MADDEN NFL 12 by EA SPORTS™

| FREE | Electronic Arts Inc
Great news for you football lovers out there, as EA Mobile has lowered the price of Madden NFL 12 to 99 cents to celebrate America’s biggest game. Android users will be able to get their hands on this game at a $4 discount compared to the normal price, so if you’re a fan of Madden, it may be in your best interest to snatch up the game before the sale ends. Speaking from experience, most of EA’s Android games don’t compare to the iOS versions. Madden on Android isn’t awful but it still has many flaws that are hard to ignore. The fact that it has confusing and cumbersome player controls, sucks up lots of data, and carries bugs that prevent many users from downloading the game’s content after their initial purchase is weird. If you don’t believe what I’m saying just read the user reviews on the Android Market page. However, I’d say it’s still worth the 99 cent sale price, but if you’re the frugal type, then you should check out the free NFL Pro 2012 from Gameloft. The NFL Pro game has a better review rating than Madden 2012, just saying, try it out before you spend your hard-earned money. The Big Game is just a few days away and whether you’re a Giants fan or a Patriots fan, it likely will be a great time filled with adult beverages, tasty snacks, funny commercials (including one from Samsung) and great football. Research shows that many of you will be using a smartphone or tablet during the game, so let’s take a look at some great apps which will help you enjoy the Super Bowl even more. One of my favorite parts of the Super Bowl is that it gives you an excuse to eat all sorts of delicious food that’s probably not good for you but let’s step our games up folks and create bites that are better than your average feedbag. I really like the iCookbook app on the iPad because not only does it have thousands of recipes, it has voice controls in it so you don’t have to worry about getting foodstuff onto your tablet. If you don’t want to pay the $5 for iCookbook, the Epicurious app is always good for finding ideas on what to cook. If you’re not a football fan and want to sound knowledgeable about the game, there are a wealth of sports-related apps to help you out. ESPN is the biggie in this category and it’s good and available for nearly every single platform. Don’t forget to give Bleacher Report a chance, as it has the expert opinion in there, as well as the fan’s perspective. If you’re lucky enough to be on the ground in Indianapolis for the Super Bowl, you can use your mobile browser and check out Indianapolissuperbowl.com for a list of events going on near the Big Game. . , the Android version can be found here.Download the ESPN iOS app here (iTunes link), the Android version can Read More

Facebook for Android

| FREE | Facebook
Two of the largest social networks, Facebook and LinkedIn, updated their Android apps. First comes the new member of the stock exchange, which app got some handy new features, including: In comparison, LinkedIn’s app got a much smaller update, adding the ability to share profiles with anyone in your network or via email from any member profile. Additionally, there are some under the hood bug fixes that were affecting Android 4.0 users — i.e those of you with the Galaxy Nexus… Dusan has been using smartphones since their introduction and is now following the latest trends in the industry. In addition to his interests in mobile phones, Dusan also loves to experiment with the latest web and mobile 2.0 services. The idea of accessing and managing your information from any device no matter where you are simply amazes him. Whether it's an online to-do list, note taking service or a video sharing social network, he's there to try it out. He admits though, he's still searching for the ultimate web-based organizational tool, which "sings" perfectly with the mobile PIM application. Google Chrome to Phone

| FREE | Google Inc.
Google updated its Google Chrome to Phone Android app with two new features. First of all, you’ll notice a new (improved) look and feel. Perhaps even more important is the added landscape support, which for some reason was missing from the initial app. You may be browsing (and consequently using Google Chrome to Phone) in a portrait mode exclusively, but I’m sure folks with side-sliding phones (those with QWERTY keyboards and perhaps the Sony Ericsson Xperia PLAY) more often than not rely on landscape view. Finally, this release also fixes crash that occurred when copying text from Chrome to the mobile device. All in all, if you use Chrome on your PC or Mac, and also happen to have an Android device, you simply must have this app installed. It will help you easily access web pages you’re looking on your computer from the phone/tablet. Capcom has made another Nintendo DS exclusive title available on iOS today as Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective has moved his quirky investigative prowess to the App Store today. If you recall the first Capcom Nintendo DS exclusive game to jump to the iOS platform was Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney back in 2010. Ironically, Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective was created by the same man: Shu Takumi. Instead of playing out courtroom drama from case to case, this mystery adventure game has players assuming the role of Sisel as he uses his Ghost Tricks powers to switch between the Land of the Living and the Ghost World. Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective for iOS features intuitive touch screen controls, enhanced graphics, and a much wider viewing area to help with solving puzzles. If you enjoyed Phoenix Wright’s writing, puzzles, and intriguing story, then you’ll want to experience Ghost Trick as it offers a very similar experience. The game is currently free to download and its first two chapters are free. If you’d like to continue the Ghost Trick adventure, the next chapters are available for purchase in three different packs for $4.99 each, or you can go all in and unlock the full game for $9.99. Showyou

