Spooky fun: iOS apps for Halloween
Calendar16 Fri, 21 Oct 2011 23:00:00 UTC +00:00
I love Halloween. As kids we anticipated the night we'd canvas the neighborhood in plastic costumes, visiting house after house. Especially that one crazy lady who dressed as a witch and tried her best to scare us. We had fun, but we didn't have iPhones. Today a slew of digital treats lurk inside the App Store. Here's a selection of our favorites. There are prerequisites to Halloween fun. You've got to choose a costume, carve a pumpkin and set a creepy mood. Here are some apps to get you started (all prices are USD). Costume Decider (Free) Can't decide on a costume? Let your iPhone help. This app from GS Design features two "wheels" for you to spin; one features adjectives such as "super" and "Vulcan" while the other offers nouns like "nurse" or "granny." Strategy games and iOS are a match made in heaven. The touch screen makes interacting with units and maps quicker and easier than any mouse pointer could. This has led to a wide variety of fun and intuitive strategy games made for the platform. From traditional turn-based strategy, to tower defense, to games that bend the rules altogether into something new, there’s something here for everyone who wants to use his brain to win. Read More
On the heels of a cool new content update to for iPhone and iPod Touch, creator PopCap Games has slashed the prices of the vast majority of its App Store catalogue. From now until whenever the studio decides to call it quits, you can grab its best games on the cheap, including the aforementioned Plants vs. Zombies as well as Peggle. Here’s a Quick Hits list for your pleasure: It’s hard to believe that everyone doesn’t own Plants vs. Zombies or Peggle already, so I thought I’d plug Chuzzle real fast. It’s another neat match-three game in a long line of match-three titles that don’t quite do enough to distance themselves from Bejeweled, but it’s hip in bursts and has a ton of character to spare. At this price, it’s worth a shot if you’re into puzzle games. If you are interested a new version 2.0 of the app has been Read More
Plants vs. Zombies updated, and a few other app deals
Calendar16 Thu, 08 Sep 2011 22:00:00 UTC +00:00
PopCap has updated the Plants vs. Zombies iOS app with a few new game mode options, purchaseable with the in-game currency at Dave's crazy store. The modes are all different and available in purchases of three each, featuring everything from a mode where you fight invisible zombies to a special bowling mode, and even a variant of PopCap's own Bejeweled called "Beghouled Twist." If you don't want to earn the in-game currency yourself, PopCap's also offering in-app purchases for in-game coins that will unlock each of the modes, so that's another way to go. Elsewhere on the App Store, EA has released Snood Free, a free version of the popular Bubble Bobble-style game (along with Snood Free HD for iPad). This version leaves multiplayer out and contains ads, while the original paid versions of the game are still online. Disney has also launched a lite version of the popular JellyCar 3, Read More
Have you played Plants vs. Zombies on your mobile devices to the point you don’t even need to think twice where you place your plants in order to fight off wave after wave of mindless zombies? Well, if you’ve been playing the iPhone version of PvZ, then you’ll be happy to hear the game has just received a major update that will keep you busy for quite some time. Plants vs. Zombies for the iPhone has been updated with nine new mini-games that have been taken straight from the PC/Mac version. Three mini-games are included in three mini-game packs and all of the mini-games can be accessed through Crazy Dave’s Store and be purchased via spending either coins earned in-game or tending the Zen Garden. If you’re the type of player who needs everything right at this moment and you’ve got $.99 to spare, you can spend your actual money to Read More
'Plants vs. Zombies' Update Adds New Mini-Games
Calendar16 Thu, 08 Sep 2011 18:00:09 UTC +00:00
Plants vs. Zombies [$2.99 / HD] for the iPhone just received a little more feature parity with its cousins on other platforms and a touch of free-to-play to boot. Creator PopCap Games has just added in a total of nine new mini-games to experience in-between your bouts with the undead. Each mini-game comes bundled in packs of three, all three of which you can buy through Crazy Dave for 50,000 coins respectively. In a fun twist that I’m sure certain crowds are going to love, the studio is allowing users to spend $.99 three times in exchange for oodles (read: 100,000) of in-game coins. Naturally, you can exchange these coins in return for these packs -- or presumably whatever else you want, including new plants or slots -- from the in-game shop that Crazy Dave runs. Here’s the listing of the new mini-games. “Beghouled Twist” is certainly the most interesting of Read More

