Microsoft's latest iOS app: Kinectimals
Calendar16 Fri, 16 Dec 2011 18:12:32 UTC +00:00
If you think this little guy looks cute here, you should see him frolic around your screen. "Game" might not be the right word. Kinectimals simulates adopting and playing with a tiger cub (your choice of five breeds at the beginning, with five more you can unlock). Target audience: 3-year-olds. OK, slightly older kids might enjoy this as well, but Kinectimals is so simplistic that I think anyone over the age of 7 is likely to lose interest pretty quickly. That's not to say this Tamogotchi-style experience is bad, because it's not. Rather, it's cute as the dickens, with frisky tiger cubs who jump and coo and catch (or at least paw at) tennis balls. Soothing new-agey music plays in the background. For the first few minutes, it's not immediately obvious what you're supposed to do with your cub. If you tap him, the camera zooms in and lets you "pet" Read More

Last week, to everyone’s surprise, Microsoft released an iOS version of My Xbox Live which was one of the first steps to finally supporting the iOS platform instead of keeping their apps exclusive to the not as popular Windows Phone 7. It looks like the iOS love is continuing as the company is making its family-friendly Kinect title, Kinectimals, available on iOS today. Kinectimals for iOS brings the Xbox 360 experience of visiting the island of Lemuria to our iOS device as you can raise your own virtual cubs. If you’ve played the Xbox 360 version of Kinectimals, the iOS version will seem very familiar to you as you’ll choose your cub, name him, and then take care of him by participating in a number of mini-games and interact with your pet by touching the screen. Kinectimals for iOS also allows for the ability to unlock five new cubs for your console Read More
Microsoft is turning out to be quite the iOS developer. Earlier this month, the company released an Xbox Live app for the iPhone. On Monday, the company announced OneNote for the iPad and Lync for the iPhone. Today, Redmond announced iPhone versions of both Kinectimals and its SkyDrive online storage service. That’s on top of an existing stable of apps that includes Bing, Photosynth and Windows Live Messenger. While most of Microsoft’s iOS apps are free connections to existing services, the company is charging $2.99 for Kinectimals. As I noted earlier this week, Microsoft has long faced the challenge of wanting to support its own mobile operating system, while also acknowledging that it is not the epicenter of the phone universe. The company still reserves some of its most extensive work for Windows Phone, which offers mobile versions of the full Office suite as well as a deeper Xbox Live connection Read More
'Kinectimals' Comes To iOS
Calendar16 Tue, 13 Dec 2011 16:46:14 UTC +00:00
Microsoft, via Xbox Live evangelist Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb, has just announced the immediate release of another surprising App Store app -- though this one, Kinectimals [$2.99], is a game and not a companion piece, as was the case with My Xbox Live. This version of Kinectimals seems like it's pretty close to the Kinect experience that it's based on, though we've also heard that it's strikingly similar to the Windows 7 mobile version of the game, too. In a nutshell, it's just a collection of mini-games starring several super cute cats that you can train to do tricks or participate in a wide range of not-necessarily-stimulating-for-adults activities. Of note, this version, developed by Frontier Developments as well, incorporates "brand new ways to play with your cub" and offers an unlock for five additional cats on the Xbox 360. We'll be playing with this throughout the day, and will bring you Read More
Kinectimals llega a iPhone y iPad por sorpresa
Calendar16 Tue, 13 Dec 2011 17:54:04 UTC +00:00

I just bought this game hoping to have a pet grizzly. I don't know of you will be able to unlock it or if bears will be added as paid content.
Pretty impressed

I'm impressed that Microsoft released this game on iOS and that the price is pretty low for the quality of game you get. I played this game with my daughter for about 20 minutes and she loves it. It's kind of like nintendogs but better in my opinion. My only complaint is the load times though I only have the original IPAD.
Good for the price, but not the same as kinect game

For 3 bucks, this is a great kids game with beautiful visuals and simple, yet fun play. Good for kids 3 and up.I was hoping it'd have more of a story line like the kinect version, but it's simply a game of petting, grooming, and playing with your cat, with different challenges (jump rope, ball catch, etc.) in a few different settings (forrest, beach, etc.)My 2 year old loves petting her tiger cub and giving it sponge bubble baths. Good app.
What a great surprise!

Between this, Infinity Blade II and Batman Arkham City Lockdown, this is a great week for console-quality iOS games. On my iPhone 4S, this looks stunning and works without a hitch. If you're having crashes, try a device restart, or failing that, delete and reinstall. That fixes a lot of issues with apps on my iPad.I can't wait to see what I unlock for the Xbox 360 version of the game, it's been gathering dust for a while. The mini games in this seem like they'll keep me going on the train for a while.
Love it and love the cubs

Smooth.

Kudos to Microsoft for bringing this to iOS! From the description, it seems that getting this can unlock content on the Xbox 360. Thank you for rewarding people whom buy your products instead of punishing them for not buying *only* your products.
iOS + Xbox = WINNING!
Johnathon Garceau 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
I like this trend! Let's see ilomilo on the iPhone with local and online play! My two favorite gaming devices! Next up will be peace in the Middle East...
Good app but....
robmcclellan 3.0 stars Version: 1.0
I got this on the iPad and went to load it up on the iPhone only to find that they want me to by it again! Where is the universal app!?!? It runs almost exactly the same on both. Looks like Microsoft companies love getting every penny out of our checkbooks.
