By Chris Kirby on April 15th, 2012 This week at 148Apps, updates were new, beetles flew, and MMOs on Chrome and Android grew. Learn more - we promise - by reading on.... This week at 148Apps.com, we checked out stunning cool new multiplayer features in two fan-favorite games: Infinity Blade 2 and SpellTower. Carter Dotson had this to say about IB2′s new features: “Infinity Blade 2‘s first major content update has finally dropped on the App Store, bringing its new ClashMob feature to the game. The ClashMob challenges are asynchronous multiplayer events where everyone who participates contributes toward some collective goal.” And Jennifer Allen writes that, “SpellTower has just got even better with a major new update coming to the app. The big update is the addition of Debate Mode, multiplayer support via bluetooth providing a Rush-style battle of word skills amongst players.” Read more about Infinity Blade 2 here and Read More
Infinity Blade 2's new ClashMobs update lets players team up asynchronously with friends to take on challenges for the promise of free loot. Infinity Blade 2‘s first major content update has finally dropped on the App Store, bringing its new ClashMob feature to the game. The ClashMob challenges are asynchronous multiplayer events where everyone who participates contributes toward some collective goal. The early challenges include dealing as much damage to an enemy in 30 seconds as possible, or collecting a bunch of teleporting gold bags in a short amount of time. If the collective score of everyone in the challenge reaches a certain number, then everyone is given a lucrative award. There are multiple challenges added each day, and it’s possible to pre-register to get in to these upcoming challenges. Note that each challenge can only be played by players once. Players are also encouraged to collect Game Center and Facebook Read More

ClashMobs Are Coming To 'Infinity Blade 2' Next Week
Calendar16 Fri, 06 Apr 2012 17:04:21 UTC +00:00
So, what's Chair Entertainment been up to, you wonder? Well, at least part of the studio has been busy designing and implementing Infinity Blade 2's [$6.99] long-awaited, and awesome-sounding, ClashMobs feature. IGN Wireless just posted a short hands-on piece that details its functionality and otherwise shows off the new-look element. From what we're gathering, the early promise of ClashMob has been realized: in it, you and thousands of others take turns beating the crap out of one really big monster in an epic attempt to gather exclusive loot. The challenges come in the form of skirmishes, and seem like they'll have a mini-game sort of feel to them. One type skirmish has you doing the most damage to a monster that you possibly can within 30 seconds, for example. IGN details some of its social hooks: The more connected friends you have participating in ClashMobs, the better benefits you'll be eligible Read More
The Original 'Infinity Blade' is On Sale for Just a Buck
Calendar16 Mon, 02 Apr 2012 12:00:52 UTC +00:00
It's hard to believe that it's been more than a year since Epic Games and Chair Entertainment released Infinity Blade [99¢], an Unreal Engine-powered sword battling RPG that redefined what we could expect from visuals on the iOS platform. They released the sequel, Infinity Blade II [$6.99], this past November, and basically improved upon everything in the first game. However, the original Infinity Blade is still really great, and I still find myself playing both titles regularly. If you're one of those people who haven't dived into the whole Infinity Blade thing yet, now would be a good time to check out the series yourself without much risk, as the first game is on sale for its lowest price ever at just 99¢. Even if you don't think the Infinity Blade style of game is for you, you at least owe it to yourself to drop a buck on it and Read More

By Chris Kirby on March 18th, 2012 This week at 148Apps, new iPads made us glad, pattern recognition was rad, and small screens were bad. You want to know more than that? Then read on.... It’s hardly a surprise that this week at 148Apps.com was dominated by all things related to Apple’s new iPad. Carter Dotson put together a great list of ten Retina Display-ready iPad games, saying, “Just bought a new iPad? Congratulations. Sure, tweets may come in clearer than ever, and videos at 1080p quality, but what’s the real way to show off that beautiful new 2048×1536 screen? With games, of course! List of Games Updated for the New iPad Retina Display
Calendar16 Fri, 16 Mar 2012 11:00:38 UTC +00:00
Arguably the biggest addition to this year's version of the iPad (or at least, the most immediately noticeable one) is the inclusion of a Retina Display screen that ups the resolution to a monstrous 2048 x 1536. As anybody who has upgraded from an older device to an iPhone 4 or an iPhone 4S, you know that the Retina Display screen is a stunning upgrade in person and makes all other mobile device screens look inferior in comparison. Such is the case with the new iPad's fancy screen, it really needs to be seen to be believed. For anybody upgrading to a new iPad today, or if this is your first foray into the world of the iPad, then chances are you're interested in having the games that can show off the new screen as you gloat to your friends. Surprise! Infinity Blade has made a lot of money. The other afternoon, Epic Games announced that, overall, the franchise has earned $30 million since the debut of the original [$5.99] in December 2010. An astounding $5 million of that comes from the earnings of Infinity Blade 2 [$6.99], which released November 30th, 2011. A month or so ago. Here's some boilerplate for your eyeholes: “The success of the Infinity Blade franchise is testament to our talented team who is devoted to making games we want to play, all while using Unreal Engine technology to redefine what is expected from games on iOS devices,” Epic Games President Dr. Michael Capps says in a statement. “We have so much more in store for players, and will continue to make great content for Apple’s evolving platforms.” The thing to take away from this isn't exactly "wow, that's a lot of money." In October of 2001, Rockstar Games dropped a bomb on the gaming world. That bomb was called Grand Theft Auto III. In just one release, Rockstar shifted their flagship 2D series into a 3D world, introduced an enormous chunk of the population to the concept of massive sandbox games, and stirred up the first of many controversies that the company has since become known for. Just over 10 years later, GTA3 is back — but now it’s mobile. As of yesterday, it’s available for iOS and Android. Same game, same grit, same campy over-the-top action… but in your pocket. So, how has the game held up? How well did it make the jump from controller to touchscreen? Is it worth your $5? Lets go ahead and answer those immediately: Surprisingly well, moderately okay, and probably. For a game that’s probably older than the TV sitting in your living room, Grand Theft Read More