When I hit up the Sega preview event this past Tuesday, there was definitely a running theme. Held at the Kabuki hotel in San Francisco’s Japantown, there was an overwhelming amount of Asian decor in the lounge Sega had reserved as well as a delicious spread of gourmet sushi, pork buns, and veggie spring rolls. It turns out that this choice of venue by Sega was deliberate and fitting, as the main title they were showcasing at this event is a game called Samurai Bloodshow [$1.99]. Out of respect for Sega’s embargo wishes, we weren’t able to talk about Samurai Bloodshow until now, but the game has been available in Japan since June and we have even had a thread in our forums for discussing the game since then. Due to the popularity of the title in Japan, Sega has now officially brought the game to the US App Store. Samurai Read More

PopCap Adds Retina Support to 'Plants vs. Zombies'
Calendar16 Sat, 30 Jul 2011 00:32:04 UTC +00:00
Of late, PopCap Games has been crossing its T’s and dotting it’s I’s. Just a few weeks ago, the publisher dropped a retina display support update into its monstrous hit, Peggle [$2.99]. Around roughly the same time, Plants vs. Zombies [$2.99 /HD] received the Zen Garden in a free update, bringing it on par with the other versions out there. Now, PVZ can boast retina display support, too. In a free update that just dropped, PVZ can be seen in all its fantastic, HD-y glory for those playing on an iPhone 4. If PopCap was a person this kind of housecleaning behavior could be seen as a sign that it’s preparing for something new. Lord knows you won't catch me picking up quarters off my floor or dusting my molding unless I'm moving out an old couch and putting a new one in. Is it plausible that we’re on the cusp of receiving a Read More

'Plants vs. Zombies' And 'Peggle' Great Some Great Updates
Calendar16 Fri, 10 Jun 2011 17:36:48 UTC +00:00
There are, I think, four people left on Earth who don’t own the following titles from PopCap Games: [$2.99 / HD] and [$2.99]. If you don’t, shame on you sirs. If you do already have them, here’s some good news -- Peggle now supports the Retina Display and PVZ now has the Zen Garden. Both of these respective updates are available for free right now. The news of the Peggle update broke yesterday afternoon, just about right when the update when live on the App Store. This update fixes, really, the only issue I had with the original game, which is to say, its muddy, out-dated visuals. The Zen Garden is a different beast. It functions just like how it does in PVZ proper. It’s an interactive garden that gives you cash in return for your green thumbs. You earn plants in the campaign or by purchasing them from Crazy Dave. Read More

Army of Darkness iOS Game Arrives Tonight

Posted 05/11/2011 at 11:04am | by Andrew Groen Back in March we reported on the announcement of an officially licensed iPhone game based on the legendary cult-classic Army of Darkness. Today that game arrived in the New Zealand App Store which means there's a very high likelihood the game will be arriving in App Stores around the world in the coming hours. The game is played in a castle-defense style with undead hordes throwing themselves at your defenses. In a way, the game looks to borrow an element from iconic castle-defense game Plants vs Zombies [iTunes Link]. Before each match it looks as if you have to select which units you'll bring with you into the battle. It also looks like you'll have some special spells that you'll be able to bring, although specific details are difficult to glean at this point. Army of Darkness Defense will be available soon for Read More
PopCap Games Announces New, Edgier 4th & Battery Label
Calendar16 Tue, 05 Apr 2011 15:35:16 UTC +00:00
Some neat news is spilling from PopCap Games this morning. The publisher and creator of titles such as Plants vs. Zombies [$2.99 / HD] and Bejeweled [$.99] has announced the launch of a brand new label called “4th & Battery,” an eclectic name brought about by the actual position of its offices in Seattle, Washington. The mission of 4th & Battery is simple: to put out smaller, much more adventurous titles to handhelds and the social web without concern for business stuff like, say, profit. In a press release announcing the formation of the label, PopCap takes great care in positioning 4th & Battery as an edgier development house, home to games that are targeted to adults and combine interesting and experimental components. Here's what PopCap Games' CCO Jason Kapalka had to say about in a statement: The first game, dubbed Unpleasant Horse, is a curious one indeed. In it, you'll Read More

