TiPb Picks of the Week
Calendar16 Sun, 07 Nov 2010 14:03:49 UTC +00:00
By Leanna Lofte, Sunday, Nov 7, 2010 | Every week a few of us from team TiPb will bring you our current favorite, funnest, most useful App Store apps, WebApps, jailbreak apps, even the occasional accessory, web site, or desktop app if the mood strikes us. As long as they’re iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch related, they’re fair game. To see what we picked this week, and to tell us your pick, follow on after the break! Deserving of a truly in-depth app review, I’m going with Cydia’s BiteSMS since I consistently list it as one of my three reasons for jailbreaking. BiteSMS replaces the messaging app, with tons of options (which is why it deserves more attention) including individual contact sms tones. As you can see from the screenie, it gives you contact pics with the message list as well as on incoming message. Of course, the option I like Read More

Powerybase is reporting a surprisingly drastic drop in sales of their previously popular and steadily-selling ToDo reminder app NotifiyMe following the release of iTunes 9. Their data shows a 20% to 30% hourly drop in sales following the update, which they say has been steadily growing as more people adopt iTunes 9. Powerybase blames the drop in sales on “bad interface design” in their opinion in the new App Store, ranging from navigation buttons in the new toolbar, the disappearance of sub-categories for games, and numerous other not-so-subtle differences that result in an overall unpleasant and difficult browsing experience. Some countries don’t even have categories for apps, only showing links to the App Store home page, according to the developer. Powerybase concludes that Apple has made many of these changes in an attempt to force developers to rely on using keywords to make their app visible instead of long names and Read More
iTunes 9’s New Interface Causing App Sales To Drop?
Calendar16 Fri, 11 Sep 2009 20:37:40 UTC +00:00
If you are anything like me, you probably couldn’t wait to start downloading iTunes 9 just so you could get some hands-on time with it. The thrill of first firing up a new piece of software can literally send tingles down your spine.  Hours can be spent digging around and messing with new features, but one developer thinks that these new features, this having to dig around is actually negatively affecting app sales. Powerybase, the developer of NotifyMe, has just posted an in-depth analysis on why they believe iTunes 9 is causing their app sales to drop by a hefty 20 percent.  Apparently it isn’t just one thing either, it’s quite a few things. The issue seems to be the new iTunes 9 interface.  iTunes 8 clearly displayed all app categories, such as games, finance, entertainment, and what have you, on the left-hand side of the screen.  iTunes 9, however, hides Read More

App Review: NotifyMe
Calendar16 Tue, 18 Aug 2009 04:02:26 UTC +00:00
Push. We have been waiting on the release of Push Notifications since Apple announced it last year. Well September of ’08 came and went without a bang, but with the coming of 3.0 we finally have access to it. So of course we should be seeing a lot of apps with push support coming out. To my delight the DEVs over at PoweryBase released a little gem called NotifyMe. Dubbed the first push notification Todo app. Well I have to say, it lived up to my expectations. I really didn’t get into ToDo apps because I’m too lazy to open an app to find out what I need to get accomplished. I knew Push would definitely solve the problem if ever released. So what does NotifyMe do that other ToDo apps don’t? It provides a simple and minimalistic solution for getting stuff done. The ease of use with NotifyMe has got Read More

NotifyMe
Calendar16 Fri, 24 Jul 2009 20:20:56 UTC +00:00
NotifyMe is an application that uses Apple new push notification service to easily set up reminders on your phone. The app gives users the ability to input some text, tag a label onto it, and the set a time. Once this is set up, the app will then push a notification to the user at the set time with an alarm so that they will be reminded of the event. The app works exactly how it claims to work and really is an awesome idea. But wait... there is something that already does this on the iPhone. The calendar app will notify users of upcoming events if they set an alarm on it. So really, what's the need for NotifyMe? I can't think of anything. NotfiyMe requires an internet connection to work, without a signal, the app will not send a reminder. The calendar app doesn't require the internet and will Read More

Minor bug and could use a few updates
Jrmsafia17 3.0 stars Version: 1.0
I think this app is cool. But when you look at an overview of your reminder(I.e. Birthdays) the date that shows is incorrect. You have to open the actual reminder to see the correct date, which is a pain if you need to check on a birthday real quick. Also, I think that they should add a "Appointments" category with an option to input the actual appt time and to set the reminder a few minutes/hours/day before. Right now I'm adding the appt time in my description, since the time you choose is for the actual reminder. Once these are fixed it will be perfect.
