10 Things You Never Knew You Could Do On Your iPad
Calendar16 Fri, 08 Apr 2011 18:40:32 UTC +00:00
What is usually the first thing everyone that gets a new iPad wants to know? Which apps to get. But there are still some cool things that you can do with your iPad, even without buying a single app.  I’m not talking about well-known features like Multitasking, Folders, Airplay, Airprint, or even the new HD Mirroring capability of the iPad 2. Instead, here are ten, hidden in plain sight, secret features of the iPad 2. You maybe aware of one or two, but let’s see if you knew about all ten. There are several ways you can access your media collection from your iPad.  The first and easiest is to sync your library from iTunes.  However, if you have enabled Home Sharing in iTunes on your Mac, you can also access your entire iTunes Library on your Mac while connected to the same Wi-Fi network.  To access your Home Sharing library from the iPad Read More

Calendar16 Tue, 14 Dec 2010 18:45:00 UTC +00:00
Apple has compiled a list called their 2010 Rewind. In it, they have named the top Apps of the year, and gathered them all up into one page so that they can easily be found. Note that these are not our picks (though many of our favorites did make the list) but it’s a compilation of Apple’s favorite Apps of the 2010. Let’s take a look at Apple’s iTunes 2010 rewind: Shoot, Edit, Share – Best of iPhone Camera Utility Apps of 2010 1) Hipstamatic – 99 cents      2) Path – Free 3) Instagram – Free 4) Pocketbooth – 99 cents 5) iMovie – $4.99      6) Splice – Video Editor – 99 cents 7) Read More
Free App Friday: Living in the Cloud

Posted 12/10/2010 at 2:46pm | by Florence Ion Here at Mac|Life, we really do love free apps. We love loading up our iOS devices with seriously utilitarian apps that live in the cloud, too. Here's a look at some of our favorite cloud applications that work across ALL platforms--Mac, iPhone and iPad. If you're not a part of drop box, you are seriously missing out on one of the most helpful services we've ever used. The service plants a folder on your hard drive that syncs across all computers using the service. The mobile app lets you view your documents and even play a song on the go. If you've got MobileMe, there's no reason not to access it on your iOS device. iDisk lets you view and share your MobileMe files, as well as view iWork, Office, Quicktime and PDF files. You can also access other Public folders from this Read More
Posted 09/07/2010 at 3:38pm | by Florence Ion We've caught wind of a myriad of tres cool software updates pushed live today. For starters, your Safari just got a little more safer, which is great when you're navigating an internet filled with hungry lions and angry giraffes. The new update fixes an issue that could prevent users from submitting web forms, as well as another issue that could cause web content to display incorrectly when viewing a Google Image result with Flash 10.1. Oh, that pesky Adobe Flash. Additionally, the new Safari update establishes an encrypted, authenticated connection to the Safari Extensions Gallery. Quick, go get the one that prevents you from ever having to see Comic Sans ever again! For those of you using Apple apps on your iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad, the official iDisk app also got an update. Version 1.2.1 fixes an issue that prevented package files Read More
If you've been having problems with the Apple MobileMe iDisk app, or even if you haven't noticed anything weird, it's a good idea to get the latest update. The newest version (1.21) fixes a problem opening Keynote files in some circumstances on the iPad. Rotated images now show in the correct orientation, and there are the usual unspecified 'stability and performance improvements.' Meanwhile, the Find My iPhone app has been bumped to version 1.01. The updated app supports the new iPod touch and fixes some translation issues in French, German and Japanese. There are also 'various bug fixes.' The apps work on the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad, so check the app store for the free updates pronto. Read More
Back to School 2010 Buyer’s Guide for iPad Lovers

The iPad should be number one on every college student’s wish list. It’s pretty light weight and easy to carry, and with the diverse selection of apps available, you can really get more out of it than carrying your laptop to class. Our last feature in the 2010 Back to School Buyer’s Guide series is a look at some great accessories for the iPad. $69, Apple Store Touch screens are great, but extended periods of typing on them can be problematic. The Apple Keyboard and Dock is a great solution to help display your iPad while you type notes. If you have a different stand preference, you can buy the Apple Wireless Keyboard separately (for the same price) and use it with your iPad or any other Bluetooth-enabled Mac. $29, Apple Store These two adapters will allow you to plug your SD card or USB camera directly into your iPad and Read More

