Adobe Photoshop Touch for iPad 2
Calendar16 Mon, 27 Feb 2012 18:00:00 UTC +00:00
Adobe has finally gone and done it. An iPad version of Photoshop called Adobe Photoshop Touch is out for the iPad via the App Store. It's tremendously impressive and to a lesser degree a bit frustrating. Let's start with the good stuff, because there's plenty of it. Getting a sophisticated photo app running on the iPad is no small task. It requires many controls and a lot of ways to complete tasks that differ from their counterparts on the desktop. Adobe has given this a lot of thought, and while Photoshop Touch isn't as full featured as Photoshop CS5, it brings a boatload of functionality to the tablet which will make every photographer anxious to buy the US$9.99 app without hesitation. Here's a brief run down of the features: If you use Photoshop, most of these tools will be familiar to you. New tools include the Scribble Selection Tool which allows Read More
TUAW Best of 2011 wrap-up and editor picks
Calendar16 Sat, 07 Jan 2012 01:00:00 UTC +00:00
It's January 6th, 2012, and today marks the end of the TUAW Best of 2011 awards. This was a massive undertaking, with 25 separate categories all requiring their own nominations and voting from our readers. We've learned some lessons for next year's event -- start earlier, watch for astroturfing in the nominations, drop some unpopular categories -- and the Best of 2012 will be even better. The editorial staff here at TUAW agreed with many of the reader picks, but we had our own opinions on some others. We want to thank all of the thousands of TUAW readers who took time to consider their favorite accessories and apps, nominate them for an award, and then vote in the competition. Without further ado, here's the full list of winners as well as our picks for the TUAW Best of 2011: Editor picks: 13" and 11" MacBook Air, 13" MacBook Pro Peripheral Read More

Welcome to the first of two late-breaking editions this week of iPhone + iPad Gems. Once again, we’re taking a rapid-fire look at a big collection of recently-released applications across a wide collection of different categories. Eight of the apps are either iPad-exclusive or developed solely to run on the iPad, while the other two are iPhone and iPod touch applications. Our top picks of the week are Amazing Animals: Savanna for iPhone, Photogene for iPad, and TiltShift Generator for iPad. Read on for all the details. Developed solely as an iPhone application, Tapitu’s new edutainment title Amazing Animals: Savanna ($2) still manages to look quite good when upscaled to the larger display of an iPad. Conceptually, Savanna is extremely simple, presenting you with an ultra-wide panning landscape filled with baboons, ostriches, zebras, elephants, antelope, and the like, allowing kids to scroll left or right through the collection, touch any animal, Read More
Quick Review: Photogene for iPad
Calendar16 Mon, 12 Apr 2010 14:32:18 UTC +00:00

Editing images with Photogene for iPad is pleasurable. The big screen allows you to really see the changes and the tools provided by Photogene are easy and intuitive to use. I have encountered a few minor bugs when using Photogene for iPad, but I trust that these will be fixed in a future update. To see Photogene for iPad in action, follow us after the break! Read More
Photogene for iPad: More features, more coolness
Calendar16 Thu, 08 Apr 2010 13:00:00 UTC +00:00
Who said you can't do content creation on the iPad? Every day, I am seeing more and more apps that allow you to create, modify, or extend content in ways that are approaching, but not yet quite equal to, what you can do on a desktop or full featured laptop. A case in point is Photogene, a U.S. $3.99 app that has been upgraded from the iPhone version that we've positively reviewed in the past. The app has doubled in price, but comes with some significant updates like the ability to modify curves. Photogene lets you crop and straighten photos, sharpen them, adjust levels and curves, apply filters, and create frames and selective blurs. No, it's not Photoshop, but you can really improve your photos and then export them by mail, Facebook, Twitter, or iPhoto. You can also just save them to your iPad photo gallery. Having a much bigger screen Read More

Awesome!
Jean Swashbuckler 5.0 stars Version: 1.00
Pundits and the uninformed say the iPad isn't for content creation - they are so wrong. Photogene gets kudos for showing how content creation can be easy, intuitive, fun, and elegant. All the tools you need are easily accessible. If you spend time in iPhoto you'll be up to speed in no time. The addition of bubble text is perfect in creating images for eLearning courses or blog entries. The one area the developers spent quality time on is the tutorial. The vast majority of developers spend so little time in developing this important feature - the Photogene folks didn't skimp on it and it is very much appreciated. Tap the i-button (information) and boom, you get access to communicating with the developers, a link to their web site, and one of the best tutorials I have seen in any iPhone or iPad app. It's engaging, compelling (who would say that about a tutorial), concise, and informative. Crisp images describe in a pointed manner the feature and what it does. How I have so wanted this in other apps where the developer's think that since the app is intuitive for them it is for everyone when it's not-go figure. Given Photogene's tutorial, I suspect I'll be deducting points in other app ratings if this benchmark isn't met or exceeded. Thanks Photogene for a terrific app. I am really looking forward to putting it to good use in my content creation workflow.
:D

