Livestand from Yahoo!
Calendar16 Sat, 07 Jan 2012 21:55:17 UTC +00:00
Livestand from Yahoo! is a bit more than just a newsreader app for your iPad. It’s an elegant way of having everything you want to know each day in one place on your iPad. With Livestand, news reading feels so simple and seamless that you would swear you’re playing a game instead of leafing through current events all with the decorum of the corner coffee shop merged with the layout of a serious news magazine. This is not just the cousin of the traditional newspaper; it’s its high class hipster nephew in a business suit networked with a dozen of his co-workers. From the moment this application loads, it shows that a large amount of effort was put into streamlining and usability. Getting around within Livestand is further simplified by a hefty amount of tutorial prompts for the first time user while browsing through articles and feed lists. All the features Read More

Calendar16 Sun, 06 Nov 2011 15:00:14 UTC +00:00
Yahoo was once the most visited web portal on the internet, but it has had a rough last couple of years. In an industry where companies are transitioning into the mobile arena at breakneck speeds, Yahoo has struggled to stay relevant. But that doesn’t mean it’s not trying. Yahoo recently unveiled several new mobile applications at its Product Runway event. There were a couple of notable titles, but the star of the show had to be the Flipboard-like app for the iPad, Livestand… Here’s an excerpt from its App Store description: “Livestand is your living magazine app, where the news and stories you care about come to life with visually stunning photos and videos. Livestand from Yahoo! adds a slick magazine for iPad
Calendar16 Thu, 03 Nov 2011 02:00:00 UTC +00:00
Livestand was released for iPad today and I have to say it is pretty impressive. The free app strives to provide you with a personalized magazine drawn from Yahoo! and other content sources like Scientific American, Consumer Reports News, Wired, Forbes, and Parenting. The onscreen presentation is very strong, with bold graphics and a very nice design sense. Weather is local, and the app automatically finds your location. The app supports profiles, and up to 4 users can access their own mix of news on the app. To start up from scratch, the app would like your Yahoo! ID, or your Facebook login to help seed the app with your interests. You can skip this if you want to, and just tell the app what kind of content you like. News seems to be constantly updated, and that includes stock feeds and Twitter updates. In the short time I used it, Read More

Mike Wexler 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.41
Livestand reminds me of Apple products with its well-crafted, but uncluttered look it is a joy to look at. It contains a great collection of up to date content including both the normal Yahoo favorites such as sports, finance, news and entertainment and a collection of enthusiast publications. I can't wait to see what new publications are added over the next week.

I really REALLY like the idea of being able to integrate my content like this -- being able to set up a personalized news stream is great!. I do like news, but I've often find it has irrelevant topics and this is going to let me get just what I want.
Elegant app, with lots of free content - well done Yahoo!

jjayants 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.41
Love this app. Besides being beautifully designed, its innovative & executes on Yahoo!'s core strength, its content, perfectly. It has just the right amount of playfulness, it's super responsive and an absolute delight to explore through all the different visual elements, transitions and publications. Even the ad's are a pleasure to look at. My only request would be for you to add an alarm clock to this thing, so I can wake up with it! Nevertheless, excellent work Yahoo! - I love browsing through it as I eat my cocoa puffs in the morning! Really looking forward to more publisher content and continued innovation. Keep it up!
beautiful app
