'Angry Birds Space' Review - The Final Frontier
Calendar16 Thu, 22 Mar 2012 22:01:57 UTC +00:00
Let's wind the clocks back to 2009, as really, to appreciate what Angry Birds has become, I think we need to go back and appreciate what Angry Birds was. The App Store was a crazy place. The "gold rush" was still in full effect. Publishers like Chillingo were trying to stake as large of a claim as possible in this brave new world brought about by the impulse-powered instant gratification of downloading a 99¢ game and the exploding popularity of the iPhone. Chillingo was incredibly successful in pooling together a library of games we called "AAA titles" at the time. iDracula [ $2.99 ] may look incredibly archaic by today's standards, but back then, it was among the cream of the crop. In late May, Chillingo spun off a new brand called Clickgamer.com, which per the original press release was intended to "carry casual games and software applications in the Apple Read More
2010: The Year of 'Angry Birds'
Calendar16 Wed, 29 Dec 2010 17:58:50 UTC +00:00
Rovio has put us in an interesting predicament with our end of the year coverage. It's impossible to not somehow mention Angry Birds [99¢ / Lite / HD], but strictly speaking, it is a game released in 2009. December 10th, 2009, to be exact. The game's appearance on the App Store was without much fanfare, as it was (and still is) published under Chillingo's Clickgamer brand. Established in late May of 2009, Clickgamer is Chillingo's secondary brand to offload casual titles and other games they wouldn't label as an "AAA title" like iDracula [99¢], and other top games of the time. From the original press release: Chillingo's decision to relegate Angry Birds to the Clickgamer brand seems to be a clear indication that they had few expectations of the game which has since become their flagship title, and likely played a major role as a bargaining chip when EA acquired Chillingo Read More
Killer Strategies For Six of Our Favorite iOS Games
Calendar16 Wed, 13 Oct 2010 22:27:54 UTC +00:00
Posted 10/13/2010 at 2:27pm | by The Mac|Life Staff We love our iOS games. In fact, we've played some of them so much we were able to come up with some helpful hints for six of our favorite games. » If you’re not playing a Druid character and would like to get some cheap healing, learn the Regeneration spell from the Troll. This will help save Blue Mana and won’t end your turn unless your enemy uses a Resists Magic spell. » Get a Giant Rat mount if you can. The Rat is easy to beat in the training game, and, once leveled high enough, will allow you to avoid road monsters while adding a valuable Cunning bonus in combats. » Practice! Beating even one stage unlocks Eternal mode, which lets you play without a time limit and improve your skills. Use this to your advantage, especially if you’re getting used Read More
Dual-stick shooters are popular at the AppStore with titles suitable for almost any taste. Mindless fans adore Minigore (TMA Review) and iDracula – Undead Awakening; while mature, story-loving fans may prefer the stylish Garters & Ghouls (TMA Review) or the addictive Guerrilla Bob (TMA Review). In 2009, the smart-looking, deep RPG-shooter, Alive 4-ever (TMA Review) wowed us. And now it RETURNS, bigger, bloodier and more gorgeous than ever. Alive 4-ever RETURNS is a zombie-themed dual-stick shooter in many ways true to the original. It has been about a month since the virus was first set free in Nefount City and the authorities have just arrested Dr. Lederman and extradited him to the US. Unfortunately there has been an accident and the ship has sunk somewhere around a small island off the coast of California. A handful of survivors unaffected by the original outbreak now have to find a way to leave the island Read More
Review: Guerilla Bob for iPhone
Calendar16 Mon, 19 Apr 2010 16:42:23 UTC +00:00
Guerrilla Bob looks like he’s a cigar-chomping, bad-guy-stomping soldier with a gruff voice and a lot of killer weaponry, but he’s not. He also used to be the best friend of John Gore (of Minigore fame) until the two had a falling out, and so Mr. Gore actually plays the role of your arch nemesis throughout the campaign mode. It sounds epic, but it’s not. Only the graphics are “wicked” The sad thing about Guerrilla Bob is that it looks so darn good. I would say “damn good”, but I don’t want to make ol’ Bob blush. Everything about Guerilla Bob is corny, and not in a charming B-Movie, Bruce Campbell kind of way. Guerilla Bob’s hero isn’t Duke Nukem, but rather the Mario Bros. These are other action heroes who fight evil, but do it in a very goofy, cartoony, and basically harmless way. That’s not to say that I Read More

