Description

Molecules is an application for viewing three-dimensional renderings of molecules and manipulating them using your fingers. You can rotate the molecules by moving your finger across the display, zoom in or out by using two-finger pinch gestures, or pan the molecule by moving two fingers across the screen at once. Double-tapping on the display lets you switch visualization modes.

Not ready yet. But an important app!
robert smithies 3.0 stars Version: 1.0
Five stars for writing this, one star for current functionality, average is three! This could be incredibly useful to people interested in macromolecular structure. Right now (even with the anticipated connectivity corrections in v1.1) it doesn't provide enough.
Nice package...needs ribbon!
iProf_ 4.0 stars Version: 1.0
It's a great app for educators like myself. App is solid and manipulation is so intuitive...much better than any full featured professional apps i've used! My only wish is that it would not default to ball/stick mode...a simple toggle for ribbon diagrams would make this much more educational and an absolute must-have for any chemistry/biochemistry Prof.
Great tool!
Smoky Blue 4.0 stars Version: 1.0
A great tool to visualize molecules. Educators and students alike will love it. My one suggestion is that it needs to incorporate physics for molecule movement instead if instantly starting and stopping.
Help, I Need caffeine
RNMartin 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
no seriously, how could they not include one of the most fundamental molecules in human experience.
Amazing!
Whiteknight521 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
This is revolutionary at the very least. This PDB viewer is more responsive and intuitive than the majority of native apps like swissprot. This app should become standard in biomolecular chemistry. All it is missing is a search function, but this can be done in safari.
Nice Program but Caution with Big Files
Dr Dan the Man 4.0 stars Version: 1.0.1
This is great little program for showing the 3 dimensional structure of proteins (caffeine is not a protein, by the way). You can look up proteins in the Protein Databank web page, but if you don't have chemistry/biology background, it may be difficult. I made the mistake of downloading a high resolution alcohol dehydrogenase file. When I tried to look at the image it kept rendering and rendering with no way to cancel. After about 10 minutes it finished, but then when I pushed the info icon in the lower right it would shut the application, rather than allow me to look at other molecules. I ended up having to remove the application then reinstall. A good hemoglobin molecule is 1o1k.
Very Nice!
FreakOut 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
This application has GREAT potential to become something great, and i believe it will. It might be a little bit useless as of now, but as i said, it has potential to become something great. Plus, it shows off the great power of the iPhone.
Has Potential
Plarp 3.0 stars Version: 1.0
Neat little app. Colleagues I've shown this to enjoy it more for its novelty rather than usefulness. Most commented on the lack of electron density maps, inabality to identify individual residues and/or ribbon structure renderings. Hopefully we'll see those things shortly.
Awesome
musicmanatlanta 5.0 stars Version: 1.1
When I was a kid, there occasionally were programs on the Discovery channel about cutting edge bio-scientists who used super computers to render models like these. The fact that I can now spin proteins in the palm of my hand, blows my mind. It works great and loads fast. And it's free. And there have been updates! I was satisfied with version 1.0 :)
Crashes to Home Screen After New Molecules Added (iPod Touch)
WTjunkie 2.0 stars Version: 1.0
I'm using this app on the iPod Touch. The rendering is great, and it seems like a very promising application, but for one problem:
Very cool!
Urja 4.0 stars Version: 1.0
Was hoping to see some kind of molecular viewer app. How long til we can bring in our own .pdb files that are not in RCSB?
How to zoom in
Piano_man_2009 5.0 stars Version: 1.1
I think that this is a great app. Although the rabies virus crashed my phone, I'm guessing that's because it's such a big molecule. I think it's really useful and I like it! I discovered this completely by accident, but in order to zoom in, place two fingers on the screen fairly close together and move them further apart. So in order to zoom out, place two fingers on the screen and move them together. To whoever Chris J. is, you spelled waste wrong. A waist is the waist on your body as part of your anatomy. So if this app. is a waist then we've got serious problems. LOL
Sweet!
Bradgib 5.0 stars Version: 1.1
This is *so* cool! What a neat idea. It'd be cool to integrate some learning tools into this - allow sciece teachers to create repos of simple molecules one might encounter in textbooks, for example, and associate textual descriptions & diagrams about them, for example. Also, knowing nothing about 3d rendering of molecules, I'd personally like to see some documentation explaining how to read this stuff - what atom each color represents, etc.
great
DJ Chip 5.0 stars Version: 1.1
I love this app I show it off when I'm in science class :)
Awsome& very enjoyable
MshepB 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.1
I am not sure what it all means but I love spending time with It and messing around 1quesrion though can u view it in ribbon mode? And not I hope they will update it so u can
Mildly amusing, too slow on complex molecules
Carlos Alvarez 3.0 stars Version: 1.0
I guess it's interesting, or would be if it was faster. When you open the larger ones it's completely unusable.
Not too bad, but needs more!
SheepNutz 3.0 stars Version: 1.0
It's not a bad app, but I was hoping for more than proteins. It would be great if it could search molecules by CAS # and give results from other databases.
Neat
Ipod love 4.0 stars Version: 1.0.1
I don't know what it means but it's fun to play with!
Thank you
Geovanni JimenezGarcia 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
For being free, it is actually a rather interesting and useful app. Thanks!
Very nice app to show off the phones power ;)
de Richelieu 4.0 stars Version: 1.0
Nice app but limited functionality.
Terribly non-user friendly
guitargodd1987 1.0 stars Version: 1.0
I was impressed by the graphics, enjoyed moving DNA around then I tried to download the hemoglobin molecule. It asked me for the four-character code which I didn't know so it said I could search from website. Easy enough, I figured so I searched their website and it provided tons of extraneous data on various forms of hemoglobin BUT NOT THE FOUR CHARACTER CODE.
Great for students!
Jason Jordan, DJ 5.0 stars Version: 1.2
I am a Biochemistry undergraduate and this app seriously helps a lot. In class my teacher starts talking about Hb and I can LOOK at it right then! My only request: please add ribbon view. I showed this to my professor (who also has an iPhone) and her jaw dropped!
Too slow
Cuppingmaster 3.0 stars Version: 1.1
Ultimate nerd tool but way too slow rendering anything useful to actually take seriously. Brownie points for the interface though which is beautifully written to tale advantage of cocoa touch.
Cool
ITester 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.1
Amazing data
Nice but needs bonds
Jim Hu 4.0 stars Version: 1.0
Nice app. As with other reviewers I can see some things that are missing, but hey, it's not that long ago that the functionality of this app needed a workstation. My top item for what is missing is: bonds. If you zoom in on the DNA sample, for example, you can see that the backbone is not connected. Proteins downloaded from the PDB display as atoms, not residues. Still, very impressive.