This has been a crazy week at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain. I saw a ton of different kinds of mobile phones, tablets, and other devices running all sorts of non-iOS apps and operating systems. Overall, it was really interesting checking out what the competition has to offer. Unfortunately, it was rather difficult to truly gauge the relative gaming performance of these new phones and tablets, as curiously enough, most were just loaded with a smattering of ports of last year's Gameloft games (or older, in the case of Shrek Kart) and Angry Birds. When asked, despite superior hardware, most developers still seemed reluctant to invest too much time or energy in to building games for these new devices, really making me wonder how much longer this "wait and see" approach will persist. Anyway, the reason I was even in attendance at Mobile World Congress in the first place was Read More

Apple highlights the best of iTunes in 2010

Apple has highlighted the best of iTunes from 2010, showing off their picks for the best apps, movies, TV shows and more. There are several categories and many of our favorites made the cut. Here's an overview of the winners. Let's jump right to the fun one -- apps. Apple has created separate categories for iPhone/iPod touch apps and iPad apps, but the big honors went to Hipstamatic, which Apple named "iPhone App of the Year" (also a former TUAW Daily App pick) and the record-breaking Plants vs. Zombies which took home the "iPhone Game of the Year" title. On the iPad side of the store, Flipboard was named the "iPad App of the Year" for 2010, while Cosmos picked up "iPad Game of the Year." From there, Apple breaks down the hot trends in both iPad and iPhone/iPod touch apps. Categories include food and cooking apps, news, stories, apps for Read More

iPhone apps on sale for Halloween
Calendar16 Sat, 30 Oct 2010 03:30:00 UTC +00:00
Happy Halloween weekend! This is my favorite holiday of the year, not only because it's a fun time for parties during my favorite season, but also because it seems to be an excellent time for developers to put a little something special into their apps -- like put them on sale. There are quite a few sales hitting the App Store this weekend -- Sega has some of their titles on sale again (including Ecco the Dolphin and the great Shining Force), and Namco Bandai is doing the same. You can pick up Bit.Trip Beat and the original Pac Man game for just a buck each, among a few other good deals. PopCap has brought Plants vs. Zombies down to a buck for the holiday, and EA has a "Monster Sale" going on, too, with Wolfenstein RPG, Snood, and more on sale for just one cent less than a buck. Plants Vs. Zombies Goes on Sale for Both the iPhone & iPad
Calendar16 Wed, 27 Oct 2010 18:23:21 UTC +00:00
Ever since PopCap Games’ Plants vs. Zombies hit the App Store back in February, it’s fair to say it’s been a hit. I personally have played Plants vs. Zombies so many times on every platform imaginable, and yet I still haven’t completed the entire game on any of them. That’s besides the point here as PopCap Games has just dropped the price on one of its most successful games on both the iPhone & iPad. For the iPhone version of Plants vs. Zombies, the game has dropped down in price from its normal price of $2.99 down to $.99 for just a limited time. As for the iPad version, it didn’t drop down to a bargain bin price of $.99, but it did drop down 50% from $9.99 down to $4.99. Chances are that you’ve probably played and own Plants vs. Zombies on either the PC, Mac, or console. If you Read More
Developer PopCap has just dropped the price of their wildly popular zombie defense game Plants vs. Zombies down to 99¢ for a limited time. This is the first time this game has ever seen a price drop from its normal price of $2.99. Plants vs. Zombies debuted on the App Store back in February and immediately skyrocketed into the top 10 overall paid apps list, and hasn't dropped out of the top 50 ever since. Chances are that there aren't that many of you out there who don't already own Plants vs. Zombies, based on the incredible sales numbers, but for those of you who have been on the fence this whole time now is your opportunity to pounce on this game. If you aren't sure what the heck Plants vs. Zombies is, then check out our extensive review of the iPhone version from when the game was released back in Read More
Killer Strategies For Six of Our Favorite iOS Games
Calendar16 Wed, 13 Oct 2010 22:27:54 UTC +00:00
Posted 10/13/2010 at 2:27pm | by The Mac|Life Staff We love our iOS games. In fact, we've played some of them so much we were able to come up with some helpful hints for six of our favorite games. » If you’re not playing a Druid character and would like to get some cheap healing, learn the Regeneration spell from the Troll. This will help save Blue Mana and won’t end your turn unless your enemy uses a Resists Magic spell. » Get a Giant Rat mount if you can. The Rat is easy to beat in the training game, and, once leveled high enough, will allow you to avoid road monsters while adding a valuable Cunning bonus in combats. » Practice! Beating even one stage unlocks Eternal mode, which lets you play without a time limit and improve your skills. Use this to your advantage, especially if you’re getting used Read More

