The Best of the Holiday iPhone Game Sales and Freebies
Calendar16 Wed, 21 Dec 2011 17:06:59 UTC +00:00
It's no secret that iOS game developers enjoy a good holiday sale, and this week they've pulled out all the stops, dropping the prices on hundreds of titles. Christmas Sale: Every EA Published Game $.99 or Free
Calendar16 Tue, 20 Dec 2011 19:51:29 UTC +00:00
We've come to expect EA to never mess around with its sales, and we're pleased to report that it certainly isn't messing around with its latest. From now, and presumably until shortly after New Years Day, all of the publisher's gargantuan premium catalogue is an agreeable $.99. That means games like Madden 12, Trenches II, and many others have been reduced up to 90-percent off the original asking price. Whoa, right? This same sale happened last year around this time, too. You probably know the story, but EA managed to choke the App Store's charts with its titles and pushed everyone out of its way. It was a powerful move that set the yuletide savings tone moving forward. We've got a list, but just as a note, we haven't listed every single EA game, just the ones in this "holiday sale." If you're looking for something else, hit up EA's publisher Read More
'Great Little War Game' Receives New Campaign Via Update
Calendar16 Thu, 01 Sep 2011 18:00:05 UTC +00:00
Rubicon’s Great Little War Game [$.99 / UHD / UHD Lite], a turn-based delight that marries conventional micro-based troop management and action with over-the-top art direction and style, can now boast a new campaign and more skirmish maps thanks to a recent update. Dubbed “Call of Booty,” the free campaign adds ten additional levels to an already packed core offering. The skirmish levels number exactly five, which seems like a lot to us. While that stuff is definitely the most important part of the update, it does also do this: it strips the IAP from the additional voice packages. From now until “forever,” you can grab the additional voice packs for no cost. That’s cool, right? If you want to know a little bit more about Great Little War Game, there’s no better place than our review, which also highlighted update 1.4. In short, we liked what we played and think Read More

Men like hitting stuff. At least, the “manly-men” of the world do, according to EA. The studio has kicked off its own Fathers’ Day celebration on the App Store, slashing prices for several of its action and sports-oriented titles. Big names like FIFA 11 and Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and Madden 11 have been reduced to pennies, while others are receiving generous discounts. Dead Space, for example, is now just $3. Overall, there’s over a dozen EA-published games available at 85-percent off the normal rate. We’re not sure how much longer the “Many-Man sale” -- no joke -- will last, so it’s probably wise to grab any of these while they’re on the cheap. If you’re interested in more deals, know that EA isn’t the only publisher hacking at its standard prices -- Gameloft and Firemint have their own going on right now.   #5   Today, 04:45 PM Junior Member Read More
EA wields an incredible amount of power on the App Store. Their game catalog is incredibly vast, and consists of tons of well known IP that even non-gamers are familiar with. When they pulled a similar stunt this holiday season, EA absolutely dominated the top sales list which was great for gamers who scored absolutely insane deals, but bad for other developers who had their Christmas dreams decimated by EA controlling the majority of the App Store top 100. We'll see what happens this time around with this similarly massive sale- This is definitely a great time to fill in your collection if you're missing any of these EA titles. It's hard to really provide any real recommendations here since so many of these games are so good. If you don't have Dead Space yet, I'd really download that. Same with NBA Jam. Also, it's hard to really say which is Read More

Nintendo recently launched their 3DS mobile gaming system in Japan and it’s due to hit American shores quite soon. It’s the successor to the wildly popular DS and DSi, both of which introduced gamers to a new way of enjoying games thanks to the two screens, one of which being touch enabled. Satoru Iwata, the President of Nintendo, in a speech at the Game Developers Conference that’s currently taking place in San Francisco said that he thinks that game developers should focus on building games for dedicated devices versus being tempted to create cheap applications for smartphones. It’s easy to understand why he would say such a thing. Nintendo makes money with every piece of hardware they sell and in order to make a game for their system you as a developer need to give Nintendo a cut of your profits. There was once a time when you could say that Read More
When I think of Valentine’s Day I think of Cupid prancing around, shooting his arrows into people to help them fall in love, couples planning their days out with brunches, picnics, and an elegant dinner at a 5 star restaurant. I also think of the rest of you poor bastards who say that you’re fine with being single and you prefer your independence rather than reporting in with someone on everything you do, but let’s face it, you just haven’t found the right person yet. Instead of staying home and being miserable watching RomComs while eating a bucket of Turkey Hill ice cream, you can stay home and celebrate your independence by playing games all weekend long. If playing some fine iOS games is your idea of a good time, then you’ve come to the right place as a both EA Mobile and Gameloft have dropped the prices of their iOS Read More

