Mobilewalla: The Highest Rated Mobile Apps Of 2011
Calendar16 Thu, 29 Dec 2011 15:16:42 UTC +00:00
Mobile analytics firm Mobilewalla has ranked the top apps across all four mobile platforms for 2011, using its own ranking system known at the “Mobilewalla Score.” Instead of looking at raw user ratings, this scoring system is an algorithm that analyzes a variety of factors in addition to ratings, including an app’s position within its own category, volume, social media sentiment and more. The scores are a numerical value between 0 and 100, with a higher score indicating a more successful app. It’s an interesting way to slice the data, and gives a different picture of the app store ecosystem than typical year-end lists do. Those often look solely at download numbers and tend to include apps which have been popular for years – like Facebook, Twitter, Angry Birds, etc. Other lists, meanwhile, are editorially selected or curated, like some of those we’ve featured here. The list below is grouped by platform Read More

Any Given Sunday: 7 Sports Tools You Can't Live Without
Calendar16 Mon, 26 Oct 2009 22:15:00 UTC +00:00
Touchdown dances, chest painters and rally caps - if you're not a sports fan, it's hard to understand why a perfectly upstanding citizen would wear a gigantic foam hand or engage in the politically incorrect Tomahawk chop. But if you are a diehard sports addict, you've probably been one since you were a kid. We watched in awe when Nolan Ryan pitched a 101 mph fast ball at the age of forty, when Air Jordan effortlessly dunked from the free throw line and when Joe Montana set the record for most yards passing during Super Bowl XIX. When you've been present to watch sports history, you can't turn your back on the game now. Nevertheless, with so much happening at once, below are a few tools that can help you juggle multiple games: 1. Lockerblogger: Lockerblogger offers users a chance to create fan profiles and track the sports they're most interested Read More

Reviews

Lacking lots of features
bbwi 1.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
There are no batting stats for the game, pitching stats for the game, analyst previews, etc. A lot of features missing. I think the video quality is good enough
Seems to be missing a lot.... For what you get it should be free...
iPhones4All 2.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
It seems to be missing a lot of details. Also it would be nice to get up to the minute standings. I get more data from my Sports Fan Widget then I do from this app... I hope they will update this soon...
Very neat, but could be even better
20Rick 4.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
I like it, but it would be nice to have access to the box score. Other than that, it's great! Video highlights are nice!
Frankly, a disappointment - not what it could easily have been.
Northwestern 2.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
MLB could easily have integrated the box score, stats, etc. that it provides for free on its own website - instead you have to depart the app to visit the same website you can get for free to see those stats.
Pretty but missing a lot of stats
NateDogg Pierre 2.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
I expected more from this. It doesn't seem to have any stats from the game - batting, pitching... The videos are nice but I think they left a lot out. Going to mlb.com mobile version is a lot better.
Great! Great! Great!
MadCow 5.0 stars Version: 2.0.1
I have been waiting for this app since they previewed it at the keynote. I am out of market area and hate waiting for highlights of my Red Sox on ESPN. This is perfect, now if we could watch games, that would be ridiculous. Thanks MLB!
Not that good.
i&iPhone 2.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
Could be a lot better. Should be free. Mobile site is and it has way more features and stats.
quality of video is lacking...
LudwigVon 3.0 stars Version: 1.0.0
just bought this app...
Kudos to MLB for continuing to improve the application
cageyjames 5.0 stars Version: 2.0.1
I have to say, MLB.com At Bat is now my favorite iPhone app. Gamecenter integration has really turned this application up a notch. I found myself watching my iPhone screen all evening keeping up on scores rather than have ESPNews running in the background. I love it!
Exceptional!
WPM 5.0 stars Version: 1.2
It's clear that a lot of hard work went into making this app as fun and functional as possible. The result is a home run!
Great App!
Quinn15 1.0 stars Version: 2.0.1
I got this app when it first launched and I'll be the first to admit that it wasn't worth the $5....but now since the new update, this app is the ONLY app you need for baseball. It gives you live play by play, in game boxscores, video highlights, previews and pitching matchups for the next days games, and yes, there IS a way to pick your favorite team, if you people would read, you would realize that its in the settings section of your phone. If you love baseball, buy this app
$5 = No-brainer for fans
drgardner 5.0 stars Version: 1.2
The addition of gameday makes this app even better than ever. Don't understand the complaints about price -lots of info and function for less than you'd pay for a beer at the park.
great app
hockeythug 5.0 stars Version: 2.0.1
great app, just keep in mind that it's $4.99 just for this season(including playoffs). Well worth it though. On demand video highlights are great.
Best Paid Application.
Flavorsaurus.com 5.0 stars Version: 2.0.1
5 Stars!
A must have for any fan...
Billy S.C. 5.0 stars Version: 1.2
Go Giants!!!
Go Cubs Go
Halvyisback 5.0 stars Version: 1.2
Can someone make a NFL and a NHL version of this interface PLEASE?!?!?
Wow
StevoC 3.0 stars Version: 2.0.1
All other baseball apps can give up now. A towering homerun! Well done MLB.
Great application, needs some tweaking though.
drewhp89 4.0 stars Version: 2.0.1
Great application, very nice graphic of what's happening in the game. Loads relatively fast, even on EDGE, and has everything new within about fifteen seconds of it happening real time. What a great idea! The only addition I would have would be to add a live pitch by pitch feature where you can see where the pitch was, etc... like on ESPN or MLB.com. Overall, great and worth the small amount it's priced at.
The 1.2 update is a homerun.
Jim33 5.0 stars Version: 1.2
MLB's Advanced Media Department has done a fantastic job improving this application in only a couple month's time. The new features in version 1.2 provide almost as much information and functionality as the team's web site. The videos are a major asset of this program.
Finally
PenguinIce 5.0 stars Version: 1.2
The addition of Gameday just made this app 3 million times better. Now it is totally worth the money! The Gameday channel has minimal delay with the actual game and gives you real time updates. This is what we have been waiting for in this app.
Very well done, MLB
dcnatsfan 5.0 stars Version: 1.2
I previously criticized MLB (in a top-rated review) for releasing a very weak app that contained no stats, box scores, pitch by pitch, etc. So, I'm pleased to report that they've now added a slick iPhone interface for all of these features, including a nice graphical layout of defensive positioning, summaries, and videos. This is, in short, absolutely perfect. I now wholeheartedly recommend this app to all baseball fans.
New version is awesome
PitVipers 5.0 stars Version: 2.0.1
It was probably a 2 or 3-star app before the new version, but this version has everything you could want -- play-by-play, box scores, player stats -- all in addition to the great videos that have been around from the beginning
Misleading
Carrig 1.0 stars Version: 1.3
I thought this was a great app when I purchased it when it was first released, but since then it has become a "2008 season" application and it looks as if I would have to re-purchase this app for each season. The first time this was even mentioned as a 2008 season only app was the last update for the postseason information. I will obviously not be buying this app again for these reasons. There are plenty of other options accessible via the iPhone to follow my team's scores and stats than to pay for this app every season. Very misleading, and very disappointing.
New Updates make this app one of the best
Bmac4212 5.0 stars Version: 2.0.1
MLB had a good app when it first came out. Now with the new features, it really is one of the best. My question is what the heck is Sportline, ESPN, and the NFL doing?
Great app but
intake66 4.0 stars Version: 1.3
Not worth buying every year. I just got the latest update and now that's it. Weak! I highly doubt I would pay for the app since I can just pull the same info for free online. When will MLB learn?