Five addictive iPhone games to kill some time
Calendar16 Thu, 19 Aug 2010 19:30:00 UTC +00:00
When you're waiting on the subway, sitting in the bathroom, waiting at the doctor's office or otherwise experiencing some empty time, there's nothing better than a casual iPhone game. You can play right away, quit whenever you want, and keep building up those high scores. Some iPhone games are more addictive than others, though. For many reasons, these five keep me coming back. It could be the quest for new items and higher scores, the quick learning curve, or the great graphics, but each of these games has its own unique combo of attributes that add up to high replay value. Check out the list for yourself, and then point out the ones I missed in the comments. I just picked this fast little number up for free during a promotion (it's normally 99 cents), and I haven't been able to put it down since. In Mega Jump, you control a Read More
The 30 Best iPhone Apps So Far This Year
Calendar16 Sat, 07 Aug 2010 18:12:54 UTC +00:00
Editor’s note: This guest post is written by Alex Ahlund, the former CEO and founder of AppVee and AndroidApps, which were acquired by mobile application directory Appolicious. About this time last year, he gave us his picks of the best iPhone apps of 2009 up until then, so we thought we’d make it an annual tradition. I’ve been involved in the iPhone app industry since it first began in 2008 and I have to say that it has come a long way. I’ve seen it grow from a meager launch of 500 applications in the App Store to currently over 225,000. In only two years, the industry has matured at hyperspeed. It spawned an entire ecosystem to support it from a multitude of news and editorial resources to developer engines, promotional services and ancillary niches. With over five billion app downloads and a billion dollars at stake, it’s no surprise that Read More
Plantes contre Zombies maintenant en français
Calendar16 Tue, 27 Jul 2010 07:27:55 UTC +00:00
Ce flower defense Read More
An ambiguous image has been making the rounds over the weekend as casual game development king PopCap has sent out save the date emails for August 2nd in San Francisco, CA. This is quite literally all we know right now, but judging by the wild success of both the original Plants vs. Zombies for the Mac and PC, as well as the chart-topping Plants vs. Zombies [$2.99] and Plants vs. Zombies HD [$9.99] for the iPad, it's no surprise that PopCap would be making a sequel. If this is the first you've heard of , here's the gist of the game from our review: We awarded Plants vs. Zombies for the iPhone 5 stars, and the iPad game is worth a look too as it includes a survival mode, more mini games, and the graphics look simply fantastic on the iPad screen. PopCap seems to have a knack for creating fun Read More

