Microsoft OneNote Goes Mobile But Not Much Else
Calendar16 Mon, 27 Feb 2012 18:35:11 UTC +00:00
, which is a note taking and sharing program available in Microsoft Office 2010 and as a web app, is now available as a mobile app for iPhone and iPad. OneNote has some pros and is a good snag for heavy Office users with PCs, but it is far from a perfected note sharing application and may cause cross-platform users to wonder (again) if Microsoft and Apple will ever play nice. To employ OneNote, users will need to have a Windows Live ID. Notes can be taken on the mobile app and they are automatically synced with OneNote or the OneNote web app on Sky Drive. You can choose to share the notes with others or make them available only to yourself. Notes can viewed and edited on the Sky Drive version or within OneNote in Microsoft Office 2010 for PCs. One thing to take note of though, is that OneNote Read More

Best iPhone and iPad Note-Taking Apps for Writers
Calendar16 Thu, 16 Jun 2011 17:35:30 UTC +00:00
There was a time when writers carried a notepad and pen with them, or left one on the nightstand for noting those midnight ideas.  Instead of carrying these two items around, the smartphone has become the modern day equivalent.  The standard iOS Notes app does for making very quick notes, but there are better apps out there if you’d like something a little more stylish and with a lot more functionality. Here are ten apps to help writers keep track of story ideas, character arcs, jokes or article headlines while out and about with their iPhone or iPad.  Instead of bundling in the old favorites – doesn’t everyone know that Evernote and Awesome Note are good by now? – we’ve gathered together some you may not have heard of before. Specifically for the iPad, Notes Plus lets you write your notes on the screen using your finger, plus annotate them with Read More

OneNote for iPhone Review: Overly Simple Note Taking
Calendar16 Wed, 19 Jan 2011 22:30:23 UTC +00:00
Yesterday, Microsoft launched its first Office app for iOS, a mobile version of the digital notebook application OneNote. If you’ve never heard of it, it may be because you’re using the Mac version of Office, which lacks OneNote, greatly reducing the usability of the iOS app. Microsoft asserts that “78 million PCs in the U.S. have OneNote,” which, while not the same thing as having 78 million users, is still impressive. But the pool of potential overall Microsoft Office users from Mac and PC is more impressive still. Having tried OneNote, I’d suggest it may be the “practice” Office iOS app for Microsoft, before the team attempts to bring in that larger user base through Word, Excel, and PowerPoint apps. But unfortunately that “practice” feel doesn’t help the OneNote succeed as an app in and of itself. OneNote requires an active Windows Live account to work at all. A Windows Live Read More
Microsoft Releases OneNote, a New App for the iPhone
Calendar16 Wed, 19 Jan 2011 16:35:04 UTC +00:00
Microsoft already has a few apps in Apple’s App Store, such as, Bing and Windows Live Messenger. However, no Microsoft Office programs have made their way to the iOS platform – that is, until now. (Don’t get your hopes up, there’s still no Word app for iPhone.) Microsoft has released its note-syncing app in the App Store, which will work with its Windows desktop counterpart. This move by Microsoft is an obvious attempt at further reaching out to the mobile worker and student. OneNote is packaged in the Mac bundle of the Microsoft Office suite, but Windows users will be happy to know they can now take their Office notes with them thanks to the beauty of cloud-sync technology… OneNote for iOS allows users to sync their notes and checklists with their Windows Live Skydrive account. SlashGear explains OneNote’s capabilities, “The application lets users take notes, make bulleted lists, and checklists. Read More
Microsoft’s OneNote Hits the App Store, and Looks Good
Calendar16 Wed, 19 Jan 2011 02:49:37 UTC +00:00
Microsoft’s OneNote has hit the App Store today. If you’ve not used or heard of OneNote, here’s a slice of its App Store description: Microsoft OneNote Mobile is the easy-to-use, powerful note-taking application for all of your ideas, brought to you by Microsoft Office. OneNote Mobile lets you create and view notes and lists whenever you need them. Sync your notes with free Windows Live online storage and access them from virtually anywhere using your phone, PC, or almost any web browser. OneNote is one of my favorite ever Windows apps. One of the very few that I can honestly say I miss – a lot! – since switching to Mac. Even though I now use Evernote on the Mac and on my iPhone and iPad, and think it’s a brilliant app and service, there are things about OneNote that I always liked better. For starters, its interface is far, far Read More
OneNote Makes its Way to iOS
Calendar16 Wed, 19 Jan 2011 03:35:17 UTC +00:00
posted by Jonathan Kizer on Tuesday, January 18, 2011 at 7:35 pm.   Microsoft is bringing one of the crown jewel’s from its Office suite of software to the iPhone and iPod touch. OneNote is now on iOS, and it’s… well, it’s OK. The app is supposedly the culmination of 18-24 months of work between of Mac Office and OneNote engineers. Despite that time at work, there are still parts of the app that aren’t optimized for the retina display of the iPod touch G4 and iPhone 4. Yeah, that’s pretty disappointing. Of course, it could be some type of bug, but it doesn’t seem that way: some elements look great, while others are still using that old, obsolete resolution of 320×480. It’s disappointing, to put it lightly. The app functions well, despite those UI issues, and will definitely make users of OneNote on the PC happy. This move definitely raises the Read More
Microsoft releases OneNote app for iOS
Calendar16 Tue, 18 Jan 2011 23:00:00 UTC +00:00
Microsoft has released a OneNote app for iOS, designed to sync with the company's OneNote software, which is a part of Microsoft Office for Windows and has a web version that Mac users can take advantage of. The OneNote app allows you to create notes and sync them with the Windows Live SkyDrive cloud storage. The app will allow use of the iPhone's camera to add pictures to your notes, but it doesn't have all the features of its web-based sibling or the Windows desktop version. As Macworld points out, some of those advanced features will not sync to the iPhone app. The app is free for a limited time. Microsoft has not indicated what the app will eventually cost, so it's worth grabbing now if you utilize OneNote. Thanks to all those who submitted the tip! Read More

