It doesn’t matter what kind of car you drive, MyMPG can help you save gas and put hundreds of dollars in your pocket in no time at all. It should pay for itself at your first fill-up.
MyMPG is a remarkably intelligent iPhone application that teaches you how to make small changes in your driving that turn into big savings at the pump. It teaches you how to change the way you drive and then it helps you see how well you are doing. The extra bonus! When you use less gas, you are helping the environment.
You use MyMPG in two ways:
First, start the MyMPG app before you start to drive. Sit your iPhone in a cup holder or on the console so that you can keep an eye on it. As you start to drive, the App power bar will glow red and it will make a sound whenever you are wasting gas. Just try to avoid the red zone and quite the beeps by driving smoother. Then, log your gas purchases as you fill up. The log displays will let you know how much you are saving.
If you change how you use the accelerator for just a few seconds during each driving minute, you can save a lot of gas. Tests performed by Edmunds.com in 2006 show that changing your driving habits can improve your fuel economy by as much as 35 percent. That means that many of us can save up to $650 a year if we simply change the way that we drive.
MyMPG was invented to help you claw back $250 to $500 per year. It does this by gently reminding you and teaching you to drive smother. To make sure you get the results you want, it calculates how much you are saving so you know that you can prove that you are making the planet a little greener when you drive.
MyMPG uses advanced technology in the iPhone and Touch to sense acceleration and to let you know when you are wasting gas. Just open the MyMPG application and then start driving. The App sends out a sound and provides a display that reminds you when you are wasting gas. When you hear the tone, just ease off on the accelerator or the brakes a little.
You’ll be able to see how you are doing and how much you are saving if you use MyMPG at the pump. Just enter your odometer reading and fuel purchase information. It is hard to believe that such a small change in driving techniques can make such a big difference, but it’s true. MyMPG lets you see how you are doing on a graph that tracks your average over time. It also provides details of your fuel consumption and costs. You can manage and review data for several different vehicles.

It does everything it says it does.. But really, you are forced to drive like an 80 year old leaving bingo. I would not purchase this for even 99cents

I turned the sound off so I could listen to my music while I drive, but the display gives good visual feedback while I drive. I used to calculate my mileage after each tank using the trip odometer, but the stats are a convienient way to keep track.

when i open this app it mutes itunes... a necessity when i'm driving. so i couldn't use it to "save the world" and improve my mpg. i also couldn't input any data for my vehicle from the past. there are much better apps to keep track of mileage and maintenance records. i should have done more research before buying.

This looks better than a lot of the other MPG-tracking apps, but it's seriously lacking in functionality (unless I'm missing something). I keep my odometer set to "trip", resetting between fill-ups, rather than total mileage. I guess I could switch back and forth to enter data, but that's just an extra step. Please add a "trip" option. I also find cost per gallon more useful than total cost. And is there really no ability to edit or review individual entries? This application has a long way to go before I start using it.

Expected better performance. I live in a more rural area and because the roads I drive are a little rougher than most this app wasn't helpful at all. Probly be a better purchase for highway drivers.

Am I missing something here? It doesn't come with directions or what the he'll you're supposed to do other than enter your odometer and put the name of your car in. Yeah there is a fancy meter on your screen and it goes up and down... But it doesnt tell you why or what it's doing!? I suggest they add a " how to" or atleast some sort of simple directions.. Jeez

Could use an update including a how to for the slower ppl like the ones that reviewed before this, and a way to adjust sensitivity (all cars drive diff). Maybe have all the specs of other cars and trucks uploaded and you just select your whip. The price is a bit high, its worth about .99. Wait for an update or a price drop.

I do not use any extras on this app, just the color scale. I am used to calculate my mpg manually, do it every time I fill up. But just by using the app in most primitive way, I changed my driving style so my average mileage increased to 33mpg from 30mpg on my Mazda3i. Great job! saves me a gallon per week; my "investment"in the app returned after first tank.

This app is designed to help you avoid hard acceleration and braking whenever possible. In tests, frequent bursts of acceleration and braking reduce the fuel efficiancy by 2 to 3 mpg. Once up to speed on the highway, maintain a steady pace in top gear. Smooth acceleration, cornering, and braking also extend the life of the engine, transmission, brakes, and tires.

This is a cool app, it does what it says it will do. I like the scale on the home screen a lot. The sounds take some getting used to, but they will help you drive differently. Will update review when I get some more mpg data.