Apple’s Awesome iOS 4 Apps
Calendar16 Mon, 28 Jun 2010 21:07:17 UTC +00:00
Apple seems to be on a roll of late with App Store app lists. First came The Best Games You’ve Never Played, a roundup of hidden gems that haven’t quite burned up the app charts. Now they’ve released the Awesome iOS 4 Apps list, a collection of apps and games that have been updated to take advantage of iOS 4′s new features, like support for the Retina Display and Multitasking/Fast App Switching. Here are some notable that have made the list: Now I haven’t tried all 42 apps on the list, but I don’t think I’d consider all of them to be awesome. I suppose it’s all a matter of personal preference and interests (and of course, apps that actually have been updated for iOS 4 already). The entire Apple roundup can be found right here on iTunes. If you're one of the lucky ones you managed to secure themselves an iPhone 4 today (or even the past two days if you're really lucky) you've no doubt marveled at how thin it is, how crisp the Retina Display is, and maybe you've even found someone else to do a FaceTime call with... but what about loading it up with some games? Since we haven't gotten our own iPhone 4's yet, we haven't really been able to put together a "games that are really awesome on the iPhone 4" listing, but I figured we'd start out by compiling a list of some of our favorite games in the App Store. If you think this looks a lot like our 2009 Buyer's Guide, that's because it does. However, we've updated the list with some of our recent favorites and kept some of the old ones. Spielstand-Backup über iTunes-Dateifreigabe
Calendar16 Wed, 02 Jun 2010 07:23:50 UTC +00:00
Zitat des Entwicklers gegenüber iPhoneBlog.de: “But it’s a cool feature anyway – backup or swapping saves…”.

