More
iCab Mobile (Web Browser)
Calendar16 Sun, 26 Jun 2011 15:00:23 UTC +00:00
iCab Mobile is an iPad (and iPhone) web browser app that offers options at your fingertips with settings that can be summoned up any time right there in the browser. It seems like a silly thing to say, but you can actually set your homepage to be something that you want it to be, and you can return to it by clicking a home button in the address line. Outside of an OS, pretty much everything that I need has some kind of connection to the World Wide Web, as a result a good browser is something that I just can’t do without. I tried to live with Safari, but really it comes up way short of what I would expect of a good browser. Having to go into the iPad’s options to change the settings is also ridiculous I feel, and even then it doesn’t offer much to change. iCab Read More
It’ll be interesting to see if Apple gives Safari a facelift in the upcoming iOS 5 update. It’s already rumored that several areas like voice control will receive an overhaul, but will the tiny browser see any improvements? If you’re not currently happy with Apple’s default browser, there are several alternatives in the App Store. iCab and Atomic are awesome choices, but what about Opera Mini? Even if you didn’t like the browser before, you might want to check out the latest update… I’ve tried Opera Mini as a browser replacement on my iPhone before, and let’s just say it didn’t last long. But when I started noticing several media outlets reporting the major update, I had to check it out again. The improved user interface is gorgeous and features convenient access to favorite websites and browser settings. Tapping the O launches a neat and easy to read menu. In my opinion, Read More
The developer of iCab Mobile, a feature-rich alternative to the Safari Web browser on iPad and iPhone, has been ordered by Apple to remove its ability to download and install JavaScript modules. Presumably it's not the fact that iCab can execute JavaScript that's causing Apple to apoplectically puff and splutter, but rather its ability to download modules. Both Apple and Google frown upon apps that contain market-like functionality, and someone at Apple probably thought that iCab's JavaScript modules looked like a bit too much like discrete apps. Alexander Clauss, iCab's developer, has rather a lot to say on the matter. "Maybe if I would have called the modules 'smart bookmarks' and would have made installing them much more complicated, Apple would have never asked to remove the ability to download them from the internet. The great user experience of installing modules has probably created a suspicion that these modules are more Read More
iCab Mobile for iOS is like a pro version of Safari
Calendar16 Mon, 04 Apr 2011 10:00:00 UTC +00:00
When I first used Safari on my iPhone, I was blown away by how much better it was than any other mobile browser, but since then, Apple hasn't done much with it. A recent Safari update brought significant speed increases, but there are many other limitations that finally led me to try something else, namely iCab Mobile. Is improving your web browsing experience on the iPad or iPhone/iPod touch worth $2? Before you object to paying for a web browser, let me remind you of a few Apple apps and their alternatives. On iOS, Apple gave you a Notes app, but many people prefer Simplenote or other text editors or note programs because they offer more features. If you subscribe to MobileMe, you have a 20 GB iDisk, but anyone who has tried Dropbox knows that it works much better. Apple gave you iCal, but BusyCal is a lot better. Apple Read More
HOW TO: Use Amazon Cloud Player With iOS Devices
Calendar16 Tue, 29 Mar 2011 16:55:58 UTC +00:00
Want to access Amazon’s new Cloud Player from your iOS device? We’ve found a serviceable, if hackneyed, solution. Amazon launched its Cloud Player and Cloud Drive services Tuesday, offering users a way to access their music files from a web browser anywhere. Amazon also released an official Android app for Cloud Player that lets Android fans listen to their tunes on the go. What about iOS users? Well, it would appear at first blush as if owners of the iPhone, iPod touch or iPad are out of luck — the Cloud Player website simply doesn’t want to work with Mobile Safari. After assessing the situation a bit, it’s clear that this is a limitation not born out of technical necessity (read: This isn’t because of Flash) and is either a simple oversight or an intentional decision to block iOS devices. Users who attempt to access amazon.com/cloudplayer in iOS are greeted with Read More
The best Mac and iOS apps I used in 2010
Calendar16 Tue, 28 Dec 2010 01:00:00 UTC +00:00
Following up on my article about the best Mac apps I used in 2010, here are some of the best hybrid "Mac and iOS apps" I used in 2010. This wasn't an attempt to come up with a specific number, just the results of some careful reflection. You may wonder why some apps appear on this list instead of the Mac list. For example, Dropbox has an iOS app, why not add it here? Because my primary use of Dropbox is on the Mac. Yes I use it with iOS, but it's usually through another app that is syncing back to my Mac. On the other hand, using OmniFocus for iPad (our review) led to me using OmniFocus for Mac more, so I put OmniFocus on this list. All that is to say, these are my distinctions, and you are free to disagree with them. 1) myPhoneDesktop (or MPD) is a Read More
Homescreens – Dezember 2010 (iPhone + iPad)
Calendar16 Sat, 11 Dec 2010 10:35:56 UTC +00:00
Außerdem verstecken sich innerhalb der Ordner folgende Apps*: Amazon.de (kostenlos; App Store-Link), Convertbot (1.59 €; App Store-Link), AnalyticsPro (5.49 €; App Store-Link), Delivery Status touch (3.99 €; universal; App Store-Link), Dropbox (kostenlos; universal; App Store-Link), iCabMobile (1.59 €; universal; App Store-Link), Skype (kostenlos; App Store-Link), WeatherPro (2.99 €; App Store-Link), Pastebot (2.99 €; App Store-Link), LogMeIn (23.99 €; universal; App Store-Link), OffMaps (1.59 €; universal; App Store-Link), Kik (kostenlos; App Store-Link), PayPal (kostenlos; App Store-Link), Linkie (0.79 Read More
Bild.de setzt iPad-Leser vor die Tür
Calendar16 Wed, 08 Dec 2010 06:42:12 UTC +00:00
Absurde Read More

