Meteor Blitz HD is an asteroids-type game that basically takes the formula of dodge and shoot originally found in the game Asteroids and puts it on the iPad. With the release of games like Geometry Wars, there was definitely some stiff competition in the arcade shooter genre. Meteor Blitz for the iPhone redefined our expectations for the Asteroid-style game by integrating some extremely tight controls mixed with addicting gameplay. The game felt ridiculously smooth and that feature has been brought over to the iPad. The game runs extremely well with no lag at all and no load times. While it may have been tough to fully control the ship in Geometry Wars, Meteor Blitz HD have kept there controls for this version as well. The graphics in the game are extremely clear (except for the menus) rendering the asteroids and ships in great detail. The overall game hasn't changed at all Read More
Editor-in-Chief, iLounge Published: Thursday, June 10, 2010 Category: iPod, iPhone, and iPad Gems: Apps, Games + More Welcome to this week’s edition of iPhone + iPad Gems! Today, we look at six recent releases that vary from iPad-only to iPhone, iPod, and iPad compatible, including three edutainment apps for kids and three games. With the exception of one of the titles, either the app or the developer will be familiar to readers of past Gems columns, and the genres are all ones we’ve explored at least a little in earlier releases. Our top pick of the bunch is Drawing Pad. Read on for all the details. Edutainment: Drawing Pad + Poke Me!/Poke Me! HD If there’s anything to criticize in Darren Murtha Design’s iPad art application for kids—and there’s not much, really—it’s that Drawing Pad ($2) doesn’t automatically save the last piece of art created with its tools, starting every fresh Read More

Say hello geometry wars!!!

Or good bye. And I know it's actually like superstardust HD for the psp, but I just wanted to take a shot at what is a disgusting show of poor development by a big time dev. Meteor blitz HD is officially the best duel stick arena shooter for the iPad. Geometry wars touch or whatever it was called, is probably the worst I have played yet. But to this game, everything is clutch, Ds's have arrived on the iPad and it is a work of art, at least MBHD is. It looks and runs beautiful. I just have to thank the dev for taking time to make a functional HD game with no hiccups. Every single "HD" title from the big boys seems half hazard in some aspect of or another, slow frame rate, sticky controls, can't play your own music for pete's sake!!! Etc. Well I hope activation and the rest of the good for nothing money grubbing big companies take a close look at this game, "THIS IS WHAT HUMANS CALL A QUALITY GAME" and I say all the big name devs should look at how this game loosely( regardless of genre) because for a DSS to play correctly the controls have to be extremely precise more so than controls for almost any other genre, alley labs has done a magnificent job of developing a more than awesome duel stick for the iPad, if you had it on the iPhone "and I rarely say this" delete it and buy the HD version. No there is no new content, but just like real racing, they didn't spit on the iPhone version wipe it off with a dirty old rag and call it HD. They took the time to actually play the game, more less polish the living bejesus out of it, so not only do you get a beautiful game, but one you can actually play with the same precision and fluidity as the iPhone version. For those of you wondering about the feel when handling the iPad, it felt as natural as the iPhone IMO, but keep in mind for the life of me I don't see how ppl think the iPad is to heavy, someone said their arms hurt after playing real racing for awhile? Ok. But to me aside from sigma and and land air and sea warfare, both of which aren't even HD titles more less even universal, and only because I've played real racing to death, this is the best thing going for the iPad to date, so if you consider yourself more than a casual gamer, return your iPad if you don't get this game.
Awesome!

Really liked the iPhone version.....LOVE the HD/iPad version. I downloaded it last night and played it until my battery almost died. Very nice graphics and nice controls. Keep up the great work!

1. The new location of the controls is horrible. You better have large hands when playing this game. It's ok for me but my little girl can't play at all even though she plays the iPhone version on my iPad just fine. My hands cramp up bad when playing even for a little while. ***I'm told the controls will be movable in a future update. 2. The graphics are under par for an iPad app. When you compare the graphics on the iPhone version, these new graphics just don't add up. They didn't even try. The graphics look pixilated and blocky. It's possible the pixel doubling on my iPad is giving me an effect that was unexpected from the developers and it simply looks better to me. 3. The new tap to boost keeps going off when I don't want it to. ***I'm told a separate button for boost will be added in a future update. 4. For some reason the rings seem harder to collect. I cant seem to collect nearly as much as I can on the iPhone version. For now I'm going back to the iPhone version on my iPad. Once they update this new version with the changes I'll revisit it and update my review at that time. A big thanks to Hubert (Lead Developer) for getting back to me immediately to address my issues and fixing one of them right away (now omitted from this review). That would be the highest level of support I have ever received from any software company.
Stunning!

The graphics on this game are absolutely STUNNING! It's clear that they took the effort to upgrade the textures and particle effects for the HD version, and it looks absolutely amazing on the iPad! Controls were perfect. I was a little worried about playing a dual stick shooter on the iPad, but I was able to make it to the 3rd world on my first game! Framerate is super smooth, even with hundreds of enemies on the screen and all the great particle effects! A must buy at this price!!