Good, needs little things
flyingember 4.0 stars Version: 1.0
needs custom categories and a little more customization. Other than that it works as described
Beautiful Application
RonSell 4.0 stars Version: 1.0
This application looks very good. Does just what it says. I wish it had a "snooze" button, so I can put off a reminder easily.
Crazy useful
Notratched 4.0 stars Version: 1.0
This app will replace TextLater for me because I used that app to text myself for reminders. The shortcoming was that I couldn't ever see the list of reminders I would be sending myself (and it uses up text messages, although mine are unlimited so that part didn't bug me). This app lets you set reminders with very little effort, and the push has worked fine for me for several days. It bogs down a little on startup while it connects to the push servers, but there is probably little that the developer can do to fix that. Things I hope change in upcoming versions: (1) ability to customize categories, (2) choice of tone and volume [this one will wake the dead and is independent of my overall volume setting], and (3) badge count indicator. Finally, if the app had some kind of Web sync and an option to have tasks without reminders, it could be a stand-alone to-do app---but that might be trying to change this solid one-trick pony into something it was never intended to be.
It not worth for $4
Hoahkkkk 1.0 stars Version: 1.0
This app doesn't work like they said .The time reminder alert not arrive on time

jasunto 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
Fast and easy, better than wasting time making calendar events.
Exactly what I needed
Hease 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
Much faster than creating a calendar entry, in just a couple of quick steps a new reminder is created. Works perfect for keeping track of the 100 things that pop up in a day that have to get taken care of - just what I needed.
Perfect.
matthiggins 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
Fast, easy, awesome. Try the free version, then BUY THIS. Way better than hastling with the Calendar app.
This app is awesome!!!
Robert Peralta 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
Finally, one app that does Todo (GTD style) with real Push Notification. Thanks to NotifyMe, I replaced two apps off my iPhone that does exact thing. Keep up the great work! Robert Peralta
Perfect but perverse
too-simple 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
It fills a need none of the todos or calendar fill: being able to specify a reminder time. It's odd that the calendar won't let you make alarms at the time of the event. However, it makes me laugh that push be used for something like this. You write an event on your phone. It syncs to the server. Then the server pushes it to you. What a waste! That's like mailing yourself a letter for a reminder instead of writing it on a post-it. I know this is apple's fault, but it still makes me laugh.
Good idea. Push doesn't work.
J180 3.0 stars Version: 1.0
Good layout and very simple. For some reason push doesn't work for me on iPhone 3g with 3.0. Full bars and all settings correct. Emailed the dev and waiting to hear back. Will up my rating if I can get push working.
Simple and Works Great
Ding.Dong 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
This app does what it does very well. You set a date and time to be reminded and then you get a notification at that time. It's simple and easy to use, and the notifications arrive at the correct time every time. Highly recommended.
Works
Sam2294 4.0 stars Version: 1.0
But I just realized I just paid to have a second copy of the calender.app :(
Work's Great!!
Mr Potters 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
Super fast and easy to put in a reminder. I like the way you can re-order the same reminder for a later time very quickly. The simplicity and speed of reminders are it's best features. Great job!!
99%, I think it missed one notification
Loco12345 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
I think it missed one notification but this is great for simple todos. I don't think I would count on it for important items. More like get some toilet paper on the way home, but it works great, very simple and fast to use.
Very useful app
kjellr 4.0 stars Version: 1.0
This is a very useful app. I wish the notification sound could be customized, but other than that it's wonderful. Thanks!
Upcoming Reminders doesn't work making this app use~less: 5* Rotten Apple Award
Hoosier1b 1.0 stars Version: 1.0
One of the major features of this app is the "Upcoming Reminders" feature and it is completely inaccurate. For example, if you type in a new reminder for the future date of November 12, 2009 and save it then you'll see a very unrelated and random date such as August 25, 2009 in the Upcoming Reminders feature. Very frustrating to have paid top dollar for this useless app...while amazed and even more disappointed that the Apple-iTunes folks let this one slip by with a MAJOR bug! How do you get your $$ back?
Better than expected!
Navec 4.0 stars Version: 1.0
I wasn't sure if applications like this made sense since any reminder can be entered in the calendar, including a snooze option. But this is fast, and works better than the calendar on the fly. $4.00 is steep. That makes it a 4.
It's not worth $3.99 compared to the free version.
Mybags 2.0 stars Version: 1.0
This app is just ok. You should be able to have a "repeat ring" function and you do not. You should be able to have a custom ring function and you do not. The reminder sound goes off just once, but the reminder is still on the screen. If you miss the reminder sound, you won't know about a reminder until you turn the phone on and see it on the screen. For $3.99 compared to the free version, it should do allot more.