SlideRocket bietet zwei unterschiedliche Preisstufen an. Homescreens – August 2010
Calendar16 Mon, 16 Aug 2010 11:59:02 UTC +00:00
Read More
Supercharge Your iPad Browsing with iCab
Calendar16 Thu, 20 May 2010 14:54:40 UTC +00:00
iCab Mobile is the browser for the iPad I’ve been waiting for. Using the same WebKit rendering engine as Mobile Safari, iCab brings a true “desktop” class browser to the iPad. Where Mobile Safari scales up from the iPhone, iCab Mobile has scaled down from the desktop version of iCab, one of the oldest Mac browsers still around. For additional learning on Safari for Mac, checkout Safari 101 and Mac Browsers (subscription required). The first noticeable thing about iCab is that it actually uses real tabs. The UI borrows heavily from Mobile Safari; the URL bar looks almost identical. However, underneath the URL bar is a bookmarks bar, and underneath that is the tab bar, which seems to function just like the tab bar in any desktop browser. The tab bar does two things to the interface: one, it adds what some might consider “clutter” to the window. When compared to Safari, Read More
Ditch Safari - Install a Faster Browser on Your iPhone
Calendar16 Thu, 13 May 2010 18:34:33 UTC +00:00
Posted 05/13/2010 at 10:34am | by Michelle Delio The App Store’s loaded with browsers intended to provide a speedier, richer experience—after all, Mobile Safari leaves ample room for improvement. With the exception of Opera Mini, all the competing browsers are built using the same WebKit code base (WebKit is the open-source browser engine at the heart of Safari), so any performance gains come from added features like improved tabbing, faster scrolling, image/ad blockers, and page compression. Some of these features are useful and do contribute to faster, more efficient browsing. That said, all third-party browsers running on iPhone and iPad are inherently handicapped. Since you can’t chose an alternative app as your default web browser, basic activities like opening links from other apps aren’t a matter of click and open. And given their second-class-citizen status as non-system apps, third-party browsers can’t run in the background, so there’s no behind-the-scenes rendering or Read More

Das Herzstück ‘Webbrowser’
Calendar16 Wed, 06 Jan 2010 12:14:27 UTC +00:00

Nice web browser
Cachanillo 3.0 stars Version: 1.0
Nice browser, but needs some work, doesn't redirect me to mail using links in craigslist, full screen mode is good but there is no way to go back to normal mode. The multiple pages is great, better than safari, because you can see all the open pages are open. The browser feels a little bit slow, I'm pretty sure with some updates can fix this problems.
Overall, great potential, just not quite mature yet

