March MASSIVE Games Roundup - part 1 of 2
Calendar16 Tue, 30 Mar 2010 13:15:03 UTC +00:00
Published: March 30, 2010 Comment         The roundup for March 2010 starts with a non game, and ends with a Konami special in part 2. There are a couple of real gems to be found in the roundup this month. In part 1 there are two titles shining brighter than the rest: Last Front: Europe and Monster RPG 2. Before we get there we start by going through the alphabet. abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz - weird title, entertaining app. abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz is not a game but rather a quite entertaining way to spend your time just playing around with sound. It doesn’t want to be a game either, and is found in the Entertainment section of the App Store. We got a code from the developer, and as I found it quite fun to play around with I wanted to mention it to our dear readers. Basically abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz is what you make of it. Read More
Monster RPG 2: Good Game, but not Quite Ready for Battle
Calendar16 Tue, 23 Mar 2010 22:00:55 UTC +00:00
03.23.10        App Score: 7/10    Monster RPG 2 seeks to bring retro, role-playing style to your iPhone. The atmosphere for the game is great and really captures the spirit of older video games. But too many interface issues keep this from being a true hit. The plot of the game is pretty much standard RPG stuff: you must take a simple villager, equip her with weapons, magic, and some fancy combat moves in order to save the world. You battle other monsters, animals, magicians, and a whole slew of characters. The combat takes place in the classic RPG style, where you take turns trying to slug one another to death with your arsenal, taking the occasional breather to heal yourself. The challenge for Monster RPG 2 was to create an app that had the graphics and interface of an older game, yet worked with the touch-screen capabilities of Read More

Amazing!

Simply Amazing, the best RPG I've played on my ipod touch, it did take a little bit for me to figure out you need to swipe in battle mode ( something that would have been a non-issue if i used the tutorial so I don't hold it against the game's developers) the controls are amazing, the absence of a troublesome onscreen D-Pad is a blessing.. and the pathfinding is great! PS: I love the loading screen as well.
Jrpg -ness

A Must have for jrpg fans :)
Nice suprise! BE SURE TO PLAY TUTORIAL!
Zztfox 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
Bought it due to the developer responding to my questions on TouchArcade.com. Touch to move does work with this one as you can pan the screen around to see more of the area. Works better than I thought, but would still love to have a swipe to move, tap for action control scheme. Graphics are excellent and run smooth on my 2g iPod Touch, looks just like a lost SNES game! Music is also excellent, can really tell they put time into polishing this game. All in all if you loved SNES rpgs, mainly Breath of Fire II, this is a steal for $2.99!
Move over final fantasy
enter prise 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
For those of us that remember the good old days before WOW and these other so called mmorpgs, monster 2 brings back many fond memories. Very akin to final fantasy mystic quest's style of gameplay, this game will challenge you and keep you playing to the point of ignoring your calls :-p. With an easy to use controls and battle system. Monster 2 provides many of the easy to use navigation elements that are lacking in the recent final fantasy releases at a fraction of the price. This game is definitely worth checking out.
Pretty darn amazing
Batman1v 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
I am very impressed by this game. Initially, I was a little skeptic, but this game has definitely proven itself so far. I am a little over a half hour in, and here is what has stood out to me. *Graphics: terrific for any fan of SNES rpgs, with the battle screens standing out in particular-- the characters are very well animated for the resolution. *Music: this game sounds like a high budget 16-bit game. the music would be right at home in any of the big hitters of yesteryear. *Controls: surprisingly intuitive. the tutorial is a must, as the control scheme is more reminiscent of a PC rpg than the console games most are used to. one thing I love though is inventory management. single click and drag. beautiful. also of note is the exceptional pathfinding. *Story: I'm not far enough in to comment yet, but the dialogue has been very enjoyable. I particularly like the pacifist guards at the game's first castle. To me, this game feels a lot like Final Fantasy IV or V. For fans of rpgs, this is an easy buy. Even if you already bought Final Fantasy (as I did), this game is definitely worth a look. Since I've gotten it, I've played Monster 2 more then FF. Highly recommended.
Great little classic RPG
Rogue0311 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
So far I'm really enjoying this one. Maybe just me but it's kinda hard. Already died once in the beginning of the game. lol Well worth the purchase!
Nice classic style, but a few issues.

With a screen set-up similar to the 16-bit days of RPG, and a very innovative touch-and-drag inventory and combat system, this game is really growing on me. Three things I need to note, though. First, exiting the app locks my touch for about 15 seconds. Second, the status screen left arrow is right under the back/exit triangle - mildly annoying if you need to check on the fourth character. Third, allow for default actions for non-magic users; let them presume to attack unless another action is selected. Otherwise, I'll be working on my beach strategy.
Very impressive
abuelito 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
A great bit of old-school RPG goodness: fun, clever, and gorgeously pixelated. It has tons of story, a large variety of monsters and locations, and sophisticated turn-based combat system -- basically, anything that a JRPG fan could ask for. The touch/gesture based interface is well implemented, though buttons could stand to be a bit more sensitive, but that's just a quibble. Heck, this game has an honest-to-goodness tutorial: now that's impressive. Final Fantasy I and II may be a bit fancier, but gameplay-wise Monster RPG is no slouch.
Outstanding RPG
Free-dog 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
This is a fantastic and well designed RPG. After playing the quick tutorial, the controls and menu interaction feel natural. The presentation of this game is well done. Everything about it.. the story, the gameplay, music... make it feel like a standout RPG, the kind where right from the beginning you know you're gonna be getting into something good. It all has a retro feel to it, but in no way does that subtract from the game's good style. I'm having a lot of fun playing this. I like the swipe combat system used in the game better then the regular method used in most of the other RPG games. There is a good save system (manual or automatic) with plenty of slots. To me the gameplay is more engaging than Final Fantasy, which I think is a great game too, but for my own personal taste Monster RPG 2 is more interesting.