Good but can use improvements
HyperGoku 4.0 stars Version: 1.0
This is an excellent 1.0 version that is both useful and easy to use. That being said, here are a few recommendations: • repeating notifications • being able to mark a task as 'done' from the notification screen, instead of simply 'passed' since it is unclear whether the task was accomplished or not • new icon; the "!" is fine but that is an unsightly brown background
★★★★★
woolyfork 5.0 stars Version: 1.1
AWESOME push-goodness!
Love it, works great.
Bts1225 5.0 stars Version: 1.1
Just got even better with the update. I love this app. This is something I have been wanting on this phone ever since I bought it. I will be using this all the time and this app is on my first page of my phone. The push notifications work great also. Every notification has been on time. Even future reminders have worked great and have been on time. Thanks for creating an easy reminder app. Buy this now. If your not sure try the free version first.
Upcoming dates now correct
JimAtVerizon 3.0 stars Version: 1.1
Being able to look at the upcoming event dates is IMPORTANT. Thanks for fixing them. I have raised my rating to reflect that.
Can' seem to turn reminder off! did a try out, dismissed/snooz/deleted it and it went off 5x's until

Why "No Snooze" Kills App
Eye4Problems 2.0 stars Version: 1.2
I was really excited when I saw this app, so I purchased it. While the app works exactly as advertised, this seems to be its' "BIGGEST DOWNFALL" in real life useage. While the app has the potential to be ideal for someone who has a hectic schedule, that is where the "Achilles Heel" of the program kicks in to miss the reminders you are paying for in this program. For example, if you are busy with anything on your iPhone when the reminder appears (especially if it's an urgent or time sensitive reminder) you are given only two choices: 1) to exit whatever you are doing to go automatically to the "Notify Me" app, or, 2) To acknowledge you received the reminder which disappears forever from the screen. (Only making the choice acknowledging the reminder allows you to procede with the matter you were attending to on your iPhone's screen. There is no snooze option; hence the reminder disappears with no further opportunity to get that reminder. Choosing the other option automatically kicks you out of anything you were doing on the iPhone) It would seem that it would be easy to add a "repeating snooze option" just as others have done such as Apple has done in the "Alarm Section" of the clock that has come on the home page with every iPhone sold since the original iPhone was first released. "WITHOUT THE SNOOZE, CHANCES ARE, iT'S THOSE IMPORTANT REMINDERS YOU'LL LOSE."
My list of simple requests...
deeveeoh 3.0 stars Version: 1.2
1) snooze alert (with ability to set snooze duration in settings) 2) notify by hour ( IE - so we can set a notification to take certain meds every 4 hours, etc.) 3) add a custom category (again, so we can add a category like "medications") Implement these for 5 stars, please!
Pretty good
Pattipeanut 3.0 stars Version: 1.2
How about a snooze button!!!!
Need snooze reminder
AddictedToApps777 4.0 stars Version: 1.2
This is great for a reminder once a day but what about of I want it to repeat every 30 min????? Please fix this and I'm sureore people will catch on!
Snoozing is working fine for me
AndreasMonty 5.0 stars Version: 1.2
Not sure what other guys below are "smoking", but snoozing is accessible using the "View" button. I use it since version 1.0, I just scroll the wheel and hit Save to update the reminder. It's not that convient as it could be, I agree, but since I've already had a chance to test NotifyMe 1.3 beta just today (joined their Twitter private betatest team), I have to say the new Snoozing feature in 1.3 is great. I highly recommend this app to everybody. The communication with developers and their willingness to discuss customers' suggestions is perfect.
AWESOME
Mikael222 5.0 stars Version: 1.2
Exactly what I was looking for since first iPhone came out. I'd like to create my own categories and set custom reccurings though. After suggesting these features to the developers I was assured they will be available soon. Looking forward to future version!
Simple but good at what it does
titan4 5.0 stars Version: 1.2
NotifyMe is good example of clean an simple app. It does only one thing but it does it good. Sure there are some missing functions but dev team is very responsive and they are implemenring requested features.
Great App
fazor 5.0 stars Version: 1.2
Very useful application. Allows you to set reminders, that are then delivered by Push. I’ve been using bulit-in Apple Calendar before, but this app is much faster and allows me to view “Upcoming” and “Recent” reminders in one tap. Another great feature is Categories, thought I would like to create custom ones. But what I love most about it, is the beautiful and simple interface with large text and buttons, I can’t believe this app wasn’t developed by Apple.