After seeing a ton of success with their massive holiday 99¢ sale, the folks at EA Mobile are once again going on a discount binge. The Great Electronic Arts 99¢ Sale of 2010
Calendar16 Thu, 16 Dec 2010 12:23:29 UTC +00:00
It seems like whenever a holiday rolls around in the US, all of the major developers put their catalog of iOS games on sale in an effort to ride a wave of publicity into the top app charts. Electronic Arts is no stranger to this practice, and in observance of a very special holiday this Winter they have dropped a huge number of their games down to 99¢. Yes, that's right, EA is having a sale to celebrate forum moderator ImNoSuperMan's birthday. Just kidding. It's a Christmas sale. Or rather, a "Holiday" sale. Whatever the politically correct reason for this event is, the bottom line is that you can get a ton of EA games for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad for just a dollar each right now. (Note that some of these titles actually launched at 99¢, or have been that price for a while, but have been added to Read More

Happy Thanksgiving – Here Are a TON of Games on Sale
Calendar16 Thu, 25 Nov 2010 11:04:08 UTC +00:00
Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays, and has been all my life. What's there not to love about an entire day revolving around eating massive amounts of turkey, stuffing, and all the other fixings? Sure, I could do without needing to feign interest in football, but thankfully tryptophan overload usually allows me to sleep through all of that. If you're looking for something to do this year while you do your best to either pretend to be interested in football or anxiously wait for the food to be done, there are a ton of sales on the App Store to consider. The basis of this post comes from SirAwesome's awesome thread in our new price drops, freebies, and deals forum. He put together an extremely exhaustive listing of everything that's on sale, and the thread is good to stop by just to make sure you're not missing anything that might Read More

TUAW's Daily App: SimCity
Calendar16 Wed, 23 Jun 2010 13:00:00 UTC +00:00
Jun 23rd 2010 at 8:00AM Looks like the sale in only in the US app store (or at least C&C is not on sale in the NZ one). It's not in the UK one either. Shame! Since when did TUAW become a gaming magazine? I love the concept of an app of the day but it would be great if there were an option of filtering game reviews out of TUAW's otherwise relevant news feed... You and Jordan need to start up your own blog, call it iComplain. I hope they put these on sale because of an upcoming iPad version of the games... I'm getting sick of using FullForce on Trivial Pursuit... it makes the board full screen, but the questions and such still only occupy an iPhone-sized corner of the screen. I'm betting it's to bump their games up on the best sellers lists before all the new iPhone Read More
by Game-maker Electronic Arts (EA) is selling a big chunk of its iPhone game library for just $0.99 per game for the next 48 hours — a steep discount for many of its titles which include Madden NFL 2010, FIFA 10 and SimCity. Not all of EA’s games are on sale, though. Sure, SimCity is $0.99, but [iTunes link] is still a steep $6.99, and while FIFA 2010 is just $0.99, the more timely [iTunes link] hangs at $2.99 — though that’s not a bad price, either. EA is one of the world’s biggest game publishers. Its EA Sports line of games is at the top of the heap, and franchises like The Sims, Mass Effect and Medal of Honor have at one time or another led in sales or influence. Increasingly, the company has extended those franchises to mobile devices like the iPhone. The full list of games on sale Read More

Don’t Miss 48hr Electronic Arts App Sale!
Calendar16 Tue, 22 Jun 2010 17:53:15 UTC +00:00

