Add another developer to the Valentine's Day sale bandwagon, as Namco is now offering a huge selection of their iOS games at discounted rates. I honestly don't remember Valentine's Day being such a big deal before, but with EA, Capcom, Sega, and countless smaller developers using the holiday as an excuse to release special Valentine's themes or have sales, it looks like we can expect this sort of thing going forward. Have a look at what Namco is offering on discount, separated by price for your perusing pleasure (asterisks denote in-app purchase prices): $4.99 $3.99 $2.99 $1.99 99¢ Whew! That's a big list. In other Namco-related news, the Valentine's Day skin for Pac-Man has gone live as a free update for that game, and his lady friend has appeared on the iPad as Ms. Pac-Man for iPad [$4.99], as we told you about earlier this week. To celebrate the season a whole bunch of apps are going on sale. Here's the most comprehensive list available for which apps are seeing a discount. Last month our Thanksgiving meals were stuffed with lots of deeply discounted apps, and it seems that publishers are getting into the Christmas spirit in much the same way. We’ve got a whole slew of apps available at rock bottom prices just in time for your holiday celebrations, many at their lowest prices ever. Make sure and act fast though, as many of these apps are available for an extremely limited time. Also, be sure and keep checking this post regularly, as we’ll be updating all the new deals as they are announced. Much like Santa, we don’t stop working until Christmas, and we’re paid in milk and cookies. Speaking of, if you could leave out some chocolate chip oatmeal cookies that would be delightful. Read More
Happy Thanksgiving – Here Are a TON of Games on Sale
Calendar16 Thu, 25 Nov 2010 11:04:08 UTC +00:00
Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays, and has been all my life. What's there not to love about an entire day revolving around eating massive amounts of turkey, stuffing, and all the other fixings? Sure, I could do without needing to feign interest in football, but thankfully tryptophan overload usually allows me to sleep through all of that. If you're looking for something to do this year while you do your best to either pretend to be interested in football or anxiously wait for the food to be done, there are a ton of sales on the App Store to consider. The basis of this post comes from SirAwesome's awesome thread in our new price drops, freebies, and deals forum. He put together an extremely exhaustive listing of everything that's on sale, and the thread is good to stop by just to make sure you're not missing anything that might Read More

iPhone apps on sale for Halloween
Calendar16 Sat, 30 Oct 2010 03:30:00 UTC +00:00
Happy Halloween weekend! This is my favorite holiday of the year, not only because it's a fun time for parties during my favorite season, but also because it seems to be an excellent time for developers to put a little something special into their apps -- like put them on sale. There are quite a few sales hitting the App Store this weekend -- Sega has some of their titles on sale again (including Ecco the Dolphin and the great Shining Force), and Namco Bandai is doing the same. You can pick up Bit.Trip Beat and the original Pac Man game for just a buck each, among a few other good deals. PopCap has brought Plants vs. Zombies down to a buck for the holiday, and EA has a "Monster Sale" going on, too, with Wolfenstein RPG, Snood, and more on sale for just one cent less than a buck. If you’re a fan of receiving free candy or for cleaning off an absurd amount of toilet paper off your front lawn, then you’ll know that Halloween is nearly upon us. Most people celebrate Halloween by paying money to go to places for the sole purpose of possibly getting frightened, walking with their children to complete strangers homes in order to get a treat, or keeping all of their lights off in order to avoid wave after wave of trick-or-treaters. If the last example sounds like your kind of Halloween, then why not take advantage of the big Halloween sales a number of iOS game publishers are offering for this weekend only? Playing on your iDevice of choice would certainly keep strangers from knowing you’re home, so give it a try! On the heels of Glu Mobile’s Independence Day promotion, we have another publisher joining the party – Namco, which just recently celebrated Pac-Man’s 30th birthday. 5 Awesome Arcade Games for the iPhone
