Calendar16 Sat, 07 Jan 2012 01:00:00 UTC +00:00
It's January 6th, 2012, and today marks the end of the TUAW Best of 2011 awards. This was a massive undertaking, with 25 separate categories all requiring their own nominations and voting from our readers. We've learned some lessons for next year's event -- start earlier, watch for astroturfing in the nominations, drop some unpopular categories -- and the Best of 2012 will be even better. The editorial staff here at TUAW agreed with many of the reader picks, but we had our own opinions on some others. We want to thank all of the thousands of TUAW readers who took time to consider their favorite accessories and apps, nominate them for an award, and then vote in the competition. Without further ado, here's the full list of winners as well as our picks for the TUAW Best of 2011: Editor picks: 13" and 11" MacBook Air, 13" MacBook Pro Peripheral Read More

Sure enough, nobody caught the fact that we left the voting poll off of the post for the Best iPad productivity app of 2011, so we ended up with zero votes except for those that were sent to us as comments. To be fair, we're re-opening the polls. Here's the text from the post the other day describing the nominees: TUAW is asking for your votes for the best iPad productivity app of 2011. By Rob LeFebvre on December 29th, 2011 As 2011 winds on down, we take a look back at some of the finest apps released this past year. Just as we expected, Pocket Informant is released for the iPad. The application, which was already available for the iPhone and some other platforms, is now fully optimized to sing along Apple’s tablet computer. As you can guess, the iPhone app was just a beginning. The iPad version takes advantage of that larger screen to show you way more information on one place. You’ll love it! Here are some of the features included with the Pocket Informant HD: In other words, this is THE best PIM software ever made for the iPad. And it looks awesome. AppStore link is below. Awesome!
Fakeen Asuhoru 5.0 stars Version: 1.50
My favorite workshift organizer/to-do list app. I have this on my iphone and now finally on my ipad. Congrats to Webis and Alex for a fine job. Definitely recommended. I found no better app to setup my workshifts, too. Aloha from the middle of the sea
It's finally here!
Jaredli 5.0 stars Version: 1.50
Omg, I have been waiting for the iPad version for months. Now it's finally here!!! I have had the iPhone version for a year and I absolutely loved it. I used the Spanning Sync service to link my iCal, Google Calendar, and Pocket Informant all together. My life has become much more organized ever since! :D Hands down, it's definitely the best productivity app I have ever used. Being able to have a beautifully designed calendar and a super convenient to-do list combined in one is wonderful. The other great thing about this app is the dedicated developer behind scene. I have seen this app slowly evolved in the year through frequent updates. I also love the fact that customers can request new features on their forum and I have been amazed by how fast they react to those requests. By far, five of my requests have been fulfilled!! You may think this app is too pricy; however you should know that, unlikely buying most other apps, this one you are also buying a continuous service and upgrades! Those guys have set a new bar for the customer service in the app market! Thanks for all you do! :)
Way to go!
doctormogo 5.0 stars Version: 1.50
I have to admit that this is the very first review of an app I've left on the app store. I've used PI for iPhone for a year or so, and it has revolutionized my productivity, so I absolutely couldn't wait for the iPad version. Way to go Web-is for creating a PIM for both iPhone and iPad that is simple to use, elegant, and user-friendly!
Great calendar app!
Snagtooth 5.0 stars Version: 1.50
Well thought out, smooth navigation and great sync options. I love it and find the support makes the price of entry a no-brainer!
Best iPad GTD app!

This is great
jonrobs 5.0 stars Version: 1.50
I am a long time pocket informant user from the windows mobile days. And have been using the iPhone version for about a year Now. The iPad version is just as good with the added benefit of having more screen real-estate. This app is great now and will become one of the essential must have apps once the ios4 is released on the iPad as that will allow for access to the local apple calendar.
Finally!!!
UKmdPhD 5.0 stars Version: 1.50
An awesome application on the iPhone 4.0 now on the iPad! Outstanding graphics, very usable format that allows me to work on the go with my Google Calandars with all my Apple toys. Very much worth the wait. Well done!!
Finally here for the iPad!
Create Nickname. Okay. 5.0 stars Version: 1.50
Although I'm not sure it can really be called "pocket" informant since I don't have a pocket big enough for the iPad, this is one of the big things I was waiting for. Beautiful, and all the functionality of the iPhone release! Okay, so for some reason it won't save the changes I made to the default work hours, and the overdue coloring on tasks is a bit... intense, but it is still miles ahead of the default calendar app, plus it has tasks. Very nice.