Best iPhone Games February 2010

Our February game ratings are in place now, and here are the top of the heap. Our monthly "best of" round-up summarizes the top rated games that we looked at in the previous month. Each game reviewed receives a 1-5 star rating relative to the other games from that month. Generally, a 3 or higher is considered a "good" rating. Our final scores are not the product of any traditionally objective measures such as graphics or sound, but simply reflect the games we would most recommend to others. Space Miner - It's probably no surprise that this game topped our list for February. Space Miner: Space Ore Bust has an unusually broad appeal successfully mixing shooter and RPG genres into a humorous and well scripted package. PopCap’s “Plants vs. Zombies,” a game in which you must fight off oncoming hordes of zombies using nothing more than, as the title suggests, plants, has climbed to to top of the charts and is now one of the highest grossing app on iTunes. What’s most remarkable about this feat is the fact that Plants vs. Zombies became the third highest grossing app on the iTunes store in 9 days. Since then, it has been downloaded over 300,000 times, and has grossed in excess of $1 million. So, what has made Plants. vs. Zombies so successful in such a short period of time? Here’s what Mike Schramm of The Unofficial Apple Weblog has to say: “It’s a high quality game, first of all, and PopCap has a reputation for making those already. Plants vs. Zombies breaks records on the iPhone
Calendar16 Fri, 26 Feb 2010 00:00:00 UTC +00:00
PopCap has released some sales information on their latest iPhone game, Plants vs. Zombies, and it's a runaway hit: the game has sold over 300,000 copies in just the nine days it's been out on the App Store, which means the company has garnered over $1 million in sales already. Very impressive -- first, we had an app make a million total, then a company was making a million a month, and now PopCap has done the same in just over a week. So what's their secret? It's a high quality game, first of all, and PopCap has a reputation for making those already. Second, the game itself had a fairly high profile even before release, since it was extremely successful on the PC as well. And finally, you have to think that the price figures in as well -- I thought the game would sell for PopCap's usual $5, but Read More
PopCap Makes it Rain with 'Plants vs. Zombies' Launch
Calendar16 Thu, 25 Feb 2010 20:21:02 UTC +00:00
If there's one thing that PopCap is really good at aside from making impossible to put down games that appeal to hardcore gamers, grandmas, and everyone in between it's having those game smash sales records. The original Plants vs. Zombies [App Store] release for the PC was PopCap's fastest-selling video game, and per a press release this morning, the iPhone release is performing just as well. Since its release, there have been over 300,000 units sold on the App Store, making Plants vs. Zombies the highest grossing launch in App Store history. PopCap is no stranger to greatness on the App Store, as Bejeweled 2 was the first paid app to reach 3 million downloads, and they're responsible for three games that have been #1 on the paid app charts as well: Bejeweled 2, Peggle, and obviously Plants vs. Zombies If this is the first you've heard of , you absolutely Read More
Forget these fancy pants new kids on the block like Popcaps and their mind-blowingly huge Plants vs Zombies title — if you’re a real gamer, you’ll be spending your cash on Final Fantasy I and II for $8.99 a pop. That’s what most of the sites are saying, anyway. I would actually much rather play Angry Birds, Plants vs Zombies, or the newly released Tilt to Live than relive a Japenese RPG experience dating back to 1987. I guess I just don’t like grinding (in the non-sexy dancing way) against monsters for hours upon hours on end and rotating between “attack” and my various basic elemental spells. I’ll stop there, though. I don’t want to grinch up everyone else’s childhood/youth gaming experiences, so I’ll just end this post with some handy iTunes links: Read More
By Arron Hirst on February 25th, 2010 PopCap Games give us an idea of just how successful their latest iPhone (and iPod touch) release has been for them, announcing Plants vs. Zombies managed to hit 300,000 downloads in the first 9 days of availability and has so far grossed over 1 Million US dollars. We all love PopCap Games and their latest critically claimed tower defense game Plants vs. Zombies. You may remember that we reviewed the game recently, and we knew it was going to be popular. Exactly how popular in as far as sales though remained a mystery … until today. The company has announced that within the first 9 days of the game being available on the App Store, Plants vs. Zombies saw a staggering 300,000 downloads, placing the title right up there with Bejeweled® 2, another of PopCap’s well-loved smash hit iPhone games. Apparently you aren’t cool if you don’t have Plants vs Zombies installed on your iPhone or iPod touch. PopCap has revealed that their best-selling desktop game has now become the fastest-selling iPhone app yet. Plants vs Zombies has been downloaded over 300,000 times since its launch nine days ago, setting a new record for App Store launches. The game vaulted into the number one paid app spot within 24 hours of its launch and had remained there up until late yesterday. Thanks to all of those downloads, the game has already grossed over $1 million. “Plants vs. Zombies is our latest major franchise to make the jump to iPhone, and from the early customer and critical feedback it appears to be a great adaptation of the game,” said Andrew Stein, director of mobile business development at PopCap. “There’s always a concern when bringing a computer game to a mobile, pocket-sized device Read More

