Iron Horse Review: A Game Made of Steel
Calendar16 Mon, 21 Jun 2010 05:43:30 UTC +00:00
Iron Horse is a simple, yet amazing kind of new action/puzzler. Trains really are an excellent personification that the iPhone needs more of. Mr. Conductor, this is your iron horse, you must guide it and all it’s cargo to your destination? Will you make it? That’s up to you and your reflexes. Read on. Presentation Iron Horse is an 18th century reference in and of itself – comparing trains to horses. This game exemplifies that in many ways, but in a far more effective and addictive way. You take strings of cargo down the tracks, adding more and more manually as you go along, in a game of speed and timing. This is done so simply, and in such beautiful graphics and animations, that it becomes far more realistic. Everything from the smoke billowing from the train to the appearance of the train and tracks. This is also done with simple Read More

Published: May 22, 2010 Comment         Now, don’t get too excited… this is not an action game featuring a horse in a super battle suit! Similarly, don’t too skeptical when I tell you this is a game about trains. A subject that will put even the msot hardened insomniac to sleep. Because, at it’s core, The Iron Horse is a solid reaction game that begs to be replayed again and again. The premise is as simple as it gets. You begin with a locomotive engine, and as you move along the tracks you must connect carriage cars lying stationary in a siding. As you move past the carriage a broken link appears on both the end of your engine, and the front of the carriage. To connect the two you must tap the screen when the two icons align. It’s not necessary to have a perfect connection to successfully connect Read More

David Crane is the founder of Activision, which is currently the 800-lb gorilla of video gaming; it's a huge company with the biggest releases in the world. However, the industry pioneer is getting back to the small stuff. Along with partner Gerry Kitchen, he's started up AppStar Games, and they are working on much smaller titles for the iPhone and iPod touch. Their first title is The Iron Horse for iPhone and iPad, and while it is super simple, the game's metaphor and surprisingly strong atmosphere make it a pretty effective title. It's about trains (which in and of itself probably appeals to a few of us), and the goal is to hook up train cars to a train as it's moving by tapping on hooks at exactly the right time. The gameplay's simple: you just tap on the hooks when they line up about every five seconds or so. The Read More

This Friday, we bring you yet another sweet helping of new app releases. Once again, it’s Friday. Phew. Aren’t you all glad that the week is over? I’m certainly relieved to get a breather, and what better way to celebrate with a smattering of interesting app releases from the previous week? Ninjatown: Trees of Doom Do you like ninjas? Cute things? If so, Ninjatown: Trees of Doom should suit your tastes. It’s a climbing game set in a vivid 2D world, filled with lush and vibrant artwork. You climb and fly and fling your way through the treetops in an attempt to impress the elder ninjas. This isn’t the Ninjatown game from the DS, but the style is the same, the tempo is fast, and the production values are high. How high can you climb? $1.99 Released: 2010-05-05 :: Category: Games Flick Baseball Pro Freeverse’s Flick series is almost legendary. Flick Read More

This is a great game - simple and fun. The graphics are nice, with great colors and variety of settings and train types. My grandson will love it - grandparents ought to get this for their grandkids to keep them busy! There is plenty of variety and the speed tests eye-hand coordination. Looking forward to more games from this company!
Great if meant to put you to sleep

bigrand1 1.0 stars Version: 1.0
All you do is just tap the screen once when the train gets even with the little bracket to add another car and it speeds up every time you do until you miss a couple of times and it's game over!! Wow!!!! The graphics look good, but there's nothing to it. Don't bother.....
Great App!

Thank you for making a true train game! Sounds and senery are excellent!!!! The 3-d effect is great as well. I live the different types if trains. On the update let's allow them to go north south as well if at all possible. Thanks I have been waiting for this one!!! I don't care about what the other apps say, it's just good darn fun!
Could become a classic
ChaosProphecy 4.0 stars Version: 1.0
This is a couple of extra game modes away from being a classic. The trains are done well and there appears to be several of them. Hopefully this will get nice updates. Some suggestions for possible new additions. -more trains. -more environments (these are nice too). -A collectors sandbox type mode where you can run the trains after unlocking them in a sort of collection. Possibly after buying them with the accumulating points in your score? Perhaps this mode could let you run your train between stations or environments as long as you want by increasing the speed of your train with finger pressing on the screen and slowing by removing your finger. -A info section possibly providing a few facts about each train. It's a great start with a lot of potential too. .
