By Rene Ritchie, Friday, Apr 2, 2010 | Unlike the iPhone 3GS, the iPad doesn’t have built-in stocks, weather, voice memo, clock, calculator, or compass apps. It does, however, have the brand new iPad App Store, and yeah… there are apps for all that! Check out our picks after the break! Bloomberg for iPad [Free - iTunes link] offers not just stocks but news, company info, price charts, trends, analysis and… you get the idea. It could just be information overload on a 9.7″ screen, but that’s likely just what you stockies want! Weather Channel Max [Free - iTunes link] costs nothing (thanks to Toyota) but packs in the weathery-goodness. Full screen, customizable maps, in-motion radar, local, regional, and national video, and more make it not so much of a replacement as a escalation. Voice memos for iPad [Free - iTunes link] is the “I can’t believe it’s not butter” of Read More
By Rene Ritchie, Wednesday, Dec 16, 2009 | Some quick App Store updates this week, including Mobile iDisk 1.1, PCalc and Pcalc Lite 1.9, I Am T-Pain 1.2, and Canabalt 1.2. (Not that the iTunes App Store is letting me download some of them!) MobileMe iDisk 1.1 [Free - iTunes link] brings autocomplete for email, saves file sharing emails to your sent folder, allows tap-hold to copy or save to camera roll, cache is now embiggened to 500MB, plus faster downloads and more languages supported (Chinese, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, Italian, Korean, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Swedish) PCalc 1.9 [$9.99 - iTunes link] adds more themes and what-not, but the real news is PCalc Lite 1.9 [Free - iTunes link] which lets you get the basic calc functionality free, and then use in-app-purchase to buy only those features you need, only when you need them. This includes a theme pack ($0.99) Read More
By Rene Ritchie, Monday, Nov 2, 2009 | PCalc [$9.99 - iTunes link] has 30 promo codes to give away to TiPb readers willing to help them out with a little survey. Clever iPhone app prevents calculator pR0n

A tweet earlier today pointed me to an iPhone calculator app that really got me laughing, as well as taking me on a trip down memory lane. When I was in high school, calculators were expensive (US$200 for a six-function calculator with memory, for example) and just starting to make it into the hands of students. In those more naive times, anything that could be construed as even mildly suggestive got a lot of chuckles. One of the more amusing pastimes was to perform certain calculations that would come up with a result like 5318008 or 3104558 which, when the calculator was turned upside down, would spell a "dirty word." Well, TLA Systems wants to make sure that its PCalc RPN [iTunes Link, US$9.99] and free PCalc Lite [iTunes Link] calculator apps for iPhone are used only for good purposes, so they've built in a special smut filter that will block Read More

Great feeling
PabloMontesinos 5.0 stars Version: 1.5
Great UI. Apple should buy it from the author. It just replaced Apple's calculator in my iPhone.
Incredible value!
virtualcappy 5.0 stars Version: 1.3
Okay, obviously b/c it's free. But really this is a very snappy calc. Will replace touch calc on my iPhone. The only thing I really miss from the full version is scientific notation and I can't see spending 10 bucks just for that. Maybe something b/n the free and full versions would be nice. Very nice implementation of landscape vs portrait. Bottom line: this highly polished, extremely useful, FREE app is a must d/l.
The best iPhone calculator
bmcgeoch 5.0 stars Version: 1.3
As others have said, this just replaced the preinstalled Apple calculator on my iPhone. Great, great app. Terrific UI. "Ultimate Answer: 42" Hehe... :)
Awesome calculator
tripm 5.0 stars Version: 1.3
Just short of the best calculator for iphone: for that you need the paid version of pCalc, which has even more great features. But for the average user this is a great utility from one of the best developers I've encountered, who also created the excellent pCalc for Mac as well as DragThing.
Excellent!
fallzboater 5.0 stars Version: 1.3
I've been using Hp calcs forever, so I'm useless with algebraic. The free version is great. I would pay for one with a multi-line stack display. Update: I just bought the full version, which has two-line RPN display and several other worthwhile features.
Pretty neat calculator
Great app hunter 4.0 stars Version: 1.3
Has a ton of features for being free! Great work!
Awsome UI Look and Feel, Simple, Works and Free
10Rob32 5.0 stars Version: 1.3
Simple, no bells and whistles, I like that. Too many do a poor job adding extra features and forget the basics. Not this one.
Great free calculator, attention to detail unparalleled
Nick Beadman 5.0 stars Version: 1.3
Helped me make the decision to update to the full version easy. Why did I upgrade to the full version? Binary, octal and hex along with the tape.
Very nice
Welchwold 5.0 stars Version: 1.3
Only used a little so far, but it seems very nice. Great to have such a nice RPN calculator for free!
Just needs
ISOnow 4.0 stars Version: 1.4
commas. Can the developers just put commas in the numbers over 100?
Great
Nirvanaroks 5.0 stars Version: 1.4