iPhone Gaming: Looking Back on 2009 and Forward to 2010
Calendar16 Thu, 24 Dec 2009 20:20:34 UTC +00:00
With the year coming to a close, I feel confident in saying with as much authority as I can muster that 2009 has been an amazing year. Soon we will be posting the results of weeks of deliberation on what we feel were the best games, a holiday buyer's guide for people who opened an iPod touch or iPhone this Christmas, and other year-end stories highlighting the various games we feel are the "must-haves" of 2009-- But it hardly seems right to summarize the year in a few simple lists of game titles, brief synopses and links to reviews when so many remarkable games were created and events transpired that were still highly noteworthy or influential but fall outside of the rigid boundaries of "best of" listings. When the App Store first launched on July 10th, 2008, very few people, myself included, realized the full potential of a reasonably open platform Read More
Today Chillingo has decided to get in on some of this holiday sale action by dropping the prices on seven of their popular games to only $.99 for a limited time. The games included in the promotion are: All seven games will be on sale for the next three days.  Not specifically mentioned in the promotion, although it is a $.99 game published by Chillingo, is Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs. Don’t forget, EA and Gameloft have a number of titles marked down to only $.99 as well.  We have very little doubt that even more developers will partake in this holiday sale extravaganza, so keep watching the site for details. Chillingo Celebrates Halloween Early With An iDracula Sale
Calendar16 Tue, 27 Oct 2009 20:44:47 UTC +00:00
Chillingo and developer MoreGames Entertainment have decided to celebrate Halloween a little early this year with an iDracula sale. iDracula is essentially the game that started the whole top-down survival shooter craze in the App Store.  In the game you are tasked with defending yourself from a horde of vampires, werewolves, witches, and even Dracula himself by utilizing eight different weapons, including a flamethrower, grenade launcher, and BFG.  You are able to control your character with dual on-screen joysticks, and your weapons are set to automatic fire, so just run around guns blazing without running into an enemy to achieve the highest possible score.  The game also features four game modes to mix up the gameplay. iDracula had been priced at $2.99 for the last three months, but it is now on sale for only $.99. The App Store has tons of top-down survival shooters, with the most recognizable being iDracula and Minigore, but the problem with most of those titles is that they lack content and longevity.  That’s definitely not the case with developer Meridian’s new top-down survival shooter, Alive 4-Ever. Alive 4-Ever is one of those rare games that is basically complete at launch.  Instead of releasing Alive 4-Ever early and promising updates to add content later on, Alive 4-Ever comes out of the gates swinging. The game features the usual dual joystick controls, but that’s where most of the similarities with other games in the genre end. Alive 4-Ever contains 30 missions that include things like eliminating a given amount of zombies, rescuing survivors, and defeating bosses.  It also contains a RPG element by allowing you to upgrade your character’s attributes, 16 different weapons, some solid graphics with gory details, and to cap it all Read More
We first showed you screenshots of Minigore way, way back in early June.  The wait has literally been unbearable since that time, but today we can finally relax and enjoy the adorableness that is Minigore because it is now available in the App Store. Minigore is a 3D survival shooter that places you in the tiny shoes of the one and only John Gore.  John finds himself surrounded by furries, which are vicious, hairy little creatures with particularly sharp teeth, and you must protect yourself from them by utilizing the various weapons at your disposal. The game features gameplay mechanics that are very similar to iDracula.  Your left on-screen joystick controls your direction of movement, while the right joystick controls your direction of fire.  The furries, your evil enemies, come in four different shapes and sizes: a small Minifurry, a regular Furry, a Giant Furry, and the most dangerous of them all, the Read More
'Minigore' - A Furry Survival Shooter
Calendar16 Thu, 30 Jul 2009 04:20:32 UTC +00:00
The anticipation thread for Chillingo's Minigore [App Store] started all the way back on May 15th. 3,546 posts later, Minigore is finally here! Minigore is a dual-stick survival shooter similar to iDracula [App Store]. Two on-screen joysticks control the game, the right controls where you shoot and the left handles your movement. You only get one life and can get hit twice before you die. The game also comes with two levels of difficulty. Your arsenal to dispatch the swarms of furries consists of your standard machine gun, a shotgun that you can pick up from a crate, and an exploding crate to inflict area effect damage. There are four types of enemies in game, three different sizes of furries and a flaming furry that runs a little faster. The standard furries come in three sizes. When you shoot a large furry it will split in to smaller furries, and once Read More
Minigore Gameplay Preview Video And Screenshots