Calendar16 Sun, 27 Jun 2010 05:05:24 UTC +00:00
Thanks to the modern console, arcade games will never hold as large a place in gaming as they did in the 1970s and 1980s. But there is some good news for reto-gaming fans, as many arcade classics are now available in the App Store just waiting for you to download. Here are five awesome games that have made the leap from coin-operated arcade machine to your iPhone’s screen. So limber up your thumbs and let us know your favorites in the comments below. The Atari classic arcade game Pong, is undoubtedly the seminal title in the modern computer game industry. While it might be hard to believe now, back in the mid-70s, a home Pong console was the modern-day equivalent of having a PS3 hooked up to your television. Being the only game on the market at the time made it an obvious success, but the game itself is surprisingly addictive. Read More

PAC-MAN Turns 30, Namco Celebrates with App Store Sales
Calendar16 Sat, 22 May 2010 19:16:05 UTC +00:00
Thirty years ago today, a certain video game from Namco, featuring a curious little yellow fellow with a taste for dots and ghosts, hit the arcades in Japan. That round little yellow guy is known as PAC-MAN -- you may have heard of him. In the decades that followed, PAC-MAN became an arcade phenomenon spawning a great-many spin-offs and stands today as an icon of '80s pop culture. And the 1980 original is hugely popular, even still. (Don't miss today's playable PAC-MAN-themed Google doodle.) Namco is celebrating PAC-MAN's 30th birthday by launching a sweepstakes, detailed on the official PAC-MAN website, to win a PAC-MAN-themed Smart Car as well as running sales on various titles across several platforms. The discounts on PAC-MAN titles in the App Store follow: Namco's sale on the indicated items will remain in place until 6 PM (PST) tomorrow, Sunday, May 23. The most compelling grab of the Read More

Happy Birthday Pac-Man!
Calendar16 Sat, 22 May 2010 14:15:22 UTC +00:00
By Jeff Scott on May 22nd, 2010 It's hard to believe that today, Pac-Man is 30. Today, Pac-Man turns 30 years old! I remember the first time I saw Pac-Man. It was in the little dark pizza place near where I lived. I must have been around 11 years old and it was one of the first video games I had ever seen. I remember dumping quarter after quarter into the machine while drinking Pepsi after Pepsi trying to get the high score. I never got the high score. Well, not until the fragile local power grid helped me out. There had been a thunderstorm that morning, and the power was out in the whole neighborhood for a couple hours. When I went to play Pac-Man later that day, all of the high scores had been zeroed out! I finally had a chance and I did it. I got the high Read More
May 22nd, 2010 James Isabel Just in case you’re seriously out of touch with technology, today May 22 is PAC-MAN‘s 30th Anniversary! Have you checked out Google.com yet? For the iPhone world, Namco has dropped the prices on these titles: I believe Ms. PAC-MAN especially has never gone $0.99 ever so make sure you grab her (lol) during this promotion. PAC-MAN however is special and I’ll tell you why after the jump. Namco’s Unite SDK (aka Namco’s version of OpenFeint/Plus+) has been implemented in the game making it an even better purchase! Make sure you buy at least one PAC-MAN title to celebrate our favorite yellow person’s 30th birthday. Click on the links above. They’ll either take you to our review OR iTunes Link. Namco Says Happy Hearts Day With HUGE Games Sales!
