How to Enable OmniFocus Siri Reminders on iPhone 4
Calendar16 Sat, 14 Apr 2012 11:00:23 UTC +00:00
OmniFocus for iPhone is a great productivity tool. With Apple’s new iPhone OS came integration with Reminders and Siri. When enabled, OmniFocus will check the Reminders app for new tasks, add them to your Inbox, and remove them from your Reminders list. This holds true for Reminders created using Siri in addition to those entered manually. However, for some reason, The Omni Group limited the powerful new iOS 5 integration to iPhone 4S users. The good news is if you’re an iPhone 4 user, you can enable Reminders and Siri integration with a little bit of preference file editing. This trick does not affect the OmniFocus app’s performance, stability or existing functionality. Here’s how to do it… This tutorial the iFile app from Cydia, but there are certainly other ways to accomplish the steps. Now you are able to turn on the new features within the app. Here’s how. It doesn’t Read More

TUAW Best of 2011 wrap-up and editor picks
Calendar16 Sat, 07 Jan 2012 01:00:00 UTC +00:00
It's January 6th, 2012, and today marks the end of the TUAW Best of 2011 awards. This was a massive undertaking, with 25 separate categories all requiring their own nominations and voting from our readers. We've learned some lessons for next year's event -- start earlier, watch for astroturfing in the nominations, drop some unpopular categories -- and the Best of 2012 will be even better. The editorial staff here at TUAW agreed with many of the reader picks, but we had our own opinions on some others. We want to thank all of the thousands of TUAW readers who took time to consider their favorite accessories and apps, nominate them for an award, and then vote in the competition. Without further ado, here's the full list of winners as well as our picks for the TUAW Best of 2011: Editor picks: 13" and 11" MacBook Air, 13" MacBook Pro Peripheral Read More
The nominations are in, and the poll is ready to go! The TUAW Best of 2011 awards are all about you -- the readers -- and what you think is the cream of the crop of Apple or third-party products and software. To vote, select one entry from the top nominations made by readers. We'll be announcing the winner in just a few days. Vote early and often! TUAW is asking for your votes for the best iPhone productivity app of 2011. Our readers provided a plethora of nominations in this category, but five apps really stood out. Springpad (free) captured the lion's share of the nominations for its easy to use interface, customizable notebooks, and ability to sync across platforms. A dark horse was ISMEStorage (US$4.99) a comprehensive cloud and local file manager that supports cloud services from Amazon S3 to Zimbra Briefcase and just about everything in between. The Read More
OmniFocus Gains Siri Support and iCloud Syncing
Calendar16 Sun, 20 Nov 2011 15:00:10 UTC +00:00
For those that really take todo systems seriously, the OmniFocus app is often at the top of the list for getting things done. With a suite of apps that covers the Mac, iPad and iPhone, OmniFocus creators The Omni Group have created a real powerhouse of applications that many swear by. In the latest update for the iPhone version of their OmniFocus app, the developers at The OmniGroup have taken Apple’s lack of a Siri API and gone all Chuck Norris on it. Instead of waiting for Apple to give them permission to use Siri to create tasks, they have linked OmniFocus with iCloud, which in turn gives the app full access to reminders created using iOS 5′s built-in Reminders app. The end result? You can now tell Siri to create reminders in OmniFocus… Setting the thing up doesn’t really need a degree in computer science. Update to the latest release and Read More
OmniFocus + Siri
Calendar16 Fri, 18 Nov 2011 22:45:32 UTC +00:00
Siri puts things into Reminders; you’ll have to sync your Reminders with iCloud and launch OmniFocus so it can capture them from iCloud. (We don’t have access to the local Reminders database on the device.) Read More
Homescreens – Oktober 2011 (iPhone + iPad)

Außerdem verstecken sich in Read More
OmniFocus gets iOS 5 location-based reminders
Calendar16 Wed, 12 Oct 2011 05:00:00 UTC +00:00
OmniFocus has updated its popular OmniFocus for iPhone and OmniFocus for iPad apps. The updates bring iOS 5 compatibility and the usual bug fixes, but they also bring a very cool new feature OmniFocus users are sure to love: Location Reminders. Using iOS 5′s geo-fencing APIs, both the iPad and iPhone OmniFocus apps will now alert you to a reminder when you are in the appropriate area. This is the same feature found in Apple's Reminders app, included with iOS 5. However, OmniFocus doesn't just duplicate the features already found in Apple's Reminders app. It's added some more of its own; as noted by MacStories, OmniFocus offers more options than Reminders, including more granular control over your location settings. Though the OmniFocus updates are available now, users will have to wait until they have iOS 5 up and running on their devices to take advantage of them. OmniFocus for iPhone is Read More
ToDo-App: ‘The Hit List’ mit Sync-Abo
Calendar16 Thu, 07 Jul 2011 09:26:36 UTC +00:00
Sherlocked?
