March 03, 2010 Douglas App Store, Live Cams, utilities Live Cams is one of the few apps that make it right on the front page of my iPhone. I’ll tell you the reason right up front before the entire review. I only use a few of their features but there are many more. So why is it on my front page? Because when opening the app, I can customize it to show thumbnails of the camera’s I’ve added myself. I’ve got it set to show 8 cameras all at once, then I tap on a camera to see it full screen. It's a problem worthy of an episode of Intervention. Yes, I'm ashamed to admit that my wife is addicted to the Live Cams app on her iPhone. It all started when she was searching for new apps in the App Store, and she noticed a little app called Live Cams [US$0.99, iTunes Link]. It sounded innocuous enough -- the app provides a way to search, browse, view, and in some cases, control live web cams all over the planet. Live Cams is an application for the iPhone & iPod Touch that allows you to view live webcam feeds from around the world. Not only can you view the live video, but you can control the camera's viewpoint by panning, tilting and zooming. While the concept is great, the app isn't as exciting as it sounds. The app opens up with a list of public cameras ready for viewing. They are listed in categories such as animals, beaches, and popular. I buy APPS for simplicity not frustration; and after 3 hours of trying to load axis cameras off the links on the web site I have yet to pull up a picture. I would love to be able to control a camera from my phone, but I don't feel like wasting any more time tring to even get a damned camera on it. For $2 you shouldn't have to do this much leg work. Considering for 2 more you can just buy World View. Please make it easier to link the Axis cameras And I will give it another shot along with this review.

I own numerous other cam apps and none of them come anywhere close to the live video performance of this app. I can't understand how most of the camera apps struggle to display still JPEGs and this displays live video consistently, with no freezing or drop-outs. It badly needs to eliminate the top bar to maximize screen area in full screen and I know more cams are coming. Hope for an easier add-your-own links en masse from HTML procedure. If you buy one camera app, this is the one. If you buy six, you've got a problem mister.

Half the cams don't load (most of the good-sounding ones!). There's a lot more to choose from than the lite version but same issue with only the same ones actually loading. Would be cook to know where some of these are broadcasting from that are vaguely labeled. Also, why 20 cams for traffic in Murfreesboro TN, seriously? The pan and tilt option on some cams is a great feature. Also should be able to send feedback to people broadcasting- I want toknow why no one plays with the dogs at Doggy Day Care. Coolest cam is Clearwater Aquarium with dolphins! Can't wait for updates and cameras to load that never have.

Setting up cameras never seems to be an easy task. That's why I was very pleased that the developer was so quick to respond to my questions and to always get back to me offering further help. Turns out that my problems were with a poor/weak signal strength on the phone causing the connection to time out, and not the program itself. I am looking forward to further enhancements and would definitely encourage those interested to try, at least, the free version as I am sure you will end up paying the small amount asked for the full version. Sure beats $10 up to several hundred dollars for the competition which give you little more.

I have tried most of the cam apps. I think this is the most advanced of them all. Being able to control axis cams is lots of fun. If you added more open cams or an easier way to find and add open cams this would be the cam app to have and I think more people would be willing to fork over the money your asking for this app. It is the best cam app but with all the bad reviews I debated this one for quite some time. More open cams in the app, more positive reviews, and this would sell like crazy.

I took a chance and purchased this app even though it won't work with my personal webcams until the new version is released. I rated it with 3 stars because I have played with the software using some of the publically available webcams out there. This app works beautifully! I will gladly update my review when the new version is released that will "supposedly" work with my Panasonic network cameras.

I have several Axis cameras in my home and at customer locations. In all, about 40 Axis cameras. Setup in general is simple. However, there are times you have to choose a different camera type when adding to make the camera work. When it is finally adds, it works fine. For instance, some of my cameras are Axis 207W's. Half will only work if you choose the "axis 2100" type when adding. Oddly enough, they are all the same with the same firmware.

No way these could all be live and half of them do not work.

There is no way that these cameras are all live cameras. Is it really daytime in Italy, Hawaii, California, and Alabama all at once? I think not. These videos are faked and half of the cameras don't work. Also, I don't believe it's possible for all the users to be able to control the cameras because many users on one camera would have conflicting controls. It's a trick - it must all be coming from a larger image that is zoomed in that allows users to move around within a stagnant frame. Don't lie to your users.

I like this app. I cant comment on the personal cam part because i use a ipod touch which doesnt have a camera. But for looking at other places around the globe it works as intended. Of course many are offline but thats how webcams have always been. Not the fault of the makers of this app. My concern is, will the makers keep up with it? If anyone has looked at and bookmarked live cams on the web with their home PCs before, then you know webcams change addys constantly. 2 months from now most of the cams in this app will have a new url. So fairly consistent updates will be needed.

This app is lots of fun. The developer has already linked to many, many webcams all across the world. It's amazing to have so many options of live video sources all in one place. Additionally, you have the option to connect to specific webcams if you know the IP address and password. I was able to program in my two personal webcams with ease. This app works great on WiFi and 3G. It's well worth the full asking price.

Quits frequently, even after the latest update. When it doesn't quit, it is interesting to see what kinds of cameras exist in the world -- why would they let people control them? what's the point of having a camera that distant strangers can control? -- and it's fun to watch for a little while, but if tha's your only purpose for thsi app, then it will get old quickly. If you have your own cameras to add, then it makes more sense.
