The way it augments data into the camera’s view of the world is similar to Wikitude. You select a ‘layer’ to add to your camera and this will display the points of interest. The layers include accommodation, entertainment and lots more. Some layers are paid-for, but most are free. In a similar vein to Wikitude, the layers are created by third parties and other uses, so this is a service that is heavily dependent on outside contributions. On the whole, these layers seem better designed and more reliable than the ‘worlds’ of Wikitude. Android has an augmented reality. I had no idea exactly what that meant today, but Layar, “the first mobile Augmented Reality browser,” did a good job of drawing me in to find out. Layar adds real-time information about locations and points of interest on a user’s phone. Combining Android’s camera, GPS, and compass functions, it automatically detects what direction someone is facing and provides an alternate layer of information about his or her surroundings. Display is wrong, major flaws On my Acer Iconia TAB A500, the view occupies half the screen, and the picture's smashed. Tilting the device causes menus to tilt 90 degrees more, it's as if the entire App is off by 90 degrees counter-clockwise. I will not attempt to do anything else with it. Uninstalled.

Mostly pointless...there are maybe 2 or 3 interesting or helpful layers out of thousands. The few good layers is what makes this app worth 3 stars. And more than most of the layers are just a waste of space. This app didn't come on my phone like most ppl with negative reviews I downloaded it cuz I thought it sounded like a more advanced google goggles but it was nothing what I pictured from the description, I guess after trying the app I understand what the description was trying to say but this app is so all over the place there's no good way to explain it.

Great app but it's hard for businesses to make their own layar image and isn't just as simple as making a scan image and then an outcome image. Instead, you have to go through lots of files and configure them all with code. Would be 5 star if you could add a feature that allows you to make a "Simple" layar image though you should still be able to make advanced ones too. The simple mode would be just upload an image that someone has to scan and then 1 outcome which could lead to other outcomes. Hope you can add this!

Completely crap..makes the phone to force restart when i start app...then it takes ages to load system and all other apps/widgets...! UNINSTALLED! Don't download, it may harm your phone!

I just do not understand the reason why this app requires access to your phone calls log and other private stuff on your phoe to 'operate'. Why do we have to give up our privacy to use it? Uninstalled now (if you can)

Nearly every plug-in tells me there is no data available for my location. Only thing I've had work is restaurants and I can get that from my navigation. But I cannot uninstall so it simply takes up damned space on my phone.

What does it even do? I haven't seen a layers logo anywhere. I don't and wont ever use it so why can't I totally uninstall it. I don't ever want to update it again.
