-The New York Times' David Pogue
What's that song? Hear it and identify it FAST with Midomi - just hold your iPhone up to a speaker, and Midomi names the tune in as little as five seconds! It even works if you sing or hum the melody, and instantly brings you top songs and similar artists.

Midomi Ultra is powered by Melodis' own Sound2Sound Search Science, which enables fast and accurate song ID and searching. It's easy to use:
♪ Identify a recorded song you hear playing, like in a bar or on the radio: just tap the big orange button, hold the iPhone (or iPod touch with compatible Mic) near the speaker, without singing or talking over the recording, and wait for Midomi to return a result.
♪ See if Midomi can find a song you sing or hum: tap the orange button, sing or hum solo with no background music or noise, then tap the button again when done. It's great for finding songs or as a game!
♪ Go right to a song or artist you already know: tap the gray Say Search button (the one with the speech bubble), then say something like: "Single Ladies by Beyonce," "Rolling Stones," or "I'm Yours."
Once Midomi Ultra has found your song, it automatically brings up a music browser which lets you:
○ Instantly play a free preview or youTube videos - without even leaving Midomi
○ Buy the song in iTunes
○ NEW: Share it over email, Facebook, or Twitter
○ Find lyrics
○ Check out the whole album, or the artist - including a bio, photos, similar artists, and more.
No connection while searching? Midomi saves your pending searches so you can get results when you have connectivity.
The name "Midomi" is made up of the notes "mi," "do," and then "mi" again. The notes are a major third apart and have a nice ring to them. Try it out loud: "mi-do-mi!"
REQUIREMENTS - IPOD TOUCH USERS PLEASE NOTE:
Midomi Ultra works on the iPhone, first generation iPod touch (with dock connector mic), and second generation iPod touch (with an external microphone such as in certain Apple headsets).

Though its not perfect, 9 times out of 10 this app manages to recognize a song from just a few seconds of singing, humming, or playing from speakers. And it gives you many options of listening to the song, from buying it in itunes, to watching it on youtube. And all this for no cost.

I'd never thought I'd catch myself writing one of these reviews but this app just inspired me to write my first one, that's how good it is... it's a must have, especially for free... its kinda scary lol
Amazing App...and it's FREE?!?! :)

Wow, I was really impressed with this app - especially with it being free. Midomi does what it says it does, and pretty accurately, too. My boyfriend and I had a singing match this morning and I won! This is one cool little app with an easy-to-understand interface, a variety of options and even little clips to let you hear the song you're looking for. An all-around great app. Very user-friendly and well put together. They really need to charge a few bucks for this one!

Surprisingly fast and effective
Excellent way to make someone smile.
Of all the launch apps on the iPhone, this is by far my favorite. The fact that you can listen to other people's attempts at singing a song makes it that much more entertaining.
amazing technology
it can really find songs that you sing! even my four year old can sing songs and have the identified! amazing!
All smiles...
This app is miraculous! Seriously. Make sure you give it a 10+ second sample and you can't help but smile at the results.
Simply AMAZING.
the BEST free app available. Its amazing, works flawless for the most part and is free. I used it this weekend to find a song I didn't know the name of an it worked perfectly. Incredible software.

Great abilities, it really impressed me, but it did miss a few of my older sings in iTunes library, but I guess that's being a little picky. I was extremely suprised to find that it found songs based on my awful singing capabilities.
Amazing, and free!

This program really works. I tried a bunch of songs playing on the radio, and it told me the right artist and title on all but one. I am mesmerized by this. And did I mention it's free?

Pretty amazing app. Singing "Lovin' You" or actually humming/la la la'ing it into the phone produced what I doubted would happen. That was able to pull me away from the greateness of the 2.0 software for enough time. Great how you can hear a clip of the songs it finds, or go to YouTube videos of them or go right to the iTunes WiFi store and purchase it. Thumbs up.
Really works.
I sang a song as badly as I could, and it recongized it and gave it back as the very first result!
Why not in top 10?
Why is this app not in the top ten most popular apps?
Fun and Functional
This is a great, great app. It allows you to hum/sing or say a name of a tune or listen to a tune on the radio or type in your best guess spelling of a tune or author then it goes out and finds that tune. Fun and functional. Be warned, it allows a seamless transition from finding out all about the tune to simply buying it on iTunes straight from your iPhone. I wish every application was and fun and functional as this.

I didn't expect this to work well. I figured it would be a hit and miss type thing...but this little app is wonderful and fun.
It's already helped me figure out some tunes I could sing but couldn't name. I was pleasantly surprised by its accuracy. It's gotten every single song I've sung right.
I have a feeling this app will be on my favorites list for a long time.
MIRACULOUS!!!!
I had major doubts about whether this app could really deliver on its promises -- but it DOES!!!! I just sang it a song (a relatively OBSCURE one, no less) and within SECONDS it identified it and provided relevant links and info. I had to pinch myself to make sure I wasn't dreaming. BRAVO to the developers!

It works like a charm! I tried Sing search with a tune I heard at the mall the other day that I've been trying to hunt down. It was kinda scary when the right result came back, especially with my lousy humming! (It was "The Way I Am" by Ingrid Michaelson) The Say search and Grab search were spot on too. Definitely my favorite app. so far.

An application that identifies songs on the radio? Amazing. When I saw that this application allows you to sing part of songs to identify them... I was a bit skeptical. I am a horrible singer, but I decided to test this application many times. It worked most of the time; BEYOND MY EXPECTATIONS. I am a music lover (aren't we all?) and I always get frustrated when u hear a new song I like but can't buy or download because I don't have the title. This application will be a life saver.

I had the program listen to the first few seconds of a song from my computer (before the melody kicked in) and after a minute search it identified the song and where to buy it, or play it on YouTube. An absolutely incredible program!

After reading a few negative reviews I was hesitant to try this over Shazam, but after singing a few obscure songs into the iphone (and embarrassing myself in the process) I was more than impressed. Indeed, I think this may very well be my new favorite application for the iPhone.

Wow :) It does just what it says and more. Sing, hum, or even record a song into the iPhone's mic and midomi will match the song...ACURATELY! Didn't expect that. Once you find the song, you can download it in itunes, or (my favorite part) listen to other people's voice as they searched for that same song--but don't worry, that's only for people who've done this over the web...your iphone version isn't saved :) PHEW!

I had heard a song that I liked for over 1 year periodically in Brazil but never knew the name of it. I spent a few minutes humming the tune on this app and sure enough there it was . The name of the song is Lonely by Tommy Vee . I don't know how this app works but it works!!!!!!
So far my favorite app

This was like finding gold in the middle of a hay stack. I can't count how many times I've told someone they knew what song I was talking about. They insist they have no idea what I'm talking about. Now I can pull out my iPhone boot up Midomi and within a few seconds that person will be saying, " OH YEAHHHH, I have heard that song".
What is going on here Apple!!!

I find it quite interesting reading reviews of this app. Does anyone else out there wonder why the first 20-30+ reviews listed when you sort by Most Helpful all have 5 stars? Also, notice how many 5 star reviewers have only reviewed 1 product. Does anyone else wonder why negative reviews get slammed with tons of Was this review helpful "No" answers? t is interesting because this is all statistically impossible unless the reviews are being manipulated, which is the case here as employees and friends of Midomi have been doing. Sadly, Apple has done nothing to address the manipulation going on here.