Michae Robertson of MP3tunes.com, the new functionality lets people stream music to their Apple devices by using the online storage service that comes with iDisk, a service similar to Google Docs. The move is interesting for several reasons: The service is hidden deeply in the feature sets that comes with the release notes of MobileMe iDisk version 1.2. It's not even on Apples' bulleted list. New iDisk App Allows Music Streaming From Cloud
Calendar16 Wed, 04 Aug 2010 16:01:43 UTC +00:00
By Chris Hall on August 4th, 2010 New iDisk App allows cloud streaming. Apple’s latest update to its iDisk app, on top of some other upgrades, allows music streaming for the first time. It isn’t quite the full iTunes sync like some people want, but it will allow you to stream any music that you have stored on your iDisk to any devices that have the software. It even allows for background streaming, which is quite nice for those on the move. There are some drawbacks, such as the lack of music auto syncing and the lack of playlists and album artwork on the service, but if you are just looking for a way to get a ton of music in the cloud, this is great. The funny thing is that this music streaming feature is not included in the bullet list of added features that shows up on the main Read More
Well this was unexpected: Apple has quietly enabled its devices to stream music to iPhones, iPads, and iPod Touches from online storage through iDisk. It's the very next-best thing to putting iTunes in the cloud. UPDATED: The new feature was unearthed by Michael Robertson, who also provided the screen shots above showing clearly that iDisk allows both background music streaming and public file sharing among multiple devices at simultaneously. Matt declared iDisk "halfway there" in his lightning review—this seems like as good a second half as any. You've apparently been able to do this with iDisk for a while, but this is the first time you get backgrounding support and controls. It's not totally effortless and there are a few limitiations: you need to drag your music files one by one [or whole folders] to iDisk, there's no playlist support, and you're limited to 20GB of storage. That's still a whole Read More

Apple Makes MobileMe More Cloud and iPad-Friendly
Calendar16 Wed, 07 Jul 2010 21:15:57 UTC +00:00
by Apple has updated its MobileMe service to include a new calendar interface and an iPad-friendly version of its iDisk iOS app. MobileMe, which is basically Google Apps meets Dropbox in a shiny wrapper, has been getting a visual overhaul over the last few months. Back in May, Apple re-designed the webmail interface for MobileMe, making it look very similar to the Mail app on the iPad. That update, along with a new Find My iPhone app for the iPhone and iPad, was released last month. The new calendar interface, which is currently in beta, also takes major design cues from the iPad. The layout is almost identical to that of the Calendar app on Apple’s tablet device. Personally, I think the iPad calendar is absolutely brilliant, which makes the web update a welcome change. Additionally, the new calendar will support sharing with family and friends who are also MobileMe members. Read More
MobileMe Updates Galore: Calendar Beta and iDisk App
Calendar16 Wed, 07 Jul 2010 17:40:35 UTC +00:00
If you’re one of those shelling out $99 per year for Apple’s do-it-all cross-platform sync service MobileMe, as I am, then this has been a good week. In fact, it’s been a pretty good few months overall, thanks to what appears to be a renewed interest on Apple’s part in keeping the service worth our while. First there was the web-based Mail overhaul, and then the Find My iPhone app. Now, the Calendar web app gets a similar makeover to the one Mail received, and like its predecessor, it starts out in invite-only beta form. And at nearly the same time, we get an update to MobileMe’s iDisk app for iOS devices, bringing with it true iPad/iPhone universality. And it’s about time. The iPad has been out since April of this year, and yet Find My iPhone was the first MobileMe-related iOS app to boast universality. iDisk and Gallery seemed to Read More
In what would have been an otherwise mundane update, Apple has released its MobileMe iDisk App for iOS 4, including support for iPad. The update may hint at possibilities of a cloud-based iTunes in the works. In the update notes, Apple lists the ability to "play audio from your iDisk while using another app." This is an interesting feature addition for many reasons, but mostly because it could be the first step to establishing a cloud-based streaming media solution for iPhone and iPad users. If Apple is using iDisk as a test for future plans to launch an "itunes.com" streaming service, bridging the gap between iOS devices and iTunes would not be far off. Simply adding an iTunes-esque interface to the iDisk App or merging MobileMe and iTunes altogether (perhaps MobileMe+ or iTunes Mobile?) and including a streaming service for purchases made in the iTunes Music Store would ensure Apple's continued Read More