Calendar16 Wed, 29 Jun 2011 03:43:37 UTC +00:00
By Rene Ritchie, Tuesday, Jun 28, 2011 | Apple’s iOS 5 built-in a lot of new, basic functionality previously filled by 3rd party App Store apps, which effectively “Sherlocked” those apps, rendering them redundant in a post-iOS 5 world. Or did it? There’s a world of difference between basic functionality that serves the needs of only the most casual user, and advanced functionality with enough control and features to satisfy a hardcore pro. What Apple did with iOS 5, as with previous generations of iOS, is take away the entry-level business of several prominent 3rd party apps, but still left them with the premium, higher order market. While it’s always dangerous creating an enterprise based on glaring functionality holes Apple will almost certainly fill at some point in the future, there’s just as much opportunity building a great product that Apple’s entry into the space can benefit. BusyToDo und 2Do: zwei Aufgaben-Apps mit MobileMe-Sync
Calendar16 Sat, 25 Dec 2010 15:51:39 UTC +00:00
Die Cultured Code-Aufgabenverwaltung ‘Things‘ stellte kürzlich in einem Blogbeitrag eine ‘Over-the-Air’-Synchronisation in Aussicht (“The final release of cloud sync as part of Things is still off by a few months.”). Die Ankündigung als ‘verspätet’ zu bezeichnen, entbehrt jeder Untertreibung wenn man sich die Versprechungen zur Desktop-Version aus dem Oktober 2008 (!) noch einmal vor Augen führt: Needless to say that we gonna implement multiple Mac syncing with MobileMe – and maybe also without it. The release of Things 1.0 is scheduled for January 2009 and we hope to be able to include multiple Mac syncing. But I can’t guarantee this.
Homescreens – Dezember 2010 (iPhone + iPad)

Posted 04/29/2010 at 1:56pm | by Ray Aguilera With 185,000 apps and counting, the App Store is a vast warehouse of digital goodies for your iPhone (and now iPad too). But like most mega-marts, the sheer size of it all makes the good stuff harder to find. We’ve scoured the Store, and found the best apps to help you use your iPhone to it’s fullest potential. Whether it’s games you seek, or productivity tools, we’ve got you covered. As it turns out, there really is an app for that, no matter what that is. The iPhone and iPod touch brought back fun to videogaming, with developers focussing on innovation, affordability, and novelty. The Omni Group‘s Ken Case made it very clear that the company was committed to iPad development with his iPad or Bust! blog post, and today we found out just how serious they are.  OmniGraffle, one of the company’s flagship applications, has already been submitted and approved by Apple, and will be available for iPad App Store’s grand opening on April 3rd. Case highlighted in his iPad or Bust! blog post that the Omni Group had already started developing iPad-specific versions of OmniGraffle and OmniFocus the very first day the iPad’s SDK was available.  The question at the time was, which would come first and when?  That question has now been answered. OmniGraffle is the Omni Group’s diagram creating app for Mac OS X.  The app allows you to easily create engaging graphical documents to be used for almost any project; whether you are just making a quick sketch or a massive technical figure, it should do the trick.  Because of Read More

Great for power users of GTD; big disappointment for others
Ihnatko 3.0 stars Version: 1.0
Don't buy this unless you're already a user and fan of the desktop edition of OmniFocus.
