The set overlap between "iPhone owners" and "fans of professional golf" isn't trivial, so it's worth mentioning that the free app for the 92nd PGA Championship is available in the App Store. You can follow along with the action at Whistling Straits this weekend in glorious Retina Display detail, and with a $1.99 in-app purchase you can get live video of marquee players through their entire rounds, or see the entire field play the course's par 3 holes. Of course, live coverage is also available at pga.com or on television. Even without chipping in for the live streaming, there's plenty of video in the app: highlights, course overviews and instructional clips are all included gratis. The app includes customizable push notifications, so you can keep abreast of the latest news or zero in on particular players, round schedules or exceptional events (double bogeys, birdies/eagles, etc.). Nice, But...Pay for Ad Supported App?
PGB555 3.0 stars Version: 1.0
Absent notable distinctions, a dubious decision to charge for an ad supported event app given Masters, US Open and The Open Championship apps were all free. The PGA, executor of golf's last and least Major, has done itself little favor.
Only Major to Charge $ for App?
Vegas Hack 1.0 stars Version: 1.0
Masters App, free. US Open App, free. Britsh Open App, free. PGA Championship, $1.99. Ridiculous! No weekly PGA Tour App, Shameful! Maybe Commish Tim "Mo Money" Finchem will figure a way to provide for $1,000 next year. Tiger will probably beat him to the punch and provide a free Tiger App!
Shame on you
Coeyson 1.0 stars Version: 1.0
Shame on you for the ads in this app.
First Impression: Purchase + Ads!
StyleDev 1.0 stars Version: 1.0.1
I am giving a one star rating because I bought a $2 application which will be relevant for 4 days and it has ads. It is one or the other people! Let us hope that it functions with out a hitch. Now I can maybe understand if they need to cover the video streaming charges, if that is the case then raise the purchase price and drop the Ad or request more money from the sponsor. Will do a second review after the championship.
Shameful
Lon 1.0 stars Version: 1.0
I echo the sentiments of others about the PGA charging for this App. I have to admit that I bought the App in large part just so I could write a review expressing my disappointment, since the PGA does not provide any other forum on its website to do so. Charging for its App when the Masters, US Open & Open Championship did not has given the PGA a Major black eye in my view, particularly when the App is already sponsored with ads. Its not so much about the money as it is the failure of the PGA to meet the standards already set by its peers - and for an App that can only be used for the week! Surely, push notifications, while a great feature, do not justify the cost. And, so far the Player Listings are inaccurate. Some Players are listed by "Last Name, First Name" and others are listed by "First Name, Last Name." That's pretty basic data! PGA, you did get my money, but you committed a huge publicity faux pas in the process. I hope it comes back to haunt you.
App Looks Good, But...
Oudiveboy 3.0 stars Version: 1.0
I'm going to start off with an average rating because of two things: 1) A paid application should be ad-free. This is very greedy and out of the norm for a paid app. 2) The standard was set by The Masters and The Open Championship, neither of which charged for an app that would be used for one week.
GREED
Gman200000 1.0 stars Version: 1.0.1
SHAMEFUL. Purchased to comment..PGA should've charged $10.99 so they wouldn't feel as bad for losing ANY future PGA purchases from me for only $1.99. Pat yourself on the back for this one.
What's with the $1.99
28 year old Dad 2.0 stars Version: 1.0
I'm disapointed that the app for the PGA Championship cost $1.99 when the Masters, US Open and British Open apps were all free. But my thirst for instant knoweldge is taking over and I am buying the app anyway. I gave two stars instead of one because I really like the live player updates.
PGA Championship
GORDIEC 3.0 stars Version: 1.0.1
After buying this app for a couple of dollars I reviewed all the features in detail. It feels like a windows app converted to an apple format. Very disappointing. Some of the instructional videos are misnamed, like the bunkers instruction video. Many videos do not allow for the buffer to start and get ahead of the action and shuts down. The first video featuring Tiger did not play and said the format was not made for the iPhone. The courses have no sky views or fly-overs, just a dull photograph from the tee box. There is no landscape view, just old fashioned portrait view. The type sizes are very small and hard to read and no ability to enlarge with pinch or tap feature. Like I said, very Windows -like. Apple should not have allowed this app to pass its stringent requirements for a quality app. As a hard core golfer and viewer of the game on TV I will use the app but am not impressed or excited about using it. With the previous golfing live apps like the Masters and Open using cutting edge technology, the company that produced this app for the PGA should be chastised for producing a very mediocre app with no exciting Apple enabling features. Hopefully an update to fix the shortcomings before the start of the tournament will be released to address the aformentioned issues. In this app Greed rules, not technology.
Great App!!!
KTS1010 4.0 stars Version: 1.0
Would be 5 stars but 1.99 for an app you can only use 4 days a year is alittle steep.
Features aren't working on time.
7humbs 2.0 stars Version: 1.0.1
I don't have a problem paying for a good app but this one is already a dissapointment. The marquee group live streaming video feature isn't working - even though tiger tee'd off 20 minutes ago. Considering this app is only good for one tournament; they better fix the problems, or I want my money back.