| FREE | Remixation, Inc.
The folks at Showyou have just pushed out the 3.0 version of the social video app and it now includes multiple user interface tweaks and new features. For those who don’t know, Showyou is an app that scours your Twitter and Facebook feeds to find what videos are being shared. These videos are mainly being pulled in from YouTube but Showyou has also cut deals with the likes of Viacom to directly stream clips like the Colbert Report with the app. The company launched its iPad app about nine months ago and has been happy with the results so far: the average user has a session time of more than half an hour and most of the usage is found during the weekend and at night. This is different from usual Internet traffic patterns, which peak during the day. “This shows we’re welcoming the iPad into our weekends and evenings in ways we never did with the PC,” said Mark Hall, CEO of Remixnation, which makes Showyou. The grid user interface the debuted with the original Showyou app remains and it has been improved to give users more abilities. Hall said the app was specifically designed to be “swipe-focused” in order to best take advantage of the iPad and the 3.0 version makes bringing up new menus as simple as swiping on your tablet. Other new features include: You can download the Showyou 3.0 iPad app here (iTunes link). IntoNow

| FREE | IntoNow
The Super Bowl is going to be played this weekend and research suggests that many of you will be using a smartphone or tablet during the Big Game. Thanks to a new promotion, using the IntoNow app during the game could give you an opportunity to win free Pepsi for life. The promotion is a partnership between Yahoo and Pepsi MAX and it does involve a few steps. First, you have to download the IntoNow app, which uses audio cues to identify what you’re watching on television. Then, you have to watch the NFL Honors award show on Feb. 4 (9 p.m. EST) and tag it with the app. During the Super Bowl, use the app and when the Pepsi Max ad plays, it will unlock your entry into the contest. Whether you like Pepsi Max or not, I find it interesting that many companies are utilizing smartphones and tablets during the Super Bowl to reach the masses. We know that many companies will also be using Shazam for Super Bowl ads and this just shows how mainstream this stuff is becoming. You can download the IntoNow app for iOS here (iTunes link) and the Android version can be found here. Check out a video demonstration of how IntoNow works. Shazam

| FREE | Shazam Entertainment Ltd.
The Big Game is this weekend and research tells us that you’ll likely use your phone during the Super Bowl. One of the apps you may use a lot is Shazam, as it will be connected to a large portion of the Big Game including some of the ads. You may best know Shazam for its ability to identify songs which are being played but the audio-recognition technology isn’t just for music. The company has been steadily making inroads into the television space, as you can now Shazam multiple commercials and shows. During the Super Bowl, you will be able to use Shazam for almost half of the Super Bowl ads. This will provide you with more information and an interactive experience for brands like Toyota, Best Buy, Cars.com, Pepsi and Teleflora. These aren’t just links to a website, as using Shazam on some ads could help you win stuff. You can also use the Shazam app during the game to get up to the minute stats, participate in polls and buy merchandise. You can download the Shazam app for iOS here (iTunes link), for Android here and for Windows Phone here. Google Docs

| FREE | Google Inc.
Google updated its Google Docs app for Android to allow users to access their files even when there’s no Internet connection around. Then, once you download some of the files and change them while offline, simply tap Update and everyone else who can access your documents (or just you) we’ll see the difference. Moreover, the application will automatically update your offline files when you’re on Wi-Fi. The second big important change is improved support for Android tablets, with Google Docs finally offering a decent (high-resolution) reading experience. You can swipe left and right to flip between pages, or use the slider at the bottom to page ahead quickly. Unfortunately, native document editing (not HTML) is still missing and without it, well, Google Docs is still pretty useless for most of us. Not sure why it takes so long to include this feature (since it’s by far the most demanded by the users), but what do I know… Dusan has been using smartphones since their introduction and is now following the latest trends in the industry.