Poopguy 5.0 stars Version: 1.4

Love it
New to iPhone!!! 5.0 stars Version: 1.4
Always wanted a credit card sized calculator that operates on RPN. Now it's on my phone. Great work guys!!!!
Why?
Notnagel 5.0 stars Version: 1.4
Why would anyone complain?? IT'S FREE FOR GODS SAKE!
Well-designed and implemented!
gen eric 5.0 stars Version: 1.4
This app is superbly designed and does everything as it should. I love the RPN mode - helps me to remember how great my old HP calculator was! It is obvious that many hours have gone into this substantial, useful application. Highly recommended.
Best User Interface on an iPhone calculator yet
ncianca 5.0 stars Version: 1.4
PCalc has the best UI of any calculator in the AppStore. The design is easy to work with, the keys stand out and are visible. I really like the "key tip" that appears when you press a key so that it is clear what you just pressed. PCalc Lite has replaced the default Apple calculator on my iPhone.
If Only PCalc Had TVM Functions
BobP63 4.0 stars Version: 1.4
The ONLY thing stopping me from giving PCalc Lite five stars and purchasing the full version is its lack of financial functions. If the developer ever elects to add financial functions to the full version I’ll be one of the in line to purchase. I know I’m not the only one who feels this way.
RPN is where it's at!
Wallyfoo 5.0 stars Version: 1.4
Such a beautiful interface, RPN mode, and free! Splendid work, sir.
Great calc, wish I could get rid of the built-in calc
mscott-the real one 5.0 stars Version: 1.4
PCalc (the paid version) was the very first app I bought for my phone (before I even received my 3G). It's both beautiful and extremely functional. Probably the biggest thing the free version offers over the built-in Apple calculator is RPN (which is indispensable for me). Undo/redo support is pretty handy, too. But the paid app's two-line mode and hex/octal/binary support make it well worth the money. And for all those wondering if the paid app can turn off the key clicks, the answer is YES! That's been there since day one. (And now the latest free version lets you turn the clicks off, too.)
Exactly what I wanted (so much so I bought the paid version)
watchingapple 5.0 stars Version: 1.4
I've tried a number of the other calculators available for iPhone, but this one is by far the best: elegant, fast, attractive, and full of nice little touches you don't notice at first but which delight you when you find them.
Yes
Fines taken 5.0 stars Version: 1.3
Exactly what I needed! :)
Conversions Included!! Awesome!!
ssssiod 5.0 stars Version: 1.3
Excellent calculator application. Will be put to use harboring from my pocket. iPhone calculator kicked to home page 9 ha.
Good app... but
lerxst 1 3.0 stars Version: 1.3
The keyclick drives me crazy. I know the app of free but you need to be able to turn it off without turning off the phone ringer. I would like the tape function of the full version but I won't buy it because it may not have the capibility to turn off the key click. Other than that, it's not bad for free.
Love everything but the clicks
js3145 4.0 stars Version: 1.3
I love it! The only thing keeping me from springing for the paid version is those key clicks. Anyone know if the full version has an option to disable them?
Best calculator app ever!!!!
Me, Myself & I 5.0 stars Version: 1.3
Way better than apples built in calculator, download now!!!!!!
RAWKS!
Joey96 5.0 stars Version: 1.6
Apple should replace the default iPhone calculator with this one; it's really that good. It functions flawlessly (as far as I can tell) and the keys are exactly where they should be, so it's a real useability improvement over the default iPhone calculator. Also, I found the conversions very easy and intuitive to use.