Review: PopCap Games Plants vs. Zombies
Calendar16 Mon, 15 Feb 2010 16:59:00 UTC +00:00
Company: PopCap Games Price: $3 Compatible: iPod touch, iPhone/3G/3GS Editor-in-Chief, iLounge Published: Monday, February 15, 2010 Category: Games - iPad, iPhone + iPod Our editors remember well the day in 2009 when PopCap Games released Plants vs. Zombies for Macs and PCs: back in May, we temporarily lost contact with our spouses for a brief period of time as this brilliant little title threatened to consume far too much of our (and their) productive energy. Today, PopCap released the game for the iPhone and iPod touch at a staggeringly low price of only $3 -- $17 less than the PC and Mac version -- and though the portable release is missing one of the best features of the full version, it's otherwise so impressive and so broadly appealing that we can't help but highly recommend it. Though Plants vs. Zombies is technically a “tower defense” game, that term implies a certain Read More
Plants vs Zombies
Calendar16 Tue, 23 Feb 2010 07:20:32 UTC +00:00
Plants vs Zombies is an app created by veteran casual game maker PopCap. The game is essentially a tower defense game which pits your own homegrown plants against an onslaught of evil zombies. As you progress through the game, you will collect new types of plants to counter the growing variety of mind-munching monsters attacking your door. You will utilize the long range peashooters, the explosive cherry bombs, the sunshine-producing sunflowers, and many more. In order to produce more plants, you will have to collect sunshine that falls from the sky or plant sunflowers to produce extra resources. The game begins with only one row of attacking zombies but as you grow in experience, the game will expand to 5 rows of mayhem. In later levels, the placement of various plants becomes key. New types of zombies will attack quickly or become extremely difficult to take down. Overall, the game is Read More
Plants vs Zombies in Review: Taking Over Lives, Once Again
Calendar16 Sat, 20 Feb 2010 17:17:46 UTC +00:00
Fans and newcomers to the hugely popular PC/Mac game Plants vs Zombies have been waiting for the iPhone and iPod Touch version as early as August 2009. The long wait is over, at last. Now the question is: how well does Plants vs Zombies fare both as a PC/Mac port and a standalone tower defense game, given that the TD genre is one of the, if not the most crowded and well-represented genre on the iPhone platform? Plants vs Zombies is an unusual tower defense game that turns the familiar into something new, engaging and exciting. It turns your house into a battlefield against a battery of zombies trying to get in. While normally you need loads of big and mean guns to take out the zombies, here, you plant your powerful defenses to keep the zombies out. There are 49 different fighting plants such as pea shooters, chompers, sea-shrooms, wall-nuts Read More
This Week’s App Store Updates – 19th February
Calendar16 Fri, 19 Feb 2010 15:13:52 UTC +00:00
Browsing the App Store this weekend?  Here are seven new or updated apps worth taking a closer look at if you are: This is the official application from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.  There is a list of all the 2010 nominees, with trailers for each picture, plus the chance to predict the winners of each category ahead of the ceremony. A great looking and most importantly, free, multiple service IM client, which has support for AIM, Yahoo, Google Talk, Windows Live, MySpace and Facebook, plus a variety of others.  The app has Push notifications and connects via EDGE, 3G and Wi-FI. Another great game from PopCap, this is a port of the popular PC/Mac version.  You must fight off invading hordes of zombies, using just as the title suggests, only a collection of plants.  There are 50 levels, iPhone exclusive achievements and the great graphics and sound Read More
Plants Vs Zombies iPhone Review: Dangerously Addicting!
Calendar16 Wed, 17 Feb 2010 08:30:40 UTC +00:00
We’ve been yapping about this game ever since it was first announced. We offered you a quick review of it and now the full review. WARNING: it’s dangerously ADDICTING! It’s been so long since we last saw a tower defense game that left us in awe. Plants Vs Zombies remains intact for the iPhone and yes, it’s every bit as fun as the PC/Mac versions. You and I already know it, you’ve bought the game and AT LEAST played one level so far! Presentation Let’s now treat the review as if this is the first time you’re hearing about the game. It’s basically tower defense where the “offense” walks in a straight line thus “line defense”. The overall story of the game is that zombies are attacking your house and the defense is left to your plants. Plants Vs Zombies initially takes you to your frontyard, the back and then the Read More

First look at Final Fantasy on the iPhone
Calendar16 Mon, 15 Feb 2010 22:00:00 UTC +00:00
Feb 15th 2010 at 5:00PM I can't wait to sit through lengthy dialogue and cutscenes on my train to work. I also want to see Square release Chrono Trigger on the iPhone! Looks like the ever-continuing port/remake of the Wonderswan Color version that has manifested itself on the Playstation, Gameboy Advance and Playstation Portable. Fun game but 2 is easily the hardest Final Fantasy (and the one I cannot bring myself to level up enough to beat). Any news on whether an english version would be available??? Does anyone know if this is the Final Fantasy 2 that the US market called Final Fantasy 2? This is the Japanese Final Fantasy II which was not released in the US, except for the FFI&II combo cart for the Gameboy Advance. The US "Final Fantasy II" for the SNES was a originally released in Japan as "Final Fantasy IV EasyType" (yes, they had Read More