Calendar16 Sun, 14 Feb 2010 08:30:39 UTC +00:00
February 14th, 2010 James Isabel If there’s a holiday/special event going on, expect Namco to be one of the few to put their games on sale. Until tonight I believe, you can download many of their games roster on the following sale prices: The first Ace Combat game was released in 1995 and the various versions have been put on different Playstation consoles, the Xbox 360, Game Boy and PSP. The franchise’s next outing is the iPhone (not surprisingly), and boy does this game deliver! We’ve seen Namco release numerous games for the iPhone however most games are met with criticism good and bad. Something tells me this game is one of their games that are simply runaway hits from the get go. Yet even more Namco games on sale: We’ll feature more games on sale throughout the day so make sure to keep on checking! You can leave a response, Read More

If you’re not interested in the original Pac-Man you might be interested in a remix of the classic. It’s similar….just remixed. You might like it, and it’s cheaper than the original Pac-Man. Sale also until January 2nd.. Another game pulled out of Namco’s game museum and remixed for iPhone. I had planned on settling in tonight, sifting through the tons of emails we've received from developers who are planning to or have put their games on sale, and forming some kind of massive list... Only to discover that TouchArcade forum superstar and all around cool dude Djflippy had completely one-upped me, not only posting a thread with a remarkably comprehensive list, but also alphabetizing said list. All of these games are either on sale currently or either have prices that are currently being modified or will be changed shortly. If something you're looking for isn't the price that we've published, just check back later: There are some serious bargains to be had in that list, and most of these sales are only going to last through the day with some of them extending over the weekend. It's probably not a good idea to wait on downloading any of these games Read More

There are few iPhone games that I will immediately buy. Most of the ones I do, however, are the classic games I played as a teenager. The iPhone/iPod touch is more than powerful enough to handle these games and it seems that there are many people like me who are keen to experience these classics again. So, here’s a roundup of modern ports of classic games. Only official ports of classic games are detailed here — clones and the like do exist but I had to draw a line in the sand. I’ve also included links to Wikipedia for those interested in the history of the games. The Video Arcade is where mainstream gaming began, and there are plenty of original ports from this era to re-live your youth shoving coins into cabinets. I’d still like to see BubbleBobble make an appearance here to completely satisfy my urges. Release Year: 1978Original Read More
A little over a year ago, in the App Store's youth, Namco provided some of the first big name iPhone game titles with their release of rather faithful ports of Pac-Man [App Store] and Ms. Pac-Man [App Store] for the iPhone.  They quite recently followed these titles up with the release of Pac-Man Remix [$5.99], featuring modern graphics and enhanced gameplay. Pac-Man Remix is indeed Pac-Man at its core, but features various enhancements that add variety to the well-known formula.  Aside from the standard maze full of dots and power-pellets, there are power-ups that enable things such as an invincible, mirror image Pac-Man ghost that helps with the dot chomping and the ability to jump over pesky, travelling arcs of electricity (a new hazard).  Many of the mazes are dual-height, with elevators and transporter pads providing access to the upper and lower areas.  What's more, at the end of each stage Read More
Namco's iPhone division considering... Tekken?
Calendar16 Wed, 05 Aug 2009 14:15:00 UTC +00:00
Actually, I'd play that. Namco recently announced that they were forming an Apple Games division to head up game development for Apple platforms like the iPhone, and in this interview, a producer for them who used to work for Apple says that they're excited to work on bringing great games to the handheld device. Like, for example, Pac-man, Galaga, and... and . You heard that right -- fighting games haven't exactly made a splash on the iPhone, as they're primarily a button-based genre, and the iPhone, of course, has no buttons. But that won't stop Namco's guy from putting the old head gears into motion: "It's just the controls that are a challenge. We are thinking about that." Think away, crazy man -- I'd love to pull out Yoshimitsu for a few rounds while waiting at a bus stop. Obviously, the easiest way to try and port these would be to Read More
Retro Action: 'Pac-Man Remix' and 'Q*Bert Deluxe' Arrive
Calendar16 Wed, 05 Aug 2009 07:59:53 UTC +00:00
Two long awaited games for retro fans appeared in the App Store tonight. Both Pac-Man Remix [$5.99] and Q-Bert Deluxe [$1.99] are now available for purchase. Q*Bert Deluxe Q*Bert Deluxe offers both classic Q*Bert as well as one with modernized graphics. This release also contains a new Jungle theme with brand new boards. There is an ongoing discussion in our forums. Pac-Man Remix While Namco had already released the classic version of Pac-Man [$5.99 / Lite] in the early days of the App Store, this newest release is a modernized version of the original. Pac-Man Remix offers enhanced graphics, boss battles, extra gadgets and power-ups across its stages. There is also a discussion in our forums by early adopters of the game. We'll take a closer look at both of these titles later today.   #6   12-07-2011, 01:01 PM Senior Member iPhone 4S, iOS 5.x Join Date: Dec 2009 Location: Read More

Good game, bad price
TwitchyFerret 4.0 stars Version: 1.0.1
The game itself is just like old Pac-Man and the control options are great. The sound is a little off sometimes but otherwise is good. The only con is the price, if it was $5.00 this would be a much better deal.