Editor-in-Chief, iLounge Published: Wednesday, July 7, 2010 Category: iPod, iPhone, and iPad Gems: Apps, Games + More Welcome to a special Apple application-focused edition of iPhone + iPad Gems! Over the last two weeks, Apple has released both new and updated apps for iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad users, expanding both its growing collection of shopping tools and the capabilities of its web-based MobileMe subscription service. The four applications we look at today all depend on an active Internet connection, and include Apple Store, Find My iPhone, MobileMe Gallery and MobileMe iDisk, tools to locate Apple products and access media from wherever you may be located in the world. Our top pick is the new version of MobileMe iDisk, which has seen significant improvements for iPad and iOS 4 users in particular, but all of the applications merited at least our general recommendation. Read on for all the details. Apple Store Read More
Apple has rolled out the latest update for the MobileMe iDisk application. This brings the app up to version 1.2, but perhaps more important is that its now a universal app. Or maybe the important part is that the iDisk app is now supporting multitasking with iOS 4. In the end I guess the most important part comes down to whether or not you are sporting an iPad or iPhone running iOS 4. Either way, both features are welcomed additions. Otherwise, the app was and remains a free download. Though you will need to be a MobileMe subscriber to find any value in use. A few examples of the multitasking include that you can play audio files that are stored on your iDisk while using another app and that you can quickly switch back and forth between your iDisk and another app. In addition to the previously mentioned features, Apple also Read More
MobileMe iDisk app updated
Calendar16 Wed, 07 Jul 2010 14:00:00 UTC +00:00
Apple has updated the MobileMe iDisk app (free) with several new features, including full iPad compatibility. Now universal, MobileMe iDisk looks great on an iPad and offers full iOS 4 multitasking support. It saves its state like other multitask-optimized apps, so it'll present the last file you were browsing at launch. Also, you can open compatible documents for iBooks, Pages, GoodReader, or other apps that support the "Open in..." feature. The iPad's split screen display also makes it very easy to view documents while browsing folders. If you have audio files stored on your iDisk, the app will let you listen to them in the background while you do other things. MobileMe iDisk is free, but it requires a valid MobileMe account. The app was first released last year for the iPhone, and this is its first significant upgrade since last December. Read More
Ein entsprechendes Support-Dokument “MobileMe: How to Prepare for the MobileMe Calendar Beta“, datiert auf den heutigen 07. Juli, existiert bereits ebenfalls. Dropbox: überfällig auf dem Transfermarkt
Calendar16 Tue, 04 May 2010 13:27:34 UTC +00:00
Being able to access your files remotely can be a lifesaver. There are tons of solutions for that with cloud storage services like Box.net or Mobile Me and their respective apps. The thing is, and you probably experienced that as well; when you’re missing a file, it’s most likely one that you did not have the presence of mind to put online. The Here, File File! app, which we announced a little while ago, is here to solve that by simply letting you access your entire file system remotely in a fast and convenient way. Let me tell you up front that it’s however not for everyone. First of all, for Here, File File to function; you’ll be required to install and be constantly running a little Mac-only program. This means that if your computer is off, not online or not a mac; well, you’re out of luck. If that doesn’t stop you Read More
Find My iPhone now works in Mobile Safari
Calendar16 Fri, 19 Feb 2010 20:30:00 UTC +00:00
Apple's MobileMe site at me.com used to be completely useless on the iPhone or iPod touch in Mobile Safari -- you'd get a splash page telling you to set up your contacts, calendars, and mail accounts, but that was about it. No webmail access, no direct access to galleries, iDisk, or even Find My iPhone. Apple introduced standalone apps that addressed some of these shortcomings (iDisk and Gallery), but there was still no way to access Find My iPhone unless you resorted to workarounds. Things have improved somewhat with the new MobileMe page. Instead of simply admonishing you to set everything up on your Mac or PC, MobileMe now provides you with a link to instructions for setting up mail, contacts, and calendars. There's also links to download the iDisk and Gallery apps from the App Store. What's most useful about the change is you now have the ability to use Read More

Leider kann Read More
By Rene Ritchie, Wednesday, Dec 16, 2009 | Some quick App Store updates this week, including Mobile iDisk 1.1, PCalc and Pcalc Lite 1.9, I Am T-Pain 1.2, and Canabalt 1.2. Apple updates MobileMe iDisk app for iPhone

Dec 15th 2009 at 10:30PM Is it just me or does anyone else think it is absurd that this app does not allow you to UPLOAD to iDisk? Not just you, mate.... I had trouble updating iDisk last night, but this morning it all went as usual. I also had trouble updating Dragon, but it was OK today, too. Probably some temporary glitch. For almost a week now I've been having problems with apps updating. If there were 5 updates available then all 5 would install but 1-2 would still show back up as updates again. Sometimes they would install the second time sometimes it would take 5-6 times over a 2 day period to get an app to update. Ap Store really pissing me off this week. [tipp] Automatischer Datei-Sync für Online-Abruf
Calendar16 Tue, 06 Oct 2009 14:14:55 UTC +00:00

If I pay $100 a year for Apple to host my blog, buy the annual iLife update, and a new iPhone every year, why can I still not update a MobileMe blog via my iPhone? It's like Apple wants me to drop my subscription. I can access my "Sites" folder with my iDisk app for windows, but not my iPhone? This needs fixed and soon!!! Why buy iLife or subscribe to MobileMe if I can can't access it anywhere. MobileMe should be called DesktopMe.
Great, but room for improvement

Thanks Apple for taking forever to release a app that hardly competes with a dozen other 3rd party apps. The fact that 3 generations into these phones and os, and I still can't save and send various documents from the mail app/web baffles me! Oh I can save and send (5) photos at a time, send VIDEO, but a simple lil' PDF....... God forbid.....that would be......USEFUL! GET IT TOGETHER APPLE!!
Nice but a fatal flaw!