Just as promised, PopCap’s hit casual tower defense game, Plants vs. Zombies, has gone mobile for the iPhone and iPod touch. “Plants vs. Zombies for iPhone and iPod touch marks the first adaptation of our wildly popular ‘flower defense’ game to a new platform, and we’re excited at how well it has translated to the iPhone and iPod touch,” stated Andrew Stein, director of mobile platforms at PopCap Games. Plants vs. Zombies is a unique tower defense game that oozes character as only PopCap games can.  In the game you will be defending your home from waves of zombies, each with their own special traits, by planting 49 different plants, some of which are offensive and some defensive. The game features a total of 26 different types of zombies to defeat, 50 levels in Adventure mode with different surroundings, achievements, Quick Play mode, and amusing animations and music. Plants vs. Zombies on the iPhone: Nut up or shut up
Calendar16 Mon, 15 Feb 2010 16:38:00 UTC +00:00
Plants vs. Zombies was planted on the iPhone App Store today, and we couldn't download it fast enough. The tower-defense-style gameplay, where you have to collect the power of the sun in order to place offensive and defensive plants on your lawn to fight off the incoming zombie hordes, was a blast on the PC and Mac, but it seems as if it had been designed for touch screens. We finally get to test that assertion. If you need to know more about the mechanics and gameplay of the title, feel free to read our original review of the PC version. On the iPhone, the graphics remain clear and easy to read and understand, and the ability to tap on the falling suns to collect them and tap where you'd like to plant your army works incredibly well and is very satisfying. This is a direct port of the original game Read More

Plants Vs. Zombies Review
Calendar16 Mon, 15 Feb 2010 07:49:08 UTC +00:00
Published: February 15, 2010 Comment         Does PvZ on the go live up to its big brother on the PC? The answer is an emphatic yes. Developer Popcap has succeed in emulating the experience of the PC version for the iPhone and iPod touch, and has also streamlined the game to be more friendly to the portable devices. Fans of the original should know that content wise, there is nothing new to see in this version and in fact the auxiliary Survival mode so popular in the PC version is absent on the iPhone. For those who have escaped the internet craze; Plants vs. Zombies is a variant on the popular Tower Defense genre in which players strategically place plants in their lawn to defend their home from incoming zombies. Plants vs. Zombies was originally released in May of 2009 for the PC, and at the time was very well Read More

'Plants vs. Zombies' – The Zombies… Are Here!
Calendar16 Mon, 15 Feb 2010 03:30:16 UTC +00:00
When Plants vs. Zombies [App Store] was originally announced on April 1st last year, PC gamers everywhere (myself included) were unsure if Popcap's newly revealed game was part of an elaborate April Fool's Day hoax or not. A little more than a month later, the game was released and not only saw universal acclaim from the gaming media resulting in an 88 on Metacritic, but also earned the title of Popcap's fastest selling game of all time. In Plants vs. Zombies, Popcap takes the standard tower defense formula and greatly simplifies it. Instead of a path to build towers along, you drop seeds in your yard which then grow in to plants that have various offensive or defensive capabilities. The yard is organized in a grid, and zombies move straight across the row they spawn on, munching (or in some cases jumping or flying over) anything that they come in contact Read More

Was absolutely thrilled when this came out in the appstore. I'm a big fan of tower defense games and this is defiantly one of my favorites. The style is really cute and I love the humor in it. I've played the PC version and loved it. I've only just gotten it, but it looks great so far. My only complaint is that its lacking some of the features of the PC version, survival mode in particular - which was my favorite. If survival mode were to come out this will probably be one of my favorite games on my ipod touch.
Awesome

I updated the app thinking "Cool, retina graphics! Finally!" Well the update ended up screwing up the game, it takes 4 times linger to load now and crashes before it loads the menu about 95% of the time. Was the update worth the retina graphics? Not a chance. I'm pretty disappointed, this used to be my favorite game to play...Btw I just updated both iPod software and the app to the most recent versions and it still crashes. Yay.
