We've come to expect EA to never mess around with its sales, and we're pleased to report that it certainly isn't messing around with its latest. From now, and presumably until shortly after New Years Day, all of the publisher's gargantuan premium catalogue is an agreeable $.99. That means games like Madden 12, Trenches II, and many others have been reduced up to 90-percent off the original asking price. Whoa, right? This same sale happened last year around this time, too. Rubicon’s Great Little War Game [$.99 / UHD / UHD Lite], a turn-based delight that marries conventional micro-based troop management and action with over-the-top art direction and style, can now boast a new campaign and more skirmish maps thanks to a recent update. Dubbed “Call of Booty,” the free campaign adds ten additional levels to an already packed core offering. The skirmish levels number exactly five, which seems like a lot to us. While that stuff is definitely the most important part of the update, it does also do this: it strips the IAP from the additional voice packages. Men like hitting stuff. At least, the “manly-men” of the world do, according to EA. The studio has kicked off its own Fathers’ Day celebration on the App Store, slashing prices for several of its action and sports-oriented titles. Big names like FIFA 11 and Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and Madden 11 have been reduced to pennies, while others are receiving generous discounts. Dead Space, for example, is now just $3. Overall, there’s over a dozen EA-published games available at 85-percent off the normal rate. We’re not sure how much longer the “Many-Man sale” -- no joke -- will last, so it’s probably wise to grab any of these while they’re on the cheap. EA wields an incredible amount of power on the App Store. Their game catalog is incredibly vast, and consists of tons of well known IP that even non-gamers are familiar with. When they pulled a similar stunt this holiday season, EA absolutely dominated the top sales list which was great for gamers who scored absolutely insane deals, but bad for other developers who had their Christmas dreams decimated by EA controlling the majority of the App Store top 100. We'll see what happens this time around with this similarly massive sale- This is definitely a great time to fill in your collection if you're missing any of these EA titles. Last month EA Mobile's newest entry to their Need For Speed franchise - Hot Pursuit - launched in the App Store. Hot Pursuit toned down most of the things that were aimed at hardcore gearheads and instead focused on a more casual but fast-paced arcade experience. The game is definitely a fun ride, if somewhat shallow, and we generally enjoyed it in our review. One thing we didn't like so much, however, was the single-sided career mode in the game. Hot Pursuit is based on high-speed chases with law enforcement, but there was only ever the option to play as the police and not the perp getting chased. This was especially perplexing since EA unintentionally announced during a Japanese media event in October that Hot Pursuit would contain two career modes for a total of 48 events. It's been a huge week for iOS gaming. Yesterday witnessed the arrival of a dazzling new Star Wars title, and today I've got quick takes on five more noteworthy new games--starting with a just-in-time movie tie-in. Lego Harry Potter plays just like the Nintendo DS and Sony PSP version--and looks even better. Lego Harry Potter: Years 1-4  A near-perfect replica of the outstanding console game, Lego Harry Potter (which I previewed last week) loses almost nothing in its transition to the small screen. (And for now, it's only for small screens: the game requires iOS 4.1 or later, which leaves iPads out.) Alas, there's no option for cooperative play, and using your finger (rather than a virtual joystick) to guide your character often blocks the onscreen action.