Minigore is a new game for the iPhone and iPod touch that is being developed by Mountain Sheep and published by the one and only Chillingo.  The game has been in development for quite some time, but it should be available any day now.  To hold you over until that day comes, Chillingo has released a few details for the game, a new gameplay trailer, and some screenshots. Minigore is a 3D survival shooter that puts you in the shoes of a little square fellow named John Gore.  Gore finds himself surrounded by creatures known as Furries, and you must protect yourself from them at all costs. Furries come in three different shapes and sizes.  There is a small Minifurry, a regular Furry, and a Giant Furry.  Giant Furries are the worst because they split into several regular Furries when destroyed, those regular Furries will then split into Minifurries when destroyed Read More
Developer Of iDracula Brings You Knights Onrush
Calendar16 Wed, 03 Jun 2009 19:21:00 UTC +00:00
The developer of iDracula, MoreGames, together with the hit publisher Chillingo have just released Knights Onrush for the iPhone and iPod touch, and if you think it looks like every other castle defense game in the App Store, you are sorely mistaken. Knights Onrush takes the castle defense genre and kicks it up another notch.  The game allows you to interact with the oncoming knights in a tons of different ways, and that’s why Chillingo feels that this is a must have for any castle defense fan. “Knights Onrush is an insanely fun game to play. The game’s core feature is how dynamic and over-the-top everything feels. Just What You Need, Another Terminator Related Game
Calendar16 Thu, 21 May 2009 21:48:16 UTC +00:00
If you do a quick search in the App Store using the keyword “Terminator” you will find tons of applications related to the topic.  The App Store now contains Terminator comics, graphic novels, games, and even an image creator that I may have had entirely too much fun with.  Big Head Games and Dark Horse Comics decided that just wasn’t enough terminator content because they have released yet another Terminator based application in the App Store. The Terminator, as it is so simply called, is an iDracula-esque game set in the Terminator universe.  The game features two modes of play, Quick Play and Story Mode.  Quick Play has you destroying as many enemies as possible without dying, while Story Mode presents the first episode of a back-story leading up to where the film takes over. The Terminator features two different styles of gameplay, one where you control the character and simply Read More