No security!! The app remembers your login credentials and automatically signs in on app launch. I will have to stick with MobileFiles which is similar but has a passcode required to launch.
Good but too limited
Strato C 2.0 stars Version: 1.0
Great for viewing files and sending share links, but needs an option to move files from iPhone to iDisk. Even photos at a minimum would be nice.
Needs Improvement

The iPhone really needs a Finder. MobileMe would also make a good storage drive. Other apps should have access to the iDisk, so that text files, etc, can be edited and shared between apps, etc. I know that's more long term, but start here: 1. Ability to download and upload files from a "common area" of the iPhone to the iDisk. 2. Ability to move files between folders 3. Ability to create new folders 4. Ability to rename files and folders 5. Basic text editor for HTML files in my site's root While you're at it Apple, iWork and iPhoto would also be appreciated. Dumbed down versions, of course, but still useful AND usable. I'd pay $30 for iWork Mobile and $15 for iPhoto mobile. Of course you could always bundle in iPhoto to the photo app. Basic image organization and simple editing tools are all we need. Also, why is it that the Photo folders now contain Videos that we shoot on the 3GS? Very confusing. Please, a common storage area is required. Just call it "Finder" and bundle it on the home screen. Thanks!
Does as advertised, and well

MobileMe iDisk basically does what it advertises, and well. What I like is that it basically replaces the need to create a MobileMe gallery to see the photos I have uploaded to my iDisk. I actually don't even use my iDisk that often, but this might prompt me to do so.
I've been waiting for this app...

It's ok but here is what I think could be improved: •Bonjour printing should be added. •I don't like the way it loads documents and defaults to leaving the title bar at the top which can cover a few lines of text until you tap it to remove it.
FINALLY, Great work

I've been waiting for this one... Works great so far, but wish Apple would have allowed for local storage of files with Wifi access to iPhone local storage (Like QuickOffice).
It's Ok But...

Only 200MB max, no password or pin number protection on the app, no audio or video stored - only streamed, can't choose which files you want to always sync
Good, but only covers the basics!

I thought it would be good to try this out, I currently use "DocPrinter" which has worked really well for me. I think I will carry on using it because I use MobileMe & iDisk daily in a corp environment to access files when I am on a customers site. Most places block internet access so I need to access my files via 3G on the iPhone. This app held a lot of promise to help me out, but what I need is to be able to move files, create folders and push up files from other sources and most of all print. These are essential tasks for me so this does not quite cut it!
Clean & Simple

It works well and has the functionality you would expect. Not going to change your life but it's great for when you want access to your iDisk. Now if you could just edit documents.
Been waiting for this

Ever since Apple announced this app coming out I've been waiting for it. The app works great without any hitches. I can view all of my files as well as stream videos and music. Excellent app!
Excellent, elegant, Apple.

This is the quintessential application for any MobileMe iDisk user. The ease of use, simplicity of user experience, and of course the integration make the MobileMe iDisk app for iPhone/iPod touch a must-have. If you have yet to try your iDisk, this app should convince of the benefits immediately.
Finally!

It's about time... Works pretty much as advertised though. Seamless access to the iDisk files and folders, very intuitive and easy UI. Not surprisingly, larger files don't load that quickly over 3G. But it's basically an iDisk on a phone.
Great app!
hh83917 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
It's a simple app that hooks up to your iDisk. Easy interface and you can add other people's public folder on it for easy access. Overall pretty good. It can open iPhone supported files such as doc, pages, ppt...etc. There was a note that said it won't be able to stream audio and video files off your MobileMe. I actually have some handbrake encoded movies on my iDisk (around 1+gb each, in h264, m4v format) and I was able to play it right off my iPhone 3gs. It took a little bit for the iPhone to load it, but it works! Overall, a great, simple, and solid app.
Works well
Robert_928 4.0 stars Version: 1.0
Was able to easily access images in my Pictures folder stored on my iDisk. I do wish it would show thumbnail images, could copy photo(s) to my iPhone and was a bit faster. Good initial release.
WOW

I was waiting for this app since last Keynote. The iPhone is now 100% CLOUD

Amazing!
matwoj 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
It works really well. Very fast, and has really cool features. First of all, you can preview some files such as .doc, .jpg, .pdf and some other supported files. Then you can share by sending a link to someone (and you can disable that link anytime). You can also delete files. Really, really nice app!
It's about time!

Finally I can use this much needed MobileMe feature with my iPhone.
Finally!
