'What's the Difference' - A Worthy Photo Comparison Game

For various reasons the "spot the difference" game genre has taken off on the App Store. These games involve looking at two nearly identical photographs and tapping on the areas of difference. It's a simple game but well suited to the iPhone's touch screen. We've tried a variety of these games over the past few months, and most have them have been pretty disappointing. Photo Spot [$0.99, Lite] was probably one of the best ones available and came out back in Febraury. However, a new contender called What's the Difference [$1.99] was recently highlighted by longtime forum member Carlos-SZ and highly recommended -- and we can see why. JVL's entry into this field offers great production value, a variety of modes, a library of 500 photos and even a global high score system. I love spot the difference games, and this one was good the first time I played it.

At least half the taps on correct photo differences are not registered by the game. Sometimes repeated harder taps work, but each tap reduces your time allowance. Encountered a number of differences between the two photos that are not visible even after the game circles them with red. Some pix are reduced in size to the point that crowded items cannot be readily identified, so differences are difficult if not impossible to detect. This app has a lot of fun possibilities, but needs work.

Game play gets boring and repetitive. Pictures are also too small and there are bugs with the differences and inaccurate. Game also crashes randomly. Deleted.

I've played other spot the difference and after hearing about this tried it out. It's cheap and you get what you pay for - a cheap quality game - no imagination, just a bare-bones app.

If you're looking for a nice challenge on a spot the difference game, this is the right game. I loved it since the moment I downloaded it. It would be nice to add some difficulty settings cause sometimes it gets too hard. Definitely worth the $0.99!

I've had no trouble with the game registering my touches. On the same note, it doesn't graciously give me credit for tapping anywhere in a mad dash to try to find the last mismatch. Nintendo DS dropped the ball not adding photohunt to their Touchmaster games. If you're a photohunt fan, this is where you want to spend your $.

This is a great game. It's simple and easy to pick up. Shooting for new high scores is a blast. However, if you don't tap the error precisely, the game will penalize you. Sometimes this results in losing the game which can be very frustrating. Perhaps make the differences slightly larger.

Photo Spot is visually one of the "spot the difference" type games that I have seen, high level of polish. The sound effects are good as well. There's a countdown timer in the upper left corner that causes you stress which in turns makes your ability to spot worse. I like it because of that. This is also one of the "least" boring and repetitive versions of these type of apps. It's also one of the hardest, yes the pictures are hard to spot, that's the point.