To take something so good and cripple it so.
KurdistaniSteve 2.0 stars Version: 1.0.1
My gripe is not about the price (so many have already covered that) it is about the controls. This game needs to take advantage of the accelerometer for it’s control. The miniature touch controls do not work well and it takes up valuable desktop space…making my beloved game difficult to play...way to frustrating. How could Namco take this classic game and make it sooooo bad for my touch? Namco, please rethink the controls...well, and price.
iPhone Arcade

This is the best version of pac-man I've ever played. The combination of touch screen flicking, accelerometer sensing, and d-pad touching with the different difficulty settings and the wonderful intermission videos makes this the best handheld gaming experience of pac-man yet.
Just like the original!
msuper69 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.1
It's been a long time since I've played PAC-MAN but I remember the original game to be the same. The sounds are reproduced faithfully as well as the look and feel. If you've never played PAC-MAN or were born too late for the first go round, you're missing out on a fun game.
Nice implementation
pbv66 4.0 stars Version: 1.0.1
There are three ways to control the joystick: buttons for left, right, up and down; tilt the iPhone/touch or swipe. The game's more playable than the iPod 5th gen version I bought before but otherwise the same.
Faithful translation
BinkyTheDM 4.0 stars Version: 1.0.1
It would have been hard to imagine 25 years ago that a pixel perfect translation of Pac Man could be played on your phone. The controls are a little wonky, especially the tilt option. But once I got used to the touch joypad it was 1980 all over again.
timeless!!
ao631 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.1
this game is an amazing way to pass the time when you're on the subway or stuck in the car for a long time! not mind-blowing, but hey.. it's a classic for a reason.
If you're smarter than the rest...
Johnny'Z 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.1
This is the same great classic it always was... elevated to another level. Don't listen to the other reviews!!! You can use the accelerometer, swipe control or a conventional tap control. All the integrity of the original is there with the challenge and fun elevated to another level since you now have the best game ever made available on the best device ever made! At first, I hated the idea of the $9.99 price, but I broke down and bought it... 'cause everybody needs Pac-Man!!! And now I'm glad I did. I think Namco should charge less... maybe $5.99 to be just right, but it's well worth the money either way. Anyone who says otherwise just can't adapt to a new way of playing the best game ever in an exciting new way!!!
Good
Kosloff 3.0 stars Version: 1.0.1
I actually think that this game is pretty good. Oldie but goodie:-)
Perfect port of this classic game!
sfc2001 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.3
All the complaints from folks about not enough mazes and other issues indicate a lack of knowledge about the original pacman game... There was just one maze, with increasing difficulty - and this is a spot-on exact replica of that game. You are buying the exact original console game for less than the cost of a meal at McDonalds. If you won't be satisfied with the exact and entire console PacMan game for six bucks, don't buy it. Personally I think it's a fantastic price!
Stop whining about the price
dmeyer302 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.2
Good grief, XBox/PS games are upwards of $50, PSP games are $20, DS games are--oh, wait, nobody plays those anyway--;$8 is not expensive for a well-polished game like this! Everybody is just spoiled on all the (GREAT!) free apps out there and seems to think they deserve everything free. Apps cost money to develop, and a lot of the free apps are advertisements for others that company has written.
Great port. Bad price.
JohnC42 4.0 stars Version: 1.0.1
For some reason the default controls on this game are the touch D-pad, which is the worst to play with. Accelerometer is a little better, swipe mode is the best. It's so good that I don't miss having a physical controller at all. It truly is great. This would be a 5 star review if it weren't for the serious price gouging. I know Pac-man is a well known license, but this game should be about half it's price.
