My wife is a native Cantonese speaker, and she couldn't make heads or tails of many of the phrasings (e.g., she thought that their pronunciation of "Where are you?" was "Whose woman are you?"). A lot of the wording/phrasing was in a Mandarin style, but with Cantonese style pronunciation. It is definitely not the colloquial Cantonese you would need to get around in Hong Kong. She couldn't understand "Can I buy you a drink?" at all. Again, it appeared to be a Cantonese pronunciation of the Mandarin phrasing.

People that are not familiar with this language might give this app good ratings because it's nicely categorized and the audio is really clear. The main problem is everything's spoken the "official" way. Nobody speaks like that. You will sound funny because that's not how "real" Cantonese sounds like. If you want to learn the normal way of speaking Cantonese then this app is not for you. Get this if you want to exclude yourself from how everyone else speaks it.

I noticed that neither of the previous reviews were for this version (1.02), so I bought it to find out if it was still broken and, if so, to let people know. It is.
