Fun but not an instrument

I love playing with this app, but it would become a true instrument if you made 3 tweaks. 1. Ability to change the scale 2. Ability to change the number of Columns in playback 3. Ability to change sounds, even if slightly. And if you REALLY want to have a PRO app allow this to control midi over wifi :)

Not enough options no other sounds are available. Riff is way too short to allow creativity. It's like trying to make music with the numbers on your phone. This needs major updates.

I swear there's something exactly like this on the Homebrew App Viewer for the Homebrew Channel (Haxxorred Wiis only). Either way, nice app, though I would LOVE a .midi exporter. I'ma follow these peeps on Twitter while I wait for their updates.

My whole family loves this app. I can't get my iPhone back sometimes. I would love to be able to manipulate time signature - 9/8 and 12/8 would be so cool. Instead of 3 divisions of each beat though, six would open up some incredible possibilities, including African drumming rhythms. That would mean 24 columns in 12/8 - don't know if it's possible to get the boxes that small and still be able to tap them accurately. At any rate, it's an incredibly fun app!

My Favorite App

This is the best thing out for the ipod. You have no idea how much it made me smile to hear my little composition come to life and proceed to become more and more complex. Keep up the amazing work! Just one suggestion; it would be so cool if you could make longer, scrolling songs. Imagine an entire song compsed with this program!

I really enjoy this app, it's fun, easy to use and pretty self explanatory... Everybody knows if u have an iPhone people always want to see it and check out all your apps, which becomes bothersome when ppl need you to explain how an app works, but with Melodica no more explaining... this app is such a simple device my 8 yr old brother enjoys it. The best part being I never had to show him how to use it... The only thing I'd request on an update of this app is that you could down load it to ur computer or go through setting and use one of your saved melodies as a ringtone, then it would be perfect...

As someone who actually owns a Tenori-on, this is no Tenori-on. However it's also not $1000. Would be nice if you could pick other sounds. This has only one sound, one block, and one layer to work with. The real TO has 256 sounds, 16 blocks, and 16 layers with more composition options than just the score mode offered here. There's room for a lot of improvement. Here's hoping they add more features, otherwise you can skip this.

Ok app, but TonePad is free

Try TonePad. It's exactly the same kind of app, but with two differences: 1- it's free 2- you can upload an share your creations I hope future updates will clearly create a difference that will make it OK to pay for it.

Interface is great for people with little music experience. Needs bpm settings insead of slow med fast. Also needs key settings. Note tie and velocity would be cool.

Whether you like music or not, I think everyone should buy this app! I can play this thing for hours trying to create cool new melodies. I love the new save feature too! I think it would be cool if we could somehow make longer songs and then be able to have them as mp3s, but right now this app is awesome as is. Definately worth the price! This thing is addicting!

It's 3:30AM, and I'm still wide awake all because of this oh-so-brillant app. I've NEVER gotten so deeply involved with anything on my iPhone before. As close to time travel as I'll ever get I suppose, I simply lost 4 hours, and didn't notice one tiny bit. That's just scary. I have around 500 apps, tried them all, gave them each a fighting chance. Until tonight, Fieldrunners held the #1slot. It has been one out of a select handful that put me in the "zone" consistantly--every time I played it. However, I have just discovered an unused section of my brain with this Melodica and the rest have been de-throned! I can't describe how it feels to use this app, I'm just not that good with words. But I will say this: THIS APP HAS CHANGED EVERYTHING!!!!!  Now, I can sleep. 

Melodica was impressive before, but with the latest update it's nearly flawless. The long loading time is gone, there's a save feature with a nifty preview, and an expanded set of options for controlling the music. And the tone matrix itself works beautifully --smooth, responsive, just perfect. This app is an excellent and relaxing timewaster -- I've got no complaints!

I'd been wanting a tenori-on for years, and this is a good deal of that fun for $1,199 less. I'm looking forward to the updates for tempo control. (would also love alternate scales, and a selectable matrix size... 16, 12, etc. )

I'd never heard of Tone Matrix or Tenori-on before I downloaded this app. Needless to say, I was blown away the first time I used it! This is by far one of the coolest apps on my touch. You won't regret the purchase. I immediately thought that these sound creations would make unique ring tones. Maybe in a future update. Love this app. Great job!

Does exactly what it should, far better than the other Tone Matrix apps out there. The easy music-making is ideal for idle timepassing. My only complaint is that it takes awhile to get through all the splash screens -- the developer logo, a "designed for headphones" notice (why?), and the app logo, all unskippable. But it's definitely worth the wait.

Very entertaining! I showed my wife this and her initial reaction was "what is it?" After about 30 seconds, she was grinning ear-to-ear & couldn't put it down for half an hour. This is a steal at the $0.99 intro price. Get it!

I love this app, but I have some suggestions. 1. Tempo control 2. Wav export 3. Synth sound edit 4. Effects (delay, reverb, distortion) 5. Multi tracks I really do think its an awesome app. Keep the updates coming.

I love the idea of a Tenori-on on my iPod Touch. This is one step towards it, That is, one sound and one sequence. This component does work well though. Nice and fast and smooth. However even at 99c it needs a lot more to get interesting. On my list

This is a fun app to make music with. Very addictive. Beautiful sounds that loop a melody you create in realtime. I look forward to future releases that support speed control and the ability to record, save, and export your tracks. A timer would be great as well as some options for visual effects. A great music app.

The first thing I noticed about Melodica is how easy it is to make something that sounds cool. There really isn't much more to say in a review than that: it's easy to make cool music, it looks and sounds great, and it's more than worth the current $1 price point. I did notice one minor bug, where the audio messes up a bit (which is kind of a big deal in an app that's all about the audio), but it only seemed to happen with several notes in a single column.

Finally a Tone Matrix done properly! It is even better than original thing from web: visuals are better and tempo is more relaxed. I don't know how they do it, but any melody I punch in, sounds cool :) My new favorite music entertainment app! :)

I saw the teaser video so was looking forward to this before it even came out .... its a suprisingly polished little app for a first release. I find the sound is awesome with headphones (the iphone's speakers don't do it justice). And i never knew I was such a great composer! :) Thanks Candycane for a great little app

I have been waiting for this app for so long and now thatcits finally here, my life is complete! Well, I suppose that's a BIT exaggerated, but I have nothing but good to say about this app. It has a beautiful interface, stunning animation, and ever-so-simple controls (try, a touch!), and provides an innovative way to create melodies and beats. If this app isn't number 1 on the top paid, then people are definitely out of their minds. Congratulations, CandyCane, because you just created the best app on the app store!!!

This little app is amazing, after trying the other options available on the appstore, finally one tonematrix that actually works and sounds well! I just want to be able to export my melodies to a wav or mp3 file, but the developers already said on twitter that they will add saving features in the next update. Get this, you will not regret it :).
