Paper Monsters

If you are a Super Mario fan, you will love the Paper Monsters app for iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad. The developers at Crescent Moon Games have filled the Paper Monsters game app with great wit, charm, graphics, soundtrack, and functionality. You and your family will have a blast competing against one another on the Leader Board at Game Center, as you navigate obstacles, earn points, and explore this exciting paper playscape. The story of the Paper Monsters iPhone and iPad game is simple. The paper world has been threatened by monsters, and you need to help save it. The graphics of the paper world are superbly created with inspiration from a paper-filled world. Not too long ago, people made Halloween costumes out of cardboard boxes and brown paper bags. Every day with Paper Monsters speaks to the vibe of making dioramas out of cardboard boxes and torn pieces of construction Read More
Crescent Moon Games' Paper Monsters [ Free ] hit the App Store earlier this year, and we liked it quite a bit in our review. It's a slick looking platformer that's highly inspired by the Mario series, and it wouldn't be that big of a stretch to make some Little Big Planet comparisons. Regardless, it's a load of fun, and is available for free on the App Store right now. I dig the boss battles, the auto-running dash mode is cool, and the game has a great overall feel. If you don't have it already, make sure you snag it during this promotion. wait wait wait wait wait.... am i seeing this right? TD.. with dragons? =O downloading 5 minutes ago Edit: Dammit i got too excited and didn't notice it's not universal =[ Little Labyrinths has begun its long trek across the timezones! Was macht der Spaß? Daily iPad App: Paper Monsters
Calendar16 Tue, 31 Jan 2012 13:15:00 UTC +00:00
I've found that iOS isn't the best platform (so to speak) for platformers. I love games like Mario and Sonic, where you drive a little character around, jumping between platforms and collecting goodies. The lack of physical buttons on Apple's touch screens (and let's face it: cheaper production values) make it hard to pull off a great platformer. Often times developers are forced to cut corners or really stretch to generate new ideas. Not so with Paper Monsters (US$.0.99, universal). Crescent Moon's latest is a traditional platform game (complete with double jumps and warp pipes), and it plays that role perfectly. The little box-headed character can navigate the colorful and nicely-designed environments with skill thanks to some well-turned controls. The whole experience shines through the iOS platform right back to the classic days of 2D platforming. There are some new tricks, too. At times, the action feels more like Little Big Read More

The just-released Paper Monsters [99¢], co-developed by Robots Vs Wizards and Crescent Moon Games, has been in the works for a long time. In fact, development originally began way back in mid-2010, and we didn’t learn until well into 2011 that Crescent Moon had actually jumped into the project to give it a graphical makeover (as they’ve been known to do from time to time). With such a long development cycle, it’s easy for the hype over a game to do one of two things: either people start to lose interest as the months drag along, or the hype builds up to the kind of level that would be hard for any game to deliver on. Well, Paper Monsters finally has reached the App Store, so if you’re part of that first group then it’s time to start paying attention again. More importantly, however, are the folks in that second group Read More

So far, so good!

I've gotten through the first chapter and I'm really enjoying the game. Comments thus far: - the environments are great and well detailed (it is fun picking out what trees, bridges, etc are made out of). - There is a bit of nostalgia in the gameplay and style that is reminiscent of games like Mario/Paper Mario and Little Big Planet.- The fixed onscreen joystick works nicely, but the default control scheme doesn't feel quite as responsive.-The music suits the game nicely.- The button system is great, I just wish there were a bit more selection of what you can buy with them. Hopefully that happens in an update! All & All a great purchase so far. Will edit as I progress. 😊