This is straight frosh
Dem Durdle Beechz 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.1
Totally worth the ten dollars- it works with the accelorometer, it's fluid and responsive. I've been drinkin' green tea all day and this pac man is the jam makin me expend my energy and what not.
Doesn't work right after deleting lite version
zoomfish 3.0 stars Version: 1.0.4
It's just like the arcade version and was AWESOME until I deleted the Lite version... now it always uses the beginning screen. No matter how many times I clear the maze it won't go to the next maze. I would give it five stars if I could get the mazes from the next levels.
Little overpriced, but worth it
runner6288 4.0 stars Version: 1.0.1
I decided to just pay the money and it was worth it. I agree that it is overpriced, but it is kinda cool how you can just turn the phone and he will move that way. Or you can slide your finger on the screen or use the d-pad
Excellent
Porsche-Fan 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.1
Excellent job on a classic arcade game. For those of you old enough to have played this in the arcade, they did such a detailed job that the original patterns work for play just like in the 80s. I love it - well worth the money. Thanks for keeping this classic alive!
Great Game
TAFletcher 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.1
This game is true to the original. Just as fun now. You can use three types of controls - D-Pad, Swipe, and Accelerometer. The swipe method works the best for me. D-Pad is useless and using the accelerometer isn't far behind. I'm still giving it 5 stars because it's addictive and still very fun to play.
1980 classic
Higher Entertainment, LLC 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.1
Worth the money. Just like the arcade version.

BillyB123 4.0 stars Version: 1.0.1
Even after 25 years I still enjoy playing this game. Games today don't grab ahold of you the way this one does. As far as the controls go, swipe controls work best, simply swipe the direction you want to go anywhere onscreen. I remember getting this game for the Atari 2600 for $30, this versions way better. :-)
Good game
Vendrix 4.0 stars Version: 1.0.1
Well I get its too much but besides that, the game is awesome. The controls are a little etchy at first but once you get used to the touch controls, this game is a breeze and really fun...but yes lower the freakin price please.
Great job on this classic game!
howiedi2 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.2
I was surprised to find just how easy this game is to play on a small screen. The game offers several options for movement through the maze. I think this was worth the $9.99. It may be old but, not everything can be free. Don't be sucked in by the negative reviews that this game got before Apple cut off comments from people who didn't even buy the game. The idea that everything should be "cheap" is ridiculous!
Great Classic that's worth every penny!
audiopainter 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.1
If you like Pac-Man, this game doesn't dissapoint. 3 ways to navigate (Directional Pad, Accelerometer, and Swipe). I've used them all and prefer Swipe. It allows you to swipe your finger in any direction (anywhere on the screen) to navigate. My biggest concern before buying was responsiveness of controls when you've got ghosts right on your tail. Once you play you'll see there is definitely no issue there. Complain all you want about price but that doesn't make the game any less amazing. Besides, how much would you pay for this app if you saw it on a store shelf?
Lots of fun!
dcfyi 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.1
This is a classic game. Well worth $9.99.
Love it!
Personsen 4.0 stars Version: 1.0.1
This is a great game. It brings back good memories. At times the controls can be difficult, but other than that I see this as my best paid for iPod app. 4/5 to leave room for improvement.
No maps
ManUtdFan539 1.0 stars Version: 1.0.4
Okay, please listen to this. No matter how awesome pacman is, this isn't. THERE IS ONLY 1 MAP!!! That means you pay $6 to play level 1 over and over... Worth 50 cents until they add new maps.
Awesome - Just like I remember it!
PepperHead1970 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.5
There is only supposed to be one board, jacka$$es... I love it when people complain, and they don't even know what they are talking about. The original only had ONE board, but it gets more difficult as you progress...
Just like the old arcade version
MegaManBass 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.5
It's the old arcade version brought to (another) handheld. Everyone should enjoy this reborn classic. So it has 1 layout. Do I care? No! PAC-MAN is a great game all round
