From MooCowMusic comes the latest iteration of their renowned iPad app, Pianist Pro 1.5 (£5.99). Most notably, Pianist Pro now incorporates the MIDI Mobilizer technology from Line 6, enabling Pianist Pro on your iPad, with the Line 6 MIDI Mobilizer adapter (£45) or wirelessly over Wi-Fi, to be used as a MIDI controller as well as connecting with your existing MIDI devices and your DAW. Pianist Pro has been extended further to work seamlessly with MIDI. Two of Its best features, the programmable arpeggiator and the Scale Piano (allowing for scales to be soloed with the swipe of a finger), are both now MIDI compatible, making the functionality of these features applicable to other MIDI devices. Pianist Pro becomes more than just a passive keyboard. The built-in sampled sounds can also be used with an external MIDI hardware device or DAW, allowing Pianist Pro to become a sound source in itself Read More
The big knock against smartphones, iPods and iPads is that no one really needs one. There is no question you can get by without any of the nearly 300,000 mobile apps on the market. But if you ever felt the need to express yourself with music, and you test out some of the better apps, your definition of “need” may quickly wither. Tricked out with apps like Glee ($1), Band ($4), Bebot ($2) and others, the iPhone is history’s most versatile music creation device. The iPad offers a different and, in many ways, expanded dimension to the iPhone’s musical abilities, with apps like Magic Piano ($1), Air Harp ($2), Xewton Music Studio ($15) and Korg’s iElectribe ($10). And although users of other types of mobile phones, like the Android and the BlackBerry, are so far without these particular apps, they can still find a few decent ones to help tap into Read More
Let’s set aside the question of whether you should get an iPad and suppose you already bought one last weekend. You probably floated home and loaded it with a few whiz-bang apps and maybe even passed it around to your friends. At some point in all the euphoria, you may also have wondered whether this device is just a trophy or something you can actually use. Such self-doubts can be easily cast aside, providing you delve a little more deeply into the App Store than the Top 100 list — and are ready to open the wallet again. If you budget around $100 for a few new and upgraded apps, you can easily make the iPad into much more of a constant companion than something you just trot out when the neighbors are watching. Start with productivity apps, because a mobile device is most valuable when it lets you work anytime, Read More

I don't have enough fingers.....
J.R. Morgan 4.0 stars Version: 1.0
The application works extremely well. Much nicer than any of the piano apps I have purchased for my iPhone. Supports 10 (maybe 11? I don't have enough fingers to tell) multi-touch, so I can use both hands! The only complaint I have currently is with the white keys. The touch area to play the white keys is limited to only the lower area, so you cannot play white keys up between the black keys. This makes it EXTREMELY difficult to play a lot of chords because I can't get all four of five fingers on one hand to press all the white keys I need only in the lower area. This is a huge thing on real pianos, and they claim they want the experience to be as realistic as possible, so I am extremely disappointed it was designed this way. I would greatly appreciate if they could update the app to fix this issue.
Great craft

Thanks, great app. Smooth, neat.
Great if you're on the go!

This is a stellar app for the musician on the go, whether you're in a coffee shop or on a car or bus trip. Motivation and musical ideas can come any time and anywhere and this app guarantees you'll have a way to realize your ideas and even record and export them to iTunes. The built in recorder works great and the instruments sound pretty good. All in all, there's a pretty good amount of tweak ability. I'm really excited to have it in my musical arsenal!