Alerts and Live Video
CalBear93 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
App looks really slick - can't wait for the PGA Championship to begin. I am stuck at work and in meetings on Thursday and Friday, but will set up alerts for each of Tiger's holes plus watch live using this app!
Yeah, it was 2bucks, BUT WORTH IT...
VenomousCobraR 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.1
I read all the reviews first, saw that yes, its 2 bucks. Yes there are annoying ads. BUT, I am writing this review on my laptop while my iPhone is playing the LIVE VIDEO of Tiger, Paddy, and Beemer.... The video is HIGH QUALITY and guess what, NO ads during live video. This was worth it to me. I wont even use any of the other junk. I wish The Masters app would have followed key groups through thier entire round. Awesome, and exactly what I wanted. And honestly, people crying over 1.99 for a weekend? I spent 1.99 on a drink that last 4 minutes! Stop your whining....
A Bargain
Traffic Gem 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.1
For many of us avid golfers out there, we probably make $1.99 in one minute of our time, sometimes even while playing. But being able to watch Tiger play live, without commercial, it's really a bargain. That said, I don't think PGA charges $1.99 to make a buck, or two really. Instead, I believe they just wanted to gauge the true demand of this app, and the potential in the future. If they would just give it away free, which they would not have any problem doing financially, there would be manyfold more non-golf fan freeloaders downloading the app that PGA would not be able to measure the valuable market stat. I think PGA originally wanted to give this app away for free and make some money with the ads, some genius came along and suggested charging a small fee to weed out the non-aficionados. Anyway, I think the value of this app is easily over $10, just for the live video of Tiger playing for four days. I get the point of all one-star comments about the ads and the $1.99. But now the tournament has started and I'm watching the live video right now, I'm totally happy and consider it a great buy, and my first non-free download, at App Store.
Outrageous
Pgaapphater 1.0 stars Version: 1.0
I only bought this so I could complain about the cost and the ads. Don't buy!
Why isn't this free?
Straightkiller 1.0 stars Version: 1.0
The apps for the other 3 majors were free, but this one costs $2?
It's actually a pretty decent app
bmilne81 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.2
The streaming of the video works perfectly for me, the flyovers are nice, and it pushes data about whatever players you mark as your favorites. It's worth a measly $2. And watching the stream on my iPod vs. the telecast on TNT the stream I'm watching is actually 2 or 3 minutes ahead of the "live" TNT coverage. Plus, no commercials is huge. People complaining about the ads are ridiculous. There are hardly any at all. It's definitely worth $2 if your significant other is dragging you to something on the weekend that you don't want to be at because you'd like to be watching the PGA Championship. The video quality is outstanding.
Instructional Videos Rock!!!
TourMaster 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
The instructional videos in the App are terrific. They are a great teaching tool for any golfer, beginner or advanced. I was playing this weekend and found myself in the fairway bunker. I had watched the video on how to get out of the bunker safely earlier in the day and the tips in the video helped me get out of the sand and right up on the edge of the green. The PGA pro's in the videos are extremely helpful. If you consider yourself a golfer then this app is a must buy!!
Nice app, but charging? And with ads?
oc az us 2.0 stars Version: 1.0
This is a nice app. It seems like they put some thought in the development of it. Nice features and sleek programming, but I wonder how is the live video streaming going to be. That is the bog question. So far the Masters app has been the best in terms of video, allowing you to visit the leaderboard while still staying connected to the stream (it minimized the video to the corner, but would keep playing). The apps for the other two majors weren't so great in my opinion. Now, charging for this app, considering that the PGA got sponsorship dollars for it, is beyond shameful. It's not about the $2, but about the fact that they are double-dipping here. And finally, what's going on with the official PGA Tour app? They always pride themselves as an very technologically advanced organization and yet still no app. Crazy!
WTF
Bkreigh 1.0 stars Version: 1.0.1
It costs money yet they fail to update the leader board. Hour into the event and only six scores are up and nothing past the first hole. It's also 8:47 and can't view video which was supposed to start at 8:35. What a crock of crap.
A must buy!!!
cane95 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
I can't wait for the live video. The app is so cool even now. Push alerts is going to make it easier to keep tabs on the action. A real value for the price. Only thing better would be a pass for the tournament.

Golf fan in Central Calif 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.1
The live video on my 3GS is fantastic. This ap is well worth 2$ if you are away from your laptop or TV and if you are a golf fan.
Push Notifications rule!
Talk radio listener 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.2
PGA has outdone themselves with this app. Worth every penny, no stupid IBM commercials everytime you launch the app unlike Brittish Open app. I watched hours of golf last 2 days at work. You get what you pay for and this app is solid. By the way I will not miss a score with the alerts while I am playing my local track this weekend.
PGA Championship 2009
Straight DOwn the Middle 4.0 stars Version: 1.0.2
Outstanding value. The Marque Group feature allowed me to follow Tiger, Paddy and Rich for 18 holes. The fly-overs gave me a great view of each hole - when I wanted to see them. I would recommend this app to any golf fan with an iPhone.
MUST HAVE FOR GOLF FANS
Tiger4ever 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.2
This is the BEST app for Golf Fans. I said this for the the Masters app also BUT, I like the PGA CHAMPIONSHIP one BETTER because of the coutomized leaderboards, marquee groups & alerts for each of you favorite players.
