December 9, 2010 by James iOSFlashVideo is a rather unique webapp that allows you to play Flash videos from such popular video sites as Megavideo, Vimeo and others on your iOS device. Through your browser and without the need to jailbreak or do anything crazy like that. This will work with any portable iOS device, such as the iPhone, iPad or iTouch (we’re not sure whether anyone tested this on the Apple TV G2 though, which would be an interesting thing to try). Currently supported video sites are Blip.tv, Break, Dailymotion, Flickr Video, MegaVideo and Vimeo, but that list may continue to grow. At the same time below are the instructions to install iFlashVideo on your iPhone (it’s actually really easy). 1. For full Megavideo functionality, first install OPlayer (paid) or OPlayer Lite (free) from the AppStore. 2. Open http://www.iosflashvideo.fw.hu on your iOS Device (iPhone, iPad or iPod) 3. Hit the + button, select Add Bookmark and tap the Save button (here you’ve just created a bookmark to the site) 4. Open your bookmarks by tapping the bookmark icon and press Edit 5. Choose iOSFlashVideo 6. Delete everything before “javascript:” and hit Done 7. Close bookmarks and you are ready Now when you want to watch a Flash video hosted on Blip.tv, Break, Dailymotion, Flickr Video, MegaVideo or Vimeo, it will work in your iOS Safari Mobile browser. November 7, 2010 by Brian It appears that the public release of iOS 4.2 is coming very soon now, as Apple started accepting iPhone / iPad / iPod Touch iOS 4.2 apps into the AppStore. While there’s still not too many apps that support iOS 4.2 there now, they keep arriving. Here’s a few of the apps that are now iOS 4.2 compatible: Overall we’d be willing to bet that iOS 4.2 will be available to download this coming week. If not, we’ll eat our collective shorts. November 6, 2010 by Brian Recently Starbucks launched a new way to pay for your coffee in its New York stores – by using your iPhone. After a successful test pilot of the Starbucks Card iPhone app in Starbucks’ home town of Seattle and in parts of Silicon Valley, the coffee giant started rolling out the service in major cities, starting with New York. The Starbucks Card iPhone app is a pretty nifty concept too – you simply register your real Starbucks customer card with the app, and when it comes to paying for your coffee all you need to do is show your iPhone to the cashier, who will scan the unique barcode from Starbucks Card app and deduct the funds from your account. The best thing is that it actually seems to work very well and actually makes paying for your coffee faster. Check out the video below for a real-life demonstration how you could use your iPhone to pay at Starbucks (via Business Insider). Related posts: Article by Brian My name's Brian, Brian Jones. November 6, 2010 by Brian This week security firm viaForensics revealed that Paypal’s iPhone app contains a severe vulnerability, which could allow unauthorized persons to get full access to your Paypal account. This vulnerability used an exploit in app’s code, which allowed to set up fake Paypal sites and intercept users’ login credentials over unsecured WiFi networks. Paypal quickly patched this exploit and the latest version of Paypal iPhone app (AppStore) should now be safe to use. So if you do use the Paypal app it’s crucial that you update it now. However, what if you’ve been affected by this problem, say someone did steal your login information and cleaned out your Paypal account? Well, thankfully Paypal promised to take full responsibility for whatever might have happened while the exploit was active and promises to refund all those whose accounts were affected. November 6, 2010 by Brian Earlier this week the much anticipated SkyFire Flash videos-enabled mobile browser for iPhone was launched, then pulled from the AppStore. The reason for that was that SkyFire’s technology does not actually play Flash videos in your browser, but rather first converts them into an iPhone compatible format. Their servers simply got overloaded and they’ve decided to take the app offline until they’ve upgraded their network infrastructure. Now SkyFire appears to be back and is currently available to download from the AppStore, still at the same introductory price of $2.99. Related posts: Article by Brian My name's Brian, Brian Jones. November 5, 2010 by Brian It’s reported that the new iOS 4.2 features full blown support for MIDI devices both via wired and wireless connection. The feature is available for all iPhones, iPads and iTouch devices running iOS 4.2 and utilizes either WiFi for wireless connections or the Camera Connection Kit for USB output. This will certainly benefit the professional musicians who so far resorted to MIDI sim apps for their idevices. And Apple is once again opening another potentially huge niche for itself with the addition of this MIDI feature. Check out the video below for a demonstration on how this will work with the iPad and Pianist Pro app. Related posts: Article by Brian My name's Brian, Brian Jones. November 3, 2010 by Brian Phone World’s mobile iPhone / iTouch site version is now back online. iPhoneWorld.ca’s iPhone / iTouch site version is displayed automatically when you visit the site via your iPhone or iTouch (as well as via some BlackBerry and Android smartphone types). Using iPhoneWorld’s iPhone optimized site version you’ll be able to easily read the latest news, access all relevant pages and categories, search the site and more. The purpose of the mobile site version is to cut down on the amount of data your mobile device is downloading when using wireless internet – the mobile iPhone World site version takes around 1/5 the size of the regular version and as such it loads much faster. However, you can always switch to the full site version by scrolling down to the bottom of the mobile site version and selecting to see the full site version.