Reminder with a brain
Marnoldi 5.0 stars Version: 1.2
this program is working with the latest push program that alerts you on-time of any scheduled event with a pop-up alert, giving a unique loud sound that can be heard even in a crowded room. The ease of addind alerts & deleting old ones makes this easy to use with different pre-assigned categories. I used several other schedulers & was not impresssed. Notifyme allows you to set a time within a 5 minute interval. In order to receive alerts, you need to be connected to Wifi, 3G or edge so that the Apple server can send the signal to your phone. Several improvent ideas were met with enthusiasm and being implemented in future updates. All this convinced me to change from the Free to a paid program. Agreat program with many add-ons coming in future versions.
Great App (with more to come)
devildog820 4.0 stars Version: 1.2
This is a great reminder app. Far less expensive than others I tried (Remember the Milk, et al), NotifyMe does what it's supposed to do and remind you of things you need to do. While the Calendar app does provide reminders, it's not as quick or clean to type them in. Plus they mix with other events when viewing the list.
Amazing!
eapr 4.0 stars Version: 1.2
This app does everything it claims to, and is bug-free which is a plus. The only main suggestions I have are a few selections for alert tones, and change the icon/interface color. The brown honestly looks horrible, but obviously doesn't affect the funtionality so it still gets 4/5 stars.
Great App
Freefer 4.0 stars Version: 1.2
Great app! It's creation helped lure me over from Blackberry. I would love to have a snooze button, and a little area to put some notes for each reminder.
Amazing!
SuperLRD 4.0 stars Version: 1.2
Does everything it claims and with the upcoming updates, will be even better. I had issues in the beginning and they emailed immediately with an apology. The bugs were fixed and it's now right on my first page. Totally worth it!
Best Push Notification right now!
Itouch fan3 4.0 stars Version: 1.2
I've tried everything and this has satisfied me the most. I'm looking forward in upcoming update. Snooze will be awesome as well as notes and advanced reminders.
Ok, but expected more
Renck 2.0 stars Version: 1.2
I see some of my initial gripes will be fixed in the next update, but here is what I would have liked to have seen: 1. Grouping upcoming events by timeframe, eg this week/next 2 wks/month/3 months/year. I don't like seeing all events in one big list. 2. Updating scroll wheels for date entry. Scheduling something up to say 364 days in advance currently requires having to scroll through everyday. Would be better to see 3 scroll wheels: month/day/year (or a monthly calendar type interface where you just select the day by touching screen once), then keyboard inputs for time where applicable. Eg, for birthdays, you should not have to input a time. 3. Syncing with iPhone calendar - where we may have entered events into Calendar pre-notifyme days, have notifyme ask if you want to sync with calendar first. 4. Similar to 3. above, could notifyme work with MobileMe?
Need to sign up for account
JazzCritic 1.0 stars Version: 1.2
Well hidden in your description. Really annoying. Stupid me for buying.
Not so great
Ronquera 1.0 stars Version: 1.2
Battery usage is HORRIBLE! I normally could go two days with normal phone usage but after I installed "Notifyme" I went two days in a row where my phone was DEAD by 3pm! The day after I uninstalled the program I was back to regular battery use of two days+... And before anyone asks, I DID turn off the "push" notifications.
The best gets better!!
Paco II 5.0 stars Version: 1.3
NotifyMe was already the best app of its kind available (I've bought most of them!), but this latest update makes it even better. Web access is super convenient. Snooze option is great to have. But best of all is how responsive and helpful the developer is.
PERFECT To Do app for me!
Supernatural Woman 5.0 stars Version: 1.4
After trolling around for the perfect To Do app that wasn't complicated and did alerts like my old PDA did with DateBook, I FOUND EVERYTHING I needed in this simple, but EXTREMELY useful app! I needed an app that would allow me to see my To Dos in a list. I can do more complex organizing with the categories if I wanted to, but am not restricted to it which many To Do apps do. I'm a little organized, not SUPER DUPER organzied. My needs are simple and basic and this fit the bill perfectly! Only thing I'd ask for is that sometimes, like doing my monthly timesheets, I need to set up reminders for every 1st Tuesday of the month. If that can be added, then I would be completely in heaven!
Nice app wish it had flexible alerts
KimSB in LA 4.0 stars Version: 1.4
Love setting reminders, but wish alerts were more flexible. If I want to be reminded 10 days before the event and then again 2 days before the event, how do I set that up?
Amazing app...