New iPhone, iPad and Android Apps for November 2011
Calendar16 Wed, 07 Dec 2011 14:00:00 UTC +00:00
We love new apps. It is one of the joys of our life to sift through the flood of apps that are published or updated every month and deliver the best or most interesting to our readers. November had some great apps for Android, the iPhone and the iPad. In our ongoing series of Apps Of The Month, we take a look at what November produced below. We are continuing for the third month with our list of app updates so you can keep track of what you need to update for functionality and security purposes. The list, as always, is a bit subjective so please let us know in the comments if we missed an app or you have found one that you cannot live without. Behold the new iPhone and iPad blockbuster from Epic Games and ChAIR Entertainment: Infinity Blade II. Back in October when Apple announced the new iPhone 4S, most of the media attention surrounded the new device, and for good reason. With a new processor and all sorts of improved internals, it was hard not to be excited about the new member of the iPhone family. But there was another announcement at that event that made me almost as excited: the official unveiling of Infinity Blade II by Epic Games and ChAIR Entertainment. In case you missed the original, Infinity Blade was one of the original “killer apps” available on iOS. While the gameplay looked beautiful and was a whole lot of fun, gameplay began to wear a little old when facing battle after battle with nearly identical bosses. Infinity Blade II started with the gameplay and visuals of the original, then made Read More

'Infinity Blade 2' Crash Fix Is Out
Calendar16 Mon, 05 Dec 2011 17:05:34 UTC +00:00
That [$6.99] fix? It's out. Earlier last week, droves of users with fourth gen iPod Touches and first generation iPads were reporting nasty crash issues with Epic and Chair's stellar follow-up. Epic was quick to say, "Hey, we're going to fix this thing" and it appears as though the duo has with version 1.01., if reports from our message board are a good indication. Unfortunately, there's still some rare bugs out there that this update hasn't squashed. Some of our readers are still having problems with frame rate and game transitions in a post-patch environment, while others are still reporting a dreadful-sounding save file glitch that consistently resets progress when the game is restarted. We're all pretty confident that, again, Epic and Chair are really interested in hammering out an update for these things in short order, but we're checking in to make sure. Regardless, if you or a loved one Read More
[iOS-Game] Infinity Blade II
Calendar16 Mon, 05 Dec 2011 16:36:18 UTC +00:00
By Chris Oldroyd, Monday, Dec 5, 2011 | Infinity Blade II has received an update that looks to address the issues that a lot of users have been experiencing. The details are a little scarce on what exactly the update address specifically. We can only assume it will fix the start up crashes that a lot of disappointed gamers have been experiencing. This Week at 148Apps, November 28-December 2
Calendar16 Mon, 05 Dec 2011 00:53:48 UTC +00:00
By Chris Kirby on December 4th, 2011 This week at 148Apps, the Blade dominated, Van Gogh painted and tablet users were game-sated (kind of a stretch, but it works). Read on, App-Lovers of the world. This week at 148Apps.com, writer Carter Dotson reviewed one of the most anticipated iOS games in recent memory – Infinity Blade II. Dotson writes, “Most of what is new here is a modified and extended progression structure. Instead of one path leading to a final boss, where failure means starting over, there are now several of them, with more branching paths to explore. There are 3 different weapon types now: the traditional swords, slow and heavy axes that deal more damage, and speedy dual swords that deal less base damage, but can do double damage once combos are started. The story is more fleshed out, with actual speaking dialogue from characters besides the God King.” $6.99 Read More
7 New Apps Worth Downloading This Week