Full shilling
Bazb 5.0 stars Version: 1.00
Yeah this is the photo editing app you need. Great feature set including captions and basic object drawing, curve color editing. Really intuitive too - I just wanted to rotate and crop an image and it worked great. Kind of pricey I guess, but your getting everything you need.
Great functionality
myz06vette 4.0 stars Version: 1.00
Great all around functionality and tools. However, needs red eye correction. Also, I get a few random force closes when going to upload to Facebook. Not often, but a few times today. Well worth the $3.99 though for sure... That's cheaper than lunch at mcdonalds and you can do much more with this than you can a big Mac anyway. Would be 5 stars if it had red eye correction and no force closes. Otherwise, perfect.
Great app
Play4keepsMedia 3.0 stars Version: 1.00
Had on iPhone and liked let's hope the same for this one. After using more than a few time I can say it's worth it!
must have!!!!
du it!!! 5.0 stars Version: 1.00
wow! thats all i can say.
Nice app but needs a little work
iPad User from USA 3.0 stars Version: 1.00
This in a nice application but still needs a little work.
love photogene on iphone but iPad it blows
mrbass.org 1.0 stars Version: 1.00
Yes it's quick and does the basic cropping and rotating, however, it has crashed on me nearly 30 times when attempting to email the photo. I had to resort to saving the image to photo library and emailing it from there. But it restores from last session though so don't have to start over your work right? Wrong only about 25% of the time will it restore previous session correctly. For $4 for a basic photo editing app I was hoping for a little bit of stability.
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you for a great app
Bahamamacdaddy 5.0 stars Version: 1.00
You saved my life, all I wanted to do was rotate and crop photos on my iPad, these basic features were missing in the Photos app. It seems 'we're' is so fixated on simplicity that 'we' sacrifice important features. It's developers like you that really make iPad a truly magical and revolutionary computing platform. Thanks again for your fully featured yet simple to use app!
Just what I was looking for
Dbroussa 5.0 stars Version: 1.00
I was looking for an app that would let me rotate photos in 90 degree increments and this one delivered so much more. The ability to crop images, and then to apply frames and borders was a nice touch. The macros that allow you to apply a fairly large number of modifications to your image are nice as well In short, you can; Rotate & Crop, adjust various image properties (RGB, Brightness, Contrast, etc), apply frames, and even add stamps and text to your photos. Well worth the $3.99.
Awesome!
Alan Szabo Jr. 5.0 stars Version: 1.00
Great app for the iPad. Even better than the iPhone version!
Pretty cool, but...
Piperguy515 3.0 stars Version: 1.00
Nice app. Good interface. But crashes every time I try and upload to Facebook. A bit disappointing.
Highly Recommend
Debbie Ireland 5.0 stars Version: 1.00
I was told about this from a friend, really impressed. I would recommend this, well worth the money.

rallycar27 5.0 stars Version: 1.00
The app is quite good, especially when $4 is considered a low price point for the ipad. Just get it already. You know you'll need it eventually.
Good app but....
Chiari language learner 3.0 stars Version: 1.00
Fix the UI on the controls for exposure, brightness,RGB, etc. You always get the scroll down control rather than the lever for the value you are trying to change. This is very annoying, I'll give 5 stars when they fix this, shouldn't be hard...
Great App but Really Needs Photo Ratings
burninrubber218 3.0 stars Version: 1.00
This is an incredible app for editing photos that you already have approved as good. This app would be much more effective if you could do ratings and then delete or show photos based on ratings: stars, numbers, even a thumbs up or thumbs down would be a step up. When the camera adapter for the iPad comes out I will be looking for an app with ratings so that I can do the first step of the editing on my iPad. I think that is the most important.
Good basic stuff
Mr. Kenfer 4.0 stars Version: 1.00
I looked through all the existing iPad photo apps and I couldn't find one that would do basic cropping and rotation! This app has no problem with that, plus it seems capable in its more advanced features.
