The attack famously thrust the United States into World War II. Having noticed the Life magazine apps were updated today, I thought it would be fitting to download the iPad version and review some of the images from “the day that would live in infamy.” Not only was I not disappointed by the app’s slideshow of the event, I was impressed by the various collections of images and the astounding range of emotions the slideshows imparted. The editors have appropriately injected pathos and humor to every imaginable aspect of the human experience. In a world where everyone and their mama have an iPhone app, we still get surprised to see some big name company joining the bandwagon so late. Life.com, a web arm of the Life Magazine, is such an example which just announced their iBaby. I don’t want to bash them too much, after all they’re out now – and that’s important. A warning to any of the easily-offended people who recently pressured Apple into removing thousands of apps featuring women in bikinis from the iTunes store: This app is EVEN MORE OFFENSIVE, as it displays ACTUAL FEMALE NUDITY! Sure, it appears in a historical context, such as a photo essay remembering the 1969 Woodstock Festival, but still -- actual NAKED LADIES! On iPhones everywhere! Men will leer! Children will be corrupted! Meanwhile, if you happen to be a normal, well-adjusted person who can handle controversial images without bursting into fits of censorious outrage, this app offers a glimpse into the vast Life Magazine photo library, from the past to the present. Entertaining and educational, whether you have just a few minutes to spare or hours to spend.
