I had heard about the print version of the iPhone Missing Manual from a friend, but I thought it would be silly to buy a book that is actually physically bigger than the device I am trying to figure out. Now here it is in searchable electronic format on my iPhone itself. I immediately was able to find a link in the table of contents for how to have multiple email accounts in the mail program, which I have been wondering how to do for a long time.

I always complained the iPhone never had a manual, and now it does. The images are crisp and look great. Very handy. Apple should include this manual as one of the default applications that ship with the iPhone.

In paper form, this is a fantastic resource. This app, however, needs to be reworked. Bugs abound. Example: attempting to scroll the available alternate fonts will crash the app. The initial format of the text renders odd page breaks and peculiar hanging sentences. Notably, the app allows for extensive customizing. I'd rather not be required to invest time in making the text comfortable to read. Content-wise, this is great info. Shame about the actual app design which, to express bluntly, is horrid. Please fix this O'Reilly/Pogue. Until such time, borrow or purchase the superior paperback form. Your local bookstore or library probably has it.

The book is east to read and informative but not for those who know the basics already. This is for novices. No special tricks or functions.

Reviewing version 1.5. The formatting of this iphone manual app is painful. I bought it on site because I've bought many of the paper books from the series but this is disappointing. They give you options to format it yourself but it should come formatted nicely right out of the box. The developers should go look at they elegant way the did the text for the books in the application 'classics' to see how it's done. The information is great and the only reason it gets a second star but honestly I doubt I'll ever look at this dog again - it's that ugly & uninviting.

It used to really bother me when I would have these specific questions about the iPhone with no manual to explain.. But I can't even place into words the relieve found by this app! At first I was alittle confused how to use it but once I got the hang I've never been so happy by an app. Seriously buy it- it's worth every cent and you will NOT regret it! It's the easiest most convient way to get answers to your questions PLUS nifty tips that if there even WAS a manual that came along it wouldn't include them. Buy it!

iPhone: The Missing Manual is a new O'Reilly publication; the full text of the O'Reilly book, packaged with the Stanza reader application. I've had an iPhone 3G for a month or so, and I'm a pretty experienced geek, so I've already explored a lot of the iPhone's capabilities, and the iTunes App Store. Somewhat to my surprise, the Missing Manual started giving me new information from early on, and covered a lot of hints and tricks. It's a fast read, too, with a light pleasant style that isn't quite so lightweight as to be annoying.

I've had my iPhone for several months so, at this point, have learned most of this the hard way. This app would've have been a fabulous resource for me, though, the first few weeks. Apple should include it with the iPhone purchase (of course, then it wouldn't be the "Missing Manual" anymore, I suppose). This searchable resource is clear, concise, affordable, and a must for the new iPhone owner.

While you may be able to figure most of this stuff out, some people may just want the answer on how to do something. That is what this is and it does a good job at that.

This app is worth a dollar so I suggest you don't buy it. It just shows you everything you already know. There's no secrets in here just regular information. I can't believe I bought it

I regret buying this. Do not buy it if u already havent bekuz trust me in here is all the stuff that u would learn from ur fone in a week. There is nothing new here. I wish i could get a refund.

This is an excellent example of a book being present on the exact device you need it for! I've read this book in regular dead tree version, and the content is excellent. But there's always the time you'd like to have it handy when you're playing with the iPhone while waiting in a line or riding the bus. Being able to navigate through the entire content of the book in addition to searching for specific content is perfect.

This app is awesome! I am a big fan of David Pogue. I also own a physical copy of this book. Learning how to use the e-book reader is pretty easy. You can even do keyword searches on the whole book. I hope O'Reilly makes more titles available in the App Store. Thanks!

iPhone: The Missing Manual should be required reading for any iPhone or iPod Touch owner. Not only is it useful and informative (and sprinkled liberally with Pogue's trademark snarky wit) but it also overcomes one of the major appbook handicaps: the issue of being able to read it on something other than the iPhone.

The book has been great--but I wish I would have had it when I bought my iphone. I did learn several things through the book I had not discovered on my own and one allowed me to figure out how to download movies based on the proper code--wow--that alone was SO worth the cost.

If you are expecting to learn something on every page, you will be disappointed. I picked up maybe half a dozen tricks, but they were such time savers that this was worthwhile purchase. There are several chapters that pertain to the iPhone only, which disappointed me as an iPod Touch user who has come to think of "iPhone" as short for "iPhone or iPod Touch." I can't complain given the title, but Touch users should know this. My biggest complaint is that you cannot search the entire book, only the current chapter. Also, the SMS by email service Pogue mentions has been defunct for several months. I'm looking forward to an update.

I picked up the paper version of the iPhone Missing Manual a while ago, and I've found it to be an indispensable resource, albeit a heavy one. Having the book on my iPhone is fantastic, since I always have it with me for reference. And it's a bargain compared to the print book! Kudos to O'Reilly for making it available for download.

I should have listened to other reviewers. This app is unreadable trash. The biggest rip off of all the apps I ever purchased. Do yourself a favor and avoid this puke at all costs. I want my money back!

This is not a typical David Pogue product. I just can't use it. I can't find the index. Search seems useless. Does it cover the original iPhone? How do I get my $9.99 back?

I can't really comment on the content of the book because the reading experience and user interface is so poor.

If the iPhone wasn't so self-explainatory, it would have come with a manual. I purchased it because it advertised to show you cool stuff that you probably didn't know. It turned out to be the incrediably simple stuff (like using your voicemail and texting). Working with iTunes and figureing how to get the apps was the last complicated thing I self-taught myself...and if you can do this...then this app is completely useless to you!! (Extremely pointless, I know.) Untill they quit false-advertising and put up something worth reading (not the self-explainatory bull dokie), they get a bad review from me...which is my first. Needless to say- I WANT A REFUND NOW!!!!!

I am a geek... I build and repair computers as a business. I have read all the reviews for this manual and all I can say is... BUY IT!! I have had my iPhone for a month before I paid my 5 bucks for this and it was money well spent! I usually don't review apps but after the bad rap this manual has gotten, I had to say something. Final Verdict: well worth the money, even advanced users will learn something.

Good info if you have an iPhone and aren't tech savvy. A waste of money if you can already navigate your phone

I purchased this application thinking that it was going to show me things about the iPhone that I didn't know. Listen to me people. If you are not a primate, you all ready know everything that is in this application. Do not buy this! I want my money back!

Not a good way to spend $5. The free messaging doesn't work.

Good solid manual with basic and higherlevel info...if you spend the time read the whole thing. I think some of the nay sayers didn't read far enough.

Wow! What an excellent manual! YOU DESERVE 10 STARS! Got my money's worth in the first few chapters. Really lives up to its name. Just knowing how to save more battery power made my life so much easier. THANKS!

The WOW factor is high on this manual. It has everything I was hoping for and more! Little known tips, facts and shorcuts. I highly recommend this book, it is a must have for all iPhone owners.

Don't think it's worth the $4.99 I paid for it maybe $1.99. Learned a few things I did not know before but not many. Save your money till price drops. You are sure to figure out most of what this guide shows you on your own anyway.

A friend bought a similar item (paper copy) & not the same - this is more convenient. I learned a great deal, in just the first week! I am new to all this iPhone everything . . There needs to be an update come out fast!! When it does get this app,get the update