The best calendar app out there, hands down
Frugal Mom 4.0 stars Version: 1.50
I've have this app on my Touch, and I couldn't wait to see what they came up with for my new iPad. It's a new interface that makes great use of the large screen. Things I instantly noticed: Convenient month view at left Click on any day on left side of the screen and it will forward your agenda to that week Tabs on the right to switch between views - more in the line of sight than at the bottom Settings screen is nicely laid out over 2 pages Whimsical ringed binder design looks like a real paper agenda, complete with lined pages The only con is that I'm having trouble syncing my tasks from Google. All of my calendar info synced just fine. Once that's resolved, I'll log in to change my rating to 5 stars!
How the Ipad Calendar should have been!
Boston Fan 5.0 stars Version: 1.50
I've been waiting it seems like forever for Pocket informant HD. It was well worth the wait! Program is everything a calendar and task manager should be, but in one program. It does all it claims, and at this price it's a steal. If you don't purchase it it's you're loss!
Finally!
MomOf3Doxies 5.0 stars Version: 1.50
I've been waiting for the PI for IPad. Can't wait to start using it!
Finally the best PIM for the iPad!
JoeMama541 5.0 stars Version: 1.50
I've used Pocket Informant since my Pocket PC days. I've had it on my iPhones and finally now on my iPad. The best in it's class!
The very best!
AlphaWolf00 5.0 stars Version: 1.50
I have used this program for years - first on my PPC, then my Touch, and now on my iPad. It is top notch and the only program I use every day. The iPad version is built specifically for the device and takes advantage of more real estate. The developer is extremely responsive and makes continuous improvements to the program. If you're looking for a calendar/to do program, look no further. This is the best!
Best Ipad Task App for Microsoft Outlook Users
Heraclitus25 4.0 stars Version: 1.50
I've been a dedicated user of Pocket Informant on multiple platforms for a good many years and am delighted to finally see it available for the Ipad. It's the only app that lets me handle task management EXACTLY the way I want. Critical to achieving this is its superb integration with Microsoft Outlook. This it manages with its splendid wireless sync option. (I prefer not to send my most private data back and forth from "the cloud" and twiddling with Toodledo, Remember the Milk, or Google task management schemes.) I'm sure some will groan at the mention of Outlook since many find it kinda lame. Viewed by itself, they have a point. However, with ancillary integrated programs like MindManager, JVcGantt, and Zoot it can be souped up into one hell of a task management platform. With Pocket Informant for both Iphone and Ipad I can now seamlessly bring all the benefits of these programs to Apple's platform. The only reason I am withholding a fifth star at this time is that I was slightly disappointed with the somewhat cramped monthly calendar view. It would be nice if that could be blown up to fill the whole screen on the Ipad. As it stands now, headings for tasks get cut off a bit when they are included in the month view. (I hate to see all that lovely Ipad screen real estate go to waste. . .)
Fantastic! Finally! Yay!
Markuson 5.0 stars Version: 1.50
Great job on this! Easily five stars, despite a couple of suggestions. Suggest restarting your iPad after install, as a couple hiccups occurred. Working flawlessly now. Truly stellar interface with good use of screen real estate. At first I thought the calendar mode wasted space for gap around small month view on left, but clearly the reason for this is so that the viewing space stays consistent from portrait to landscape. A couple requests (keeping in mind that I'm EXTREMELY THRILLED with this incomparable app!): 1) It would be great to be able to access the "Directions to here" feature built into the iPad map. For some reason, it doesn't allow this... Perhaps an Apple restriction? 2) when listing all tasks in a list view in the calendar, it would be nice to have them differentiate the group of tasks they are from by (perhaps) the ability to color-code regularly-used task groupings. Right now, they just all list. I'd love to see them all at once in the list-calendar view, but maintain visual groupings by color. (Did I miss this option somewhere?) 3) Would be nice to be able to preview the various alarm sounds when assigning them to events. 4) would like the ability to see the "Today" view (full screen, highly detailed with times on left and tasks, etc, on right) for FUTURE days. It seems to only slow full day view of...well...today. :) Perhaps a simple swipe to left or right on the upper left day/date heading to scroll through same view on other days? This feature would make my day (no pun meant...). ;) Bottom line: As a many-year user of Pocket Informant...all the way back to the first version for windows mobile...I have to say that you've all done an incredible job here. Apple should frankly be pounding on your door to try and buy this for standard inclusion on their devices...because it just blows away any competing offering, in my view (don't do it, ha ha!). This is a no-brainer, and belongs on every ipad's home row of apps. I look forward to further developments... -Mark Morgan
Great Job
Shamu124 5.0 stars Version: 1.50
You did a great job with this app. Thank you! One suggestion...I really like the Today View. It would be nice if we could "swipe" and have that same view for "Tomorrow" and other future days. I did have one problem with the app crashing. When the alarms were showing and when I touched on the alarm, it crashed and just went to the home screen of the iPad. I went to settings and chose not to have the alarms show on the bottom of the Today screen.
