Opera Software announced on Wednesday that they're going to offer a sneak peek of their Opera Mini web browser for the iPhone during Mobile World Congress 2010 (MWC). Several features of the Mac-based Opera will be included, like tabs, Speed Dial and the password manager, says Opera co-founder Jon von Tetzchner. He also mentioned his app's compression technology that will make browsing fast and reduce data surcharges. For more details than that, we'll have to wait until the cat has been let out of the bag. Recently iLegendSoft updated two apps that I have recently reviewed “ Gmail Push and their Mercury Browser. Of those two, one is a worthy upgrade, and the other I had deleted before the day was over so I could reinstall the older version. First, the good news: Gmail Push has more than just a cosmetic update with a new, yet slightly unflattering, icon. These major changes include: Now the bad news: Mercury Browser 2.0 didn ‘t even make it a full day on my iPhone before being removed. As much as I like having access to the web through the iPhone, and I wonder whose brilliant idea it was to set up Safari to hijack as much real estate on the screen as it does. Why do I need to see the address window while navigating the web when space is limited to the dimensions offered by the touch screen? Do you realize the percentage of space at both the top and bottom that are eliminated by the address bar and navigation buttons? I didn’t, but someone did; and that developer is iLegendSoft with their Mercury Web Browser. There are multiple advantages to this awesome mobile browser. Thank u dev for making this free. Great alternative to safari with its firefoxy look, easily switchable fullscreen that doesn't require a shake, and fast page rendering with compress option turned on. This only things preventing this from getting five stars is the lack of open in new tab option for links and a maximum of six tabs (safari allows eight). However, apple probably set those limits on this app so that it won't be better than safari in every aspect.

Last Update: After using it longer I retract my earlier complaints, listed below. This browser is super fast. That more than makes up for not having all the bells and whistles that the bloated competing browsers have. Mercury browser is just a tiny fraction of the size of the other browsers. As they say, "no code is faster than no code". Update, there is one more major flaw in this otherwise fantastic browser. You cannot turn off cookies without turning off the history, and you cannot have it automatically delete cookies at exit. I have all the most popular browsers both paid and free. This my new favorite. The only flaw (and it is a major one) is that it cannot remember usernames and passwords. It is very easy to use. The tabs work great and they allow you to see the whole screen, or show the tabs without blocking part of the website. It is a very fast browser.

1. I have opened window. Now i deside to go to another site. I press green 'down' arrow and address bar is shown. Then i decided to stay at current site but i can't hide address bar. I have to refresh page or enter URL and 'Go'. 2. Sometimes in landscape mode scroll bar is shown in the middle of screen. 3. It would be great if there was something like lil' progress bar to see how much of webpage is loaded. Anyway browser is AWESOME. These lil' buttons are great. Saving pages or files (I save .pdf books) is great. And it's free!

very good browser-- it's functionality and speed beat many other full screen browsers. that being said, there are a few areas it can improve... 1. save pictures directly to iphone. not sure where the downloads go, but pictures downloaded don't appear on in my photo library as they should.. 2. "real" full screen by shaking the device to hide icons. otherwise I'm still losing real estate on my screen. it doesn't need to be a default setting, but would be nice. 3. minor browsing issues like lost history and remembering passwords should be addresses. if these three things were taken care of, this would easily be my default browser. but it's a great app for anybody looking for a safari alternative..