Like its desktop big brother, iCab Mobile is a feature-heavy program. There are some room for basic improvements:
Excellent Browser
Machster 4.0 stars Version: 1.5
iCab Mobile is a follow-up to the developer's iCab for Mac. Just like that version this one is feature rich. The things that I look for in a replacement for the built-in Safari are included: importing bookmarks from PC/Mac, full screen (ridiculously easy to get in-and-out of), smooth scrolling, tabs, speeds equal to Safari, filters and, yes, tapping on the top menu bar returns you to the top of the page, and landscape view. What is lacking? It may not be the fastest browser and another one has copy/paste, select text, download documents. But those are probably coming next month in FW 3.0 anyway. The issues that have been described in previous reviews seem to have been fixed, which demonstrates a developer who listens and acts. I have read in many reviews here some people bragging about other iPod browsers replacing Safari, but after trying them various issues have always appeared. So far no such issues have shown up with iCab. Well done Alex.
Not a replacement for Safari, yet.

I look at iCab's iPhone Browser as an investment, betting on their long history with Mac OS versions preceding OS X. The features are useful and well-implemented and I suspect that the memory management system currently available is at least partially responsible for the problems of speed and freezes/crashes that I have experienced for the several days that I have been using it. Although it is not even in the "likely" category of improvements with 3.0 coming soon, I suspect that the Palm Pre's expected better memory/tasking capabilities will enhance chances for improvements for iPhone in the nearer term. So, I'm hoping and even expecting this app to continue to improve performance in an increasingly complex Internet environment. When I look at the complexity of a ate like Huffington Post, I understand how even fairly recent Mac desktops bog down and eat CPU capacity like couchers eat Cheetos watching Bourne chases at one am. Three stars with expectation of four soon and hope for five in a few months when it will likely be getting more than 199 pennies. Prove me right.
Very promising
Cadeyrn 5.0 stars Version: 1.5
This app looks extremely promising and with a few improvements can replace iPhone Safari for me: 1. Allow Importing Safari Bookmarks 2. Don't forget to add the page-saving you guys were talking about 3. Let me edit the homepage I can't wait for the greatness that this app will obviously become soon.
Crash crash crash & slow
piet999 2.0 stars Version: 1.5
Some good ideas but it feels like too many features have been crammed in the app and not enough time was spent making the basics work correctly. It crashes frequently and everything slows down to a crawl when opening multiple tabs.

This is the first version I've tried and so far I'm really pleased with it. I haven't had it that long, but I really like the feature set and so far it seems stable. Will update this review as I get more experience with it. At first it seemed slow, but it seems to get faster as you use it, maybe due to caching?
The very best browser

I have tried almost all the paid web browsers. This is by far the very best of all of them. Good job by the developers!!!
Fantastic! Few fixes for five star rating.
doach5 4.0 stars Version: 1.6
People, learn how to use the browser before you review it. Most complaints can be chalked to user error. Ex. Cannot go back to regular mode from full screen mode? How about using three fingers on screen or shaking. Or try reading directions. Four stars. Only gripe, more options for exiting full screen mode. More navigation options while in full screen mode. Vannilasurf still has you beat in this department. The gestures are gimmicky and don't work most of the time. They just dont. Have you actually tried it yourself? How about a transparent little icon while in full screen mode like vanilla surf. This is the only reason vanilla surf is popular and stability. And you now match them on stability and simply crush them on options. No homepage button on screen. Again vanilla surf has you beat here also. A home tab in the search bar. You literally crush them on everything else. Fix these and you have five stars. Not only from me but everyone out there. It would be the perfect browser. Almost there. Good job. Good work. Best by far and I tried them all. Actually listens to reviews and updates alot.
Can be better
DAT2000 3.0 stars Version: 1.6
My four sugestions 1. It would be nice if I could access the download files from the main window with no download limit. 2. Quicker browser (a compressed browser) 3. I would like the back and foward buttons to be on the bottom left and search on the top right. 4. There is too much going on in the tools section.
Missing some basics...