Awesome
WKU Professor 5.0 stars Version: 1.50
PI for iPad is absolutely awesome. If you want to get organized there is no better app than this.
Awesome UI!
chadalan 5.0 stars Version: 1.50
I have been using the iPhone PI and live by it. I have been waiting for this since I got my iPad and I am impressed! I have my iPhone, my wife's iPhone, and my iPad all synced on the same Google Calendars for home and work as well as Toodledo- seamless!! This is a great example of simple if you want, customizable and flexible as you need it. The customer support is fantastic. The guys (and girls?) at WebIS really pay attention to our suggestions and have constant updates. They fix fix bugs as fast as Apple allows for and even answer simple questions through customer support. Keep up the great work!!
Love It, thought I have suggestions
ChicagoLaurie 5.0 stars Version: 1.50
I have been waiting for this app for months! I love the iPhone version. Though, there are a couple of suggestions. First, the program crashes occassionally, taking me back to the iPad home screen. Second, you MUST have some way to save your favorite icons in a tab of some sort. I only use about 10 of the icons, yet I'm forced to scroll through all of them to find the ones I need every single time. Otherwise, the app is GREAT!
Comprehensive and Easy
Kamil21 5.0 stars Version: 1.50
I've been using calendars on the Mac since NowUpToDate almost 20 years ago and this implementation of Informant finally lives up to the promise of an electronic Fileofax. It integrates well with Google Calendar and Toodledo (both free) so I am truly synced from secretary to family, desktop to iPhone (even Blacberries!). The interface is slick and there are many options to fit how you work. Now all it needs to be truly great would be an extra Tab for notes. No need to get this if all you are looking for is a todo list outliner. Use Omnifocus instead. But if you want a Calendar with a well integrated to do manager where you can schedule your task on to a calendar, this is it. Outstanding! But please lets have that 'notes' Tab.
FINALLY!!!!
Joeywright4 5.0 stars Version: 1.50
Been checking the app store everyday since the ipad came out! It's finally here, and I must say that I'm REALLY happy with it! It's elegant, function, and even fun! I look forward to checking my calendar and to-do's! Helps me capture, process, organize, and do!!! Thanks WIS team!!! Now, if only we could get a desktop version...
Best, most useful calendar and task app available
Oden the Red 5.0 stars Version: 1.50
I own almost all of them, OF, Things, ToDo, Taskpaper, Toodeldo etc. I have finally found the app that integrates everything I want and need in a productivity application. The presentation of todos and calendar is far and away the MOST INTUITIVE of any app I have used. For you GTDers, getting things out of your head an into the system is a breeze. I use this program with my Toodledo account, Google calendar and Busycal and have nearly perfect integration of my calendar, tasks and projects across platforms. The Pocket Informant is meaningfully customizable to work for Covey, GTD or your own system and the price is right. Thanks Web Info Systems for such a solid, powerful ap.
Nice but not quite
nmbpro 3.0 stars Version: 1.50
I've been working with the app for a few hours. The calendar in the app syncs with my google account, and events from google docs show up in my outlook calendar, but i need it to go the other way as well. I am unable to sync my outlook calendar events to the google calendar which syncs with this app. Rendering the calendar portion of this app useless. I still haven't tried the task management portion of this app, but if that is insufficient as well than I'm going to wait for the omnifocus app to come out for iPad and use that instead. According to the company site, it should be available in the app store in a few days.
Awesome
Mgm7g 5.0 stars Version: 1.50
I have used pi for a long time. This version is a gold mine in the app store; by far the best iPad calendar app available and the price is awesome. The worst thing about this app is that it came out 4 days after I gave up waiting and bought calengoo... If you haven't bought a calendar app start with this one... If you have, it will soon help you get over the wasted money on others. Great job!
Absolutely Awesome