The titles on offer are as follows, and clicking on a link will take you directly to iTunes. Many of these cost considerably more at launch, and titles such as Sim City, Need for Speed and Command & Conquer are certainly worth more than this low price given the polish those games have.  You have until midnight (US Eastern Time) on Wednesday 23rd June to download them for this price. EA Holding Massive $0.99 Sale for 48 Hours
Calendar16 Tue, 22 Jun 2010 14:04:00 UTC +00:00
EA is holding a massive $0.99 sale on over a dozen titles. The sale will only last 48 hours, so you have to act quickly. The games have been nicely organized by niezam into games that have never been $0.99 before, and ones that have (U.S. Links): $.99 for the first time $.99 once or several time before While all the games are good values for only $0.99, we'd probably say Need for Speed: Shift is the "must get" game from the list. It has frequently been cited as one of the best racing games for the iPhone, so it's a good one to have. So, I wrote iTunes (reported a problem) when I received my bill. And even though the game's info says that it's in English, and it's not, I was told that there is nothing that they can do for me, that the 'functionality of the game is Read More

'Need For Speed Shift' Car List and Screenshots Revealed
Calendar16 Wed, 09 Sep 2009 20:57:46 UTC +00:00
We don't have any details to report aside from what just appeared on the EA Mobile Facebook page, but these screenshots do look great, and it's hard to argue with such an extensive list of licensed cars. The console version of the game is due in September and unlike their previous Need For Speed title, Shift is more of a sim racer rather than an arcade racer. Official Car List: That's all we know right now, hopefully Need For Speed Shift doesn't have the same extremely long development cycle as Need For Speed Undercover [App Store] which wasn't released for quite some time after the early previews. We will post more information on this game as we receive it. Hi forum, we are happy to announce that paper wings is available in the iTunes App Store. A little late to the all out price slashing fiesta we saw last week, EA has since dropped the prices on a few of their games this afternoon. Need For Speed Undercover, $6.99 -> $4.99 - A mission-based racing game that had an insanely long development cycle that produced a game that was well worth waiting for. While Need For Speed Undercover runs great on previous-generation devices, it's on the short list of games you really should have if you want to stretch the graphical legs of your iPhone 3GS. At the higher framerate, the sensation of speed is even better. We enjoyed the game in our review, and along with Real Racing [App Store], Need For Speed is still one of the best full 3D racing games on the App Store. Wolfenstein RPG, $4.99 -> $2.99 - Originally produced by Id Software, ported to the iPhone by Firemint, and published Read More
EA has just placed some of their most popular iPhone and iPod touch games on sale, which should be nothing but great news for those of you looking for a new gaming experience to enjoy. August 18th, 2009 James Isabel Every now and then developers go insane with their price cuts. Lately, it’s been an amass of great games getting dropped to unbelivably low prices. It’s now EA Mobile‘s turn to go insane with these pricecuts. The long awaited racing game by Electronic Arts is finally released onto the App Store, and it was well worth the wait! The Need for Speed series is one of the most successful racing franchises ever since its first ever game in 1994… while this version is an iPhone first. The Sims 3 has been well awaited on the App Store with amazing hype. The game  has had the best release ever on the App Store, skyrocketing to the No.1 top paid app in less than 24 hours priced at the premium price of $9.99. Is the game worth the price? Industry giant EA isn't satisfied with dominating the premium iPhone game market with App Store blockbusters like The Sims 3 [App Store], Need For Speed Undercover [App Store], Tiger Woods PGA Tour [App Store], and other titles which have all flirted with various positions on the top sales charts. EA is now setting its sights on the 99¢ market, which is where their new "micro-studio", 8lb Gorilla comes in. 8lb Gorilla is a team of twenty-something year old developers set loose by EA executives, in their words, "on an island" to develop indie-style simple pick up and play iPhone games. These 8lb gorillas, backed by EA (the 800lb gorilla) plan on releasing these bite-sized games on a near-monthly basis, pending no delays with the App Store submission process. Their first entry in to this market is Zombies & Me. Instead of taking place in a post-apocalyptic world, the game is set Read More
EA Sales: 'Tiger Woods' and 'Need for Speed'
Calendar16 Tue, 16 Jun 2009 14:53:56 UTC +00:00
EA has recently dropped the price on two of its high profile titles: Tiger Woods and Need for Speed. Both are excellent games that were originally priced at $9.99 and are on sale temporarily for $6.99. We took a close look at both Tiger Woods and Need for Speed before. At the time of it's review, Need for Speed was declared the "best iPhone racer". That title has been a bit more highly contested since the release of Real Racing, however, but Need for Speed still delivers a very high quality and fun arcade racer. Need for Speed Tiger Woods The system is slow. I have to admit we are not quite prepared to handle thousands of game operation requests in one second. Q1, the time that the update is delivered by Apple, we updated the system as well, but a mistake happened the the system going very slow, some of Read More
Need For Speed Undercover Price Drop
Calendar16 Thu, 11 Jun 2009 21:37:47 UTC +00:00
Somehow, someway, the Need for Speed Undercover price drop slipped by us for a few days.  Hmm, I wonder why?  Could it have been because we were too busy focusing our attention on another racing game?  Do you think it is a coincidence that EA dropped the price of Need for Speed only moments before that “other” racing game hit the App Store?  It’s irrelevant really, all that matters is that you can save some cash. Need for Speed Undercover is a high-octane thrill ride of a racing game, so don’t expect a relaxing joyride through the countryside, this one is an arcade racer through and through.  The game features 20 licensed cars, 8 race modes, 24 covert missions with even more secret missions, and more. Need for Speed Undercover initially was available for $9.99, but it is now available in the App Store for only $6.99. Read More
Apps for Less: Peggle and Need for Speed Undercover