Great browser with more features than most if not all the other 3rd party browsers out there. However, the UI is down-right fugly. There is no stop button, or homepage button. The buttons that are there pop up a window that covers the whole screen rather than a convinient tiny pop-up window to make your selection. For example: the search icon should be at the top and display a small translucent pop-out menu to enter your search query using your prefered engine or an option to open the full interface for other engines. Anyway, that's my $.02
Best alt. browser on the iPhone.

This is definately the best all-round browser on the iPhone. I have bought and used almost 20 browsers and this is without a doubt the best. From multiple pages, to offline reading, to DOWNLOADING, this browser is tops. I love the ability to rotate the display, and lock it when you want. Well-rounded, oft-updated, much appreciated. Thanks.
This update is good!

Nice job on this update; keep it up! UserAgent mod us helpful. Best features for the money...
Fantastic! Few fixes for five star rating.

Only gripe, more options for navigating in full screen mode. Oceanus and Vanilla surf still have you beat in this department. The gestures are gimmicky and don't work most of the time. They just dont. Have you actually tried it yourself? How about transparent lcons while in full screen mode like Oceanus. They have the best fullscreen navigation browser in the app store. You can change the transparency of the navigation buttons. This is better than swiping left or right. Your implementation while a good idea, does not work. So your left to use three fingers to bring up the tool bar just to navigate. This is frustrating beyond belief. No homepage button on screen. Most browsers have you beat here also. A home tab in the search bar. You literally crush them on everything else. Fix these and you have five stars. Not only from me but everyone out there. It would be the perfect browser. Almost there. Good job.
Let's you change the UserAgent! No more being forced to use the 'mobile' version of sites.

This is great - go to iPhone Settings app, then iCab settings, and choose Browser ID. Choose a desktop browser and go browse the web in iCab. Some sites, such as Chase.com often automatically redirect iPhone web browsers to a mobile version of their site. Most then give you a link to their full website, but Chase actually will not let you to their regular site at all, unless you change the UserAgent to something other than an iPhone. This allows you to access more advanced features that most banks (I've tried PNC, BOA, Chase) won't let you do from mobile sites - particularly transferring to/from external bank accounts! Great App, and developer.
By far best browser

Excellent alternative to iPhone safari
C141medic 5.0 stars Version: 1.7
This app is great. It has all the functionality that should have been in Safari. I love the ability to download web pages as well as being able to password protect saved web forms. Kudos to the developer for such a useful program. One of the best and must have apps out there.
Best iPhone Browser
Timiphone 5.0 stars Version: 1.7
Not only is this the best iPhone browser I've used, it's one of the best iPhone apps I've tried, period. Very thoughtfully designed and easy to use. The ability to download linked files to iPhone, and transfer them later via wifi to Mac or PC is awesome. Latest version supports full screen gestures for navigation. Excellent built-in help explains all features.
Deserves more credit and recognition.

Extremely pleased by the features offered by this app. Loading tabs in the background, caching of webpages to view off-line, bookmark folders, filters, pre-set search pages, full screen viewing are just a few of its features. Might be a little slower than some of the other web browsers and probably is more for advanced users (given the somewhat complex range of options --- There are configuration settings both within the app itself and in the iPhone settings tab. But if what the app offers is what you have been looking for in a web browser, then I would recommend you give it a try.
Oooooh yaaa!

This is a really really nice upgrade from Safari. I was never much of a fan of iCab on the Mac platform (although it has improved significantly!), but the mobile version is really sweet. Everything works as intended and you get so many more features than you gave in safari. Nice work!!
Better than Safari

ICab is much more customizable than any other iPhone browser. If you use Fitefox on your mac, it's easy to transfer bookmarks over to ICab mobile. Any speed difference between this app and Safari is negligible and is more than compensated for by its added functionality.
It crashes all the time, even with latest OS
GTDfan 1.0 stars Version: 1.7
It's not the worst browser I have tried but it is the worst I have paid for. If I bought this at a regular store I would go right back and ask for my money back. It's got lots of features but I can't get past it crashing all the time.
Can be better
DAT2000 3.0 stars Version: 1.6
My four sugestions 1. It would be nice if I could access the download files from the main window with no download limit. 2. Quicker browser or a compressed browser option 3. I would like the back and foward buttons to be on the bottom left and search and settings on the top right. 4. There is too much going on in the tools section.