iDracula will have you coming back for more!
AlbieOne 4.0 stars Version: 1.0
The first thing you notice with iDracula is the stunning graphics so you almost wonder at first if the gameplay can match that. I can honestly say that gameplay is amazing, and you will play until your thumbs hurt. iDracula is very polished, and while the controls take a little getting used, you'll enjoy all the carnage. The controls are a bit unorthodox, but by default, you have one wheel control that controls the direction you walk/move on the left side, and another on the right that controls you shooting direction. You have a variety of weapons throughout the game including a pistol, shotgun, crossbow, grenade launcher, and machine gun, and you use a swipe function to change weapons. Note that you acquire most weapons through powerups, and they are not given to you at the start of the game. There are two modes of gameplay: Survival and Rush. In Survival, your objective is to shoot the hordes of creatures coming at you and try to survive as long as you can. It can be pretty intense as you shoot the hordes of vampires, ghouls, and werewolves, but you'll have the opportunity to pick up powerups and additional weapons. You'll also pick up Perks which give you a choice of additional powers including health, faster weapons reloading, shooting multiple arrows, you name it. And you get a rank with everyone starting out as a Noob. For Rush, think Survival to the power of 10. You thought there were hordes of creatures in Survival. You haven't seen anything yet with Rush. This mode is more along the lines of "take out as many as you can before they take you out", and the word "intense" would be an understatement. The sound effects aren't too overwhelming, although I found myself wishing there were more sounds of anguish. While there is no storyline, the devs have promised additional updates that will add levels and campaigns. But for now, iDracula is off to a great start.
Good shooter for the money
Sbell42 3.0 stars Version: 1.0
Overall, the game is a well polished shooting game. It's a great game when you just want to sit down and play for a couple of minutes, but don't expect the sort of gameplay or depth of a Diablo-type game. Definitely worth the money though.
Fun Game, but needs some playability changes
sonryhater 3.0 stars Version: 1.0
Let me start off by saying kudos to the developers for attempting to create this type of game on the iPhone, but I think it's lacking some polish. Worth $.99 for some throw away fun? Yes. Worth anything more? Not really. Fun to look at and interesting to see this type of game on the iPhone, but it's too shallow to be more than just a curiosity.
woah
IpodTouchUser101 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
that was intense...i mean for a dollar i ddint expect that much and man this game is about $5 worth and maybe even more if there were more levels and weapons and stuff.
First Review! Game is SO worth it at $0.99 OR $2.99.
Lil Pips 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
This game feels like an Xbox Live Arcade game, not an iPhone game. It's really unbelievable. The graphics are amazing, the animation is exceptional, and the controls are VERY responsive (they can sometimes get in the way, but there's no way around that). There are only two gametypes: Survival-which feels like the campaign mode with more powerful enemies, weapons, and perks the longer you last, and Rush-which actually feels like a "survival" type gameplay. In Rush you have infinite ammo and no powerups (and only 1 type of monster) to see how long you can last. It looks like there is only one map, but it DOES scroll (it is not just one screen). It's definitely not a "play it on the subway" type game, as you'll really want to make yourself comfortable for a long gaming session. HIGHLY recommended!
New update is great, but I want MORE
SolidAsSnake 4.0 stars Version: 1.1
Aside from wiping out my high scores, the latest update does a terrific job. However, I'm desperate for more: 1. Story mode! 2. Get rid of the perk that makes you invincible for 20 seconds and kills you. Worst. Perk. Ever. 3. Multiplayer mode, either co-op or as hunter vs Dracula. I'd love to be Dracula for once! 4. More maps. 3 is good, but still a tease. 5. Customizable hunter. Not saying the current hunter looks bad, but what's the worse that could happen if I don't want to play as that guy and play as Jonathan or Mina Harker? Looking forward to the next update!
Awesome Price!
Greengas 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
Thanks for making such a good looking and fun game at a affordable price.
Solid
Trojahnmann 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
Game is great for .99 and would pay 5ish for more levels and some online components. The name of this game is very laughable and doesnt do it justice.. Idracula?!?! Really? Change that and also put some blood in here! Other than that great game and must buy !!
Shooter Nirvana!!!
Lord Gek 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
Clearly following in the footsteps of the PC cult classic Crimsonland, iDracula rocks hard! I love the whole perk system which gives the game a touch of an RPG feel (basically each time you level up you get to choose 1 of 4 randomly presented abilities).
Great fun at a Great price!
Kingsley Zissou 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
For only .99 and with the promise of new levels, weapons and enemies how could anyone pass this up. Great graphics and gameplay, the most fun game I have played on my iPod in a while. I only wish I had more hands so I could give this game four thumbs up!
Death to Vampires
BMike 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
Great game. Great Controls. Gameplay is even better because you are shooting are twilight characters.
Why is this awesome game only $.99?!?!?!
weirdoe 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
One of (if not THE) best games in the app store! If you like video games, iDracula is a must buy!
Crapula!
Ludballs 1.0 stars Version: 1.0
Don't be fooled by the graphics this game is DULL! Lame gameplay with aimless running around with weird dogs and creatures following. Really not worth your time.
A MUST GET!
hakthedj 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
this game is up there in the top 3 of all iphone games ive played! never have i bought a game so easy to play, so fluid, and so fun within the first minute! i was a bit worried about the dual wheels for directional controls, but they are smooth and accurate. you can walk forwards or backwards and fire at the same time, the control scheme feels just like robotron and is smooth as butter. all sorts of nasty creatures come your way, with all manner of weapons to dispatch them. the default pistol is a bit hard with a horde of nasties, but all sorts of weapons become yours after killing monsters. the huge elephant gun 'boomstick' is my favorite. one shot and its monster bits and entrails! Chillingo Ltd. has outdone themselves. A++ game!
ZERG RUSH!!!!111one
fortris 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
I love rush mode, but it should have options for what weapon you start with (like the rocket launcher) Story mode is great, but the perk system needs to be fixed. Sometimes there are only two different options because one perk occupies three slots. Other than that, no lag, great controls, but at one point, every time I started the game it crashed untill I restarted my phone. I won't take away because it's a glitch, but the limited game modes do take away from the longevity. I will re-submit my review when the new update comes out. Overall, would happily pay $3 for it.
Truely Fantastic!!
its a me!! 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
Excellent controls, superb graphics, fun gameplay!! Enough said 

