Best iPhone and iPad Note-Taking Apps for Writers
Calendar16 Thu, 16 Jun 2011 17:35:30 UTC +00:00
There was a time when writers carried a notepad and pen with them, or left one on the nightstand for noting those midnight ideas.  Instead of carrying these two items around, the smartphone has become the modern day equivalent.  The standard iOS Notes app does for making very quick notes, but there are better apps out there if you’d like something a little more stylish and with a lot more functionality. Here are ten apps to help writers keep track of story ideas, character arcs, jokes or article headlines while out and about with their iPhone or iPad.  Instead of bundling in the old favorites – doesn’t everyone know that Evernote and Awesome Note are good by now? – we’ve gathered together some you may not have heard of before. Specifically for the iPad, Notes Plus lets you write your notes on the screen using your finger, plus annotate them with Read More

This is a review of the Notefile app for iPhone and iPad, released by JuneCloud, and guess where I’m writing this review? In Notefile, on the iPad, using the wireless bluetooth keyboard. JuneCloud has previously released some killer apps, most notably their Delivery Status app which has become the standard package tracking app in the App Store. Their latest release is Notefile which takes advantage of the awesome cloud syncing functionality built by JuneCloud and uses it for a note taking application. Notefile works as a universal binary on both the iPhone, and iPad and syncs your notes across both devices over the cloud. If you’re a Mac user, you can also download a free Dashboard widget that syncs your Notefile texts to and from your desktop. Finally, if you’re not at your computer, or on a Windows box, you can go to junecloud.com/sync and manage your notes from any web Read More

So Useful

This application is so great! I have been using Simplenote but when I noticed Junecloud was making this I knew it would provide a hassle free syncing experience and great design. This will not disappoint. The biggest additions I can think of would be:1) Ability to sort your list alphabetically2) Ability to pin most used lists to the topGreat just the way it is though!
Finally a great alternative to Mail notes

I had been using Apple's Mail notes on my mac and syncing with MobileMe, which was working out fairly well, until I started using Sparrow on my Mac for mail and it became much less of a convenience to open Mail just for notes. Junecloud seems to have taken the success of Delivery Status (which I also love) and applied it to notes by making a dashboard widget companion, which I've always felt is a much more elegant solution for notes than a full-blown app. The iPhone app is also a great replacement for Apple's Notes; it's simple, beautiful, and has an icon that is main homescreen worthy, which makes all the difference. The syncing seems to work great so far, as it always has for Delivery Status. Great work, Junecloud!
Beautiful. Fast sync

Great app. I would love to see a way to reorder notes and folders would be nice.
Another great app from Junecloud!

Been using Deliveries for years and Notefile is a wonderful addition to my iPad, iPhone and Mac! Keep them coming!
Wieder sehr nützlich

Nach "Lieferungen" die zweite sehr nützliche App, die sich herrlich über Macs, iPad und iPhone synchronisiert. Super wäre eine Sortiermöglichkeit und Einbindung in die Spotlight-Suche.
notefile rocks!

I love the syncing between Dashboard, my iPhone, and my iPad. The UI is beautiful, and the sync is transparent (just like Delivery Status). Apple should have built this into their system from the beginning.
It's so simple that makes it extraordinarily superb.

It has everything you need: simple and clean UI, seamless syncing, and intuitive ease of use. It would be absolutely perfect if there was a dedicated Mac client (because I'm afraid Dashboard widgets won't be very well supported in Mac OS X Lion).
Works well!

Quickly, effectively, and reliably.
Fail--Very limited functionality.

There is hardly anything to this app. It is feature poor. No settings are available for the user. The font is incredibly small on the iPhone and there is no way to change that. It is almost unreadable. The syncing works some of the time and you can't change any settings on the Junecloud web site either. I have one text note that simply doesn't sync no matter what you do. Bad! At best this is a .99 app. I think it still needs lots of work to even come close to the notes app that is free with the iPhone or iPad. BTW-There is little if any security. A poor, overpriced app.
Great notes app

Another wonderful app from Junecloud! Syncs perfectly with my Macs! I look forward to further enhancements from its creator!