Very Close to the Perfect App
Someone Else's Joe 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
I was a little disappointed to see OmniFocus at $19.99 after paying the big bucks for the Mac version only about a year ago, but this app is worth every penny. OmniGroup did an incredible job, and thought of everything.
OmniFocused Explained
HullBody 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.1
So I installed this and thought the location feature was cool... I then downloaded a trial of the desktop software and followed the sample tasks directions to learn about omnifocus, including watching their intro video that explains it. It is not that complicated once you have them show you around like that. There are several simple checklist software for the iPhone available, if that is what you are looking for, go elsewhere.
Great start!
Homunc 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
It may be a little pricier than other apps, but if you really want to do GTD the way it's supposed to be done, you can't beat OmniFocus. There are certainly improvements that can be made on both the desktop and iPhone app, but the great thing about the Omni Group is that you know they will. I'm still eagerly anticipating being able to sync my desktop and iPhone version, but it's pretty clear to me that the iPhone version itself is so good it can (and most likely will) be used as a stand alone app for many users. Great job guys, and keep up the great work!
Omni Group brings excellence to iPhone
Dr. Bertz 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
The Omni Group has done a terrific job of bringing their OmniFocus application to the iPhone. This is what you've been waiting for with regards to task management on the iPhone. For those who don't use OmniFocus under Mac OS X - don't fret. OmniFocus works fantastically as a stand-alone iPhone app. Highly recommended, with or without the desktop companion.
Slow, too slow
mahuti 3.0 stars Version: 1.0
I have a large database, and this mobile version of the app is a little slow. It's almost unusably slow. Each page is slow to load and the startup time is pretty terrible. I'm guessing that the app wouldn't be so sluggish with a smaller database, but the standard omnifocus user probably has a pretty big selection of stuff, so I'm a bit disappointed with the speed. Other than that, it's probably what you'd expect. High quality, but needs a faster processor.
Doesn't easily sync with desktop counterpart
Rebort 1.0 stars Version: 1.0
Caution: As of today, this app does not easily sync your data with its desktop counterpart.
Works great even without desktop version.
mummey 4.0 stars Version: 1.0
I'm currently using the iPhone version by itself because I'm waiting for version 1.1 of the desktop verion before purchasing. The iPhone version works great on it's own. I look forward to being able to sync with my mac's once 1.1 is ready.
Great product, worth the money
mrzarquon 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
For me the biggest feature OmniFocus provides (besides syncing with the desktop version) is location based todo lists. Most days of my life are full of the "where am I and what should I be doing right now" instances, and this app provides this functionality. $19.95 is more than worth it for me.
Great for a seasoned GTD user, for the rest, try Things
jakehgonzales 2.0 stars Version: 1.0
Thankfully, I took the less expensive way out on this software trial. I laid out the $20 for the iPhone based version (as a trial wasn't offered), and then downloaded the Sneaky Peek version of OF from the OmniGroup website (which costs another $80 in addition to the $100 me.com subscription needed to sync over-the-air).
Great product, I'd give it 10 stars if I could.
Gino G 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
This is a terrific product. A good compliment if you have the full version on your Mac but also very good on its own.
Awesome App!
brian6504 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
I love OmniFocus on my Mac and now having it on my iPhone is totally invaluable. The interface is great and the sync works very well. It's so good it makes me wonder if I'll be using the desktop version much!
This app alone makes buying a iphone worthwhile.
ohtinsel 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
Working with this app for 1 day has improved my life. I've been using OmniFocus on my mac since it came out, but putting in on my iphone where I actually do things is a sanity saver for me. Thanks OmniGroup!
Fantastic app
briankc 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
This is a fantastic app that works seamlessly with its desktop counterpart. The location aware features are a real boon. Well worth the $20, particularly considering how much this will save you in productivity.
Might be nice... if it worked.