Addmelol 2.0 stars Version: 1.1
It crashes way too much and they haven't fixed the bugs like bfg against those tiny guys even the high scores got worse with all this scrolling after the update
Great game
Isaac23b 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
One of the best games if not the best that I have. Would pay if it had a story mode
I likes
Hinessyy 5.0 stars Version: 1.1
I don't see why so many dislike it, it's a great game, especially for a single dollar. And a tip: a single crossbow shot kills the dracula things ;) Edit I have never had a crash. Ever. This is a great game! I love it, good enemys, nice variation in weapons, good quality all over. The game freezes occasionally, but dosent crash, so it's not a problem, just an annoyance. Amazing overall game! Keep up the good work!
very good game

Good job... Needs a few more levels, more monsters, more weapons, maybe easy mode..... But this game is well worth getting.. About the weapons.. A flamethrower would rock.... And more magic pls.... Thanks

Great game for only 99 cents. I wish there's a story mode or coop online mode. Mayb more character ( a girl?), more guns, monsters on the future update....overall HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

I got this app as soon as I could while it was 99 cents and is the most used App I have. Now with it's multiple maps and modes it's is definately worth the 2.99 price and I would recomend it to anyone with an Iphone or Ipod touch.
Love game, annoyed @ 1.1.1

5 stars, until the horrid logo and sporadic crashing of the latest version. On the plus side, the new version has more balance to the random power up choices. Best = having telekenisis and bonus finder, worst = rapid. I play this game until I receive the 10% battery warning. It may actually be a plot from Apple to exaust our battery life - and it's working. Great game - please change the icon back, please?
Boring
im-unarmed 2.0 stars Version: 1.1.1
I don't see what all the fuss is about, there is no aiming, all you do is walk around and spin a stupid wheel to shoot hoping you hit something( very stupid game
Not The Best For Its Type

For the price of $2.99 it is not worth it. Mini Gore and Alive 4ever are much better games and only $0.99 each.