By Jeremy Sikora, Thursday, Jun 11, 2009 | It’s been a while since out last Apps for Less. It seems as if all the developers are working hard to put their final touches on updates for iPhone OS 3.0 rather than putting their application on sale. With that said, TiPb does have two applications that you may be very interested in picking up at lower prices. First up, a game that Rene is always raving about, ! [iTunes Link] is now on sale until June 14th for only $.99! That is a $4.00 price drop! If you are not familiar with this game be sure to check out our full Peggle for iPhone review for all the details. For our second pick this week we have one for all of you racing fans out there, . 'Real Racing' - Now THIS Is a Racing Game.
Calendar16 Tue, 09 Jun 2009 18:55:36 UTC +00:00
While Flight Control [App Store] may be Australian developer Firemint’s runaway hit, they’ve been hard at work for months on Real Racing [App Store]. Prior to last week, all we saw of Real Racing was a screenshot or new trailer randomly pop up here and there, leaving iPhone communities all over the internet speculating what the final product would be like. I’ve found most iPhone racing games somewhat unappealing. While accelerometer tilt controls translate great to driving controls, they’ve all just felt a little flat. EA’s recently released Need For Speed Undercover [App Store] came close to quenching my thirst for a great racer on the platform, but fell short for a number of reasons, in my eyes. Poor AI combined with races that were hard to lose had me quickly growing bored of the game, despite its doing a great job at capturing the Need For Speed feel on the Read More
Need For Speed Arrives on the iPhone in Style!