EandIsMom 2.0 stars Version: 1.0
Okay, so it seems to me that most people who have reviewed this were either out to kill it and sing its praises. I am here to do neither, just give you the unvarnished facts of my experience. I bought the desktop version of this around the first of the year and liked it. I was looking forward to getting this on my phone since work has me at lots of locations. So imagine my thrill when the upgrade was available and I could plunk down my $20 for this app. Well the fun ends there. I cannot migrate my database... so I have to start over I guess. You can currently use this only with their "sneaky-peaky" alpha version... which I found out after banging my head against the wall, and inspite of upgrading to an alpha (cough) and accepting that I would have to recreate all my data because nothing can read the old format... I still cannot get it to sync. I left SWQA to not have to do this for hours at a time. I understand I am on the bleeding edge and expected a few snags along the way, right now though I feel I should have just burned the $20 on my front lawn it would have been as productive and I could have watched the pretty colors.....
Finally a true GTD electronic application
yolc 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
Finally an electronic application that adheres to the David Allen GTD methodology. Thanks for porting this to the iPhone and the Mac app is great as well. It is well worth the price.
Excellent application, well worth the price
Danilo_ 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
Don't know what to say about these whiney reviews that don't like the price. If you want a serious app for keeping track of tasks, this is it. Like everything Omnigroup does, it's really well executed. Bravo.
This is sooo good....now I can dump my wife!!!
Steven Stone 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
I never thought that I could be so organized! Plus it is simple with pretty colors!
An Honest Review
jasoninspired 4.0 stars Version: 1.0
This is my first review ever. I just had to say that shifting from a paper-based GTD program to utilizing my iPhone is incredible. I've tried iGTD (the app), using Smart Folders on Mail, even considered loading in "Things" but all I wanted was a trusty system of handling my stuff. I initially thought the app was a little too pricey at $20 but now that I have it, I would have paid $40 or so for it. Yes, it is somewhat of a disadvantage that it can only sync through your MobileMe (.Mac iDisk) or OmniFocus (real app) but the fact that it gives us options to "create a new database" is extremely helpful. I found the function "nearby contexts" extremely powerful where at one push anything related to your to do list gets integrated within your physical location (ex. inbox: buy loaf of bread ---> one push of nearby context button : shows us nearby groceries from where we are). Check out the intro video for yourself. I read some comments regarding the possible complexity of it & yes it is somewhat foreign especially if you haven't read the book yet; but for anybody who did and found the book life-changing, I would totally recommend this app.
Not the product for me
synerage 2.0 stars Version: 1.0
I was excited about this product, especially since it had received an Apple Design Award in 2008 for the best iPhone productivity application. Now, I just feel like I wasted $20.
The application I have wanted
leo2geo 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
This app is the best app and a bargain at $19.99. Much more than a to do app. It implements David Allen's GTD perfectly. Must have for busy people.
Great app as expected except. . .
gravescp 4.0 stars Version: 1.0
I missed the sync options. Silly me I thought it would work over the sync cable. I had to open a mobile me account in order to use it. That out of the way it is a great program and works great with the desktop application. Would recommend for anyone.
This is the only GTD app you'll ever need!
shockerspaz 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
...and the sync to the desktop app works flawlessly! Thanks Omni Group.
this app ROCKS
ientis 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
The fine folks at Omni Group have extended their exceptional OmniFocus application to the iPhone. The sync works great and the mobile app is very solid. Great job and thanks!
Like all of the other products this company makes - THIS ROCKS
zzzzliu 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
Forget all of the other "to do" and "list" apps available - this one really does it all, and is great for very small lists of things to get done and extremely intricate and complicated long-term projects. You can see items from the POV of their hierarchies (that you create), AND in terms of "context"... For example, if several of your projects all require shopping, you can tag items under a "shopping context" (which can be as elaborate as you like), allowing you to get a list of "things I get to go to the store for..." across all projects with just a few clicks! Definitely worth the $$$. Syncs great with multiple computers (I use it at work and at home, and everything is kept up to date no matter where I am) if you have a .Mac (er, MobileMe) account.