One of the few things it does offer pretty much exclusively: its built-in Office features, like Word, Excel, and OneNote. And yet, it looks like Microsoft is starting to port some of these features over to their fiercest competitor; just minutes ago, Microsoft pushed a port of OneNote over to the iOS App Store. Microsoft has released OneNote Mobile for the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch today, and it's the first application in the Office suite to make it to iOS. Microsoft's SkyDrive storage is used to sync notes between the iOS app and the other OneNote clients (for Windows, Web, and Windows Phone 7). OneNote Mobile lets you access, create, and edit your notes and lists on your iOS device. You can create notes that include text, pictures, bullets, and checkboxes -- and combining some or all of those can easily result in shopping lists, To Do lists, trip preparations, and many other useful types of notes. You can also organize your notes into sections or access the notebooks you've created in OneNote 2010 for Windows or the OneNote Web App. OneNote Mobile gives you quick access to your recent notes, and you can easily check To Do items off while on the go. Microsoft's Office Team Steps Onto iOS With 'OneNote'
Calendar16 Tue, 18 Jan 2011 18:19:23 UTC +00:00
While Microsoft has released a small handful of apps for iOS devices, mostly notably with Bing and Windows Live Messenger, the company's Office team has been slow to bring iOS offerings to the App Store. Microsoft had indicated soon after the iPad's introduction that it was "looking at" the possibility of bringing a version of Office to the iPad, but clarified a few months later that it had "no current plans" to develop such offerings. But Microsoft's Office team has now taken its first baby steps onto the App Store with its announcement that it has launched a version of [App Store] for iOS. In case you haven't experienced the unsung hero of Office, OneNote is a digital notebook that lets you put everything you need to remember in one electronic place and then easily find it wherever you are. I use it every day. Think of it as a digital Read More

I have always been a fan of OneNote but the one thing that was missing was the ability to synchronize it across multiple platforms (home computer, work computer, iPhone etc). They’re first win was allowing synchronization over the web. Now I can stop using dropbox to host my OneNote workbooks. Now that there is an App for OneNote I can ditch Evernote! I’m a little surprised that this was published in early December and I haven’t seen this on the Featured Apps, oh wait…. Why should I be surprised? Nonetheless, this App is awesome!