06.04.09        App Score: 9/10    Need for Speed: Undercover – For nearly 15 years and several generations of gaming hardware, the Need for Speed franchise has endured as a beloved arcade racing franchise for all gamers. Granted it has come in several different themes over the years (e.g. exotic cars, rally racing, street racing, police pursuits, etc.), the quality of the games has consistently been good to fantastic. Electronic Arts(EA) has brought over the popular franchise to the iPhone through it’s most recent entry in the series, Need For Speed: Undercover. While this title was released last holiday on all major consoles and handheld devices, I was nervous this version would suffer from a quick and dirty port. It turns out my fears were unsubstantiated as EA has unquestionably delivered one hell of a racing game. Need for Speed: Undercover places you in the role of an undercover Read More
Need For Speed Undercover
Calendar16 Tue, 19 May 2009 09:20:33 UTC +00:00
The Need For Speed series is top dog when it comes to fun, arcade racing on the most popular consoles today and now EA has released a version for the iPhone and Ipod Touch that looks to dominate mobile racing. Need For Speed Undercover features everything hardcore racers would expect from a racing game. It has a shop where new cars can be bought, an excellent steering system and some great looking graphics. Right from the get go, player will be introduced to the storyline. You are an undercover driver who basically needs to race your way to victory. Go figure. The controls are simple. Tapping on the screen breaks the car which is automatically accelerated by the game. Swiping up once will activate your nitro and give you that extra boost you may need. Swiping down on the screen will activate a kind of slow motion feature that will help Read More
Written by: Damon Sainter (Site) The long awaited racing game by Electronic Arts is finally released onto the App Store, and it was well worth the wait! The Need for Speed series is one of the most successful racing franchises ever since its first ever game in 1994 while this version is an iPhone first. Need for Speed Undercover ($9.99) Some previous reviews I have done on 2XL Supercross and Zen Bound have talked about how good their graphics are for a device like the iPhone. Need for Speed’s graphics are considerably above average for a PSP game. The graphics are backed up with equally good sound effects, cut scenes and amazing gameplay. The way Electronic Arts have totally recreated the game, not just ported over a watered down version of Need for Speed Undercover console version is superb. The controls for the game excellently use the touch screen and accelerometer Read More
By Rene Ritchie, Saturday, May 9, 2009 | Every week a few of us from team TiPb, bloggers and forum crew alike, will bring you our current favorite, funnest, most useful App Store apps, WebApps, jailbreak apps, even the occasional accessory, web site, or desktop app if the mood strikes us. As long as they’re iPhone (or iPod touch) related, they’re fair game. So who’s on deck this week and what are our picks? Find out after the break! Wow. By far the best graphics of any racing game on the iPhone. Easy controls, car customizations and different racing scenarios make this one a winner in my book. It may be a little pricey at $9.99 for some, but I consider this to be the FIRST console-quality game for the iPhone; a must buy for any iPhone gamer! It was a long time coming, but the greatest iPhone racer of them all has arrived in the App Store. We first caught wind of an iPhone installment of EA's highly popular and long-running racing franchise back in August, and after several delays, Need For Speed Undercover [App Store] has finally arrived.  Was it worth the wait?  Most definitely.  Let's take a look. NFS Undercover, in keeping with much of the franchise, is a mission-based racer, as opposed to the 'round-the-track variety.  As the title might suggest, you play the role of an undercover wheel man infiltrating a series of street racer / chop-shop gangs to try and bust an auto theft ring wide open.  Your point person is a seductive get-the-job-done savvy operative who guides you from mission to mission and gang to gang.  And the key to it all?  Own the road, screw with the cops, and just generally Read More
EA Releases Star Trek, SimSampler For iPhone

We may have to start setting aside time every morning to just give you a rundown of all things EA because we have another day filled with new EA iPhone game releases, and today’s offering is Star Trek and SimSampler. Star Trek for the iPhone and iPod touch is an officially licensed game based on the new film that puts you at the helm of the USS Enterprise as you attempt to seek and destroy your enemies.  There are special in-game appearances from Mr. Spock and Captain Kirk to help assist you in your journey.  You will also be interacting with all 3 races from the Star Trek universe: The Klingons, The Romulans, and The Cardassians.  If that isn’t official enough, the game also includes music from the original Star Trek soundtrack. The gameplay consists of top-down arcade shooting action.  You can control the USS Enterprise by using the iPhone’s accelerometer, a virtual Read More

EA just released Need For Speed Undercover, a surprisingly polished racer, to the iPhone App Store. Is it worth your $10? I've personally found most racing games on the iPhone to be seriously difficult to control, with the steering controls sending me veering back and forth across the track with no chance of winning. NFSU feels tighter, with a quick twist of the iPhone putting you into drift mode rather than sending you careening across the track. I actually got the hang of it pretty quickly. You accelerate automatically, with one finger anywhere on the screen acting as a brake. A quick swipe up is a nitro boost, while a quick swipe down puts you in Speedbreaker mode. The graphics are really solid, with no noticeable framerate hiccups and reasonable load times. They're easily as good as the graphics you'd expect to find on the PSP. The music is a bit Read More

NFS is worth the wait!!!!

Hands down the best driving game on itunes. This is the fastest and best driving game I have ever played on any mobile platform. This blows away any driving game on the PSP or DS. The cars are incredible and the depth of gameplay is ridiculous. Best $10 ever spent.
Good job EA

I like most racing games on my iPhone. But this is by far the best.
FINALLY!!!!

This game took its sweet time getting released, but the wait has well been worth it. This is by far the best racing game to be released in the app store so far, and likely for some time to come. I would post a longer review as to its positive qualities, but typing this is preventing me from playing it more. HA-ha!!