by 1 of 7 Infinity Blade II for iOS launched on Thursday and immediately soared to the top of the App Store's best sellers list. It's the first iOS game that takes advantage of the superior graphics capabilities of the iPhone 4S, and we're impressed. See our full hands-on review for the details. $6.99. Infinity Blade II 1 DailyModi is a free iPhone app that provides daily inspiration in the form of three slideshows of twenty photos each. Today, for instance, my slideshows are Logan White Photography, Women's Shirts on Threadless and Maps Imagination. If I want more slideshows, I need to open the app again tomorrow. The app grew from a website called PlayModi that encourages users to create slideshows, though there's no pressure to do so in the app -- just a refreshingly limited amount of choice content for your swiping and rating pleasure. Infinity Blade II Rules as #1 App in App Store
Calendar16 Fri, 02 Dec 2011 03:14:42 UTC +00:00
by Infinity Blade II is shooting to the top of Apple’s app store best sellers list faster than you can chop a giant, medieval-themed dragon-beast in twain. The sword-swinging iOS game became the number one app in the app store on Dec.1, the same day it launched. Infinity Blade II stands out from other iOS games for it’s mature themes (there is blood and death) and for its stunning visuals which pull from the Unreal Engine 3. The original Infinity Blade received positive reviews and was heralded as one of the first hard-core mobile games thanks, in large part, to its aesthetic similarity to other top-tier console games. The game is so advanced, that many reviewers and enthusiasts eagerly awaited the launch just to see how far they could push their iOS gadgets. We’re pleased to say that the game, despite being gorgeous to look at, is also a blast to Read More

Two of the cases hold your credit cards, two of them are made of genuine, real cow-hide leather, and one of them is scratch-resistant. Read on to find out who, what, where, and why! 1 of 6 Cygnett Flexigel This case from Cygnett is a hard shell protective case that's flexible enough to outfit your iPhone and absorb shocks from unexpected falls. It's also anti-slip and scratch resistant. If you're looking for a simple hard shell covering that won't shatter in a fall, the Flexigel is your best bet. Infinity Blade 2 review: Oh so pretty, oh so good
Calendar16 Thu, 01 Dec 2011 22:09:04 UTC +00:00
The original Infinity Blade set standards for iOS gaming, in terms of graphics and also for gaming mechanics. The new sequel, Infinity Blade II, hit the U.S. App Store on Thursday. How does it match up to the original’s shining example? Infinity Blade 2 doesn’t deviate significantly from the path tread by its predecessor. This is still a game about duel-style combat, with parries, blocks, and dodges as your main evasive tools and swiping madly at the screen your primary offense. Your path is predetermined, or more commonly referred to as “on rails,” but in the case of these games, that’s little cause for complaint. The parts of Infinity Blade that defined it as a title remain in place, and users won’t feel like they need to relearn controls if they’ve played the first version. If you had problems with how the first one handled, however, there’s little to look for Read More
Review: Chair Entertainment / Epic Games Infinity Blade II

Company: Epic Games Price: $7 Compatible: iPhone 3GS/4/4S, iPod touch 3G/4G, iPad, iPad 2 Accessories Editor, iLounge Published: Thursday, December 1, 2011 Category: Games - iPad, iPhone + iPod When Infinity Blade launched just shy of a year ago, we were blown away. The game combined gorgeous graphics, intuitive controls, a beautiful soundtrack, and fun gameplay into an iOS-defining experience. It was a perfect showcase of just what the iPad and iPhone 4's hardware, specifically the A4 chip, is capable of. Infinity Blade earned not only a flat A rating from us, but also the distinction of iPad Game of the Year in our 2012 iPhone + iPod Buyers' Guide. It should come as no surprise then that Epic Games' announcement of Infinity Blade II ($7, version 1.0) at the iPhone 4S launch event in October 2011 was one of the highlights of the keynote address. Built to leverage the more Read More

Well this has been a crazy day. Infinity Blade 2 madness all over the place, a surprise Call of Duty announcement, Where's My Water went free with Facebook hijinx, and a ton of other stuff I never expected when I rolled out of bed this morning. I figured things would be slow, since Chair essentially claimed today as their day at the last keynote. But NO! So, this is less of a "coming tonight" and more of an "out now." I have a feeling things are only going to get crazier as we get close to the iTunes freeze in late December. The Bard's Tale, $5.99 - Forum Thread - Embarrassingly enough, the first time I heard about this comedic RPG was when new hit that it was coming to iOS. I was then shamelessly ridiculed for not having played it when it was first released on other platforms. That seems Read More