Very well done, but...
sclyde 5.0 stars Version: 1.1.28
I'd like to hear the engine sounds and tire screeches. The music is good, but it doesn't feel like a racing game without those elements. Otherwise, the game is pretty sweet from what I've played so far. Pretty solid graphics, nice controls.
Best Game EVER!!!!

This beats em all
E7ZAD1CATO7Z 5.0 stars Version: 1.1.28
The over all graphics engine and the well balence of the acceleromiter beats all racing games for the iPod, why buy a DSi when you buy an iTouch that pwns. You can't go wrong spending 9.99 for a game that you would spend 29.99 for the DSi. EA you've done it again! Can't wait for Sims 3!
Awesome!!!

Definitely THE best racing game on App Store!!!!
Not worth the wait

It is official. If you want to buy a car game for the iPhone, Need for Speed is the one to buy. The accelerometer controls work very well (not way too sensitive, just right), and the graphics are insane! This game looks like a PSP game! The amount of depth in this game is also very suprising! My only complaint for this game is that they need to add more cars. There are only 20 so far, but hopefully they add some more cars in future updates (2010 Chevy Camaro PLEASE!!!)
Sweetness

NFS:Undercover is the app to tease your non-iPhone having friends with. As awesome as Zen Bound, Rolando and other great iPhone originals are, they just don't have the recognition that Need For Speed has with non-Touch/iPhone gamers. The game sports FMV cutscenes, a blaring street racing sound track and some of the best iPhone graphics to this date and plays very well. It makes a strong argument that iPhone/Touch are far beyond just simple $1 apps and its the kind of experience that could easily translate to even more people abandoning their current smart phone or MP3 player just to get in on the action. The game isn't perfect, the auto-accelerate may annoy some. The tilt controls (in my opinion work great) have had some mixed response but if they simply update the app to let users customize the experience to game play preferences, they'll have a winner for all gamers. It sports multiple mission modes, plenty of cars, customizability (although lacking just a little of the extreme options that other versions have) that makes this a gem. I hope EA finds plenty of success with Tiger Woods and NFS:Underground as it could bring a few more big publishers to the iPhone and encourage current devs to make bigger, fuller game experiences. Its very good time to be an iPhone gamer.
Best racing title for the iPod/iPhone yet!
OSU FANATIC 5.0 stars Version: 1.1.28
After playing games such as Fastlane and Ferrari GT Evolution, I'd have to say this is the best racing game that the app store currently has to offer. Though I was not happy with the delay's that Electron Arts had, EA remains a solid app maker.
Aweful

Mac addict 42 2.0 stars Version: 1.1.28
Yes the graphics are great! And it is really fun and exciting for a while, but soon you begin to realize that you dont really feel totally in control. Then you try to hit a wall just to see if you can... And you can't!! Go ahead! I dare you to try and hit a wall! Then I dare you to just start a race and not turn at all! Just hit the nitro a few times, sit back and enjoy the un-fun feeling of not having to steer at all!! Yay what fun!! Auto steer!! Hooray!! I've won races like this!! Walls don't even slow you down! Of course I guess you'd have to actually be able to hit them for them to slow you down. I can't say I'm too surprised though. EA is more of a money mill than a quality game developed these days. And let's face it, as popular as the NFS franchise is, there are so many better racers out there. And this iteration is no exception. I can't believe I waited this long to pay for a game that let's me watch it race itself! Avoid if you actually want control over your car!!
Can I give this 10 stars?
SuperYendoR 5.0 stars Version: 1.1.28
I bought and played the other games, the Ferrari game, Asphalt 4... you name it. NOTHING comes close to this. It is as involving as the concole version if not more. It is truly amazing that they were able to do this much with a mobile device. In fact, I'm sure that the programmers at EA are also amazed. And I've never paid this much for an app, but I feel like I got over quite nicely. Thanks EA!!!
Holly Molly!
Grugenheimer 1.0 stars Version: 1.1.28
I bought this app about 6 hours ago and haven't put it down. It is a great racer with awesome graphics. There is the occassional hiccup during gameplay, but it is extremely minimal and doesn't influence overall performance. I'm hyper-critical of games and am well, well pleased with this one so far! :)
Dont buy
